2026-08-13selftests/net/openvswitch: add SCTP flow key support and testMinxi Hou
The ovskey flow-string parser has no OVS_KEY_ATTR_SCTP entry, so a flow string containing sctp(src=.../dst=...) parses without error but silently drops the L4 key. The resulting flow carries only ipv4(proto=132), and the kernel rejects it: match_validate() in flow_netlink.c requires OVS_KEY_ATTR_SCTP when the IP protocol is IPPROTO_SCTP and returns -EINVAL for the missing key. Register OVS_KEY_ATTR_SCTP in the parse table and add a matching selftest that verifies SCTP flow key matching (sctp src/dst port). One listener serves the whole test. socat's fork option handles each association in a child, so the flow rules are the only thing that changes between the three phases and the listener is never restarted underneath them. -t 1 bounds how long a forked child lingers after its association closes, and the existing kill -TERM of the captured pid on teardown removes the listener itself. Also enable CONFIG_IP_SCTP in the selftest kernel config. The config checker strips underscores before comparing keys, so the entry sorts before CONFIG_IPV6 rather than after it. 2026-08-06openvswitch: remove support for legacy tunnel typesIlya Maximets
ovs-vswitchd doesn't use OVS_VPORT_TYPE_GRE/VXLAN/GENEVE with the Linux kernel module since adding support for standard tunnel devices with COLLECT_METADATA back in 2017. The code to use them was only activated as a fallback for old kernels, so not used in practice. And it is now fully removed in the upcoming OVS 4.0 release. Modern way to use tunnels with OVS is to create standard tunnel ports with RTM_NEWLINK + COLLECT_METADATA and add them as OVS_VPORT_TYPE_NETDEV. Device reference management and the netlink options parsing for these legacy port types is complicated and was a CVE magnet in the previous release cycles. Existence of these modules also makes locking analysis for geneve module and other core tunnel devices unnecessarily more complicated, especially in light of migration to per-netns locking. Since there are no actual users for these port types for a very long time, let's just remove the support entirely. There is no practical reason to run OVS from 2017 on a recent kernel. While it's technically a uAPI change in some sense, from the user's perspective this removal looks indistinguishable from the kernel built with CONFIG_OPENVSWITCH_GENEVE/VXLAN/GRE disabled. And it seems like removal of unused drivers/modules is not a rare event these days. A comment is added to the uAPI header noting that standard RTM_NEWLINK with COLLECT_METADATA followed by OVS_VPORT_CMD_NEW with the simple OVS_VPORT_TYPE_NETDEV should be used instead. Modules responsible for these tunnel ports are removed as well as selftests covering this functionality. Further cleanups will follow. 2026-07-21selftests/net/openvswitch: add ICMPv6 echo type match testMinxi Hou
Register OVS_KEY_ATTR_ICMPV6 in the flow key parser so that icmpv6(type=...) can be used in flow specifications. Without this registration the parser silently drops the token and the kernel rejects the flow with EINVAL because the expected ICMPv6 key attribute is missing. While here, add convert_int() to the ovs_key_ipv6 and ovs_key_icmp fields_map entries so that specifying a field value produces the correct wildcard mask. The IPv6 flow label uses convert_int(20) to produce a 20-bit mask (0x000FFFFF), matching the kernel constraint in flow_netlink.c that rejects masks with bits 20-31 set; byte-wide fields use convert_int(8). The ipv4 counterpart already does this via convert_int(); the ipv6 and icmp classes were simply missing the fifth tuple element. Existing callers that pass empty parentheses are unaffected because convert_int("") returns (0, 0). Add test_icmpv6 exercising the ICMPv6 echo flow key. The test uses static neighbour entries with nud permanent to prevent racy NDP, then verifies in three steps: install icmpv6(type=128) and icmpv6(type=129) flows and confirm ping works, remove the flows and confirm ping fails, reinstall and confirm recovery. 2026-07-08selftests/net/openvswitch: add output truncation testMinxi Hou
Add test_trunc exercising the OVS_ACTION_ATTR_TRUNC action. The test verifies truncation limits in four steps: reject trunc(1) and trunc(13) which are below ETH_HLEN, confirm normal forwarding works, apply trunc(14) which truncates packets to the Ethernet header and verify ping fails, then restore normal forwarding and verify recovery. The kernel requires max_len >= ETH_HLEN (14 bytes). trunc(14) sets OVS_CB(skb)->cutlen so pskb_trim strips the IP payload at output time; the receiver drops the runt frame and no echo reply is generated. 2026-06-15selftests/net/openvswitch: add SET action testMinxi Hou
Add test_action_set exercising OVS_ACTION_ATTR_SET with an ipv4 dst rewrite. The test verifies the SET action in three steps: first confirm normal forwarding, then apply set(ipv4(dst=10.0.0.99)) to rewrite the destination to an address nobody owns and verify ping fails, then restore normal forwarding and verify connectivity recovers. 2026-06-11selftests/net/openvswitch: add flow modify testMinxi Hou
Add mod_flow() and the mod-flow CLI command to ovs-dpctl.py, exercising OVS_FLOW_CMD_SET. Add test_flow_set which first modifies an existing flow with new actions and verifies the change via traffic, then modifies the same flow without actions and verifies the kernel handles the no-actions case gracefully. The no-actions path is unreachable from userspace OVS tools (dpctl mod-flow requires actions) but reachable via raw netlink. This is the code path where Adrian Moreno found a possible kfree_skb of ERR_PTR when reply allocation fails after locking. Make parse() skip OVS_FLOW_ATTR_ACTIONS when actstr is None so the kernel enters the post-lock allocation branch in ovs_flow_cmd_set(). After the no-actions set, verify via dump-flows that the flow retained its drop action. 2026-06-09selftests/net/openvswitch: guard command substitutions against empty outputMinxi Hou
When ip-link output is unavailable, when the upcall daemon log has not been written yet, or when pahole does not know the OVS drop subsystem ID, the affected command substitutions silently produce empty strings. The caller then passes empty sha= or pid= arguments to ovs_add_flow, or matches against wrong drop reason codes, all without a diagnostic. Add [ -z ] guards immediately after each assignment. For test_arp_ping, also align the MAC extraction to use awk '/link\/ether/' as in test_pop_vlan. The drop_reason guard returns ksft_skip because an absent subsystem ID is an environment issue, not a test failure. 2026-06-02selftests: openvswitch: add dec_ttl action support and testMinxi Hou
Add dec_ttl action support to the OVS kernel datapath selftest framework: - Add dec_ttl nested NLA class to ovs-dpctl.py with proper OVS_DEC_TTL_ATTR_ACTION sub-attribute handling - Add parse support for dec_ttl(le_1(<inner_actions>)) action string, consistent with the odp-util.c format where le_1() holds the actions taken when TTL reaches 1 - Add dpstr output formatting for dec_ttl actions - Add test_dec_ttl() to openvswitch.sh that verifies: * Normal TTL packets are forwarded after decrement * TTL=1 packets are dropped (TTL expiry) * Graceful skip via ksft_skip if kernel lacks dec_ttl support The dec_ttl class uses late-binding type resolution to reference ovsactions for its inner action list, avoiding circular references at class definition time. 2026-05-14selftests: openvswitch: add pop_vlan testMinxi Hou
Add test_pop_vlan() to verify OVS kernel datapath pop_vlan action correctly strips 802.1Q VLAN tags from frames. Test structure: - Baseline: untagged forwarding validates basic connectivity. - Negative: forward without pop_vlan, tagged frame is invisible to ns2 (no VLAN sub-interface), ping fails. - Positive: pop_vlan strips tag on forward path, push_vlan restores tag on return path, ping succeeds. Use static ARP entries to avoid VLAN-tagged ARP complexity. Rely on ping success/failure for verification -- no tcpdump or pcap files needed. 2026-05-05selftests: openvswitch: add tests for tunnel vport refcountingIlya Maximets
There were a few issues found with the tunnel vport types around the vport destruction code. Add some basic tests, so at least we know that they can be properly added and removed without obvious issues. The test creates OVS datapath, adds a non-LWT tunnel port, makes sure they are created, and then removes the datapath and waits for all the ports to be gone. The dpctl script had a few bugs in the none-lwt tunnel creation code, so fixing them as well to make the testing possible: - The type of the --lwt option changed in order to properly disable it. - Removed byte order conversion for the port numbers, as the value supposed to be in the host order. - Added missing 'gre' choice for the tunnel type. 2025-09-14selftests: openvswitch: add a simple test for tunnel metadataIlya Maximets
This test ensures that upon receiving decapsulated packets from a tunnel interface in openvswitch, the tunnel metadata fields are properly populated. This partially covers interoperability of the kernel tunnel ports and openvswitch tunnels (LWT) and parsing and formatting of the tunnel metadata fields of the openvswitch netlink uAPI. Doing so, this test also ensures that fields and flags are properly extracted during decapsulation by the tunnel core code, serving as a regression test for the previously fixed issue with the DF bit not being extracted from the outer IP header. The ovs-dpctl.py script already supports all that is necessary for the tunnel ports for this test, so we only need to adjust the ovs_add_if() function to pass the '-t' port type argument in order to be able to create tunnel ports in the openvswitch datapath. 2024-12-18selftests: openvswitch: fix tcpdump executionAdrian Moreno
Fix the way tcpdump is executed by: - Using the right variable for the namespace. Currently the use of the empty "ns" makes the command fail. - Waiting until it starts to capture to ensure the interesting traffic is caught on slow systems. - Using line-buffered output to ensure logs are available when the test is paused with "-p". Otherwise the last chunk of data might only be written when tcpdump is killed. 2024-07-11selftests: openvswitch: retry instead of sleepAdrian Moreno
There are a couple of places where the test script "sleep"s to wait for some external condition to be met. This is error prone, specially in slow systems (identified in CI by "KSFT_MACHINE_SLOW=yes"). To fix this, add a "ovs_wait" function that tries to execute a command a few times until it succeeds. The timeout used is set to 5s for "normal" systems and doubled if a slow CI machine is detected. This should make the following work: $ vng --build \ --config tools/testing/selftests/net/config \ --config kernel/configs/debug.config $ vng --run . --user root -- "make -C tools/testing/selftests/ \ KSFT_MACHINE_SLOW=yes TARGETS=net/openvswitch run_tests" Signed-off-by: Adrian Moreno <amorenoz@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Ilya Maximets <i.maximets@ovn.org> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20240710090500.1655212-1-amorenoz@redhat.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

2024-07-03selftests: openvswitch: Attempt to autoload module.Aaron Conole
Previously, the openvswitch.sh test suites would not attempt to autoload the openvswitch module. The idea was that a user who is manually running tests might not even have the OVS module loaded or configured for their own development. However, if the kernel module is configured, and the module can be autoloaded then we should just attempt to load it and run the tests.
