2026-06-03drm/amdkfd: Fix buffer overflow in SDMA queue checkpoint/restore on GFX11Andrew Martin
The v11 MQD manager incorrectly assigned the CP-compute variants of checkpoint_mqd/restore_mqd for KFD_MQD_TYPE_SDMA queues. These functions use sizeof(struct v11_compute_mqd) (2048 bytes) instead of sizeof(struct v11_sdma_mqd) (512 bytes), causing a 1536-byte overflow. During CRIU checkpoint of an SDMA queue on Navi3x: - checkpoint_mqd() reads 2048 bytes from a 512-byte SDMA MQD buffer, leaking 1536 bytes of adjacent GTT memory to userspace During CRIU restore: - restore_mqd() writes 2048 bytes into a 512-byte SDMA MQD buffer, corrupting 1536 bytes of adjacent GTT memory (often the ring buffer or neighboring MQDs) This is a copy-paste regression unique to v11. All other ASIC backends (cik, vi, v9, v10, v12) correctly use the SDMA-specific variants. Add checkpoint_mqd_sdma() and restore_mqd_sdma() functions that properly handle the smaller v11_sdma_mqd structure, matching the pattern used in other MQD managers. 2026-05-11amd/amdkfd: Add kfd_ioctl_profiler to contain profiler kernel driver changesBenjamin Welton
kfd_ioctl_profiler takes a similar approach to that of kfd_ioctl_dbg_trap (which contains debugger related IOCTL services) where kfd_ioctl_profiler will contain all profiler related IOCTL services. The IOCTL is designed to be expanded as needed to support additional profiler functionality. The current functionality of the IOCTL is to allow for profilers which need PMC counters from GPU devices to both signal to other profilers that may be on the system that the device has active PMC profiling taking place on it (multiple PMC profilers on the same device can result in corrupted counter data) and to setup the device to allow for the collection of SQ PMC data on all queues on the device. For PMC data for the SQ block (such as SQ_WAVES) to be available to a profiler, mmPERFCOUNT_ENABLE must be set on the queues. When profiling a single process, the profiler can inject PM4 packets into each queue to turn on PERFCOUNT_ENABLE. When profiling system wide, the profiler does not have this option and must have a way to turn on profiling for queues in which it cannot inject packets into directly. Accomplishing this requires a few steps: 1. Checking if the user has the necessary permissions to profile system wide on the device. This check uses the same check that linux perf uses to determine if a user has the necessary permissions to profile at this scope (primarily if the process has CAP_SYS_PERFMON or is root). 2. Locking the device for profiling. This is done by setting a lock bit on the device struct and storing the process that locked the device. 3. Iterating all queues on the device and issuing an MQD Update to enable perfcounting on the queues. 4. Actions to cleanup if the process exits or releases the lock. The IOCTL also contains a link to the existing PC Sampling IOCTL as well. This is per a suggestion that we should potentially remove the PC Sampling IOCTL to have it be a part of the profiler IOCTL. This is a future change. In addition, we do expect to expand the profiler IOCTL to include additional profiler functionality in the future (which necessitates the use of a version number). v2: sqaush in proper IOCTL number Proposed userpace support: https://github.com/ROCm/rocm-systems/commit/40abc95a6463a61bb318a67efd6d9cc3e5ee8839 Signed-off-by: Benjamin Welton <benjamin.welton@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Perry Yuan <perry.yuan@amd.com> Acked-by: Kent Russell <kent.russell@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Yifan Zhang <yifan1.zhang@amd.com> Acked-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) 2023-06-09drm/amdkfd: add debug suspend and resume process queues operationJonathan Kim
In order to inspect waves from the saved context at any point during a debug session, the debugger must be able to preempt queues to trigger context save by suspending them. On queue suspend, the KFD will copy the context save header information so that the debugger can correctly crawl the appropriate size of the saved context. The debugger must then also be allowed to resume suspended queues. A queue that is newly created cannot be suspended because queue ids are recycled after destruction so the debugger needs to know that this has occurred. Query functions will be later added that will clear a given queue of its new queue status. A queue cannot be destroyed while it is suspended to preserve its saved context during debugger inspection. Have queue destruction block while a queue is suspended and unblocked when it is resumed. Likewise, if a queue is about to be destroyed, it cannot be suspended. Return the number of queues successfully suspended or resumed along with a per queue status array where the upper bits per queue status show that the request was invalid (new/destroyed queue suspend request, missing queue) or an error occurred (HWS in a fatal state so it can't suspend or resume queues). 2023-06-09drm/amdkfd: apply trap workaround for gfx11Jonathan Kim
Due to a HW bug, waves in only half the shader arrays can enter trap. When starting a debug session, relocate all waves to the first shader array of each shader engine and mask off the 2nd shader array as unavailable. When ending a debug session, re-enable the 2nd shader array per shader engine. User CU masking per queue cannot be guaranteed to remain functional if requested during debugging (e.g. user cu mask requests only 2nd shader array as an available resource leading to zero HW resources available) nor can runtime be alerted of any of these changes during execution. Make user CU masking and debugging mutual exclusive with respect to availability. If the debugger tries to attach to a process with a user cu masked queue, return the runtime status as enabled but busy. If the debugger tries to attach and fails to reallocate queue waves to the first shader array of each shader engine, return the runtime status as enabled but with an error. In addition, like any other mutli-process debug supported devices, disable trap temporary setup per-process to avoid performance impact from setup overhead. 2023-06-09drm/amdkfd: Update context save handling for multi XCC setup (v2)Mukul Joshi
Context save handling needs to be updated for a multi XCC setup: - On a multi XCC setup, KFD needs to report context save base address and size for each XCC in MQD. - Thunk will allocate a large context save area covering all XCCs which will be equal to: num_of_xccs in a partition * size of context save area for 1 XCC. However, it will report only the size of context save area for 1 XCC only in the ioctl call. - Driver then setups the MQD correctly using the size passed from Thunk and information about number of XCCs in a partition. - Update get_wave_state function to return context save area for all XCCs in the partition. v2: update the get_wave_state function for mqd manager v11 (Morris) Signed-off-by: Mukul Joshi <mukul.joshi@amd.com> Tested-by: Amber Lin <Amber.Lin@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Felix Kuehling <Felix.Kuehling@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Morris Zhang <Shiwu.Zhang@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

Driver will check whether PCIe atomics are supported and set the bit to 1 if supported. This will force CPFW to use real atomic ops.
