Pause autonegotiation happens with the link partner using the same words
as the link negotiation, used for speed and duplex exchanges. However,
pause and link autonegotiation can be separately toggled :
ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on # Enable link negotiation
ethtool -A eth0 autoneg on # Enable Pause negotiation
Pause can't be negotiated if the link autoneg isn't enabled.
Pause autoneg and link autoneg settings must not interfere with one
another when user is configuring them :
- If Pause autoneg is on, it must stay on when link autoneg is disabled
(even though Pause won't actually be negotiated)
- If Pause autoneg is off, it must stay off when link autoneg is
enabled
Introduce a set of tests to verify that pause and link autoneg are
behaving correctly, in particular that the user intent is correctly
cached when toggling link autoneg.

Pause autonegotiation behaves differently than the regular link params
autonegotiation, in that the user intention may differ from the
negotiated pause parameters.
Introduce a test that validates we're correctly resolving pause
parameters according to 802.3.
The validation is done based on what the local interface reports in
terms of advertised and lp_advertised linkmodes.
If the remote can express what it sees in terms of its own advertised
and lp_advertised modes, validate the autoneg results on the peer as
well.

Ethernet flow control is a tricky thing to get right, especially when it
comes to correctly handling the negotiation of the parameters with a
link partner.
On one hand, the userspace API talks in terms of the device's ability to
send Pause frames when the device is overwhelmed by ingress traffic (TX
pause) and the ability to stop sending traffic upon receiving Pause
frames (RX pause).
On the other hand, 802.3 explains that devices can exchange their
abilities over link negotiation, but instead of echanging TX and RX
abilities, they exchange Pause and Asymmetric Pause capabilities :
RX unable TX unable => None
RX able TX unable => Pause + Asymmetric
RX unable TX able => Asymmetric
RX able TX able => Pause
The reported Pause and Asym abilities depend both on the MAC, that
eventually sends and processes these frames, and the PHY, that
advertises these to the partner.
Both MAC and PHYs can have their own limitations, and getting the
correct set of supported Pause/Asym parameters is non-trivial, unless
the MAC uses phylink, which deals with the complexity.
Introduce a set of Pause selftests that verify that the local
interface's supported pause parameters reported from ethtool (in terms
of Pause + Asym ) match the accepted parameters from "ethtool -A",
corresponding to ethtool's .set_pauseparams() ops, expressed in TX and
RX abilities.

The large-chunk test always requests two base pages. On interfaces with
a large MTU, that may not exceed two maximum-sized frames.
Request a power-of-two buffer larger than twice the MTU. This makes the

Add a test that validates ping traffic over VLAN interfaces. It aims
to catch drivers which mishandle hardware VLAN tag stripping, in
particular QinQ.
Three VLAN configurations are covered, each with hardware RX VLAN
stripping enabled and disabled (via the rx-vlan-offload and
rx-vlan-stag-hw-parse features):
- a single 802.1q VLAN interface
- a single 802.1ad VLAN interface
- an 802.1q VLAN stacked on top of an 802.1ad interface
The "hw" test variants enable the RX VLAN stripping features supported
by the device (rx-vlan-offload and rx-vlan-stag-hw-parse), the "sw"
test variants disable all of them. A test is xfailed if the requested
configuration is not possible.
VLAN insertion offloads are not tested for now.

devmem.py fails on the HW runners with:
CMD[remote]: dd if=/dev/zero bs=512 count=1 2>/dev/null | socat -b 512 \
-u - TCP6:[fd00:2::1]:50051,bind=[fd00:2::2]:50051,nodelay
STDERR: socat[41018] W bind(5, {AF=10 [fd00:2::2]:50051}, 28): \
Address already in use
ncdevmem installs a 5-tuple flow rule which matches the source port, so
socat has to bind it explicitly. The port comes from rand_port(), which
checks availability on the DUT - but we bind on the remote...
That said the failure rate seems to high to be random collisions
(~2% per sub-test). It's probably TIME_WAIT sockets on the remote,
run_rx_hds() alone creates 12 of them.
Set reuseaddr so a TIME_WAIT socket does not fail the bind. Collisions
with a live socket are still possible, we'll see if they are frequent
enough to care.

Setting a sysctl or a sysfs attribute for the duration of a test and
putting the old value back has been open coded multiple times.
We generally avoid creating library helpers but this one is very
common, and the defer is a little tricky as using the same function
for defer as the initial write leads to an infinite loop (not that
I would ever make such mistake!)
Some of the conversions are not identical, but arguably ctl_file_write()
semantics are more correct.

When I tried to install and run bonding selftests via:
make INSTALL_PATH=/tmp/kself TARGETS=drivers/net/bonding \
-C tools/testing/selftests install
Some tests fail because net/lib/sh/defer.sh is missing:
/tmp/kself/net/forwarding/../lib.sh: line 5: /tmp/kself/net/lib/sh/defer.sh: No such file or directory
One option is to add defer.sh directly to TEST_INCLUDES. Alternatively,
follow the approach from commit f72aa1b27628 ("selftests: net: include
lib/sh/*.sh with lib.sh"), which pulls in all .sh files to accommodate
future changes to the library directory.
This patch adds a wildcard to include all shell files for drivers/net
tests that consume net lib.sh. TEST_INCLUDES is also sorted to avoid
ordering‑related problems for future modifications. The team driver is
not affected by this bug, but we use the wildcard for it as well, rather
than listing only defer.sh.

To test for the presence of zerocopy support in the available liburing,
a small check program is compiled.
The CC value used for the io_uring library check defaults to the host
compiler, which will incorrectly validate liburing based on the host's
sysroot and not the target's.
Normally the CC for cross-compile is set in lib.mk, but this also
requires the test list to be set when we include it, and this check
needs to run first.
Note that this doesn't cover the LLVM cross-compiling case though, as
with LLVM we may still detect based on the host liburing.

The devlink port_split test has limited applicability.
NICs (as opposed to switches) require at least a re-probe
to apply the split configuration.
On top of that the test is not compatible with our driver env,
it just splits all ports on the system, not only what NETIF
points at.
Long term we may want to add some indication in devlink whether
the port splitting is runtime (cmode of sorts), and fix the
test to follow driver env. But since no (known) NIC driver can
support runtime anyway let's just hide the test from the selftest
framework by moving it to extra files.
Having this test randomly break unrelated NICs within the DUT
makes people implement allow-lists for ksft, which then means
their setups don't run new tests. It's very useful during test
review to see whether the test works across all the runners.

Some devices refresh the statistics exposed via ethtool only
periodically, every stats-block-usecs (as reported by ethtool -c).
ethtool_std_stats and ethtool_rmon sample the counters immediately
after generating traffic, so on such devices they can read stale
values and fail with a delta short of the packets just sent.
Add a hw_stats_settle() helper which sleeps for 1.25x the configured
stats-block-usecs (defaulting to 20ms when the device reports no, or
a zero, period). Use it for ethtool std stats and RMON.

HDS mode has confusing semantics. On GET kernel reports
effective mode. On SET kernel expects explicit config.
Effective mode on GET means that we know the current
state, but we don't know if it's a driver default
or user setting. This matter because driver default
can change automatically when e.g. XDP is attached.
Explicit user setting must not be lost.
With that in mind, we can't restore the HDS setting
like we restore other NIC config. We should always
reset to default ("unknown").
This fixes an issue with tests running after the devmem
test not being able to attach XDP, e.g.

query_nic_features() detects which offloads depend on tx-gso-partial
by enabling everything, turning tx-gso-partial off, and seeing which
active features drop out. Enabling all hw features is dangerous:
we may end up enabling rx-fcs and loopback for example. For the
ice driver we end up getting into problems with feature dependencies
so the cleanup isn't successful either, and the test exits with
rx-fcs and loopback enabled.
Scope the feature probing just to segmentation bits.

Add test_iou_zcrx_large_buf, which runs iou-zcrx with rx_buf_len >
page size (-x 2) through a netkit-leased RX queue. The netkit ifindex
is opaque to io_uring, but rx_page_size is honoured by the leased
physical qops via netif_mp_open_rxq()'s lease redirect.
Originally, I also added a BIG TCP variant on top, but dropped it
here as fbnic (and the QEMU fbnic model) has no BIG TCP support
to exercise it as this point.
Tested against the QEMU fbnic emulation. The new test exercises
the > page rx_buf_len path only when the leased NIC advertises
QCFG_RX_PAGE_SIZE; otherwise it skips.
For fbnic, I used Bjorn's patches locally [0]:
# ./nk_qlease.py

ok 5 nk_qlease.test_destroy

Without those patches (aka not advertising QCFG_RX_PAGE_SIZE):

The HW counterpart of nk_qlease.py was carrying its lease setup in main()
and stashing src_queue / nk_queue / nk_*_ifname on cfg, which had drawbacks
called out during the review at [0].
This is the deferred half of the cleanup that landed in commit e254ffb9502c

was the SW counterpart of nk_qlease.py.
While at it, convert the open-coded "ip netns exec" prefixes in the test

The server binds the queues for zero-copy after listen(). If the client
does a connect() during this time it can fail with EHOSTUNREACH on
a cold system. This was encountered with the mlx5 driver where binding
the .ndo_queue_start() is a slow operation during which no packets
can be exchanged.
This change moves listen() after queue binding, when the test server is
fully operational.

Add userns_devmem.py, which mirrors nk_devmem.py but places the netkit
guest in a netns whose owning user_ns is non-init. ncdevmem is ran there
via nsenter so the bind-rx call is issued with creds that hold
CAP_NET_ADMIN only in the child user_ns.
Without the preceding GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM patch the test fails at
bind-rx with EPERM, but with the patch the transfer completes and tests
pass.

Add nk_devmem.py with four tests for TCP devmem through a netkit device.
These tests are just duplicates of the original devmem tests, with some
adjusted parameters such as telling ncdevmem to avoid device setup
(since it only has access to netkit, not a phys device).
Each test uses NetDrvContEnv with primary_rx_redirect=True to set up the
BPF redirect program on the primary netkit interface, then calls a
shared run_*() helper which probes for devmem support and configures
the NIC (HDS, RSS, queue lease) before driving the test. NIC state is
restored per-test via defer() callbacks registered inside the helper.

When sending from a namespace that has access to a netkit device with a
leased queue, the nk primary in the host namespace needs to redirect its
RX to the physical device. This patch adds that redirection bpf program
and teaches the harness to install it.
Add primary_rx_redirect=False parameter to NetDrvContEnv.__init__().
When enabled, _attach_primary_rx_redirect_bpf() attaches a new BPF TC
program (nk_primary_rx_redirect.bpf.c) to the primary (host-side) netkit
interface. The program redirects non-ICMPv6 IPv6 packets to the physical
NIC via bpf_redirect_neigh(), with the physical ifindex configured via
the .bss map. ICMPv6 is left on the host's netkit primary so IPv6
neighbor discovery still work locally.
Extract _find_bss_map_id() from _attach_bpf() into a reusable helper so
other BPF attachment methods can use it.

Adding netkit-based devmem tests is a straight-forward copy of devmem
test commands plus some args for the nk cases, so this patch breaks out
these command builders into helpers used by both.
Though we tried to avoid libraries to avoid increasing the barrier of
entry/complexity (see selftests/drivers/net/README.md, section "Avoid
libraries and frameworks"), factoring out these functions seemed like
the lesser of two evils in this case of using the same commands, just
with slightly different args per environment.
I experimented with just having all of the tests in the same file to
avoid having helpers in a library file, but because ksft_run() is
limited to a single call per file, and the new tests will require
different environments (NetDrvContEnv/NetDrvEpEnv), it would have been
necessary to have each test set up its own environment instead of
sharing one for the entire ksft_run() run. This came at the cost of
ballooning the test time (from under 5s to 30s on my test system), so to
strike a balance these tests were placed in separate files so they could
keep a shared environment across a single ksft_run() run shared across
all tests using the same env type (introduced in subsequent patches).
The helpers work transparently with both plain and netkit environments
by inspecting cfg for netkit-specific attributes (netns, nk_queue,
etc...).

Add a -n (skip_config) flag that causes ncdevmem to skip NIC
configuration when operating as an RX server. When -n is passed,
ncdevmem skips configuring header split, RSS, and flow steering, as well
as their teardown on exit.
This allows ksft tests to pre-configure the NIC in the host namespace
before launching ncdevmem in the guest namespace. This is needed for
netkit devmem tests where the test harness namespace has direct access
to the NIC and the ncdevmem namespace does not.
