TIPC assumes that the received skb is not shared with other users.
However, syzbot reports a bug triggered by receiving a shared skb:
...

tipc_l2_rcv_msg+0x2d9/0x470 net/tipc/bearer.c:669
deliver_ptype_list_skb net/core/dev.c:2533 [inline]
...
The root cause is that local delivery hooks in the kernel (e.g.,
deliver_skb()) may increment the skb's reference count (`users`) before
TIPC processes it on ingress.
Fix this by calling skb_share_check() to ensure exclusive ownership
before passing the skb to tipc_rcv(). As TIPC needs to modify the skb's
data, the cloned skb needs to be uncloned when needed. This can be
addressed in separate patch.

TIPC group broadcast senders are blocked while a replicast still has
outstanding member acks: tipc_group_bc_cong() returns true as long as
grp->bc_ackers is non-zero, and clears *grp->open, which is what
tipc_poll() uses to report EPOLLOUT (via tsk->group_is_open).
When the last outstanding acker departs before acking,
tipc_group_delete_member() decrements grp->bc_ackers to zero but
never restores *grp->open. As a result poll(EPOLLOUT) never fires
again. A writer blocked in sendmsg() is only released if some other
wakeup happens after the deletion: with TIPC_GROUP_MEMBER_EVTS the
leave event delivery calls sk_data_ready() and wakes it, but without
member events nothing does and it sleeps indefinitely, since the
default send timeout is MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT.
Commit 99cc2a62e07a ("tipc: reject invalid and unexpected
GRP_ACK_MSG to prevent bc_ackers underflow") already calls this out
in its changelog as a pre-existing issue.
Restore the open state exactly on the 1->0 transition in the delete
path, mirroring the GRP_ACK_MSG completion path, and invoke
sk->sk_write_space() from tipc_sk_filter_rcv() when the group just
became writable again.
Also make the ack accounting precise. The delete path used to test
less(m->bc_acked, grp->bc_snd_nxt - 1), which also matches members
that were never counted for the current replicast (JOINING/LEAVING
members keep a stale bc_acked), and the GRP_ACK_MSG handler accepted
an ack from any member whose bc_acked differed from the expected
value. Either could zero bc_ackers on behalf of a member that owes
nothing and silently void an ack still owed by a real acker. Track
whether a member owes an ack for the current replicast in a new
per-member bc_pending flag, set when the member is counted and
cleared when its ack arrives, and use it both to accept an ack and
to decide on deletion. bc_acked has no remaining user and is
removed. Suggested by Tung Quang Nguyen.

When the last reference to a tipc_node is dropped, the node itself is
deferred to the RCU callback tipc_node_free(), but the nested broadcast
reception link, n->bc_entry.link, is kfree()d synchronously in
tipc_node_kref_release(), before call_rcu(), and the pointer is never
cleared. Readers that obtained the node from node_list and then
dereference bc_entry.link deep into the link (tipc_link_name() in
tipc_nl_node_reset_link_stats(), bcl->name/stats in
tipc_nl_add_bc_link() on the link dump path) therefore touch freed
memory although the enclosing node stays alive for a full grace period.
The sibling per-bearer links get "kfree + NULL" under the node write
lock in tipc_node_clear_links(); the broadcast entry was missed.
The race is reachable through the node cleanup timer: once a peer has
been unreachable for NODE_CLEANUP_AFTER (300 s), tipc_node_timeout() ->
tipc_node_cleanup() unlinks the node under the write lock, and the
final tipc_node_put() at the caller runs outside node_list_lock, so the
kfree executes in timer softirq context, concurrently with genl dump/
reset walkers that hold only rcu_read_lock(). (A netlink "peer remove"
cannot race those walkers itself: tipc_genl_family has no parallel_ops,
so all doit/dumpit calls serialize on the global genl lock.)
Reproduced in a QEMU/KVM guest running v7.3.0 with KASAN and
PREEMPT(full): 10 TIPC peer namespaces on veth bearers, bearer removal
staggered so the 300 s node cleanup timers expire while other tasks
loop link dumps with the broadcast filter and reset-link-stats lookups.
KASAN hit within two cleanup cycles:

with the freed object being the kmalloc-1k tipc_link allocated by
tipc_link_bc_create() during peer discovery. The same defect fires in
strcmp() called from tipc_nl_node_reset_link_stats().
Move the kfree of n->bc_entry.link into the tipc_node_free() RCU
callback so the broadcast link lives exactly as long as the enclosing
node. All readers are covered: the netlink walkers are inside
rcu_read_lock(), and the packet reception path reaches the node via
tipc_node_find(), whose kref defers kref_release itself.

surfaced by a Coccinelle rule, and the reader/writer paths were
confirmed by LLM-assisted (GLM-5.3) code inspection.

skb_unshare() only copies cloned skbs. A shared skb that is not a clone
comes back unchanged, which the name doesn't suggest. The loopback
selftest hooks got caught by this and hit BUG_ON(skb_shared()).
Rename it to skb_unclone_full(). Like skb_unclone() it only acts on
clones, but it copies the whole skb, not just the head.

struct tipc_bearer keeps the bearer MTU in a u32 while struct tipc_link
keeps the link MTU in a u16. tipc_enable_l2_media() and the
NETDEV_CHANGEMTU notifier both do b->mtu = dev->mtu, tipc_link_create()
assigns that into l->mtu, and tipc_link_set_queue_limits() divides by it:
int max_bulk = TIPC_MAX_PUBL / (l->mtu / ITEM_SIZE);
ITEM_SIZE is 20, so a device MTU of 65536 truncates to 0 and the
division faults.
tipc_mtu_bad() is the only check on either assignment and tests a lower
bound only. The truncation defeats even that: a device MTU of 65556
passes it, yet the link comes out with l->mtu = 20, below the
TIPC_MIN_BEARER_MTU the check exists to enforce, and tipc_link_mss()
then evaluates 20 - INT_H_SIZE - EMSG_OVERHEAD as an int and stores it
in the u32 tipc_link_entry::mtu. Read back over TIPC_NL_LINK_GET, every
device MTU above 65535 leaves the link with a wrong MTU: 20 at 65556,
464 at 66000, 32768 at 98304.
The bound added in commit 9f29cd8a8e79 ("tipc: fix u16 MTU truncation in
media and bearer MTU validation") applies to TIPC_NLA_PROP_MTU in
tipc_nl_prop_policy, which covers TIPC_NL_MEDIA_SET and
TIPC_NL_BEARER_SET. A device MTU never passes through that policy.
dummy sets max_mtu to 0, and dev_validate_mtu() applies its ceiling only
when max_mtu is non-zero, so the device accepts 65536; a macvlan inherits
max_mtu from its lower device,
and two macvlans in bridge mode on one dummy carry each other's TIPC
discovery frames, so the bearer reaches tipc_node_check_dest() and
tipc_link_create() with b->mtu = 65536. TIPC_NL_BEARER_ENABLE is
GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM, so an unprivileged user can do this in a user
namespace of their own, on a kernel that has TIPC loaded.

tipc_topsrv_stop() closed subscriber connections while the topology
server's send and receive workqueues were still running. Socket
callbacks and subscription events could then queue more work, and
in-flight send/recv work could drop the last connection reference
during the conn_idr walk.
That race produced several teardown failures: refcount_t addition on
0 from conn_get() on a connection whose release was blocked on
idr_lock, a subsequent use-after-free in tipc_conn_close(),
queue_work() on an already destroyed workqueue from the listener
data-ready callback, and an RCU stall in tipc_topsrv_exit_net()
while the walk spun under idr_lock.
Clear srv->listener under idr_lock so it acts as a shutdown flag,
skip queue_work() once it is NULL, destroy the workqueues to flush
in-flight work, and only then close the remaining connections.
Refuse tipc_conn_lookup() after that flag is cleared, and drop
idr_lock when the teardown walk finds no connection, so an
in-flight subscription event cannot pin idr_in_use while the
walk holds the lock.
v3 supersedes the narrower in-thread diff Tung Quang Nguyen
posted on 2026-09-23. It keeps his teardown order and adds the
lookup refusal and the empty-idr unlock.

tipc_node_find_by_name() returns a node after dropping its RCU read lock
without taking a reference. The LINK_SET, LINK_GET and LINK_RESET_STATS
handlers then lock and access the node, racing with timer-driven cleanup of
a down peer. Generic netlink serialization does not exclude the node
timer.
The following interleaving can leave a handler using a freed node:
CPU 0: find the node under RCU and release the node read lock
CPU 1: tipc_node_timeout() clears the links and unlinks the down node
CPU 1: drop the list and timer references, queuing tipc_node_free()
CPU 0: leave the RCU read-side critical section
CPU 1: complete the grace period and free the node
CPU 0: acquire the node lock through the stale pointer
LINK_SET also uses the node's media address after releasing the node lock,
when passing queued packets to tipc_bearer_xmit().

TIPC can encrypt traffic between nodes using a different transmit key
for each node. In this mode, the AES-GCM nonce for a packet sent to a
known peer consists of a 32-bit prefix (a per-key salt XOR the peer's
address) followed by a 64-bit counter. That counter is stored in the
peer's RX crypto object. When the peer reports a change in which key
it uses to receive packets, TIPC resets this counter. The sender can
still be using the same TX key and salt, so subsequent packets reuse
earlier nonces. This nonce reuse breaks confidentiality and exposes
GCM's authentication key. This makes forgeries trivial: an attacker
can exploit CTR malleability to alter captured ciphertexts and use the
recovered authentication key to compute a valid tag for the modified
ciphertext, under the same key and nonce.
Use the TX key's existing aead->seqno counter instead. All encryptions
using that key object share the same atomic counter, so concurrent
encryptions get distinct nonce counter values. The counter survives
key activation and peer reconnection, and peer key-status reports
cannot reset it. This prevents those transitions from causing nonce
reuse while the same TX key remains installed.
The nonce format is unchanged, and receivers do not require consecutive
counter values, so sharing the counter across peers remains compatible
with existing receivers. A pre-existing check still invokes key
revocation in the unlikely event that the counter wraps to zero.

mon_timeout() evaluates dom_size(mon->peer_cnt) before it takes mon->lock,
while mon->peer_cnt is updated under that lock by tipc_mon_add_peer() and
tipc_mon_remove_peer(). The value can therefore be stale, and the decision
whether the local domain has to be recomputed can be based on an outdated
member count.

Commit 48a5fe38772b ("tipc: fix bc_ackers underflow on duplicate
GRP_ACK_MSG") rejected duplicate/stale ACKs in tipc_group_proto_rcv()
by returning early when less_eq(acked, m->bc_acked).
However, that check remains incomplete in two ways:
1. When grp->bc_ackers is zero (e.g. on a quiet group, when replicast
ACKs were not requested, or after all expected members have already
acknowledged), an unexpected GRP_ACK_MSG with acked > m->bc_acked
passes less_eq() and unconditionally decrements grp->bc_ackers.
Because bc_ackers is a u16, this wraps to 65535, causing
tipc_group_bc_cong() to permanently report congestion and blocking
all future group broadcasts on the socket.
2. During an active broadcast round (grp->bc_ackers > 0), the sender
transmits packet S and advances grp->bc_snd_nxt to S + 1. Receivers
increment their expected counter to S + 1 upon consuming packet S,
so the only valid ACK value for the current round is strictly
acked == grp->bc_snd_nxt.
However, tipc_group_update_bc_members() initializes each member's
m->bc_acked to prev = grp->bc_snd_nxt - 1 (S - 1 before increment).
This leaves a 2-sequence gap (S - 1 to S + 1) in sequence space.
An incoming ACK is therefore neither rejected as duplicate nor
prevented from decrementing grp->bc_ackers if an unexpected or stale
value (such as S) is received. A member sending acked = S followed
by acked = S + 1 could decrement grp->bc_ackers twice in the same
round, prematurely clearing bc_ackers or underflowing it.
Fix this by:
- Dropping GRP_ACK_MSG immediately if grp->bc_ackers is zero.
- Requiring acked == grp->bc_snd_nxt and rejecting duplicates where
m->bc_acked == acked. Because replicast broadcast rounds are strictly
sequential, only grp->bc_snd_nxt can be acknowledged, and each member
can acknowledge at most once per round.
Note that a related pre-existing issue in tipc_group_delete_member()
(where grp->bc_ackers decrementing to zero upon member departure does

The `strcpy()` function is deprecated and moving towards code-tree
elimination. Replacing it with `strscpy()` fixes potential buffer
overflow vectors by ensuring safe NULL-termination based on the
destination buffer size limit [1][2].
To make the interface safer and more robust for future callers, refactor
`tipc_bearer_get_name()` to accept a destination buffer length parameter.
Replace `strcpy()` with `strscpy()` and pass through any potential
`-E2BIG` truncation error code up to the caller. Update the existing
caller in `net/tipc/monitor.c` to pass its array size.

Replace the strcpy(data, l->if_name) with memcpy() so that the

User-space applications can bind a large number of service addresses to
one or more sockets. Each binding of a local-scope service address inserts
one entry (publication) into the TIPC name table. If the number of these
publications exceeds TIPC_MAX_PUBL (65535), protocol service types
(such as node state and link state) are no longer inserted into the name
table. This causes two issues:
1. User-space applications subscribing to node or link up/down events
stop receiving notifications.
2. A NULL pointer dereference can occur:

If 'tipc_nametbl_publish()' (Thread 1) fails because the number of
local publications reaches TIPC_MAX_PUBL, list (Thread 2) will be empty. As a
result, NULL is passed to 'buf_msg()', leading to a NULL pointer dereference.
Fix these issues by allowing protocol service types (node state, link state,
and topology server) to be inserted into the name table unconditionally.
This ensures that users subscribing to these types always receive
notifications. In addition, the maximum number of local user publications is
reduced to (TIPC_MAX_PUBL - 1). This ensures that the maximum bulk size
calculated in tipc_link_set_queue_limits() remains valid.

The tipc_node_reset_links trace event asks tipc_node_dump() to walk the
node's link entries. Unlike the other node events that request link data,
this event runs without the node lock.
This permits bearer teardown to free a link while the trace callback is
dumping it:

tipc_node_link_down() caches the link pointer before taking n->lock:
struct tipc_link *l = le->link; /* unlocked */
if (!l)
return;
tipc_node_write_lock(n);
if (!tipc_link_is_establishing(l)) { /* deref l */
...
tipc_link_reset(l); /* write into l */
if (delete) {
kfree(l);
le->link = NULL;
The delete=true caller frees that very object under n->lock, so the lock
does not protect the cached pointer against it:
- CPU A, delete=false: tipc_rcv() on TIPC_LINK_DOWN_EVT, or the link
supervision timer via tipc_node_timeout(), reads l unlocked and then
dereferences it under n->lock;
- CPU B, delete=true: netlink TIPC_NL_BEARER_DISABLE -> bearer_disable()
-> tipc_node_delete_links() -> tipc_node_link_down(n, bearer_id, true)
-> kfree(l).
The link is freed with plain kfree(), not kfree_rcu(), and for UDP bearers
disable_media() only schedules the asynchronous cleanup_bearer() work, so
its synchronize_net() runs after the links are already gone. An in-flight
CPU A that has read l therefore dereferences freed memory once B frees it:
a use-after-free read in tipc_link_is_establishing(), and a use-after-free
write via tipc_link_reset() on the establishing branch.

TIPC socket tracepoints dump queue state through tipc_sk_dump(). Most
queue-dump callsites already serialize that walk under the socket lock or
sk->sk_lock.slock, but tipc_poll() calls trace_tipc_sk_poll(...,
TIPC_DUMP_ALL, ...) without holding either lock.
That lets the poll trace path reach tipc_list_dump() and backlog head/tail
dumping while another context dequeues and frees an skb, leaving the trace
helper dereferencing a stale queue entry.
Stop the unlocked poll trace site from requesting queue dumps. Other queue
dump trace callsites keep their existing output under the locking they
already provide, while poll still emits the event itself without walking
live queue members from an unlocked context.

In tipc_recvmsg(), the copy length is computed as:
copy = min_t(int, dlen - offset, buflen);
buflen is size_t but min_t(int, ...) casts it to int. When buflen
exceeds INT_MAX (e.g. 0xFFFFFFFF via io_uring provided buffers), it
wraps negative, wins the comparison, and the negative copy length
propagates to simple_copy_to_iter() where int-to-size_t promotion
makes it SIZE_MAX, triggering a WARN_ON. tipc_recvstream() has the
same pattern.

When tipc_sk_create() fails to insert the new socket (tipc_sk_insert()
returns non-zero), its error path frees the sk with sk_free() but leaves
sock->sk pointing at the freed object:
if (tipc_sk_insert(tsk)) {
sk_free(sk);
pr_warn("Socket create failed; port number exhausted\n");
return -EINVAL;
}
This is harmless for plain socket(): the syscall layer clears sock->ops
before releasing, so tipc_release() is never called. It is not harmless
on the accept() path. tipc_accept() creates the pre-allocated child
socket with tipc_sk_create(net, new_sock, 0, kern); on failure it leaves
new_sock->sk dangling and new_sock->ops non-NULL, and do_accept() then
fput()s the new file, so __sock_release() -> tipc_release() runs
lock_sock(new_sock->sk) on the freed sk -- a use-after-free write of the
sk_lock spinlock.
tipc_release() already guards this exact "failed accept() releases a
pre-allocated child" case with "if (sk == NULL) return 0;", but the
guard is bypassed because tipc_sk_create() left sock->sk non-NULL
(dangling) rather than NULL.
Clear sock->sk on the failed-insert path so the existing tipc_release()
NULL check fires and the use-after-free is avoided.
The tipc_sk_insert() failure is reached when the per-netns socket
rhashtable hits its max_size (tsk_rht_params.max_size = 1048576, ~2M
elements) -- i.e. once a netns holds ~2M TIPC sockets every insert
returns -E2BIG.

Both TIPC_NL_MEDIA_SET and TIPC_NL_BEARER_SET accept user-supplied
MTU values but only enforce a minimum bound, not a maximum. When a user
sets the MTU to a value exceeding U16_MAX (65535), it passes validation
but is silently truncated when assigned to u16 fields l->mtu and
l->advertised_mtu in tipc_link_create(). Values like 65536 (0x10000)
truncate to 0, causing a division by zero in tipc_link_set_queue_limits()
which computes TIPC_MAX_PUBL / (l->mtu / ITEM_SIZE). Other overflowing
values (e.g. 65537-131071) produce small incorrect MTU values, resulting
in link malfunction behaviors.

A broadcast PROTOCOL/STATE_MSG can carry a Gap ACK blocks record in its
data area. tipc_get_gap_ack_blks() only verifies that the record's len
field is self-consistent with its ugack_cnt/bgack_cnt counts
(sz == struct_size(p, gacks, ugack_cnt + bgack_cnt)); it does not check
that the record actually fits in the message data area, msg_data_sz().
The unicast caller tipc_link_proto_rcv() bounds it ("if (glen > dlen)
break;"), but the broadcast caller tipc_bcast_sync_rcv() discards the
returned size, so tipc_link_advance_transmq() copies the record off the
receive skb with an attacker-controlled count:
this_ga = kmemdup(ga, struct_size(ga, gacks, ga->bgack_cnt),
GFP_ATOMIC);
A TIPC neighbour that negotiated TIPC_GAP_ACK_BLOCK triggers it with one
ordinary broadcast STATE_MSG (msg_bc_ack_invalid() clear), sized so its
data area is short, carrying a Gap ACK record with len = 0x400,
bgack_cnt = 0xff and ugack_cnt = 0. len then equals
struct_size(p, gacks, 255), so the consistency check passes and ga is
non-NULL; kmemdup() reads struct_size(ga, gacks, 255) = 1024 bytes out
of the much smaller skb:

the read is already out of bounds at the kmemdup() regardless of how
they are used.
The unicast STATE path drops such a message: "if (glen > dlen) break;"
skips the rest of STATE_MSG handling and the skb is freed. Make the
broadcast path drop it too. tipc_bcast_sync_rcv() now bounds the record
against msg_data_sz() and, when it does not fit, reports it back through
tipc_node_bc_sync_rcv() to tipc_rcv() so the skb is discarded rather than
processed. ga is not cleared on this path: ga == NULL already means
"legacy peer without Selective ACK", a distinct legitimate state.

Blamed commit introduced a busy-wait loop in tipc_exit_net()
to wait for pending UDP bearer cleanup works to complete:
while (atomic_read(&tn->wq_count))
cond_resched();
This loop can busy-wait for a long time if cond_resched() is a NOP. This
typically happens if the netns exit is executed by a high priority task,
or under kernels configured without preemption (CONFIG_PREEMPT_NONE). In
such cases, it wastes CPU cycles and can lead to soft lockups.
Fix this by replacing the busy loop with wait_var_event(), allowing the
thread to sleep properly until the work queue count reaches zero.
Accordingly, update cleanup_bearer() to use atomic_dec_and_test() and
wake_up_var() to wake up the waiter when the count drops to zero.
This uses the global wait queue hash table, avoiding the need to bloat

TIPC UDP media bearer teardown calls dst_cache_destroy() on its
replicast caches before calling synchronize_net() to wait for
concurrent RCU readers (transmitters) to finish:
static void cleanup_bearer(struct work_struct *work)
{
...
list_for_each_entry_safe(rcast, tmp, &ub->rcast.list, list) {
dst_cache_destroy(&rcast->dst_cache);
list_del_rcu(&rcast->list);
kfree_rcu(rcast, rcu);
}
...
dst_cache_destroy(&ub->rcast.dst_cache);
udp_tunnel_sock_release(ub->sk);
synchronize_net();
...
}
This is highly buggy because dst_cache_destroy() immediately frees the
per-CPU cache memory (free_percpu()) and releases the cached dst
entries without any synchronization.
If a concurrent transmitter (e.g., tipc_udp_xmit()) is running on another
CPU under RCU protection, it can call dst_cache_get() concurrently,
leading to:
1. Use-After-Free on the per-CPU cache pointer itself (crash).
2. "rcuref - imbalanced put()" warning if it attempts to release a
dst that was concurrently released by dst_cache_destroy().
Furthermore, calling kfree(ub) immediately after synchronize_net() without
closing the socket first (or waiting after closing it) leaves a window
where a concurrent receiver (tipc_udp_recv()) could start after
synchronize_net(), access ub, and suffer a UAF when kfree(ub) runs.
To fix this, we must defer dst_cache_destroy() and kfree(ub) until after
we have ensured that no more readers can see the bearer/socket and all
existing readers have finished:
1. Defer rcast entry destruction (both dst_cache_destroy() and kfree())
to an RCU callback using call_rcu_hurry().
Using call_rcu_hurry() ensures the dst entries are released quickly.
2. Release the bearer socket using udp_tunnel_sock_release() (stops
new receive readers).
3. Call synchronize_net() to wait for all outstanding RCU readers
(both transmit and receive) to finish.
4. Now that it is safe, call dst_cache_destroy() on the main bearer
cache, and free ub.
Note: 3) and 4) can be changed later in net-next to also use
call_rcu_hurry() and get rid of the synchronize_net() latency.

bearer_disable() frees b->disc with tipc_disc_delete()'s plain kfree(),
but tipc_disc_rcv() still dereferences b->disc in RX softirq under
rcu_read_lock() (tipc_udp_recv -> tipc_rcv -> tipc_disc_rcv).
L2 bearers are safe thanks to the synchronize_net() in

cleanup_bearer() workqueue, so the discoverer is freed with no grace

Because the RCU callback (tipc_disc_free_rcu) lives in module text, a

invoke a freed function. Add an rcu_barrier() to tipc_exit() after the
bearer subsystem has been torn down, so all pending discoverer callbacks
have run before the module text goes away.

tipc_aead_decrypt() goes straight from tipc_bearer_hold(b) to
crypto_aead_decrypt(req) without taking a reference on the netns, unlike
the encrypt path. When crypto_aead_decrypt() is offloaded asynchronously
(e.g. the SIMD aead wrapper queuing to cryptd), the cryptd worker runs
tipc_aead_decrypt_done() later. If the bearer's netns is torn down in the
meantime, cleanup_net() -> tipc_exit_net() -> tipc_crypto_stop() frees the
per-netns tipc_crypto, and the completion then reads it:
tipc_aead_decrypt_done() dereferences aead->crypto->stats and
aead->crypto->net, and tipc_crypto_rcv_complete() dereferences
aead->crypto->aead[] and the node table -- reading freed memory.

This is the same class of bug that commit e279024617134 ("net/tipc: fix
slab-use-after-free Read in tipc_aead_encrypt_done") fixed for the encrypt
side. The encrypt path takes maybe_get_net(aead->crypto->net) before
crypto_aead_encrypt() and drops it with put_net() on the synchronous
return paths and in tipc_aead_encrypt_done(); the -EINPROGRESS/-EBUSY
return keeps the reference for the async callback to release. The decrypt
path was left without the equivalent guard.
Mirror the encrypt-side fix on the decrypt path: take a net reference
before crypto_aead_decrypt() (failing with -ENODEV and the matching
bearer put if it cannot be acquired), keep it across the
-EINPROGRESS/-EBUSY async return, and drop it with put_net() on the
synchronous success/error return and at the end of
tipc_aead_decrypt_done().
Reproduced under KASAN on v7.1-rc7: a UDP bearer with a cluster key is
flooded with crafted encrypted frames from an unknown peer (driving the
cluster-key decrypt path) while the bearer's netns is repeatedly torn
down. The completion must run asynchronously to outlive
tipc_crypto_stop(); on x86 the stock aesni gcm(aes) now decrypts
synchronously, so the async path was exercised via cryptd offload. The
unguarded aead->crypto dereference in tipc_aead_decrypt_done() is the
unpatched upstream path; tipc_aead_decrypt() still lacks
maybe_get_net(aead->crypto->net), so the completion can outlive the free
on any config where crypto_aead_decrypt() goes async.

Syzbot reported a slab-use-after-free in ipvlan_hard_header() when
called from tipc_l2_send_msg().
The root cause is that tipc_disable_l2_media() calls synchronize_net()
while b->media_ptr is still valid. This allows concurrent RCU readers
to obtain the device pointer after synchronize_net() has finished.
The pointer is cleared later in bearer_disable(), but without any
subsequent synchronization, allowing the device to be freed while
still in use by readers.
Fix this by clearing b->media_ptr in tipc_disable_l2_media() before
calling synchronize_net().
This is safe to do now because the call order in bearer_disable()
was reversed in 0d051bf93c06 ("tipc: make bearer packet filtering generic")
to call tipc_node_delete_links() (which needs the pointer) before
disable_media().

tipc_update_nametbl() inserts a binding advertised by a peer node using
the lower and upper service-range bounds taken directly from the wire,
without checking that lower <= upper. The local bind path validates the
ordering (tipc_uaddr_valid()), but the name-distribution path does not.
A binding with lower > upper is inserted at the far end of the
service-range rbtree (keyed on lower) where no lookup or withdrawal can
ever match it (service_range_foreach_match() requires sr->lower <= end).
The publication, its service_range node and the augmented rbtree entry
are then leaked for the lifetime of the namespace, and there is no
per-peer cap equivalent to TIPC_MAX_PUBL on locally created bindings.
Reject inverted ranges in the network path as well. A peer node can
otherwise leak unbounded binding-table memory by sending PUBLICATION
items with lower > upper.

tipc_sk_conn_proto_rcv() subtracts the peer-supplied connection ack count
from the unsigned 16-bit send counter snt_unacked without checking that it
does not exceed the number of messages actually outstanding:
tsk->snt_unacked -= msg_conn_ack(hdr);
msg_conn_ack() is read straight from a received CONN_MANAGER/CONN_ACK
message. If the ack count is larger than snt_unacked, the subtraction
wraps to a near-maximum value, leaving tsk_conn_cong() permanently true
and starving the connection of further transmits.
Validate the ACK count at the start of the CONN_ACK block and drop the
message if it acknowledges more messages than are outstanding. A peer (or,
for a local connection, the connected peer socket) can otherwise wedge a
TIPC connection's send side by sending an oversized connection ack.

TIPCv2 registers mutating generic-netlink operations without admin
permission flags. Generic netlink only checks CAP_NET_ADMIN when an
operation sets GENL_ADMIN_PERM or GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM, so a local
unprivileged process can currently change TIPC state through commands
such as TIPC_NL_NET_SET, TIPC_NL_KEY_SET, TIPC_NL_KEY_FLUSH, and
bearer enable/disable.
The legacy TIPC netlink API already checks netlink_net_capable(...,
CAP_NET_ADMIN) for administrative commands. Give the TIPCv2 mutators
the equivalent generic-netlink gate. Use GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM, which
maps to the same namespace-aware CAP_NET_ADMIN check that
netlink_net_capable() performs, so the behaviour matches the legacy
path and keeps working for CAP_NET_ADMIN holders in a non-initial user
namespace (containers).
A QEMU/KASAN repro run as uid/gid 65534 with zero effective
capabilities previously succeeded in changing the network id and node
identity, setting and flushing key material, and enabling/disabling a
UDP bearer. With this patch applied the same operations fail with

Convert TIPC sockets (msg, packet, stream proto_ops) to use the new
getsockopt_iter callback with sockopt_t.
Key changes:
- Replace (char __user *optval, int __user *optlen) with sockopt_t *sopt
- Use sopt->optlen for buffer length (input) and returned size (output)
- Use copy_to_iter() instead of put_user()/copy_to_user()
The sockopt_t parameter is named sopt to avoid collision with the
existing optname parameter named opt.
Note: Dropped the unnecessary parentheses to make checkpatch happier.
Also dropped two now-stale comments that referred to the old "res"
variable handling.

tipc udp_bearer does not need to access struct socket itself in
the fast path; it only reads struct sock, and struct socket is
only used for tunnel setup and teardown.
Let's store struct sock directly in struct udp_bearer.
Note that cleanup_bearer() calls synchronize_net() after
udp_tunnel_sock_release(), so udp_bearer is not freed until
inflight fast paths finish.
Note also that synchronize_rcu() is added in the error path
of tipc_udp_enable() since udp_bearer will be kfree()d
immediately once we remove synchronize_rcu() in
udp_tunnel_sock_release().
This can be later converted to kfree_rcu().

None of the udp_tunnel users need struct socket in their
fast paths; it is only used for tunnel setup / teardown.
While the UDP tunnel interface accepts struct socket, this
encourages users to store the pointer unnecessarily. This
leads to extra dereferences when accessing struct sock fields
(e.g., sk->sk_user_data instead of sock->sk->sk_user_data).
Furthermore, these dereferences necessitate synchronize_rcu()
in udp_tunnel_sock_release() to protect the fast paths from
sock_orphan() setting sk->sk_socket to NULL.
This overhead can be avoided if users store the struct sock
pointer directly in their private structures.
As a prep, let's change udp_tunnel_sock_release() to take
struct sock instead of struct socket.

tipc_msg_validate() can potentially reallocate the skb it is validating,
freeing the old one. In tipc_buf_append(), it was being called with a
pointer to a local variable which was a copy of the caller's skb
pointer.
If the skb was reallocated and validation subsequently failed, the error
handling path would free the original skb pointer, which had already
been freed, leading to double-free.
Fix this by checking if head now points to a newly allocated reassembled
skb. If it does, reassign *headbuf for later freeing operations.

Use the typed random integer helpers instead of
get_random_bytes() when filling a single integer variable.
The helpers return the value directly, require no pointer
or size argument, and better express intent.
Skipped sites writing into __be16 (netdevsim) and __le64
(ceph) fields where a direct assignment would trigger
sparse endianness warnings.

The GRP_ACK_MSG handler in tipc_group_proto_rcv() currently decrements
bc_ackers on every inbound group ACK, even when the same member has
already acknowledged the current broadcast round.
Because bc_ackers is a u16, a duplicate ACK received after the last
legitimate ACK wraps the counter to 65535. Once wrapped,
tipc_group_bc_cong() keeps reporting congestion and later group
broadcasts on the affected socket stay blocked until the group is
recreated.
Fix this by ignoring duplicate or stale ACKs before touching bc_acked or
bc_ackers. This makes repeated GRP_ACK_MSG handling idempotent and
prevents the underflow path.

As IPv6 is built-in only, the ipv6_stub infrastructure is no longer
necessary.
Convert remaining ipv6_stub users to make direct function calls. The
fallback functions introduced previously will prevent linkage errors
when CONFIG_IPV6 is disabled.

Maintaining a modular IPv6 stack offers image size savings for specific
setups, this benefit is outweighed by the architectural burden it
imposes on the subsystems on implementation and maintenance. Therefore,
drop it.
Change CONFIG_IPV6 from tristate to bool. Remove all Kconfig
dependencies across the tree that explicitly checked for IPV6=m. In
addition, remove MODULE_DESCRIPTION(), MODULE_ALIAS(), MODULE_AUTHOR()
and MODULE_LICENSE().
This is also replacing module_init() by device_initcall(). It is not
possible to use fs_initcall() as IPv4 does because that creates a race
condition on IPv6 addrconf.
Finally, modify the default configs from CONFIG_IPV6=m to CONFIG_IPV6=y
except for m68k as according to the bloat-o-meter the image is
increasing by 330KB~ and that isn't acceptable. Instead, disable IPv6 on
this architecture by default. This is aligned with m68k RAM requirements
and recommendations [1].

A user can set conn_timeout to any value via
setsockopt(TIPC_CONN_TIMEOUT), including values less than 4. When a
SYN is rejected with TIPC_ERR_OVERLOAD and the retry path in
tipc_sk_filter_connect() executes:
delay %= (tsk->conn_timeout / 4);
If conn_timeout is in the range [0, 3], the integer division yields 0,
and the modulo operation triggers a divide-by-zero exception, causing a
kernel oops/panic.
Fix this by clamping conn_timeout to a minimum of 4 at the point of use
in tipc_sk_filter_connect().
