filelayout_get_dense_offset() calculates the stripe width from the
stripe unit and count, where both values are provided by the server.
Their product is stored on 32 bits, and can wrap to zero despite
passing individual checks. For example, a 1 GiB stripe unit (0x40000000)
and four stripes (4) cause the following div_u64() to raise a divide
error during the first read through the dense layout.
Update u32 to u64 and use div64_u64() instead of div_u64().
stripe_unit is a u32 and stripe_count is limited to 4096, so the
product cannot overflow a u64.

The ->cancel_io() layout operation cancels all in-flight I/O for a
layout segment that is being returned. When the return is triggered
by the failure of a single mirror instance, cancelling I/O to the
healthy mirrors is both unnecessary and harmful: requests that were
already transmitted cannot be un-sent, and will complete on the data
servers after the layout has been returned.
Give ->cancel_io() a device ID argument identifying the failed device,
and thread it through pnfs_error_mark_layout_for_return() and
pnfs_mark_matching_lsegs_return(). The flexfiles implementation
compares it against the raw device ID from the layout, so that it can
identify the failed mirror instance even when its device ID node was
never instantiated.
A NULL device ID preserves the existing cancel-everything behavior,
and all callers pass NULL for now, so this patch makes no change in
behavior.

Data-server clients inherit the MDS nconnect setting. A striping
mount multiplies that by every distinct data server: at the
anticipated scale of 1024 and nconnect=16 the client opens 16k
sockets plus their sunrpc slot tables, and striping already spreads
I/O across the data servers, so a high per-DS transport count buys
little for that workload.
Add a dataserver_nconnect module parameter to the flexfiles layout
driver alongside its existing dataserver_timeo and dataserver_retrans
knobs, and thread the value through nfs4_pnfs_ds_connect() to both
the v3 and v4 data-server client setup paths. The default of 0
preserves today's inherit-from-MDS behavior, so the cap is opt-in
and non-regressing. The files layout passes 0, unchanged.

filelayout_pg_test() bounds page coalescing to a single stripe unit
using an offset relative to pls_range.offset, but the data server is
selected by nfs4_fl_calc_j_index() using an offset relative to
pattern_offset. When a segment's pattern_offset and range offset are
not congruent modulo the stripe unit, the coalescing window is shifted
off the DS-selection grid, so a coalesced I/O can straddle a stripe
boundary and send the bytes past it to the wrong data server.
Anchor coalescing on pattern_offset to match nfs4_fl_calc_j_index().
Stripe-congruent segments, including the common whole-file pattern_offset
0 case, are unchanged.

nfs4_pnfs_ds_addr_free() releases all three of an address entry's
allocations, but the four sites that drain a decoded list before it
reaches a data server open-code the loop and free only da_remotestr and
the entry, leaking da_netid. Both layout drivers drain that list when
nfs4_pnfs_ds_add() returned a data server already in the cache, and
again on their error exits.
Lift the drain into nfs4_pnfs_ds_addr_list_free() so an address list has
one owner. A striping mount reaches the cached case on nearly every
GETDEVICEINFO, since many deviceIDs name the same data servers.

nfs4_pnfs_ds_add() keys the per-net data server cache on the multipath
address set alone, and struct nfs4_pnfs_ds records no version. That
suffices for the files layout driver, which always connects with version
4, but flexfiles takes its version tuple from GETDEVICEINFO per device,
and one address can legitimately serve both NFSv3 and NFSv4.
Two deviceids on one address with different ds_versions[0].version
therefore share a single nfs4_pnfs_ds, and whichever mirror connects
first pins ds_clp to its own version. The other one is handed that
client anyway, so it selects rpc_call_ops for a version the connection
does not speak, and the mismatched sequence-slot handling dereferences
NULL.
Add the version to the cache key so the two cannot alias, giving each
version its own nfs4_pnfs_ds and connection while both mirrors stay
usable. Only the major version is compared, since that is what selects
rpc_call_ops and rpc_ops; v4.0 and v4.1 keep sharing a client. The files
layout driver passes the 4 it already hardcodes at connect time.

A flexfiles storage device is tightly coupled to the MDS only when the
decoded ds_versions[0].tightly_coupled flag is set (RFC 8435, sections
2.3 and 4.1). The client currently ignores that flag and treats every
data server as tightly coupled, which breaks I/O to loosely coupled DSes.
Two things force that assumption on an NFSv4.1+ DS:
1) nfs4_set_ds_client() always sets NFS_CS_PNFS on the new client, so
EXCHANGE_ID is sent with EXCHGID4_FLAG_USE_PNFS_DS.
2) nfs4_init_ds_session() then calls is_ds_client() and returns -ENODEV
if the reply does not carry EXCHGID4_FLAG_USE_PNFS_DS.
A loosely coupled DS is just a normal NFS server and does not act in the
pNFS DS role, so the client must not require it to advertise that role.
Thread the ds_versions[0].tightly_coupled flag from the flexfiles driver
down to the DS connect path. When it is false, skip both the NFS_CS_PNFS
flag and the is_ds_client() check. The file layout driver always passes
true because NFSv4.1 file layout data servers use the pNFS DS role.

A layout can still be striped with num_fh = 1 as it is perfectly possible
that both MDS and DSs can handle the same filehandle. Hence check according
to stripe_count > 1, which is the correct check to begin with.

we do, return our best guess with is flseg->num_fh > 1.

On 32-bit architectures, unsigned long is only 32 bits wide, which
causes 64-bit inode numbers to be silently truncated. Several
filesystems (NFS, XFS, BTRFS, etc.) can generate inode numbers that
exceed 32 bits, and this truncation can lead to inode number collisions
and other subtle bugs on 32-bit systems.
Change the type of inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64 to ensure that
inode numbers are always represented as 64-bit values regardless of
architecture. Update all format specifiers treewide from %lu/%lx to
%llu/%llx to match the new type, along with corresponding local variable
types.
This is the bulk treewide conversion. Earlier patches in this series
handled trace events separately to allow trace field reordering for
better struct packing on 32-bit.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Currently, different NFS clients can share the same DS connections, even
when they are in different net namespaces. If a containerized client
creates a DS connection, another container can find and use it. When the
first client exits, the connection will close which can lead to stalls
in other clients.
Add a net namespace pointer to struct nfs4_pnfs_ds, and compare those
value to the caller's netns in _data_server_lookup_locked() when

There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having
a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code
should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older
style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2].
Refactor the code a bit according to the use of a flexible-array member
in struct nfs4_file_layout_dsaddr instead of a one-element array, and
use the struct_size() helper.
This helps with the ongoing efforts to globally enable -Warray-bounds
and get us closer to being able to tighten the FORTIFY_SOURCE routines
on memcpy().
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle and audited and fixed,
manually.

atomic_t variables are currently used to implement reference
counters with the following properties:
- counter is initialized to 1 using atomic_set()
- a resource is freed upon counter reaching zero
- once counter reaches zero, its further
increments aren't allowed
- counter schema uses basic atomic operations
(set, inc, inc_not_zero, dec_and_test, etc.)
Such atomic variables should be converted to a newly provided
refcount_t type and API that prevents accidental counter overflows
and underflows. This is important since overflows and underflows
can lead to use-after-free situation and be exploitable.
The variable nfs_client.cl_count is used as pure reference counter.
Convert it to refcount_t and fix up the operations.

We must set fl->dsaddr once, and once only, even if there are multiple
processes calling filelayout_check_deviceid() for the same layout
segment.

Upon receiving a stateid error such as BAD_STATEID, the client
should retry the operation against the MDS before deciding to
do stateid recovery.
Previously, the code would initiate state recovery and it could
lead to a race in a state manager that could chose an incorrect
recovery method which would lead to the EIO failure for the
application.

Commit fabbbee0eb0f "PNFS fix fallback to MDS if got error on
commit to DS" moved the pnfs_set_lo_fail() to unhandled errors
which was not correct and lead to a kernel oops on umount.
Instead, fix the original EACCESS on commit to DS error by
getting the new layout and re-doing the IO.
