13 dayssfc: fix NULL pointer dereference in efx_tc_flower_replace_foreign()Rand Deeb
efx_tc_flower_replace_foreign() walks the rule's actions with an 'act' cursor. After a redirect action it adds the action set to the rule and sets the cursor to NULL: list_add_tail(&act->list, &rule->acts.list); act = NULL; if (fa->id == FLOW_ACTION_REDIRECT) break; /* end of the line */ The break only leaves the switch statement, so flow_action_for_each() carries on with the next action while act is NULL. A following redirect or mirred action then does "save = *act", and a following tunnel decap action passes act to efx_tc_flower_action_order_ok(), which reads act->decap. Both dereference a NULL pointer. The loop is missing the check that efx_tc_flower_replace() performs at the start of every iteration for the same cursor: reject the rule if an action follows a non-pipe action. The foreign variant was added without it. As a result, a TC flower rule on a tunnel netdevice that redirects to an sfc representor and lists another redirect, mirred or tunnel decap action after the first redirect causes a kernel NULL pointer dereference. It happens in the context of the task adding the filter, with efx->tc->mutex held. Adding such a rule requires CAP_NET_ADMIN. Add the same check at the top of the action loop in efx_tc_flower_replace_foreign(), returning -EINVAL with the same extack message as efx_tc_flower_replace(). The release path already copes with act being NULL. 2026-10-13sfc: fix stale kernel-doc member names in net_driver.hArnav Kapoor
Several kernel-doc comments in net_driver.h describe struct members that have since been renamed or removed, and the EFX_MAX_FRAME_LEN() comment is separated from the macro by the EFX_FRAME_PAD define. kernel-doc reports: Excess struct member 'state' description in 'efx_channel' Excess struct member 'state_lock' description in 'efx_channel' Excess struct member 'indir_table' description in 'efx_rss_context' Excess struct member 'irq_rx_mod_step_us' description in 'efx_nic' Excess struct member 'tx_queue' description in 'efx_nic' Excess struct member 'rx_queue' description in 'efx_nic' Excess struct member 'extra_channel_types' description in 'efx_nic' expecting prototype for EFX_MAX_FRAME_LEN(). Prototype was for EFX_FRAME_PAD() instead along with "not described" warnings for the renamed members. Fix the member names to match the structs, drop the entries for members that no longer exist, and move the EFX_FRAME_PAD define above the EFX_MAX_FRAME_LEN() comment, documenting its @mtu parameter. kernel-doc -Wall also reports three members that are not described because nothing in the driver uses them any more, so remove them rather than document them: - efx_channel::busy_poll_state, left behind when commit e7fe9491261e ("sfc: get rid of custom busy polling code") removed its users. @state and @state_lock above were its old kernel-doc entries. - efx_tx_queue::flush_outstanding, only used by the Falcon/Siena flush code, which commit 36ff6393292d ("sfc: Move Siena specific files") moved into siena/ with its own copy of the struct. - efx_rx_queue::min_overfill, whose kernel-doc entry and only assignment were removed by commit ecc910f520ba ("sfc: Make the dmaq size a run-time setting (rather than compile-time)"). The warnings were found with scripts/kernel-doc -Wall. I don't have sfc hardware; this is compile-tested only. No functional change. 2026-10-07sfc: handle rhashtable walk errors in mport lookupSang-Hoon Choi
rhashtable_walk_next() can return ERR_PTR(-EAGAIN) when the table is resized. efx_mae_lookup_mport() currently dereferences that value as an mport descriptor. Skip error values and continue the walk, as the other rhashtable walkers in this driver already do. 2026-10-07ipv6: Use ipv6_neigh_lookup() and friends.Kuniyuki Iwashima
syzbot reported the splat below in neigh_mark_dead() [0] where tbl->lock was not held while neigh_ifdown() should have acquired one. This only happens when a neigh_table accidentally has a neighbour from a different netns. In ip6_finish_output2(), the net argument is the caller's and does not always match dev_net(dev) fetched from dst. (e.g. xfrm) It is error-prone to require callers to fetch netns and neigh_table and pass it with dev to neigh_lookup(), etc. Let's replace neigh_lookup() and friends with IPv6 helpers. Note that __neigh_lookup() is split into ipv6_neigh_lookup() and ipv6_neigh_create(). netdev_set_tc_queue() (and related helpers/drivers such as netdev_bind_sb_channel_queue(), netdev_reset_tc(), and netdev_unbind_sb_channel()) perform separate 16-bit writes to dev->tc_to_txq[tc].count and dev->tc_to_txq[tc].offset. Furthermore, memset() in netdev_reset_tc() and netdev_unbind_sb_channel() provides no guarantee of performing full 32-bit word stores. Concurrent lockless readers (e.g. skb_tx_hash(), netdev_txq_to_tc(), ixgbe_select_queue(), taprio, mqprio, FPE drivers) can observe torn values where offset and count belong to inconsistent configurations. Redefine struct netdev_tc_txq to embed count and offset inside a union with a u32 combined field, allowing atomic manipulation via READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE(). 2026-07-22net: Use helpers to get/set UDP len tree-wideAlice Mikityanska
Since BIG TCP for UDP tunnels will start using len=0 in the UDP header as an indicator of a GSO packet bigger than 65535 bytes, this commit introduces the following getter and setters to use tree-wide, in order to explicitly mark places where len=0 may be expected, and handle them properly: 1. udp_set_len() sets uh->len to its real value if it's not bigger than 65535, and to 0 otherwise: to be used in GSO context with aggregated packets. 2. udp_set_len_short() is to be used when the length is known to fit 16 bits. It WARNs when the caller tries to assign a bigger value if CONFIG_DEBUG_NET=y. 3. udp_get_len_short() returns len in host byte order: to be used on the RX side to deal with non-aggregated packets, or to access the raw value of the len field. 4. udp_get_len() decodes uh->len set by udp_set_len(). It checks whether the packet is GSO to guard from malformed packets. At the moment udp_set_len() is not used, a following commit will start using it after enabling len>65535 for GSO. Raw uh->len (in network byte order) is still accessed in a few places for checksum calculation purposes, and to decode len=0 in udpv6_rcv for jumbograms. udp_rcv and udpv6_rcv will be addressed by the commit that starts using udp_set_len() to set UDP len=0 for BIG TCP packets in UDP tunnels. efx_mcdi_init() allocates a logging buffer for MCDI firmware communication diagnostics. This buffer can be allocated with kmalloc() as there's nothing special about it to go directly to the page allocator. kmalloc() provides a better API that does not require ugly casts and kfree() does not need to know the size of the freed object. Performance difference between kmalloc() and __get_free_pages() is not measurable as both allocators take an object/page from a per-CPU list for fast path allocations. A PIO buffer is a region of device memory to which the driver can write a packet for TX, with the device handling the transmit doorbell without requiring a DMA for getting the packet data, which helps reducing latency in certain exchanges. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

2025-09-22net: replace use of system_wq with system_percpu_wqMarco Crivellari
Currently if a user enqueue a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistentcy cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. system_unbound_wq should be the default workqueue so as not to enforce locality constraints for random work whenever it's not required. Adding system_dfl_wq to encourage its use when unbound work should be used. The old system_unbound_wq will be kept for a few release cycles. 2025-08-26ipv4: Convert ->flowi4_tos to dscp_t.Guillaume Nault
Convert the ->flowic_tos field of struct flowi_common from __u8 to dscp_t, rename it ->flowic_dscp and propagate these changes to struct flowi and struct flowi4. We've had several bugs in the past where ECN bits could interfere with IPv4 routing, because these bits were not properly cleared when setting ->flowi4_tos. These bugs should be fixed now and the dscp_t type has been introduced to ensure that variables carrying DSCP values don't accidentally have any ECN bits set. Several variables and structure fields have been converted to dscp_t already, but the main IPv4 routing structure, struct flowi4, is still using a __u8. To avoid any future regression, this patch converts it to dscp_t. There are many users to convert at once. Fortunately, around half of ->flowi4_tos users already have a dscp_t value at hand, which they currently convert to __u8 using inet_dscp_to_dsfield(). For all of these users, we just need to drop that conversion. But, although we try to do the __u8 <-> dscp_t conversions at the boundaries of the network or of user space, some places still store TOS/DSCP variables as __u8 in core networking code. Those can hardly be converted either because the data structure is part of UAPI or because the same variable or field is also used for handling ECN in other parts of the code. In all of these cases where we don't have a dscp_t variable at hand, we need to use inet_dsfield_to_dscp() when interacting with ->flowi4_dscp. 2025-08-13PCI/ERR: Remove remnants of .link_reset() callbackLukas Wunner
Back in 2017, commit 2fd260f03b6a ("PCI/AER: Remove unused .link_reset() callback") removed .link_reset() from struct pci_error_handlers, but left a few code comments behind which still mention it. Remove them. The code comments in the SolarFlare Ethernet drivers point out that no .mmio_enabled() callback is needed because the driver's .error_detected() callback always returns PCI_ERS_RESULT_NEED_RESET, which causes pcie_do_recovery() to skip .mmio_enabled(). That's not quite correct because efx_io_error_detected() does return PCI_ERS_RESULT_RECOVERED under certain conditions and then .mmio_enabled() would indeed be called if it were implemented. Remove this misleading portion of the code comment as well. Commit fe09560f8241 ("net: Fix typos") removed duplicated word 'fallback', but this was not a typo and change altered the semantic meaning of the comment. Partially revert, using the phrase 'fallback of the fallback' to make the meaning more clear to future readers so that they won't try to change it again. 2025-07-11sfc: falcon: refactor and document ef4_ethtool_get_rxfh_fieldsEdward Cree
The code had some rather odd control flow inherited from when it was shared with siena and ef10 before this driver was split out. Simplify that for easier reading. Also add a comment explaining why we return the values we do, since some Falcon documents and datasheets confusingly mention the part supporting 4-tuple UDP hashing. (I couldn't find any record of exactly what was "broken" about the original Falcon A hash, I'm just trusting that falcon_init_rx_cfg() had a good reason for not using it.) 2025-06-30net: ethtool: move rxfh_fields callbacks under the rss_lockJakub Kicinski
Netlink code will want to perform the RSS_SET operation atomically under the rss_lock. sfc wants to hold the rss_lock in rxfh_fields_get, which makes that difficult. Lets move the locking up to the core so that for all driver-facing callbacks rss_lock is taken consistently by the core.
