git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm
Pull more MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- "mm: make VMA flag semantics explicit, eliminate VM_SPECIAL" (Lorenzo
Stoakes):
Replace VM_SPECIAL with helpers describing mapping ownership and
behavior. Enforce the mmap flag rules and convert affected drivers,
removing ambiguous tests shared by driver mappings and ordinary
memory.
- "support kselftest on nommu platform" (Hajime Tazaki):
Add opt-in mmap and mremap tests for NOMMU systems. Teach the runner
to avoid its fork-dependent timeout command and document the build
and runtime requirements.
- "mm/collapse: separate a collapse from its callers" (Kiryl
Shutsemau):
Separate huge-page collapse from caller policy. Replace khugepaged
identity checks with explicit permissions, and separate scanning from
collapse with the mmap_lock drop in one place.
- "mm: implement and use vma_has_anon_rmap(), silence KCSAN" (Lorenzo
Stoakes):
Provide a common helper for testing whether a VMA has anonymous
reverse mappings. Document the locking rules, annotate intentional
concurrent reads for KCSAN, and convert the core MM callers.
- "mm/sparse: remove SECTION_MARKED_PRESENT and further cleanups"
(David Hildenbrand):
Remove SECTION_MARKED_PRESENT in favor of the early-section flag.
Simplify sparse memory initialization, section metadata handling and
related PFN validity checks.
- "sh: remove NUMA and SPARSEMEM support" (Mike Rapoport):
Remove SuperH NUMA and SPARSEMEM support. The extra memory banks have
been unusable since the NO_BOOTMEM conversion, leaving only the code
and data overhead.
- "mm: Unify device DAX and HugeTLB vmemmap population paths" (Muchun
Song):
Unify the generic device DAX and HugeTLB vmemmap population paths and
shared tail-page handling. Remove the duplicate DAX machinery while
retaining the powerpc radix implementation.
- "kselftest: mm: fix some failure of split_huge_page_test" (Yeoreum
Yun):
Fix huge-page split tests racing with khugepaged recollapse. Use
pagemap and page flags instead of VMA-boundary assumptions which fail
when glibc has already enabled THP.
- "memcg: move memcgid refcount to objcg to unpin dying memcgs"
(Bingfang Guo):
Let dying memcgs be freed while swapped-out shmem still holds their
IDs. Move ID references to reparentable objcgs, with the necessary
swap accounting and RCU lifetime changes.
- "mm/truncate: fix data loss when truncating straddling large folios"
(Zhang Yi):
Preserve out-of-range data when truncating straddling large folios.
Fix a lookup race and split-failure handling, and handle minimum
folio orders for the forthcoming ext4 iomap buffered I/O path.
- "mm/damon: introduce damos quota goal target metric complement flag"
(SJ Park):
Let DAMOS quota goals use a metric's complement, so utilization can
also express free-memory goals without adding separate metrics. Add
the sysfs interface, documentation and tests.
- "arm64/mm: Standardize printing for pgtable entries" (Anshuman
Khandual):
Use the generic formatter for arm64 page-table entries, ready for
future wider entries. Move the safe-PTE-update check out of the
header to avoid an include cycle.
- "mm: kmsan: fix iounmap metadata teardown" (Dima Koziuk):
Fix KMSAN metadata leaks on iounmap and failed ioremap allocations.
Free backing pages before removing their mappings, and share the
teardown with partial-allocation cleanup.
- "mm/damon/core: preserve quota state when constructing schemes" (Karl
Mehltretter):
Preserve running DAMOS quota state while validating parameter
updates. Even rejected updates could reset accounting and exceed the
quota window; add tests for both accepted and rejected updates.
- "mm/vmalloc: fix vmalloc_dump_obj VA lookup" (Ye Liu):
Fix vmalloc_dump_obj() lookups for last-page addresses and
allocations spanning vmap zones. These allocations were being missed
in diagnostic output.
- "mm: various (urgent?) fixes" (David Hildenbrand):
Fix mmap charge leaks and hugetlb use-after-free, wrong-address
unmapping, stuck locks and endless faults. Also preserve reservations
on failed mremap and handle stale userfaultfd bits.
- "maple_tree: fix maple_range_64 crashes in RCU mode" (Dimitris
Charisis):
Fix pointer and metadata confusion during RCU destruction of
maple_range_64 nodes, avoiding double frees and invalid accesses. Add
a regression test; no in-tree user currently uses this combination.
- "mm: fix hugetlb NR_HUGETLB accounting on folio migration" (Hongfu
Li):
Fix hugetlb migration and preallocation accounting so /proc/vmstat
retains the correct count and memory.numa_stat follows the folio to
its new node.
- "mm/damon: fix a minor bug, clean code, and add a test" (SJ Park):
Fix 32-bit DAMON age overflow which made old regions look young.
Share hugetlb folio acquisition code and add a regression test for
the previously fixed last-region skipping bug.
- "mm/damon/core: cleanup code, reduce stack usage, and add kunit" (SJ
Park):
Reduce kdamond stack usage and remove unused enums. Add deterministic
PSI quota-goal tests which do not depend on the machine's current
memory pressure.
- "mm/damon: fix the temporal goal tuner's size quota conversion"
(Donggeun Yoo):
Bound the temporal tuner's quota conversion to prevent overflow and
zero effective quotas, which could stop schemes making progress. Add
boundary tests.
- "Don't use GFP_DMA when calling dma_alloc_coherent" (Baoquan He):
Remove redundant GFP_DMA flags from coherent DMA allocation calls.
The DMA API already selects the zone from device limits and ignores
the caller's flag.
- "kselftest: mm: fix intermittent failure khugepaged test" (Yeoreum
Yun):
Propagate child-process failures in the khugepaged tests and prevent
background collapse from racing their checks. This removes false
passes and intermittent failures.
- "MAINTAINERS: cover all hugetlb headers under HUGETLB SUBSYSTEM"
(Enze Li):
Cover all hugetlb headers in MAINTAINERS so get_maintainer.pl finds
the right maintainers. Also label the closing hugetlb_cgroup.h
include guard.
Summary of the 65 singletons in this merge:
The singletons include a few worthwhile performance fixes. Avoiding
unnecessary reverse-map tree updates gave a reported 15.9% improvement
in UnixBench's execl test on a 192-core x86 system. A reclaim retry
fix stops defrag_mode from spinning under memory.low protection; a
reported file-creation stress test ran 5.7 times faster, with far less
memory pressure. Narrower hugetlb invalidations also spare KVM guests
needless refaults: the reported Redis-in-VM P99 QPS penalty while
punching holes fell from 7.09% to 1.45%.
Several fixes prevent lost data or corrupted memory. Lazyfree
huge-page races with mremap()/munmap() could lose data or access freed
memory, and MADV_COLD could lose a concurrent write's dirty bit.
Another fix prevents stale migration entries from outliving large
folios. On filesystems with blocks smaller than a page, extending a
file by 4 GiB or more could expose bytes written past the old EOF
through mmap instead of zeroes. That is fixed, along with
use-after-free races in PAGEMAP_SCAN during process exit and in
memory-cgroup accounting on PREEMPT_RT kernels.
Other fixes stop UFFDIO_MOVE spinning forever on pinned large folios,
which could wedge other memory operations, and stop mremap() leaking
commit charges until allocations fail under strict overcommit. A
further fix keeps userfaultfd tracking intact on neighboring mappings.
NUMA binding no longer prevents long-term pins when the chosen node
has only movable memory, fixing QEMU/VFIO startup and io_uring buffer
registration failures. MGLRU also gets a fix for early-boot crashes
with memory cgroups disabled at boot, notably in small crash kernels.

This reverts commit 3bf8c26a085c7b00dbec67a919b93fa8b7ad70e0.
In order to avoid exposing fairly rarely needed drivers to ordinary users,
revert this patch. People needing these drivers will need to enable
CONFIG_EXPERT until we have a better solution for this.

Pull file table updates from Christian Brauner:
"This annotates struct fdtable's fd array with __counted_by_ptr so
KASAN and the fortified functions can bounds check it against max_fds
and adds a KUnit suite for fdtable. A follow-up uses __struct_size()
in the test since sparse doesn't know __builtin_dynamic_object_size().
FD_PREPARE() is simplified. It was built as an ACQUIRE-style guard on
infrastructure that was never needed. The ACQUIRE machinery and
CLASS_INIT() go away, the variable is declared with __cleanup()
directly, struct fd_prepare loses its err field since the fd either
holds the descriptor or the error, and callers get a const pointer to
the guard behind a UNIQUE_ID() name so they can't shadow it. Code
generation is identical"

The line length is written to FRAME_LENGTH_LINES instead of
LINE_LENGTH_PCK. The value is later overwritten by the VBLANK control,
so the sensor runs with its default line length while the driver
reports HBLANK and PIXEL_RATE computed from IMX576_LINE_LENGTH.

hantro_remove() currently asserts the device resets before disabling
runtime PM.
Calling pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() causes an idle device to be
runtime-suspended immediately. At that point the Hantro hardware has
already been torn down, while the generic power-domain genpd code
still performs the power-off sequence. genpd regmap_mmio_read causes panic
subsequently because the reset lines were asserted.
Disable runtime PM before asserting the reset lines so that no runtime-PM
transition can race with hardware teardown.
Apply the same ordering to the probe error paths as well.

vpu_core_probe() enables runtime PM before calling
pm_runtime_resume_and_get().
If pm_runtime_resume_and_get() fails, it has already dropped the runtime PM
usage counter that it acquired before trying to resume the device. Calling
pm_runtime_put_noidle() again on this error path drops the counter one
extra time.
Remove the extra put and keep the existing cleanup that marks the device
suspended before disabling runtime PM.

The MFC watchdog timer (s5p_mfc_watchdog) is self-rearming: every
callback re-arms itself with add_timer() and, on a timeout, schedules
watchdog_work. s5p_mfc_remove() tears this down with timer_delete_sync()
followed by flush_work().
timer_delete_sync() dequeues the timer and waits for a callback that is
already running, but it does not prevent a subsequent re-arm. Because the
watchdog callback re-arms via add_timer(), this is the wrong shutdown
primitive: once the wait returns nothing guarantees a just-queued re-arm
will not fire later, dereferencing dev (clock on/off, deinit_hw,
load_firmware, init_hw) after video_unregister_device(), DMA teardown and
s5p_mfc_final_pm() have run, a potential use-after-free.
Use timer_shutdown_sync(), which puts the timer into a shutdown state so
that any add_timer()/mod_timer() from the callback becomes a no-op and no
later firing is possible. Switch flush_work() to cancel_work_sync() so any
watchdog_work that was already queued before the timer was stopped is
cancelled rather than allowed to run to completion against the torn-down
device.

The runtime suspend and resume callbacks are currently guarded by
CONFIG_PM. Removing the guard directly would leave the callbacks unused
when CONFIG_PM is disabled.
Define the PM operations with DEFINE_RUNTIME_DEV_PM_OPS() and use

callbacks available when needed while avoiding unused-function warnings

If clk_bulk_enable() fails, the runtime PM reference is left held. If

job_ready() only honours the is_header_valid() verdict when
ctx->comp_has_frame is set, and comp_has_frame is only set once
comp_size reaches the full frame size. Since the copy is clamped to
ctx->comp_max_size, a header advertising a larger size leaves comp_size
stuck at comp_max_size, so comp_has_frame stays false and the failed
validation is discarded.
Control then falls into the resolution change branch, which calls
update_capture_data_from_header(). That function re-derives info via
info_from_header(), assigns it to q_dst->info and dereferences it as
q_dst->info->sizeimage_mult, with no NULL check of its own.
is_header_valid() does check that same info_from_header() result --
if (!info) return false which is precisely the false verdict
job_ready() discarded above. info_from_header() returns NULL whenever the
header flags resolve to no supported pixel format.
Drop the comp_has_frame conjunct so an invalid header always bails out.
The resolution change path is unaffected, as it is entered with a valid
header. Oversized frames are then rejected by device_process(), which
already returns -EINVAL when comp_frame_size exceeds comp_max_size.

wait_event_interruptible_timeout() returns a positive value when its
condition becomes true before the timeout. mtk_jpegdec_worker() treats
every nonzero result as a failure, so a normal decoder wakeup finishes
the mem2mem job as though no hardware became available.
Handle interrupted waits and exhausted timeout retries separately, and
retry hardware selection after a successful wakeup. Increment the retry
count only for actual timeouts. The encoder uses
wait_event_interruptible(), whose successful return is zero, so its
existing check is correct; leave that separate no-timeout policy
unchanged.

v4l2_m2m_job_finish() publishes job completion and wakes waiters
before it returns. A concurrent file release can therefore finish
v4l2_m2m_ctx_release() and free the context while the single-core IRQ
handler continues with its tail.
Both handlers only need the device for the matching runtime PM put.
Use the IRQ-owned jpeg pointer instead of dereferencing ctx after
completion has been published. This preserves the get/put pairing and
removes the post-completion context access.

The last enumerator of this driver's firmware IPI id list is a bound
for the VPU mailbox protocol, not a generic host IPI limit. Follow the
existing naming in this header: IPI_VPU_INIT already carries a VPU
prefix, so the terminator should match.
The same convention is used by the SCP IPI enum, which ends with a
prefixed SCP_IPI_MAX rather than a bare IPI_MAX.
Rename IPI_MAX to IPI_VPU_MAX and update the descriptor table bounds
and range checks. No functional change.

rkvdec_probe() obtains a provider-owned SRAM pool with
of_gen_pool_get(), but its error path incorrectly destroys the borrowed
pool with gen_pool_destroy().
of_gen_pool_get() returns a pool managed by the SRAM provider. The pool
is not created or owned by the rkvdec driver and is destroyed by the
provider when its own managed resources are released.
Destroying it when rkvdec_v4l2_init() fails can invalidate the pool
while the provider and other consumers still reference it, and can also
result in the provider attempting to destroy it again later.

mtk_vpu_remove() destroys the watchdog workqueue while the interrupt
handler requested with devm_request_irq() is still registered: the
devres core frees the interrupt only after remove() has returned. If
the VPU watchdog fires in that window, vpu_irq_handler() queues
vpu->wdt.ws on the already destroyed vpu->wdt.wq.
Fix this by calling devm_free_irq() before destroy_workqueue(), which
releases the interrupt and waits for a running handler, so no new work
can be queued while the workqueue is drained and freed.

Unbinding the core or its parent through sysfs can release that memory
