git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm64/linux
Pull arm64 fixes from Catalin Marinas:
"Three fixes that turned up during the merging window: shadow stack not
freed during a failed fork or it is unmapped from parent when a worker
thread exits (same commit covers both); PTE_CONT set on PROT_NONE
entries but subsequently ignored by the unfolding code since
pte_valid() is false (pte_present() is true); an MPAM lock not
released on the error path.
Summary:
- Release the GCS on a failed fork.
copy_thread() can allocate a GCS for CLONE_VM threads but a later
copy_process() failure left the VMA in the parent's mm. Implement
exit_thread() to free it and stop kernel threads and user workers
inheriting the parent's GCS base/size. Add a kselftest for the
clone3() failure case
- Do not set PTE_CONT on invalid PTEs in contpte_set_ptes().
Batched set_ptes() of present-invalid entries (e.g. PROT_NONE)
created contpte groups that the single-PTE helpers did not unfold,
corrupting a neighbouring guard marker via
test_and_clear_young_ptes()
- Release the MPAM mon_sel lock on the mpam_save_mbwu_state() error
paths"

arm64/gcs: release GCS on failed fork
arm64/mm: restrict transparent contpte mappings to valid PTEs
arm_mpam: Release the mon_sel lock on mpam_save_mbwu_state() errors
|

copy_thread() can map a CLONE_VM GCS and still return 0. A later
copy_process() failure calls exit_thread(), but arm64 did not
implement it, so the VMA stayed in the parent's mm. Wire
HAVE_EXIT_THREAD to gcs_free().
Kernel threads created with CLONE_VM (io_uring and vhost workers)
inherit the parent's gcs_base/gcs_size from arch_dup_task_struct()
without allocating their own GCS. When such a thread exits,
exit_mm() -> mm_release() -> deactivate_mm() -> gcs_free() unmaps the
parent's GCS. With the new exit_thread(), a failed copy_process() for
one of these threads would do the same. Clear these fields in
copy_thread().

Pull KVM updates from Paolo Bonzini:
"ARM:
- pKVM state isolation: years after pKVM started being enabled
upstream, we finally get the basics in the form of state isolation.
The vcpu state is now off-limit for the host for protected VMs
- pKVM also grows a hypervisor-private memory allocator, allowing it
to deal with sub-page allocation, much like everywhere else
- pKVM also lands a trace_printk() equivalent, which hopefully will
make debugging a bit easier
- First shot at annotating portions of the KVM/arm64 code to be
extracted and built on s390. The real fun is yet to come
- Allow pre-faulting of stage-2 canonical mappings from userspace,
joining x86 and s390 in implementing this feature
- Add a reverse mapping infrastructure for shadow stage-2,
significantly improving performance when MMU notifiers kick in, and
avoiding full unmap of all shadow tables for this VM
- Next step of GICv5 enablement, adding support for the IRS block,
and providing both SPI and LPI support. This is the first point
where KVM/arm64 can support an SMP GICv5 guest
- As a preliminary to eventually enabling CCA, add a bunch of
infrastructure to KVM/arm64, splitting some of the basic operations
into individual backends (normal VM, normal pKVM VM, protected pKVM
VM). This allows CCA to later slot in without polluting the rest of
KVM with its firmware-driven nonsense
- Make ID registers immutable from the point where a vcpu is able to
run, even if it fails to run. This prevents KVM from sampling
untrusted values
- Restore some type checking to the EL2 object. KVM/arm64 originally
had some strong type checking between the kernel and the EL2
object, but lost it along the way when the private hypercall
interface was (somewhat pointlessly) converted to SMCCC. Type
checking is back, syscall style, and with added sparse goodies
- Expand the FFA support to FFA_NOTIFICATION_*, and add some
sanitisation of the protocol that pKVM relays to the "trusted"
runtime
- Make GICv3 RD assignment more robust to userspace nonsense
- Convert the remaining MMU fault handler backends to
kvm_s2_fault_vma_info and co., fixing a number of bugs in the
process
- Fix the SError/SEA selftests to be both more robust and less
braindead
- Fix a smattering of documentation bugs, some of them as a result of
our AI friends spitting out credible assertions based on
non-existing symbols
- The usual collection of low impact bug fixes (SMCCC, timers, PMU)
Loongarch:
- Add separate vmid support
- Simplify MSI interrupt injection
- Add crash hypercall support
- Allow to set pv_feature until vCPU run
- Enable HW page table walk automatically in selftests
s390:
- rework page allocation for secure guest variable storage
- Selftests and documentation improvements
- Replace get_zeroed_page with kzalloc
- Fix corner cases of floating interrupt injection
- Initial arm64 on s390 support
x86:
- Clean up the handling of vcpu->arch.xen.long_mode to be consistent
and correctly handle 32-bit/64-bit alignment, and various other bug
fixes have accumulated over the months since v1
- Grab KVM's SRCU "lock" in kvm_zap_gfn_range() to fix a recurring
bug where callers fail to do so
- Fix a variety of issues in the pre-fault code that are mostly
benign in the current code base, but will show up in big ways
if/when the pre-faulting logic is used to implementing
prefetch-on-fault for the TDP MMU
- For PREEMPT_RT=y kernels, drop the rmaps' individual bit-spinlock
and just walk the rmaps' with mmu_lock taken. On the write side
(which always uses mmu_lock), the bit-spinlock was assuming that
preemption was disabled, but that is *not* true when rwlocks become
sleepable
- Prepare a memory_fault exit (paired with -EFAULT) when KVM hits an
error PFN, e.g. so that userspace can resolve transient issues
instead of killing the guest. Convert a variety of WARN()+EFAULT
paths into KVM_BUG_ON()+EIO so that KVM can hard commit to filling
memory_fault on -EFAULTs that occur in the page fault path
- Fix a NX hugepage un-accounting bug where KVM would always uncharge
the shadow MMU, even when handling TDP MMU pages
- Mask off the address space ID when checking for illegal usage of
kvm_set_internal_memslot() to prevent false negatives on the sanity
check
- Explicitly zero reserved flags when delivering a SynIC message to
avoid leaking a byte of stack information to the guest
- Rework TDX's handling of the canonical MMU root level to not rely
on userspace to fill CPUID correctly, as doing so lets userspace
trivially trigger a KVM_BUG_ON()
- Reject KVM_SET_NESTED_STATE if userspace "restores" L1 with
EFER.LMA=1 && EFER.LME=0, which confuses KVM into trying to
configure an 64-bit MMU without PAE
- Ignore EFER.LMA (clear it from KVM's cached save state) if
EFER.LME=0 when preparing L2 state, to fix another way to confuse
KVM's MMU (and because real hardware also ignores EFER.LMA)
- Improve KVM's sanity checks for a misconfigured MMU to (hopefully)
detect all of the ways KVM can botch EFER.LMA vs. CR4.PAE
- Remove the "full" out-param from kvm_x86_ops.flush_tlb_gva() as the
param is only used to avoid what effectively amounts to a single
memory write
- Fix a mostly-benign bug where KVM can write through a guest's
read-only mapping due to not checking the error code when
expediting emulated MMIO page faults
- Honor the guest's view of the "EFER.LMSLE must be zero" defeature
so that userspace can provide migration compatibility between Rome
and Milan+
- Pend a KVM_REQ_EVENT request when an exception is morphed into a
nested VM-Exit, otherwise KVM can fail to actually deliver the
nested VM-Exit, e.g. when injecting a page fault
- Add support for PML on SVM
- Add support for virtualizing Bus Lock Detect on SVM, and fix a
number of DR6 bugs and warts along the way
- Fix a variety of warts in KVM's handling of guest TSC, kvmclock,
and timekeeping in general, as a (big) first step towards
addressing several longstanding problems with the kvmclock
implementation. Most notably, fix a precision issue where
get_kvmclock_ns() computed the clock from the *host* TSC without
applying guest TSC scaling, causing systemic drift from the values
the guest computes from its own TSC
- Rip out KVM's shadow timekeeping structures, now that ktime
snapshots are powerful enough to replace it
- Misc fixes and cleanups
x86 (AMD):
- Fix a benign-in-practice bug where KVM unintentionally sets a
non-zero error code when delivering exceptions to SEV-ES+ guests
- Force a new ASID in both VMCBs on pCPU migration to fix a bug where
KVM can run a VMCB with a stale ASID due to the tracking being
per-CPU, not per-VMCB
- Return INVALID_INPUT to the guest instead of exiting to userspace
with -EIO if KVM can't access "guest request" buffer, i.e. try to
keep the guest alive if the guest or userspace goofs
x86 (Intel):
- Enable Notify VM-Exits (now called Instruction Timeout in the SDM)
and Bus Lock VM-Exits for TDX guests when they're enabled by
userspace (KVM forgot to wire up the TDX Module knobs)
- Move all common (between VMX and TDX) APIs/helpers to
common.h/main.c, and change all namespace prefixes from "vmx" to
"vt"
- Fix a thankfully benign bug (due to other areas of KVM being
hardened) where userspace can bypass INIT_MEM_REGION's address wrap
check by providing a nr_pages that will overflow a u64 when
converted to bytes, and fix an also- benign off-by-one bug in the
check (inclusive vs. exclusive)
- Set the vmcs.GUEST_ACTIVITY_STATE back to ACTIVE when userspace
sets KVM's mp_state to anything other than HALTED, e.g. so that a
vCPU doesn't get stuck in HLT if userspace emulates RESET
guest_memfd:
- Take the invalidate lock when unbinding a dying file to fix a race
with kvm_gmem_invalidate_end() that results in KVM leaving the MMU
invalidation count elevated. Not taking the lock in the first place
was pure misguided paranoid
- When binding a memslot, purge the bindings if storing the new
memslot fails, as Xarray's "store range" API can subtly fail
partway through
- Establish memslot<=>guest_memfd bindings *after* the memslot is
ready, as the memslot becomes reachable the instant the binding is
installed
- Don't grab a page refcount when reloading an SNP VMSA and stop
returning a "struct page" from guest_memfd's PFN lookup altogether,
to ensure that KVM doesn't hold any unnecessary refcounts (the
lifetime of the page is ensured by MMU notifiers and similar
hooks). Preventing unnecessary refcounts greatly simplifies
supporting in-place SHARED=>PRIVATE conversions
- Add support for in-place PRIVATE<=>SHARED conversion, i.e. allow a
single guest_memfd instance to be used for both PRIVATE and SHARED
variations of CoCo guests' memory (though not at the same time).
This eliminates the need to double allocate guest memory for TDX
and SNP, and is basically a hard requirement for pKVM, which relies
on being able to preserve memory contents on conversions
- Hack-a-fix a deadlock bug in ->error_remove_folio() by returning
-EBUSY if the filemap invalidate lock is contended. Punt on a
proper fix for the moment, as a proper fix likely involves
reworking truncate_error_folio()
- Add a pile of selftests for in-place conversions
- Misc guest_memfd cleanups
Generic:
- Move some configuration items to preprocessor symbols, to help with
arm-on-s390's need to compile the same code twice with different
values
- Allow KVM implementations to choose alternative device names, also
for s390's support of ARM virtualmachines
- Switch the KVM-VFIO interface and external consumers over to
standard file-based reference counting, eliminating all external
KVM symbol exports
Selftests:
- Rework KVM selftest's handling of memory regions all so that PPC
can force its page table allocations to be naturally aligned
- PPC support
- Fix emulation of VMPTRST and VMPTRLD when eVMCS is in-use to match
real Hyper-V's behavior
- Saturate L2's TSC frequency if stacking L1 and L2 scaling
multipliers exceeds what hardware supports, as attempting to run L2
with an illegal multiplier will either cause VM-Entry to fail (VMX)
or trigger a #GP when writing MSR_AMD64_TSC_RATIO (SVM). The #GP is
thankfully benign in the grand scheme as even "unsafe" WRMSRs have
exception fixup
- Rework KVM selftest's handling of memory regions so that PPC can
force its page table allocations to be naturally aligned
- Clean up selftest's VMX instruction helpers, and drop an absurd
number of completely useless return values, e.g. functions that
unconditionally return %true and then have every caller assert
success
- Add selftests support for Zhaoxin CPUs
- Overhaul the TSC scaling test to add a regression test for the
saturation behavior, and to increase its coverage in general
- Fix selftests usage various NUMA syscalls to account for an
undocumented, but known since 2007, off-by-one kernel bug. Add
helpers to try and avoid re-introducing the same flaws in the
future
- Automatically run xAPIC IPI migration test (between NUMA nodes)
when possible, as the entire point of the test is verify KVM's
handling of page migration of the APIC backing page
- Misc cleanups"

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"This time, the most visible part are the ACPI CPPC updates from
Christian Loehle, including CPPC cpufreq driver changes, even though
updates of cpufreq drivers proper are still the largest topic group.
However, the updates of cpufreq drivers depend on the ACPI CPPC
updates, so they should really be counted together and that is well
over 1/2 of the total commit count.
Interestingly enough, almost all of the updates included here are
fixes or cleanups, with some new feature support in the amd-pstate
cpufreq driver and IPQ9650 support in the qcom-nvmem cpufreq driver.

Pull Kbuild / Kconfig updates from Nathan Chancellor:
"Kbuild:
- Suppress compiler flags in debug info for external module builds
- Use '-fmacro-prefix-map' in more places in the build
- Merge initial set of changes from Lorenzo's speed up series, along
with some fixes found through testing:
- Avoid allocating .modinfo in vmlinux
- Speed up kallsyms by indexing symbols by token and outputting
binary data to disk directly then including in assembly via
.incbin
- Don't sort $(NM) output when unnecessary
- Only emit relocations on the final vmlinx link
- Reimplement mksysmap in C
- Move many cc-option and ld-option calls into the Kconfig stage to
cache their results
- Use pigz for gzip compression when available
- Move gen_init_cpio and gen_initramfs.sh from usr/ to scripts/
- Add a TOML configuration to scripts/container and update
documentation accordingly
- Add a generic, opt-in mechanism for checking that headers can
compile standalone
- Update machine function splitting argument for LLVM 24 rename in
AutoFDO build
- Miscellaneous minor clean ups, fixes, and hardening, mostly
found/fixed via LLMs
Kconfig:
- Turn recursive ranges into an error
- Fix savedefconfig for defaults that were adjusted for being out of
range and revert a previously applied workaround
- Improvements and hardening around integer and hexadecimal values
- Emit a warning when selecting or implying a choice symbol, which
has no effect
- Emit a warning when KCONFIG_PROBABILITY is malformed
- Introduce def_string / def_int / def_hex to mirror the existing
def_bool / def_tristate to succinctly set a value and type at the
same time.
- Add cc-option-str and ld-option-str macros to act like Kbuild's
cc-option and ld-option, returning the string when the option is
supported, allowing many checks to be moved into Kconfig
- Minor usability improvements to Kconfig tests"

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm64/linux
Pull arm64 updates from Catalin Marinas:
"Here are the arm64 updates for 7.4.
The more interesting bits are the removal of big-endian kernel support
(already marked BROKEN for some time), preemptible this_cpu_*()
operations and MPAM support for the firmware-backed (Fb) interface.
CCA (Arm's confidential compute) is slowly trickling in with host RMI
(Realm Management Interface) support and some refactoring, including a
dedicated SMCCC bus to advertise firmware services. There are also the
usual PMU updates for new hardware and a few fixes/cleanups.
Core features:
- Remove big-endian kernel support: CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN has
depended on BROKEN for a while, so drop the remaining code (BE
hypervisor object, BPF JIT, assembly/crypto/library routines,
endianness helper macros, selftests) and force a little-endian
build
- Add preemptible this_cpu_*() operations (read/write, RMW, xchg,
cmpxchg and cmpxchg128) that no longer need to disable preemption
around the per-CPU address generation and access
- Preparation patches for implementing CONFIG_HOTPLUG_PARALLEL on
arm64
Memory management:
- Treat faults taken by EFI runtime firmware as kernel faults
- Clear PTE_WRITE for EFI_MEMORY_RO mappings (with hardware dirty
state management enabled, this is not truly read-only)
- Raise the default ARCH_MMAP_RND_BITS for 48-bit and 52-bit VA
configurations (28/26/24 bits for 4K/16K/64K pages)
- Implement clear_page[s]() using memset()
- Enable BBML2 no-abort (a.k.a. BBML3) for the NVIDIA Rigel CPU
Perf and PMU:
- Support for HiSilicon's ITS PMU
- Add support for some new events: INST_SIMD_ALU_VEC for Apple PMUs
and a cycle counter for the latest version of HiSilicon's MN PMU
hardware
- A bunch of fixes to the CXL PMU driver to address pre-existing
issues from Sashiko
- Fix generation of PERF_RECORD_ITRACE_START records for SPE and ETM
drivers
- Reduce excessive stack consumption in the Marvell DDR PMU driver
- Minor driver updates and cleanups all over
Arm Confidential Compute Architecture (CCA):
- Add an Arm SMCCC bus for firmware services discovered through SMCCC
and move the TRNG and CCA guest (TSM provider) drivers onto it,
removing the dummy CCA platform device and adding a sysfs ABI for
Realm guests
- Move the Realm Service Interface (RSI) code out of arch/arm64/ into
drivers/firmware/arm_rmm/
- Add the host side of the Realm Management Interface (RMI): detect,
configure and activate the RMM, add SRO support and wrappers for
the Realm RMI commands
- Block hibernation (new arch hook in the PM core) and kexec while
the RMM is active. To be revisited in the future with proper
support for deactivation
- Handle Granule Protection Faults (GPFs) taken by the host, caused
by accesses to memory delegated to the RMM. In a future patch, the
exception table lookup will be limited to is_kdump_kernel() cases
MPAM (Memory Partitioning And Monitoring):
- Add support for the MPAM firmware-backed (Fb) interface, allowing
MSC accesses to be mediated by firmware
- Fix a list of theoretical issues with the driver (MSC access error
propagation, MBWU monitor save/restore and locking, resctrl class
handling, error interrupt restore, maximum number of PARTIDs)
- Add the mailing list and a missing file to the MAINTAINERS entry
- Document when to set arm64.nompam
Errata and CPU features:
- Add the NXP i.MX8QM/8QP workaround for the Cortex-A53 cache
coherency issue (ERR050104), using a new ARM64_CPUCAP_SOC_ERRATUM
capability type for SoC-level errata
Miscellaneous:
- Mask debug exceptions (DAIF) around the hardware breakpoint
register manipulations when called from generic kernel code
- Don't zero the SVE state buffer when the SVE state is live
- Return -EPERM instead of -EBUSY from the GCS prctl() locking
failures (matching x86), with the selftest updated. Slight ABI
change but no software deployment yet
- kselftest: fix unsound MTE fault skipping by introducing MTE-safe
memory accessors, avoid copying each signal test binary more than
once
- Update sysreg definitions (fix three enum values and two field
names, mark architecturally dropped fields as RES0) and remove the
TME transaction state check from the BRBE driver
- Fix the description of ARM64_HAS_LPA2 and remove a redundant

We can currently take debug exceptions while manipulating the hardware
breakpoint registers and perf slots when called from generic kernel code.
This can lead to errors and unsound behaviours in some pathological
(and self-inflicted) edge cases[0].
Save and restore the DAIF mask around those manipulations.
This is to avoid a superfluous save/restore when calling
`toggle_bp_registers()` and `hw_breakpoint_control()` from our arch code,
as debug exceptions will already be masked in all cases.
It should also allow some clean ups by batching ISBs when we update
multiple registers, rather than doing one for each register write.
Clarify some comments and specify a few functions which should be called
with debug exceptions masked (even though that is true for most of them).

Calling rcutree_report_cpu_starting() early during boot can lead to
livelocks with the generic CPU hotplug mechanism if the boot CPU blocks
on an RCU grace period while the CPU being onlined is spinning in
cpuhp_ap_sync_alive().
In preparation for enabling the generic CPU hotplug code on arm64, split
up the trace_hardirqs_off() call during secondary CPU bringup so that we
update lockdep early but defer the tracing updates until after the new
CPU has been registered with RCU, which itself is deferred until after
the early CPU compatibility checks, allowing us to drop the explicit
call to rcutree_report_cpu_dead() entirely.

check_local_cpu_capabilities() runs relatively early during the boot of
each secondary CPU and, despite its name, calls update_cpu_capabilities()
to manipulate the global 'system_cpucaps' based on the features detected
by the incoming CPU.
In preparation for parallel bringup of secondary CPUs, move the call
to update_cpu_capabilities() into update_cpu_features(), allowing
check_local_cpu_capabilities() to run concurrently in future, as it now
only performs local verification of the incoming CPU.

Populating the 'cpuinfo_arm64' structure during CPU bringup and
subsequently checking/updating cpufeature structures is slightly
convoluted and differs unnecessarily between the boot CPU and secondary
CPUs.
Rework the code so that cpuinfo_store_cpu() is used to populate the
'cpuinfo_arm64' structure for each CPU, with secondary CPUs then calling
update_cpu_features() to update the global view of the available
features. This allows us to internalise init_cpu_features() and the
'boot_cpu_data' in cpufeature.c and paves the way for parallelising the
ID register probing during bring-up of secondary CPUs.

__cpuinfo_store_cpu() stores ID_AA64PFR0_EL1 and ID_AA64PFR1_EL1 with
their overrides applied and every other register raw. Store the rest
the same way. Everything read with read_cpuid() goes through
read_cpuid_with_overrides(). CTR_EL0 and CNTFRQ_EL0, which are read
otherwise, go through arm64_ftr_reg_override(). It returns a register
with no override unchanged, so an override added to one later takes
effect without a change here.
init_cpu_ftr_reg() then gets values that already carry every valid
override, so its code to apply one is dead. Remove that code.
init_cpu_ftr_reg() still removes an unsafe override, so the same
overrides are rejected and sys_val is unchanged. Only its log changes.
The raw value is gone, so it logs an override equal to that value as
"forced" rather than "already set".
Secondaries are compared with the boot CPU on their stored values, so
CPUs that differ only in a field the command line turned off no longer
taint the kernel.

MPAMIDR_EL1 is the one ID register __cpuinfo_store_cpu() doesn't read.
Its read was deferred to init_cpu_features() and update_cpu_features()
because it traps on firmware that fails to enable MPAM. Only the
sanitised ID_AA64PFR0_EL1 and ID_AA64PFR1_EL1 carried the arm64.nompam
override for such firmware.
Store ID_AA64PFR0_EL1 through read_cpuid_with_overrides() as well. Then
read MPAMIDR_EL1 in __cpuinfo_store_cpu() again, beside GMID_EL1, gated
on this CPU's overridden ID_AA64PFR0_EL1 and ID_AA64PFR1_EL1. cpu_data
is then complete before init_cpu_features() runs.
Other readers of the stored ID_AA64PFR0_EL1 see the override too. With
arm64.no32bit_el0, __cpuinfo_store_cpu() no longer reads the AArch32 ID
registers. Adding allow_mismatched_32bit_el0 no longer enables 32-bit
EL0 either.
detect_ftr_has_mpam(), a system-wide test on the sanitised values,
stays for the ARM64_MPAM capability.

__cpuinfo_store_cpu() stores the ID registers raw. Its gates on reading
a feature's register test those raw values. The exception is
gmid_el1_accessible(), which open-codes MTE's command-line override. It
checks the override with arm64_ftr_safe_value(), since
init_cpu_features() hasn't yet removed an unsafe one. The other gates
still read a feature's register when the command line disabled it. That's
the read that trapped on GMID_EL1.
Add read_cpuid_with_overrides(), which applies every valid override to
any register in arm64_ftr_regs[]. An override is valid when
arm64_ftr_safe_value() returns it unchanged. validate_ftr_regs() has
checked the table by the first store, so the lookup is safe there.
arm64_apply_feature_override() can't do this: it takes one field and no
descriptor to check the override against.
Store ID_AA64PFR1_EL1 through it, and replace gmid_el1_accessible()
with a test on the stored value at its three callers, as for SME.
Other readers of the stored value see the override too. With
arm64.nosme, __cpuinfo_store_cpu() no longer reads SMIDR_EL1. CPUs that
differ only in an ID_AA64PFR1_EL1 field the command line turned off no
longer taint the kernel. init_cpu_ftr_reg() logs a valid override as
"already set" rather than "forced".

sort_ftr_regs() sorts nothing. It checks that arm64_ftr_regs[] is in
sys_id order, which the binary search in get_arm64_ftr_reg() relies on,
and that no register's fields overlap. It runs at the top of
init_cpu_features(), after the boot CPU's __cpuinfo_store_cpu(). A
subsequent patch makes __cpuinfo_store_cpu() look registers up in the
table.

There is no need to try to second-guess the compiler when
clearing memory. Just call memset() like everyone else.
Since memset() already has an architecture-local MOPS
optimization, we do not need to do anything else to preserve

While at it, implement the shorthand for directly calling

set_permissions() sets PTE_RDONLY for regions that the Memory Attributes
Table describes as read-only, but leaves PTE_WRITE set. PTE_WRITE is
the DBM bit, so when hardware dirty state management is enabled
(TCR_EL1.HD), such a descriptor is writable-clean rather than read-only,
and a write by the firmware will be permitted by the hardware (which
marks the entry dirty) instead of faulting.

According to NXP errata document IMX8_1N94W[1], the i.MX8QuadMax and
i.MX8QuadPlus SoCs suffer from a cache coherency issue (ERR050104). The
upper bits, above bit 35, of the ARADDR and ACADDR buses within the Arm
A53 subsystem have been incorrectly connected. This causes some TLBI and
IC maintenance operations exchanged between the A53 and A72 core
clusters to be corrupted.
The workaround requires:
- Downgrading targeted TLBI operations to broadcast-all variants.
Instead of patching the low-level __TLBI_1 macro (which causes
excessive over-invalidation), redirect high-level TLB flush
functions (flush_tlb_mm, __do_flush_tlb_range,
flush_tlb_kernel_range, __flush_tlb_kernel_pgtable) to use VMALLE1IS
via alternatives.
- Upgrading IC IVAU to IC IALLUIS for both kernel (via ALTERNATIVE in
invalidate_icache_by_line) and EL0 userspace (via trap-and-upgrade
in user_cache_maint_handler with SCTLR_EL1.UCI=0).
- Disabling KVM since correct TLB maintenance cannot be guaranteed
for guests.
- No need to touch SMMU Broadcast TLB Maintenance (BTM) since the
arm-smmu driver does not use it.
SoC detection uses devicetree compatible string "fsl,imx8qm" or
"fsl,imx8qp" since the boot CPU MIDR_EL1 (0x410fd034) and AIDR_EL1 (0)
are not unique to these SoCs.
[1] https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/errata/IMX8_1N94W.pdf
[ Reworked per review feedback from Will Deacon and Mark Rutland:
- Move TLBI workaround from __TLBI_1 macro to high-level flush
functions to avoid excessive over-invalidation
- Add kernel IC IVAU upgrade via ALTERNATIVE in assembler.h
- Add cpucap_is_possible() entry for compile-time elimination]

Add a new capability type for SoC-level (not CPU-level) errata. Unlike
CPU errata which need to be checked on every CPU, SoC errata are probed
once on the boot CPU and the result applies to all CPUs. Secondary
and late CPUs skip the matches() check but still get cpu_enable() called.
This avoids redundant probing on secondary and late CPUs for errata
that are SoC-wide properties, not per-CPU.
Convert ARM64_ERRATUM_4311569 from ARM64_CPUCAP_SYSTEM_FEATURE to
ARM64_CPUCAP_SOC_ERRATUM since it is a SoC-level property already
determined at boot. This changes its scope from SCOPE_SYSTEM to
SCOPE_BOOT_CPU, so the workaround is now enabled before the secondary
CPUs are brought up. This is safe as the erratum is enabled via an
early_param, parsed before the boot CPU capabilities are detected.

On IRQ exit, __irq_exit_rcu() drops HARDIRQ_OFFSET before calling
invoke_softirq(). The arm64 do_softirq_own_stack() wrapper and its
____do_softirq() trampoline run before __do_softirq() establishes
softirq context, so KCOV records their PCs in the interrupted task's
coverage buffer. They also run outside softirq accounting when
local_bh_enable() reaches do_softirq().
The IRQ-exit coverage makes the KCOV boot selftest fail even after
the scheduler and timer coverage leaks are suppressed. The generic
softirq.o is already excluded from KCOV, but that exclusion does not
cover the separately compiled arm64 wrappers.
Exclude irq.o from KCOV instrumentation, as is already done for the
arm64 entry code. This covers both wrappers even with compilers that
lack the no_sanitize_coverage attribute. The softirq action functions
remain instrumented for explicit remote coverage.

Create an event to allow developers to log pretty much anything into the
hypervisor tracing buffer with trace_hyp_printk(), just like the kernel
tracing has the function trace_printk().
#include <asm/kvm_hypevents.h>
trace_hyp_printk("foobar");
trace_hyp_printk("foo=%d", foo);
trace_hyp_printk("foo=%d bar=0x%016llx", foo, bar);
To ensure writing into the tracing buffer is fast, store the string
format into a kernel-accessible ELF section. The hypervisor only has to
write into the event the string ID, which is the delta between the
hyp_string_fmt and the start of the ELF section.
The string format is parsed by the kernel. It is therefore not possible
to dereference hypervisor pointers and the format specifier %s is not
supported. Also the %p specifiers will fail to find the hypervisor
function.
To not waste tracing buffer data, use a dynamic size. Each argument is 8
bytes.

Currently do_sve_acc() always zeroes current->thread.sve_state. This is
not necessary in the common case, and avoiding the zeroing has a
measurable impact on some benchmarks.
In the common case where the task is not preempted and its state is not
altered by a tracer, do_sve_acc() will observe that TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE
is clear. In such cases, only the live register values matter, and the
in-memory copy is stale regardless of whether it is saved in
FP_STATE_FPSIMD format or FP_STATE_SVE format.
It is worth skipping the zeroing because the SVE state is discarded on
syscall entry, so userspace that mixes SVE and syscalls re-traps
constantly. A fleet profile of arm64 hosts running services whose
memset() is SVE shows the memset under do_sve_acc() accounting for 29%
of the trap handling cost.
Measured on a 72-core Neoverse V2 (SVE VL 128, sve_state_size 546,

RMM can be deactivated only after all delegated granules have been
reclaimed. If a new kernel is entered while any granules remain in the
Realm PAS, accesses to that memory can raise a Granule Protection Fault
and be fatal to the new kernel.
Crash kexec/kdump needs separate handling. It can be supported only once
the crash kernel can tolerate delegated memory inherited from the primary
kernel. i.e., be able to read the pages safely and fixup the GPF. Until
then disable the kexec completely.
Hibernate has a similar problem. The image cannot be safely saved for
delegated pages, as the RMM doesn't support exporting the pages.
Also, on the resume path, if the RMM is active, there could be delegated
granules and overwriting them is fatal.

implementation, such as PowerPC and RISC-V, fail when checking the vDSO:
arch/powerpc/kernel/vdso/vdso32.so.dbg: dynamic relocations are not supported
arch/riscv/kernel/vdso/vdso.so.dbg: dynamic relocations are not supported
memset() is now generated when zeroing params->reserved for some builds
because LLVM has an optimization (now run in more instances) that can
recognize at compile time when it is assigning a static value to a
contiguous area of memory and turn that into a call to memset(). Both
clang and GCC assume memset() is always available [2].
Clang has an internal fiddly hook, -max-store-memset, which we can set
to a high number, to disable generating out of line memset calls [3].
Similarly, GCC has -finline-stringops=memset to do the same [4], should
this issue ever hit future version of GCC. While these options wouldn't
make sense for normal kernel code, it is fine for the extremely limited
and intentionally compact vDSO code.

When system_supports_sme() is true but system_supports_sve() is false,
restoring a specifically crafted SVE signal context can result in the
task erroneously having non-streaming SVE state. Subsequent attempts to
manipulate the task's FPSIMD/SVE/SME state can result in a variety of
problems, including fatal EL1 UNDEFs.
In such configurations, the kernel always creates an SVE signal context
when delivering a signal, and this can only be in one of two states:
(1) SVE_SIG_FLAG_SM is set, and an SVE payload is present containing
streaming mode SVE state. The recorded VL is the task's live
streaming VL.
(2) SVE_SIG_FLAG_SM is clear, and an SVE payload is not present. The
FPSIMD context contains the non-streaming mode FPSIMD state. The
recorded VL is 0.
Currently restore_sve_fpsimd_context() correctly rejects cases where
SVE_SIG_FLAG_SM is set and an SVE payload is not present, but fails to
reject cases where SVE_SIG_FLAG_SM is clear and an SVE payload is
present. Consequently, restore_sve_fpsimd_context() can place the task
in a state where it has non-streaming SVE state even when this is not
supported by HW.
For example, this can cause a later EL1 UNDEF when the kernel attempts to
restore the task's ZCR_EL1 value:

Rework restore_sve_fpsimd_context() to reject cases where
SVE_SIG_FLAG_SM is clear and an SVE payload is not present. As
parse_user_sigframe() rejects SVE signal frames when neither SVE nor SME
are supported, it isn't necessary for restore_sve_fpsimd_context() to
handle the case where neither are supported.

ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1_TGRAN_2_SUPPORTED_LPA2 is always defined as 0x3. Hence any
defined() test on the macro always going to be evaluated as true. Hence the
very test itself is redundant and can be dropped off safely.
Although similar defined(ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1_TGRAN_LPA2) test is retained back
as the macro does depend on the configured granule size.

Cortex-A725 erratum 3821522 affects the CNT_CYCLES event, which can
incur a significant increment error when a CPU enters and subsequently
exits WFE or WFI, and may no longer track the system counter
frequency.
The AMEVCNTR01_EL0 counter is used as the AMU constant counter for
frequency invariance and CPPC FFH feedback counters. Wire the affected
Cortex-A725 range into the shared broken AMU constant-counter capability
so the affected counter is treated as unavailable by returning zero in
the AMU counter paths. This prevents the broken counter from being used
as a reference source.
The erratum can also affect PMUv3 users of the CNT_CYCLES event,
but this workaround intentionally does not change PMU event handling.
Hiding or rejecting the PMU event from the erratum code would change
the perf-visible PMU event interface, including raw event selection,
and would need a separate PMU-specific approach rather than being
folded into the AMU reference-counter workaround.

Move the workaround from the erratum 2457168-specific cpucap to a generic
broken AMU constant-counter one. This keeps the existing Cortex-A510
handling unchanged while allowing other errata with similar AMU constant
counter issue to share the capability bit and call sites.
