When I tried to install and run bonding selftests via:
make INSTALL_PATH=/tmp/kself TARGETS=drivers/net/bonding \
-C tools/testing/selftests install
Some tests fail because net/lib/sh/defer.sh is missing:
/tmp/kself/net/forwarding/../lib.sh: line 5: /tmp/kself/net/lib/sh/defer.sh: No such file or directory
One option is to add defer.sh directly to TEST_INCLUDES. Alternatively,
follow the approach from commit f72aa1b27628 ("selftests: net: include
lib/sh/*.sh with lib.sh"), which pulls in all .sh files to accommodate
future changes to the library directory.
This patch adds a wildcard to include all shell files for drivers/net
tests that consume net lib.sh. TEST_INCLUDES is also sorted to avoid
ordering‑related problems for future modifications. The team driver is
not affected by this bug, but we use the wildcard for it as well, rather
than listing only defer.sh.

The userdata payload is rebuilt and republished on every configfs write,
including while the target is enabled and messages are being sent.
Add netcons_userdata.sh that runs random tests with userdata.

In these netconsole tests, bash is used with errexit (set -e). It means
that if the busywait timeout, the tests finish without printing an error
message.
It is fine to ignore these errors, because the following validate_xxx
helpers will check the content of the output file, and exit with an
appropriated error message, e.g. FAIL: File was not generated.

The "mac" bind mode reactivation downs the interface, restores the saved
MAC and renames it to trigger a target resume. This assumes the recreated
interface comes back with a different MAC, which is true under
MACAddressPolicy=none (as on the Netdev CI) but not when MACs are
persistent. In the persistent case netconsole resumes the target on its
own, and the down/restore/rename flow instead drops it and fails the test.
Guard the block on the MAC having actually changed so the test passes
under both policies.

The script uses set -euo pipefail, so when busywait times out waiting
for the netconsole message to arrive, it returns 1 and the script exits
immediately without printing any error message. As reported by Jakub,
this makes failures hard to diagnose since the test reports exit=1 with
no explanation.
Handle the busywait failure explicitly so that a FAIL message is printed
before exiting. This is how it looks like now:
Running with target mode: basic (ipv6)
[ 167.452561] netconsole selftest: netcons_QdMay
FAIL: Timed out waiting (20000 ms) for netconsole message in /tmp/netcons_QdMay
The remaining silent failures under set -e can only happen during the
setup phase (netdevsim creation, interface configuration, configfs
writes). So, it is not expected to have any silent failure once the test
starts.
Note that this issue might be less frequent now, since commit
a68a9bd086c28 ("selftests: netconsole: Increase port listening timeout")
increased the timeout that _might_ have been the root cause of these
random failures in NIPA.

This patch moves netconsole selftests from drivers/net to its own target
in drivers/net/netconsole.
This change helps saving some resources from CI since tests in
drivers/net automatically run against real hardware which are not used
by netconsole tests as they rely solely on netdevsim.
lib_netcons.sh is kept under drivers/net/lib since it is also used by
bonding selftests. Finally, drivers/net config remains unchanged as
netpoll_basic.py requires netconsole (and does leverage real HW testing).
