An HDA virtual-master hook must have its private argument initialized
before a control callback can invoke it. snd_hda_add_vmaster_hook()
installs the trampoline through snd_ctl_add_vmaster_hook(), which stores
master->hook before master->hook_private_data without serialization.
When a codec with a vmaster mute hook binds to an already registered
card, snd_hda_gen_build_controls() publishes and initializes the Master
Playback Switch before installing the hook. A native write that changes
the switch can then run in the following order:
1. The codec bind path publishes and initializes the master control in
__snd_hda_add_vmaster(), then calls snd_hda_add_vmaster_hook().
2. The hook setter stores master->hook, but has not yet stored its
private argument.
3. SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_ELEM_WRITE takes controls_rwsem and calls
master_put() while the setter remains between those stores.
4. master_put() sees the callback and invokes vmaster_hook() with a
NULL argument. The trampoline dereferences it before the setter
can complete publication.
The write lock held by snd_ctl_elem_write() does not exclude the hook
setter, so this can cause a NULL pointer dereference. Take the same
controls_rwsem for writing inside snd_ctl_add_vmaster_hook() so the
callback and its argument are installed together with respect to
native control callbacks. Pass the card into the helper and update
the HDA caller, keeping the lock in the ALSA core. Release it when
registration returns, before the caller synchronizes the hook.

In the recent commit f3607b6952ca ("ALSA: hda: Stop unsol events and
jack polling before codec unbind"), we applied the workaround to stop
pending works at the hda codec driver removal, but it was applied
after the bypass for hda-ext ops hdev_detach. Basically the same
issue is seen for hda-ext stuff, so it's safer to apply the workaround
at the beginning of hda_codec_driver_remove().
Along with it, the clearance of unsol_disabled flag is moved to the
beginning of hda_codec_driver_probe(), too; otherwise hda-ext
hdev_attach() might miss the unsol event handling when the code gets
re-bound.

Currently the places setting or clearing codec->registered flag have
no locking, while its reference in the unsol handling work
snd_hdac_bus_process_unsol_events() takes the bus->reg_lock lock.
Let's add the same bus->reg_lock at the places where codec->registered
is set and cleared for avoiding the races.

When the HD-audio controller driver probe fails, it still leaves the
unsolicited event handling and jackpoll work active, hence if they are
pending, they might fire up later after the resource gets released,
which may lead to a UAF. A similar problem may be seen at shutdown,
too.
Add the recently added helper to disable unsol events and the cancel
of jackpoll_work at the appropriate places. We need the workaround in
the error path before driver->ops->remove, too. As unsol events and
jack polling may have been already enabled during the probe callback,
the driver->ops->remove call is done (more) conditionally now.

The registered field of hdac_device is a bitfield sharing the same
word with other bitfields like lazy_cache, and those are updated in a
non-atomic read-modify-write manner without any lock. Meanwhile, the
registered flag is read from the unsolicited event worker
concurrently, so the concurrent updates of the neighboring bitfields
may race with it.
Convert it to a plain bool for avoiding such a subtle race. Also
replace the assignments of 0/1 with false/true accordingly.

At unbinding a codec driver, hda_codec_driver_remove() calls the
codec's remove callback that releases the driver resources, followed
by snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind(). Meanwhile, the unsolicited
events are processed asynchronously in bus->unsol_work, and
snd_hdac_bus_process_unsol_events() checks only codec->registered flag
before calling the driver's unsol_event callback without the lock.
Since codec->registered is cleared only in
snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind(), and there is no flush of the unsol
work at unbinding, the unsol event handler may run concurrently during
the running remove callback, which may lead to a UAF. The same
problem applies to the jack polling work, which is canceled only after
the remove callback.
For addressing those races, introduce a new flag unsol_disabled to
hdac_device, to be checked it in the unsol event worker, while a new
helper snd_hdac_device_disable_unsol() sets this flag and flushes the
pending unsol work. The helper is called at hda_codec_driver_remove()
together with the cancel of jackpoll_work to assure that no
asynchronous jack handling can run. The flag is cleared again at
probing the codec driver, while the events are still blocked by the
registered flag until the codec gets registered.

So far we've used snd_array infrastructure for managing the
hda_jack_tbl elements, but it turned out that this may lead to a UAF
when a different order of destruction procedure is applied; namely,
each hda_jack_tbl object creates a snd_jack object and sets the
private_data pointing to the hda_jack_tbl, and private_free to release
it. It looks harmless, but since snd_array may reallocate the whole
table at growing, the formerly referred jack pointer may become stale.
Fortunately, currently there is no call pattern that triggers this
issue, so it's only hypothetical, but we should address it in anyway.
There are several ways to address this, and at this time, we rather
redesign the hda_jack_tbl allocations: instead of snd_array(), do a
normal kmalloc() + linked list. There will be more kmalloc calls than
the original code, but as the number of jacks are usually at most
handful, it must not be a problem. This change allows us the
persistent jack pointer, so no stale pointer access can happen any
longer.
This also fixes another reported issue about the stale jack pointer
reference in snd_hda_jack_tbl_new(), too.

snd_hda_jack_set_gating_jack() assigns gated and gating variables from
the succeeding calls of snd_hda_jack_tbl_get(). This works normally,
but the second call might kick off the reallocation of the jack table,
hence the first pointer might become invalid, which leads to a UAF.
For avoiding that pitfall, this patch changes the code to two phases:
the first to only create two entries, and the second phase to get the
pointers from the table, so that no relocation can happen any longer.

The put() callback of "IEC958 Playback Default" returns whether the
converted register value moved. The convert_from_spdif_status() helper
reads part of the first two channel status bytes and none of the last
two, while the get() callback returns all four. So a write that lands
only in the bits it does not read changes what userspace reads back and
reports no change. Of the 31 bits above the mode bit, 20 are such bits
in consumer mode and 29 in professional mode. The core notifies only on
a positive return.
Toggling status[2] bit 0 on an HDA HDMI codec moves the read-back from
04 00 00 00 to 04 00 01 00 with no event. Toggling the non-audio bit
in status[0] gives one.
Compare the stored status as well, the way the ac97 code does. The
write to the codec stays gated on the converted value.

print_conn_list() compares the raw hardware connection list with the
connection list cached by the HDA driver. When they differ, it prints an
additional "In-driver Connection" line so that /proc/asound/card*/codec#*
shows the topology actually used by the driver.
The comparison currently passes conn_len directly to memcmp(). However,
conn_len is a number of connection-list entries, while memcmp() expects a
size in bytes. Both list and conn are arrays of hda_nid_t, which is u16,
so only half of the connection data is compared.
For example, for two-entry lists such as:
hardware: 0x0c 0x0d
cached: 0x0c 0x0e
conn_len is 2, and the current comparison checks only the first hda_nid_t.
The lists are therefore incorrectly treated as identical even though the
second connection differs.
This can happen legitimately when codec fixups replace a cached connection
list with snd_hda_override_conn_list(). The codec routing used by the
driver is not affected, but the proc output can hide the overridden
driver-visible routing and provide misleading topology information during
codec debugging.
Convert the entry count to a byte size so that memcmp() covers the
complete connection list.

When userspace writes 1 to /sys/bus/pci/devices/XX/remove to remove
HDA PCI device, the HDA hardware control path is shut down and devres
unmaps the BAR virtual address bus->remap_addr automatically during

If a delayed HDA verb command arrives after the MMIO region is

a page fault splat.

Currently if an HDMI cable is connected while the system is suspended,
the HDMI audio jack status stays off after resume.
This is due to the jack state not being synced by the HDA HDMI codec
device's runtime resume, as that never happens if the device was runtime
suspended before the system suspended, or by the acomp notification
triggered from the DRM side if that happens before the HDA HDMI codec
device has resumed.
To fix this, if snd_hda_hdmi_acomp_pin_eld_notify() gets called before
the HDA HDMI codec device has resumed, mark it to be forcefully runtime
resumed at the next PM complete time.
Do this using a separate acomp_requested_resume flag that can be
temporarily set without overwriting forced_resume for drivers that
always want to force resume.

Pull timekeeping updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Updates for NTP/timekeeping and PTP:
- Expand timekeeping snapshot mechanisms
The various snapshot functions are mostly used for PTP to collect
"atomic" snapshots of various involved clocks.
They lack support for the recently introduced AUX clocks and do not
provide the underlying counter value (e.g. TSC) to user space.
Exposing the counter value snapshot allows for better control and
steering.
Convert the hard wired ktime_get_snapshot() to take a clock ID,
which allows the caller to select the clock ID to be captured along
with CLOCK_MONONOTONIC_RAW. Additionally capture the underlying
hardware counter value and the clock source ID of the counter.
Expand the hardware based snapshot capture where devices provide a
mechanism to snapshot the hardware PTP clock and the system counter
(usually via PCI/PTM) to support AUX clocks and also provide the
captured counter value back to the caller and not only the clock
timestamps derived from it.
- Add a new optional read_snapshot() callback to clocksources
That is required to capture atomic snapshots from clocksources
which are derived from TSC with a scaling mechanism (e.g. Hyper-V,
KVMclock).
The value pair is handed back in the snapshot structure to the
callers, so they can do the necessary correlations in a more
precise way.
This touches usage sites of the affected functions and data structure
all over the tree, but stays fully backwards compatible for the
existing user space exposed interfaces. New PTP IOCTLs will provide
access to the extended functionality in later kernel versions"

The normal capture for system/device cross timestamps is CLOCK_REALTIME,
but that's meaningless for AUX clocks.
Add a clock_id field to struct system_device_crosststamp and initialize it
with CLOCK_REALTIME at the two places which prepare for cross
timestamps.
After the related code has been cleaned up, the core code will honor the
clock_id field when calculating the system time from the system counter
snapshot.

The pending irq work might be still floating while the assigned stream
has been already closed, which may lead to UAF, especially when
another async work for fasync is involved.
For addressing this, extend the hda_controller_ops for allowing the
extra cleanup procedure that is specific to the controller driver, and
make sure to cancel and sync the pending irq work at each PCM close
before releasing the resources.

Currently, the delayed IRQ handling for PCM streams is managed in a
single work embedded in hda_intel, but this is basically a per-stream
thing. Due to the single work, we can't cancel the work properly at
closing each stream, for example.
For making the IRQ pending work to be stream-based, this patch changes
the following:
- An extended version of azx_dev (i.e. the hd-audio stream object) is
defined for snd-hda-intel
- The irq_pending flag and irq_pending_work are moved to
hda_intel_stream, so that they can be hda-intel stream specific
- The stream creation and assignment are refactored so that
snd-hda-intel can handle individually;
the snd-hda-intel specific workaround for stream tags is also moved
to snd-hda-intel itself instead of the common code
- The irq pending work is canceled properly at free / shutdown
While we're at it, changed the bit field flag to bool, as the bit
field doesn't help much in our case.

Heiko reported that BIOS on some recent machines doesn't set up PCI
SSID properly but leave with zero (e.g. on HP Dragonfly Folio 13.5
inch G3 with SSID 103c:8a05/8a06), which confuses the quirk table
matching and results in the non-functional state.
Fix it by skipping the PCI SSID matching when either vendor or device
ID is zero and falling back to the codec SSID that is supposed to be
more stable for those cases.

snd_hda_ctl_add() dereferences kctl->id.subdevice without checking
whether kctl is NULL. Multiple callers in sound/hda/codecs/ca0132.c
pass the return value of snd_ctl_new1() directly to snd_hda_ctl_add()
without a NULL check:
return snd_hda_ctl_add(codec, nid, snd_ctl_new1(&knew, codec));
snd_ctl_new1() returns NULL when the underlying snd_ctl_new() fails
on memory allocation (kzalloc_flex),which can occur under memory
pressure or via fault injection.
Add a NULL check at the entry of snd_hda_ctl_add(), matching the
pattern already used by snd_ctl_add_replace() at the same call
path (sound/core/control.c:515). Return -EINVAL to let callers
handle the error gracefully.

The hda-intel driver uses request_firmware_nowait() for loading its
patch, and tries to continue the probe directly from the fw loader
callback. This works in principle, but it has a few drawbacks:
- The driver may be released before the firmware callback completes
- Having two ways of async probe makes the code flow unnecessarily
complex
The former issue is more severe, as it may potentially lead to a UAF,
and there is no explicit way to cancel the pending firmware worker
for now.
This patch changes the firmware loading to be performed rather in the
common probe work without *_nowait(). Then the pending work can be
easily canceled, and the code becomes more straightforward.
A nice bonus is that, by moving into the probe work, the firmware
doesn't need any longer to be cached, hence we can get rid of struct
azx.fw field, and release the firmware immediately after parsing it,
too.

is needed after the write, e.g. for the power state toggle or such

The "IEC958 Default PCM Playback Switch" control is backed directly by
mout->share_spdif. The share-switch callbacks currently access that state
without serialization, and spdif_share_sw_put() always returns 0, so
normal userspace writes never emit the standard ALSA control value
notification.
snd_hda_multi_out_analog_open() may also clear mout->share_spdif when the
analog PCM capabilities and the SPDIF capabilities no longer intersect.
That fallback is still needed to avoid creating an impossible hw
constraint set, but it changes the mixer backing value without notifying
subscribers.
Protect the share-switch callbacks with spdif_mutex like the other SPDIF
control handlers, return the actual change value from spdif_share_sw_put(),
and notify the cached control when the open path forcibly disables
shared SPDIF mode after dropping spdif_mutex.
This keeps the existing auto-disable behavior while making switch state
changes visible to userspace.

print_gpio() prints the GPIO capability header and the bidirectional
GPIO state, but it never reports the separate GPI and GPO pins even
though AC_PAR_GPIO_CAP exposes their counts.
The HD-audio specification defines dedicated GPI and GPO verbs
alongside the GPIO ones, so codecs with input-only or output-only
general-purpose pins currently lose that state from
/proc/asound/card*/codec#* altogether.
Add the missing read verb definitions and extend print_gpio() to dump
the GPI and GPO pins, too, while leaving the existing IO[] output
unchanged.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

We used to have a variable declaration with __free() initialized with
NULL. This was to keep the old coding style rule, but recently it's
relaxed and rather recommends to follow the new rule to declare in
place of use for __free() -- which avoids potential deadlocks or UAFs
with nested cleanups.
Although the current code has no bug, per se, let's follow the new
standard and move the declaration to the place of assignment (or
directly assign the allocated result) instead of NULL initializations.
