ocfs2_validate_dx_leaf() and ocfs2_validate_dx_root() check the ECC and
signature of an indexed-directory block before it reaches higher-level
callers, but neither validator bounds the ocfs2_dx_entry_list counts
against the capacity of the block that holds them.
ocfs2_dx_dir_search() then walks
for (i = 0; i < le16_to_cpu(entry_list->de_num_used); i++)
dx_entry = &entry_list->de_entries[i];
over de_num_used entries with no bounds check. entry_list is either
dx_leaf->dl_list (from ocfs2_read_dx_leaf) or, for an inline root,
dx_root->dr_entries. A crafted on-disk image can set de_num_used (and
de_count, which is the __counted_by_le() bound of de_entries) to 0xffff
and make the walk read far past the end of the 4KB metadata block, giving
a slab out-of-bounds read reachable from any path lookup, stat() or open()
on an indexed directory once the image is mounted.
Commit 775c17386a6f ("ocfs2: validate dx_root extent list fields during
block read") already bounds dr_list for the non-inline dx_root, but left
the inline dr_entries path and the dx_leaf dl_list unchecked. Add the
same read-time validation for both entry lists: de_count must equal the
capacity of the block (ocfs2_dx_entries_per_leaf()/per_root()) and
de_num_used must not exceed de_count, rejecting corrupted metadata with
-EFSCORRUPTED before ocfs2_dx_dir_search() can walk an out-of-range entry
array.
de_count is always written as exactly the block capacity when a leaf or
inline root is formatted, so the equality check does not reject any valid
image.

A crafted OCFS2 image with corrupted orphan-directory extent metadata can
make umount hang.
During unmount, ocfs2_recovery_disable() waits for the
ocfs2_complete_recovery work item to finish. The worker scans the orphan
directory through ocfs2_queue_orphans() and ocfs2_dir_foreach(). If
ocfs2_read_dir_block() fails on a corrupted directory block,
ocfs2_dir_foreach_blk_el() skips the block and continues walking. On a
badly corrupted directory this can keep orphan recovery busy for a long
time, leaving umount blocked while flushing osb->ocfs2_wq.
Return the read error immediately for full directory scans and propagate
the error from ocfs2_dir_foreach(). When ocfs2_empty_dir() receives such
an error, report the directory as non-empty so unlink/rmdir does not
proceed on an unreadable directory.

Commit 390ac56cf0f6 ("ocfs2: add boundary check to
ocfs2_check_dir_entry()") added an out-of-bounds guard using the
caller-supplied 'offset' argument:
if (offset > size - OCFS2_DIR_REC_LEN(1))
return 0;
However, 'offset' and 'size' are not measured against the same base for
all callers. In the block-based lookup path, ocfs2_find_entry_el() passes
'offset' as an absolute offset into the whole directory:
i = ocfs2_search_dirblock(bh, dir, name, namelen,
block << sb->s_blocksize_bits,
bh->b_data, sb->s_blocksize, res_dir);
while 'size' is a single block size (sb->s_blocksize). For any directory
entry located in the second or later block, 'offset' is >=
sb->s_blocksize, so the guard rejects every such entry even though it is
perfectly valid and lies entirely within its block buffer.
This makes mounting fail for filesystems whose system directory spans more
than one block, e.g. a volume formatted with a small block size:
mkfs.ocfs2 -b 512 -C 4096 -N 2 -T datafiles --fs-features=usrquota,grpquota
ocfs2_check_dir_entry:314 ERROR: directory entry (#18: offset=512) too close to end or out-of-bounds
ocfs2_init_local_system_inodes:496 ERROR: status=-22, sysfile=12, slot=0
ocfs2_mount_volume:1757 ERROR: status = -22
The dirent's position within the buffer being validated is ((char *)de -
buf), which is what the rest of the function already uses (via
next_offset) and what must be bounds-checked against 'size'. Compute that
buffer-relative offset and use it for the guard. The subtraction is
reordered to size - buf_offset < OCFS2_DIR_REC_LEN(1) to avoid an unsigned
underflow when size is smaller than the minimal record length.

The full extent list check is introduced by commit 44acc46d182f, which is
to avoid NULL pointer dereference if a dirent is not found.
Reworking the error message to not reference rec. Instead, report
major_hash being looked up and l_next_free_rec, which naturally covers
both failure cases (empty extent list and no matching record) without
needing a separate l_next_free_rec == 0 guard.

Patch series "ocfs2: consolidate extent list validation into block read
callbacks".
ocfs2 validates extent list fields (l_count, l_next_free_rec) at various
points during extent tree traversal. This is fragile because each caller
must remember to check for corrupted on-disk data before using it.
This series moves those checks into the block read validation callbacks
(ocfs2_validate_dx_root and ocfs2_validate_extent_block), so corrupted
fields are caught early at block read time. Redundant post-read checks
are then removed.
This patch (of 4):
Move the extent list l_count validation from ocfs2_dx_dir_lookup_rec()
into ocfs2_validate_dx_root(), so that corrupted on-disk fields are caught
early at block read time rather than during directory lookups.
Additionally, add a l_next_free_rec <= l_count check to prevent
out-of-bounds access when iterating over extent records.
Both checks are skipped for inline dx roots (OCFS2_DX_FLAG_INLINE), which
use dr_entries instead of dr_list.

On 32-bit architectures, unsigned long is only 32 bits wide, which
causes 64-bit inode numbers to be silently truncated. Several
filesystems (NFS, XFS, BTRFS, etc.) can generate inode numbers that
exceed 32 bits, and this truncation can lead to inode number collisions
and other subtle bugs on 32-bit systems.
Change the type of inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64 to ensure that
inode numbers are always represented as 64-bit values regardless of
architecture. Update all format specifiers treewide from %lu/%lx to
%llu/%llx to match the new type, along with corresponding local variable
types.
This is the bulk treewide conversion. Earlier patches in this series
handled trace events separately to allow trace field reordering for
better struct packing on 32-bit.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The two reports are all caused invalid negative i_size of dir inode. For
ocfs2, dir_inode can't be negative or zero.
Here add a check in which is called by ocfs2_check_dir_for_entry(). It
fixes the second report as ocfs2_check_dir_for_entry() must be called
before ocfs2_prepare_dir_for_insert(). Also set a up limit for dir with
OCFS2_INLINE_DATA_FL. The i_size can't be great than blocksize.

Pull non-MM updates from Andrew Morton:
"Many singleton patches - please see the various changelogs for
details.
Quite a lot of nilfs2 work this time around.
Notable patch series in this pull request are:
- "mul_u64_u64_div_u64: new implementation" by Nicolas Pitre, with
assistance from Uwe Kleine-König. Reimplement mul_u64_u64_div_u64()
to provide (much) more accurate results. The current implementation
was causing Uwe some issues in the PWM drivers.
- "xz: Updates to license, filters, and compression options" from
Lasse Collin. Miscellaneous maintenance and kinor feature work to
the xz decompressor.
- "Fix some GDB command error and add some GDB commands" from
Kuan-Ying Lee. Fixes and enhancements to the gdb scripts.
- "treewide: add missing MODULE_DESCRIPTION() macros" from Jeff
Johnson. Adds lots of MODULE_DESCRIPTIONs, thus fixing lots of
warnings about this.
- "nilfs2: add support for some common ioctls" from Ryusuke Konishi.
Adds various commonly-available ioctls to nilfs2.
- "This series fixes a number of formatting issues in kernel doc
comments" from Ryusuke Konishi does that.
- "nilfs2: prevent unexpected ENOENT propagation" from Ryusuke
Konishi. Fix issues where -ENOENT was being unintentionally and
inappropriately returned to userspace.
- "nilfs2: assorted cleanups" from Huang Xiaojia.
- "nilfs2: fix potential issues with empty b-tree nodes" from Ryusuke
Konishi fixes some issues which can occur on corrupted nilfs2
filesystems.
- "scripts/decode_stacktrace.sh: improve error reporting and
usability" from Luca Ceresoli does those things"

The custom swap functions used in ocfs2 do not perform any special
operations and can be replaced with the built-in swap function of sort.
This change not only reduces code size but also improves efficiency,
especially in scenarios where CONFIG_RETPOLINE is enabled, as it makes
indirect function calls more expensive.
By using the built-in swap, we avoid these costly indirect function calls,
leading to better performance.

filldir_t instances (directory iterators callbacks) used to return 0 for
"OK, keep going" or -E... for "stop". Note that it's *NOT* how the
error values are reported - the rules for those are callback-dependent
and ->iterate{,_shared}() instances only care about zero vs. non-zero
(look at emit_dir() and friends).
So let's just return bool ("should we keep going?") - it's less confusing
that way. The choice between "true means keep going" and "true means
stop" is bikesheddable; we have two groups of callbacks -
do something for everything in directory, until we run into problem
and
find an entry in directory and do something to it.
The former tended to use 0/-E... conventions - -E<something> on failure.
The latter tended to use 0/1, 1 being "stop, we are done".
The callers treated anything non-zero as "stop", ignoring which
non-zero value did they get.
"true means stop" would be more natural for the second group; "true
means keep going" - for the first one. I tried both variants and
the things like
if allocation failed
something = -ENOMEM;
return true;
just looked unnatural and asking for trouble.

The section "19) Editor modelines and other cruft" in
Documentation/process/coding-style.rst clearly says, "Do not include any
of these in source files."
I recently receive a patch to explicitly add a new one.
Let's do treewide cleanups, otherwise some people follow the existing code
and attempt to upstream their favoriate editor setups.
It is even nicer if scripts/checkpatch.pl can check it.
If we like to impose coding style in an editor-independent manner, I think
editorconfig (patch [1]) is a saner solution.

Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1]
(or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings
(e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized,
either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes.
In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining
needless uses with the following script:
git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \
xargs perl -pi -e \
's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g;
s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;'
drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid
pathological white-space.
No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0
for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64,

Deduplicate the ocfs2 file type conversion implementation and remove
OCFS2_FT_* definitions - file systems that use the same file types as
defined by POSIX do not need to define their own versions and can use the
common helper functions decared in fs_types.h and implemented in
fs_types.c
Common implementation can be found via bbe7449e2599 ("fs: common

Somehow, file system metadata was corrupted, which causes
ocfs2_check_dir_entry() to fail in function ocfs2_dir_foreach_blk_el().
According to the original design intention, if above happens we should
skip the problematic block and continue to retrieve dir entry. But
there is obviouse misuse of brelse around related code.
After failure of ocfs2_check_dir_entry(), current code just moves to
next position and uses the problematic buffer head again and again
during which the problematic buffer head is released for multiple times.
I suppose, this a serious issue which is long-lived in ocfs2. This may
cause other file systems which is also used in a the same host insane.
So we should also consider about bakcporting this patch into linux
-stable.

The function inode_cmp_iversion{+raw} is counter-intuitive, because it
returns true when the counters are different and false when these are equal.
Rename it to inode_eq_iversion{+raw}, which will returns true when
the counters are equal and false otherwise.

The following panic was caught when run ocfs2 disconfig single test
(block size 512 and cluster size 8192). ocfs2_journal_dirty() return
-ENOSPC, that means credits were used up.
The total credit should include 3 times of "num_dx_leaves" from
ocfs2_dx_dir_rebalance(), because 2 times will be consumed in
ocfs2_dx_dir_transfer_leaf() and 1 time will be consumed in
ocfs2_dx_dir_new_cluster() -> __ocfs2_dx_dir_new_cluster() ->
ocfs2_dx_dir_format_cluster(). But only two times is included in
ocfs2_dx_dir_rebalance_credits(), fix it.
This can cause read-only fs(v4.1+) or panic for mainline linux depending
on mount option.

CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it
doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps.
Use current_time() instead.
CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe.
This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions
vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them
y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be
extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all
file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also,
current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be
y2038 safe.
Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used
to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they
share the same time granularity.

The use of 'status' in __ocfs2_add_entry() can return wrong value.
Some functions' return value in __ocfs2_add_entry(), i.e
ocfs2_journal_access_di() is saved to 'status'. But 'status' is not
used in 'bail' label for returning result of __ocfs2_add_entry().
So use retval instead of status.

When running ocfs2 test suite multiple nodes reflink stress test, for a
4 nodes cluster, every unlink() for refcounted file needs about 700s.
The slow unlink is caused by the contention of refcount tree lock since
all nodes are unlink files using the same refcount tree. When the
unlinking file have many extents(over 1600 in our test), most of the
extents has refcounted flag set. In ocfs2_commit_truncate(), it will
execute the following call trace for every extents. This means it needs
get and released refcount tree lock about 1600 times. And when several
nodes are do this at the same time, the performance will be very low.
ocfs2_remove_btree_range()
-- ocfs2_lock_refcount_tree()
---- ocfs2_refcount_lock()
------ __ocfs2_cluster_lock()
ocfs2_refcount_lock() is costly, move it to ocfs2_commit_truncate() to
do lock/unlock once can improve a lot performance.
