CCG4 firmware occasionally fails to respond to I2C read requests,
especially when reading cci and intr_reg from the ISR path. In these
cases, i2c_transfer() returns -EREMOTEIO.
The CCG4 is EOL, and Infineon no longer supports firmware updates, so
a software workaround is necessary.
Attempt the read up to CCG_READ_MAX_RETRIES (4) times in total when
-EREMOTEIO is returned, sleeping ~1 ms via fsleep() between attempts.
This allows recovery from transient I2C failures without affecting
other error paths.
The sleep is safe because ccg_read() is called both from process
context and from ccg_irq_handler(), which runs in threaded IRQ
context (registered via request_threaded_irq() with a NULL hard-IRQ
handler), so sleeping is allowed in both cases.

When the PPM reports more than one DisplayPort alternate mode for a
connector, ucsi_ccg_update_altmodes() merges them into a single entry
in uc->updated[] and sets uc->has_multiple_dp. In that case,
ucsi_ccg_update_get_current_cam_cmd() rewrites the response of the
GET_CURRENT_CAM command. The response is a single byte holding the
index of the currently active alternate mode, and it is provided by
the PPM firmware.
The function uses this byte directly as an index into uc->orig[], and
then uses the linked_idx read from that entry as the translated index
into uc->updated[]. Both arrays have UCSI_MAX_ALTMODES entries, but
neither index is checked against that size.
If a malicious or buggy PPM reports a value of UCSI_MAX_ALTMODES or
larger, e.g. 0xFF, uc->orig[cam].linked_idx reads over the end of
uc->orig[]. The byte read from there is then used as the index for
writing cam into uc->updated[new_cam].active_idx, so the out-of-bounds
read is followed by an out-of-bounds write. This happens without any
userspace action, since the UCSI core issues GET_CURRENT_CAM on its own
when handling connector changes.
Fix this by rejecting responses whose index is out of range, printing an
error and returning -EPROTO, so that the caller cannot accept this.
Also check linked_idx before using it as an index, so that the write into
uc->updated[] is always within bounds.
The response is now only processed when the command completed without
an error. ucsi_sync_control_common() only reads the response when the
CCI reports command completion, so otherwise the buffer is not filled
and must not be mistaken for an invalid index.
This bug was found with a Python script that traces where firmware input
is used.

Since Thunderbolt alternate mode support was added,
`ucsi_altmode_update_active()` is called on every Connector Partner
Changed event. This made the driver send `UCSI_GET_CURRENT_CAM` to
PPMs even when the partner had no alternate modes registered. Firmware
that does not support the optional alternate mode details answered Not
Supported, which produced a spurious error on every partner change:
```
ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: GET_CURRENT_CAM command failed
```
Fixed by skipping the command when there is nothing to update.

On Qualcomm X1E80100 / X1P42100 platforms using the Parade PS883x
retimer, hotplugging USB4-capable docks such as the Lenovo 40B0 can
result in working USB but no DisplayPort output.
When the dock negotiates USB4, the retimer receives TYPEC_MODE_USB4
and forwards it via typec_mux_set(). The qmp-combo PHY then selects
USB3-only because no classic DP altmode SVID is present in the state,
leaving the DP transmitter and AUX channel disabled.
Reject USB4 with -EOPNOTSUPP on platforms whose USB4 / DP-tunneling
stack is not ready yet. The Type-C stack then falls back to USB3 + DP
Alt Mode. DP altmode configuration continues to use the existing
ps883x_set() path.
Use a machine-compatible table rather than a DT property so the quirk
stays inside the kernel and can be removed later without creating ABI.

The connection-status registers need time to propagate through the
analog front-end (PLLs, lane training) after they are written. A 30 ms
delay after ps883x_configure() brings DisplayPort Alt Mode hotplug on
the Lenovo 40B0 to a reliable success rate.
Tested with T14s G6 and IdeaCentre Mini with the 40B0 dock on the HDMI
port with a Type-C host cable. Qualcomm firmware that programs this
retimer from an MCU uses a similar post-config delay.

typec_port_match() adds a component match for the USB4 port whenever a
USB 3.x port that shares the _PLD with the Type-C connector has the
"usb4-host-interface" property, regardless of whether a USB4 port can
ever be registered for it. The component framework binds the aggregate
device only once every match has found its component, so if the USB4
port never shows up, the USB 2.0 and USB 3.x ports are not linked to the
connector either: the "connector" symlinks are never created and USB
devices enumerated on those ports are never linked with the Type-C
partner.
This happens in at least two cases:
1. CONFIG_USB4 is not reachable from the Type-C core, i.e. CONFIG_USB4=n,
or CONFIG_USB4=m with CONFIG_TYPEC=y as in the x86_64 gki_defconfig.
usb4_usb3_port_match() is then a stub that always returns false.
2. The firmware references a USB4 host interface that is disabled. For
example, on Intel Alder Lake-N (ChromeOS Nissa) the TCSS xHCI USB3
ports (SS01-SS04) reference TDM0/TDM1, whose _STA returns 0 because
the SoC has no integrated Thunderbolt/USB4 and the DMA controllers
are disabled in TCSS DEVEN. No PCI device is enumerated for them.
Only add the USB4 component match if CONFIG_USB4 is reachable and the
referenced host interface is available and has been enumerated as a
device. The latter mirrors the check in usb_acpi_add_usb4_devlink(), see
commit 623dae3e7084 ("usb: acpi: fix boot hang due to early incorrect
'tunneled' USB3 device links").

ucsi_find_fwnode() currently maps UCSI connectors to Device tree
connector nodes based on the order in which connector child nodes
are described in DT.
This can fail because the ordering of child nodes isn't guaranteed
in Device-tree. For example, DTB may contain connector@1 before
connector@0, causing connector numbers to be associated with the wrong
fwnode. As a result, role switch and Type-C notifications can be
delivered to the wrong remote endpoints.
Fix this by using the "reg" property of each connector to match
its corresponding fwnode. While at it, if the reg property isn't
present, then fall back to the old method.

tcpm_unregister_port() destroys the port's kthread worker first and
calls tcpm_reset_port() afterwards. Since the Discover Identity retry
mechanism was added, tcpm_reset_port() calls
mod_vdm_discovery_cancel_delayed_work(), which does
kthread_cancel_work_sync(&port->vdm_discovery_work). That dereferences
work->worker, which still points at the worker that
kthread_destroy_worker() has already freed:

Reset the port if the tcpm fails to start the FAST_ROLE_SWAP AMS by
initiating error recovery on it.
This helps in cases where some cables (incorrectly) signal an FRS to
an FRS capable port during disconnection. The TCPC autonomously starts
sourcing VBUS on detecting the FRS signal. However, the VBUS sourcing is
left on when the FAST_ROLE_SWAP AMS fails to start (as tcpm_sink_tx_ok

When probe fails after the chip was already in APP mode (booted from
EEPROM), the err_reset_controller path unconditionally calls
tps->data->reset(), which for tps25750 sends the GAID 4CC command.
GAID transitions the chip from APP back to PTCH, causing a second
probe attempt that sees PTCH mode and tries to load the firmware from
/lib/firmware, instead of reading the EEPROM as it should.
The err_reset_controller path can be triggered by -EPROBE_DEFER from
the probe sequence. GAID should only be sent when the controller
actually loaded firmware at probe time.
The abnormal behavior was seen on a tps25751d that has an EEPROM
connected to it.

On some platforms the PPM is not ready to answer commands correctly
for a short window during boot. On the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Gen 14 (21V7, tested on BIOS 1.12 and 1.14) roughly half of all boots
fail ucsi_init() with either -ENODEV (GET_CAPABILITY completes but

logged as "possible UCSI driver bug"). The failure is not a timeout:
increasing the sync command completion wait does not change the rate.
Since ucsi_init_work() only requeues on -EPROBE_DEFER, a single bad
answer during that window leaves UCSI dead for the whole session, so
Type-C events are never handled again; most visibly, the machine
silently never resumes charging after the charger is replugged.
Manually reloading ucsi_acpi a few seconds later has succeeded on
every attempt observed, which suggests simply retrying is enough.
Retry -ENODEV and -EINVAL the same way as the role switch wait, log
the retries at debug level, keep the loud report for the case where
the retries are exhausted, and note when init only succeeded after
retrying.
Tested on the affected machine: across 8 consecutive boots with this
patch, 5 hit the failure (matching the historical ~50-60% rate) and
all 5 recovered on the first retry ("PPM init succeeded after 2
attempts"). 0 of 8 boots ended with UCSI unusable, where ~5 of 8
would have without the patch.

The driver core only creates the sysfs "module" symlink for a built-in
driver when its struct device_driver has mod_name set (see
module_add_driver()). This driver left mod_name unset, so its built-in
form had no such symlink.
Set mod_name to KBUILD_MODNAME during driver registration. Built-in
drivers now gain the symlink, while loadable modules are unaffected.

The pmic_glink client is released by the devres cleanup, which runs
after pmic_glink_ucsi_remove() has returned, so its notification
callbacks can queue work until then. Work that runs after
ucsi_unregister() has been called touches freed state: it dereferences
the connector array that ucsi_unregister() freed, or registers and
unregisters the instance a second time.
Disable both work items with disable_work_sync() before unregistering,
and unregister only if the instance is still registered.

cc_debounce_dwork can be queued before port_start() fails:
tcpm_register_port() runs first, and its state machine may invoke
set_cc() or start_toggling() from the TCPM worker. The error path then
calls tcpm_unregister_port(), whose worker flush may queue the delayed
work before devres frees pmic_typec_port.
Disable and drain the delayed work directly at port_start()'s error
exit. Do not use port_stop() for this path: its IRQs use IRQF_NO_AUTOEN
and are enabled only after a successful port_start().

cc_debounce_dwork is queued from the set_cc() and start_toggling()
callbacks, which run from TCPM's kthread worker. port_stop() returns
before tcpm_unregister_port() destroys that worker. Flushing the worker
during unregister may therefore run a callback which queues the delayed
work after port_stop() has returned.
The delayed work can then run after devres has freed pmic_typec_port.
Use disable_delayed_work_sync() in port_stop() to cancel a pending
instance and prevent the TCPM callbacks from queueing another one.

The Intel VID status register is actually 9 bytes long and doesn't
contain the raw VDOs but only the upper 16bits for device mode and enter
mode. Shift those two fields into place and reconstruct the cable
discover mode VDO from the data status register instead since it's not
directly accessible. With this fixed now the correct VDOs are forwarded
to the PHY and the to-be-submitted Thunderbolt/USB4 native host interface
so that the right mode can be negotiated and the link actually comes up.

regulator_is_enabled() reports the aggregate regulator state, not
whether this consumer holds an enable reference. If another consumer
enables VBUS first, the driver can skip its own regulator_enable() call
and later attempt to drop a reference it never acquired, triggering an
unbalanced regulator disable warning.
Track successful enable and disable calls locally. Keep the state
unchanged when an operation fails so a later role or ID notification

Some devices use combo PHYs (i.e. USB3 + DisplayPort), which also
handle the lane muxing. These PHYs are referenced twice from
the USB-C connector (USB super-speed lines and SBU/AUX lines)
resulting in the mux being configured twice. Avoid this by

The fwnode_typec_switch_get() sporadically returns NULL instead of an
-EPROBE_DEFER for orientation-switch described in DT. This makes it
impossible to discern whether the DT does describe an orientation-switch
which did not probe yet, or whether the DT does not describe the switch.
This happens with gpio-sbu-mux connected to an I2C GPIO expander.
The class_find_device() on typec_switch_match() may return NULL in case
the mux did not probe just yet early on boot. The sw_devs[] array can be
empty on boot as well. If these two conditions occur, then the conditional
if (to_typec_switch_dev(dev) == sw_devs[i]) evaluates to true and the match
function returns NULL, which propagates to fwnode_typec_switch_get() which
makes it look as if the orientation-switch was not described in DT.
This is incorrect, because the mux driver will probe a bit later on, but
at that point, the caller of fwnode_typec_switch_get() already got the
NULL return value. The NULL return value also does not trigger IS_ERR(),
therefore the caller driver interprets this as if the orientation-switch
is not described in DT, and does not return -EPROBE_DEFER to try again,
even if it should.
Fix this by checking the class_find_device() return value, and return
-EPROBE_DEFER if it is NULL right away. If the return value is not NULL,
perform the deduplication test, and if that test passes, consider the
return value to be already non-NULL.

When a sink detach occurs while waiting for TX send status, the old
TCPM_SOURCING_VBUS event along with TCPM_VBUS_EVENT and TCPM_CC_EVENT
can be queued in port->pd_events. Because TCPM_SOURCING_VBUS is
evaluated after TCPM_VBUS_EVENT and TCPM_CC_EVENT in
tcpm_pd_event_handler(), a stale TCPM_SOURCING_VBUS event can override
the detach handling and incorrectly set port->vbus_source and
port->vbus_present to true.
Add a state guard to check that the port is either operating as a
Source (tcpm_port_is_source(port)) or in a Fast Role Swap (FRS) state
up to FR_SWAP_SNK_SRC_SOURCE_VBUS_APPLIED before processing
TCPM_SOURCING_VBUS. Otherwise, discard and log the event.

The synchronous command completion path in ucsi_sync_control_common()
hardcodes a 5 second (5 * HZ) timeout when waiting for the PPM to signal
command completion via ACPI notification. This value matched
UCSI_TIMEOUT_MS when it was still 5000 ms, but it was not updated when
that macro was later raised to 10000 ms to fix PPM reset timeouts.
As a result, the two PPM communication paths are now inconsistent: the
polling path in ucsi_reset_ppm() respects the 10 second timeout, while
the event-driven completion path still uses 5 seconds. On machines where
the firmware is slow to respond during boot (e.g. some Lenovo ThinkPad
models such as the E14 Gen 7), commands sent after the PPM reset, such
as SET_NOTIFICATION_ENABLE and GET_CAPABILITY, can exceed 5 seconds and
cause UCSI initialization to fail with:
ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: error -ETIMEDOUT: PPM init failed
Once UCSI init aborts, USB-C PD negotiation never completes, which in
turn blocks USB-C dock enumeration since the dock depends on a successful
PD contract.
Replace the hardcoded 5 * HZ with msecs_to_jiffies(UCSI_TIMEOUT_MS) so
that both communication paths share a single, consistent timeout value,
and future adjustments to UCSI_TIMEOUT_MS are picked up automatically.

tbt_altmode_remove() drops the plug and cable references without
draining tbt->work. The work function dereferences those references,
and can also requeue itself in its error path. The VDM callbacks can
queue the same work item.
Disable and drain tbt->work before dropping the references. This waits
for an existing invocation and prevents subsequent schedule_work()
calls from queueing it during teardown.
This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool and confirmed
by manual code review.

The commit 7aa7d4bf9d3f ("usb: typec: ucsi: Fix race condition and
ordering in port unregistration") consolidated port teardown into the
ucsi_unregister_port() helper. However, it introduced an ordering problem
in the ucsi_init() error path.
Fix this by ensuring ucsi_unregister_port() is called before we unregister
their corresponding lockdep keys.

The current mechanism for sending Discover Identity in the ready state
presents a flaw where tcpm_queue_vdm can collide with non interruptible
AMSes such as GET_SINK_CAP or VCONN_SWAP. vdm_run_state_machine will hit
the VDM_STATE_BUSY state, and Discover SVIDs or Discover Modes will not
retry.
This patch introduces a state machine under the enum vdm_discovery_states.
The tcpm_port field vdm_discovery_state tracks which step of the Discover
Identity process has been completed.
The current TCPM implementation utilizes the send_discover and
send_discover_prime booleans to queue Discover Identity in the
aforementioned collision case. These booleans are removed in place of
vdm_discovery_state and send_discover_work is replaced by
vdm_discovery_work, which runs unconditionally in the ready state.
When the Discovery process is complete, the port will move to the
VDM_DISCOVERY_COMPLETE state and vdm_discovery_work becomes a no-op.
When there are still Discovery VDMs to be sent, vdm_discovery_work will
continue based on the last received response from the port partner or
cable.

Add support for responding to Get_Battery_Cap (extended) request with a
a Battery_Capabilities (extended) msg. The requester will request
Battery Cap for a specific battery using an index in Get_Battery_Cap. In
case of failure to identify battery, TCPM shall reply with an
appropriate message indicating so.
As the Battery Cap Data Block size is 9 Bytes (lesser than
MaxExtendedMsgChunkLen of 26B), only a single chunk is required to
complete the AMS.
Support for Battery_Capabilities message is required for sinks that
contain battery as specified in USB PD Rev3.1 v1.8
("Applicability of Data Messages" section).
