Pull more MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- "mm: make VMA flag semantics explicit, eliminate VM_SPECIAL" (Lorenzo
Stoakes):
Replace VM_SPECIAL with helpers describing mapping ownership and
behavior. Enforce the mmap flag rules and convert affected drivers,
removing ambiguous tests shared by driver mappings and ordinary
memory.
- "support kselftest on nommu platform" (Hajime Tazaki):
Add opt-in mmap and mremap tests for NOMMU systems. Teach the runner
to avoid its fork-dependent timeout command and document the build
and runtime requirements.
- "mm/collapse: separate a collapse from its callers" (Kiryl
Shutsemau):
Separate huge-page collapse from caller policy. Replace khugepaged
identity checks with explicit permissions, and separate scanning from
collapse with the mmap_lock drop in one place.
- "mm: implement and use vma_has_anon_rmap(), silence KCSAN" (Lorenzo
Stoakes):
Provide a common helper for testing whether a VMA has anonymous
reverse mappings. Document the locking rules, annotate intentional
concurrent reads for KCSAN, and convert the core MM callers.
- "mm/sparse: remove SECTION_MARKED_PRESENT and further cleanups"
(David Hildenbrand):
Remove SECTION_MARKED_PRESENT in favor of the early-section flag.
Simplify sparse memory initialization, section metadata handling and
related PFN validity checks.
- "sh: remove NUMA and SPARSEMEM support" (Mike Rapoport):
Remove SuperH NUMA and SPARSEMEM support. The extra memory banks have
been unusable since the NO_BOOTMEM conversion, leaving only the code
and data overhead.
- "mm: Unify device DAX and HugeTLB vmemmap population paths" (Muchun
Song):
Unify the generic device DAX and HugeTLB vmemmap population paths and
shared tail-page handling. Remove the duplicate DAX machinery while
retaining the powerpc radix implementation.
- "kselftest: mm: fix some failure of split_huge_page_test" (Yeoreum
Yun):
Fix huge-page split tests racing with khugepaged recollapse. Use
pagemap and page flags instead of VMA-boundary assumptions which fail
when glibc has already enabled THP.
- "memcg: move memcgid refcount to objcg to unpin dying memcgs"
(Bingfang Guo):
Let dying memcgs be freed while swapped-out shmem still holds their
IDs. Move ID references to reparentable objcgs, with the necessary
swap accounting and RCU lifetime changes.
- "mm/truncate: fix data loss when truncating straddling large folios"
(Zhang Yi):
Preserve out-of-range data when truncating straddling large folios.
Fix a lookup race and split-failure handling, and handle minimum
folio orders for the forthcoming ext4 iomap buffered I/O path.
- "mm/damon: introduce damos quota goal target metric complement flag"
(SJ Park):
Let DAMOS quota goals use a metric's complement, so utilization can
also express free-memory goals without adding separate metrics. Add
the sysfs interface, documentation and tests.
- "arm64/mm: Standardize printing for pgtable entries" (Anshuman
Khandual):
Use the generic formatter for arm64 page-table entries, ready for
future wider entries. Move the safe-PTE-update check out of the
header to avoid an include cycle.
- "mm: kmsan: fix iounmap metadata teardown" (Dima Koziuk):
Fix KMSAN metadata leaks on iounmap and failed ioremap allocations.
Free backing pages before removing their mappings, and share the
teardown with partial-allocation cleanup.
- "mm/damon/core: preserve quota state when constructing schemes" (Karl
Mehltretter):
Preserve running DAMOS quota state while validating parameter
updates. Even rejected updates could reset accounting and exceed the
quota window; add tests for both accepted and rejected updates.
- "mm/vmalloc: fix vmalloc_dump_obj VA lookup" (Ye Liu):
Fix vmalloc_dump_obj() lookups for last-page addresses and
allocations spanning vmap zones. These allocations were being missed
in diagnostic output.
- "mm: various (urgent?) fixes" (David Hildenbrand):
Fix mmap charge leaks and hugetlb use-after-free, wrong-address
unmapping, stuck locks and endless faults. Also preserve reservations
on failed mremap and handle stale userfaultfd bits.
- "maple_tree: fix maple_range_64 crashes in RCU mode" (Dimitris
Charisis):
Fix pointer and metadata confusion during RCU destruction of
maple_range_64 nodes, avoiding double frees and invalid accesses. Add
a regression test; no in-tree user currently uses this combination.
- "mm: fix hugetlb NR_HUGETLB accounting on folio migration" (Hongfu
Li):
Fix hugetlb migration and preallocation accounting so /proc/vmstat
retains the correct count and memory.numa_stat follows the folio to
its new node.
- "mm/damon: fix a minor bug, clean code, and add a test" (SJ Park):
Fix 32-bit DAMON age overflow which made old regions look young.
Share hugetlb folio acquisition code and add a regression test for
the previously fixed last-region skipping bug.
- "mm/damon/core: cleanup code, reduce stack usage, and add kunit" (SJ
Park):
Reduce kdamond stack usage and remove unused enums. Add deterministic
PSI quota-goal tests which do not depend on the machine's current
memory pressure.
- "mm/damon: fix the temporal goal tuner's size quota conversion"
(Donggeun Yoo):
Bound the temporal tuner's quota conversion to prevent overflow and
zero effective quotas, which could stop schemes making progress. Add
boundary tests.
- "Don't use GFP_DMA when calling dma_alloc_coherent" (Baoquan He):
Remove redundant GFP_DMA flags from coherent DMA allocation calls.
The DMA API already selects the zone from device limits and ignores
the caller's flag.
- "kselftest: mm: fix intermittent failure khugepaged test" (Yeoreum
Yun):
Propagate child-process failures in the khugepaged tests and prevent
background collapse from racing their checks. This removes false
passes and intermittent failures.
- "MAINTAINERS: cover all hugetlb headers under HUGETLB SUBSYSTEM"
(Enze Li):
Cover all hugetlb headers in MAINTAINERS so get_maintainer.pl finds
the right maintainers. Also label the closing hugetlb_cgroup.h
include guard.
Summary of the 65 singletons in this merge:
The singletons include a few worthwhile performance fixes. Avoiding
unnecessary reverse-map tree updates gave a reported 15.9% improvement
in UnixBench's execl test on a 192-core x86 system. A reclaim retry
fix stops defrag_mode from spinning under memory.low protection; a
reported file-creation stress test ran 5.7 times faster, with far less
memory pressure. Narrower hugetlb invalidations also spare KVM guests
needless refaults: the reported Redis-in-VM P99 QPS penalty while
punching holes fell from 7.09% to 1.45%.
Several fixes prevent lost data or corrupted memory. Lazyfree
huge-page races with mremap()/munmap() could lose data or access freed
memory, and MADV_COLD could lose a concurrent write's dirty bit.
Another fix prevents stale migration entries from outliving large
folios. On filesystems with blocks smaller than a page, extending a
file by 4 GiB or more could expose bytes written past the old EOF
through mmap instead of zeroes. That is fixed, along with
use-after-free races in PAGEMAP_SCAN during process exit and in
memory-cgroup accounting on PREEMPT_RT kernels.
Other fixes stop UFFDIO_MOVE spinning forever on pinned large folios,
which could wedge other memory operations, and stop mremap() leaking
commit charges until allocations fail under strict overcommit. A
further fix keeps userfaultfd tracking intact on neighboring mappings.
NUMA binding no longer prevents long-term pins when the chosen node
has only movable memory, fixing QEMU/VFIO startup and io_uring buffer
registration failures. MGLRU also gets a fix for early-boot crashes
with memory cgroups disabled at boot, notably in small crash kernels.

Pull non-MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- "ocfs2: exit recovery thread on mount error path" (Joseph Qi):
Stop OCFS2 recovery before freeing failed-mount state and replay
slots, closing use-after-free and double-free races. Defer
suballocator reclaim to break a transaction-lock deadlock with
dismount.
- "ocfs2: validate suballoc slot and bit of metadata blocks" (Joseph
Qi):
Validate OCFS2 metadata suballocator slots, bits and directory index
block locations. Reject corrupt metadata with filesystem errors
instead of BUGs or out-of-bounds accesses.
- "ocfs2: deal with legacy signed name hash values" (Joseph Qi):
Restore OCFS2 lookups for non-ASCII names stored with legacy signed
hashes. Use stored xattr hashes during bucket splits to avoid
duplicate entries and spurious ENOSPC failures.
- "ocfs2: stabilize dentry names in file and setattr traces" (Cen
Zhang):
Snapshot OCFS2 names during file and setattr tracing to prevent
rename races using freed storage or mismatched names and lengths.
Preserve trace formats and the locked release open-count sample.
- "panic: fix panic_force_cpu= redirect races and NMI bypass" (Bradley
Morgan):
Fix panic_force_cpu races and NMI redirection so crash-kernel CPU
selection is honored. Preserve variable arguments on failed redirects
and use a static message buffer.
- "fat: allocate multiple clusters in fallocate" (Matheus Alves de
Almeida):
Allocate FAT clusters in batches for FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE and batch
FAT updates. This removes repeated single-cluster allocation
overhead, particularly on synchronous mounts.
- "scripts/gdb: fix radix tree lookup and stack depot diagnostic"
(Ting-Han Hou):
Fix GDB radix-tree lookup and its handling of XArray sibling, retry
and zero entries. Also repair the stack-depot diagnostic for an
out-of-range pool index.
- "hung_task: Improve warning budget handling and task reporting"
(Aaron Tomlin):
Reset the hung-task warning budget after recovery so later hangs
remain visible. Keep the configured limit intact and emit one summary
per scan when detailed reports exhaust the budget.
- "bootconfig: Reject unexpected data after null character and
cleanups" (Masami Hiramatsu):
Reject bootconfig data after an embedded null while accepting
trailing padding. Validate the full input in the userspace tool, and
retain internal tree sanity checks there rather than in the kernel.
- "kbuild: GCOV cleanups following the prefer-atomic fix" (Konstantin
Khorenko):
Use the actual GCOV build flags in the prefer-atomic compiler probe.
Move flag setup into scripts/Makefile.gcov and skip the probe when
GCOV is disabled.
- "ocfs2: xattr bucket validation fixes" (Joseph Qi):
Accept valid OCFS2 xattr buckets spanning 512-byte blocks, avoiding
false read-only remounts. Reject misaligned buckets and return errors
instead of panicking on corrupt defrag metadata.
- "ocfs2: fix metadata reservation for xattr value trees" (Joseph Qi):
Reserve enough OCFS2 metadata for new and relocated xattr value
trees. Fix shortfalls which could cause ENOSPC, dropped entries and
leaked clusters on fragmented filesystems; remove duplicate
reservations.
- "Introduce arch_do_panic" (Mete Durlu):
Add arch_do_panic() and move s390 and sparc handling out of generic
panic code. The architecture-specific actions now follow the
end-of-panic marker.
- "checkpatch: userspace improvements" (Petr Vorel):
Improve checkpatch's userspace detection and suppress kernel-only
checks. Recognize standard inttypes macros and add explicit
--userspace and --no-userspace overrides.
- "ocfs2: validate dr_fs_generation of dir index root blocks" (Joseph
Qi):
Check OCFS2 directory index generations and leaf block numbers.
Reject stale or misplaced blocks instead of using metadata left by a
previously formatted filesystem.
- "selftests/membarrier: Skip an unregistered memory barrier test on
Musl" (Chris Gellermann):
Skip the unregistered membarrier test when libc has already
registered the command. Musl does this during thread creation,
causing false failures in the multithreaded test.
- "init: fix array boundary bugs in boot parameter parsing"
(Wilson Felipe Pereira):
Fix boot argument boundary cases which leave stale arguments in
init's command line or panic when replacing the final environment
variable. Clear the last slot and check duplicates before the limit.
Summary of the 87 singletons in this merge:
The OCFS2 singletons fix deadlocks between xattr updates and inline
truncation, and during inode reclaim. Corrupt quota and extent
metadata could also crash the kernel or corrupt memory; these paths
now check the layout before using it. Other fixes close use-after-free
and publication races around cluster reconfiguration, node failure,
quota remount errors and shared refcount trees. New files now retain
security labels from all stacked LSMs instead of silently dropping all
but one. Valid xattr insertions also stop tripping FORTIFY on builds
with counted arrays.
Elsewhere, a lost wakeup could leave hardware-monitoring reads stuck
in unkillable sleep and block further I2C traffic. That is fixed, as
are kernel memory leaks in POSIX message-queue notifications and tmpfs
casefold setup which could grow until memory is exhausted. A driver
removal race which could crash the kernel is fixed too. The
hibernation command through reboot() also stops taking the same mutex
twice, avoiding a deadlock before suspension.
On the boot side, bzip2 decoding now accepts valid full blocks emitted
by lbzip2, fixing failures to boot those compressed kernels. Malformed
bzip2 streams can no longer overflow the decode buffer, and LZ4
initrds are checked before the decoder can read past their end. FAT
rejects geometry which overflows the data-area calculation on 32-bit
systems, and rolls back entries when inode setup fails, preventing
failed creations from reappearing after remount. The x86 XOR and RAID6
AVX paths also avoid imposing a slowdown on subsequent SSE code.

dma_alloc_coherent() allocates the DMA buffer with the device's
addressing limitation in mind; the DMA core picks the zone from the
device's coherent DMA mask and ignores GFP_DMA passed by the caller.
Use GFP_KERNEL instead so the allocation may reclaim as usual for
probe-time allocations.

The dummy_hcd (Host Controller) and dummy_udc (Device Controller) are
implemented as two separate platform drivers that share the same underlying
state (struct dummy). They are designed to be created and destroyed
together during the module's init and exit phases.
If userspace forces the dummy_hcd driver to unbind from the device via
sysfs, dummy_hcd_remove() cleans up the host controllers and sets the
pointers to NULL (dum->hs_hcd = NULL). However, the dummy_udc driver is
still bound to its device, meaning the USB gadget is still registered with
the udc-core subsystem.
If a new gadget driver is subsequently registered, it binds to the
still-registered dummy_udc gadget, invoking the dummy_udc_start() callback.
This callback attempts to retrieve the HCD state using
gadget_to_dummy_hcd(), which returns NULL because of the unbind. This
results in a null-pointer dereference:

Adding NULL checks to the UDC callbacks is not a robust solution because
there is no synchronization between dummy_hcd_remove() and the UDC
callbacks, which would result in a use-after-free race condition if the HCD
were unbound concurrently.
Fix this by setting .suppress_bind_attrs = true in both driver definitions.
This prevents userspace from unbinding these drivers dynamically, ensuring
their lifecycles remain strictly synchronized with the module's load/unload
process.

dummy_hcd services URB completions from an hrtimer callback that
rearms itself with a fixed 125 us delay (one high-speed microframe)
for as long as any URBs are queued. Against a permanently polled HID
interrupt endpoint the queue never drains, so the timer runs at ~8 kHz
regardless of actual traffic.
On timer-rate-sensitive platforms (observed on one consumer AM4 board
with a current BIOS and a stock kernel) this timer rate co-existing
with a live Bluetooth session on the machine's real xHCI controller
resulted in a hard, below-software platform hang: printk, SysRq, NMI
and both watchdogs died in the same instant, with no panic, no MCE,
and empty pstore. 13 occurrences over 5 days, reliably reproducible
with that configuration (hangs within 20 min to 2.5 h of uptime).
The same workload with the emulated microframe lengthened to 1000 us
(this parameter) ran ~8 hours with zero hangs, and USB-cable sessions
(identical gadget traffic, no Bluetooth co-existence) never hung.
Note that lengthening the emulated microframe makes the emulation run
slower than a physical device would; users of the parameter trade
that emulation fidelity for interrupt-rate headroom.
The per-frame bandwidth budget in dummy_timer() does not scale with
the emulated microframe length; making that accounting microframe-
correct is planned as a follow-up patch. Otherwise nothing in the
driver's behaviour depends on the emulated microframe length.
Default keeps the current 125 us behaviour bit-for-bit (and defaults
to 1000 us for full-speed emulation, where the natural unit is the
1-ms frame). Values below 125 are rejected.

dummy_hcd registers two separate root hubs/buses: a HighSpeed one
emulating an EHCI-class controller, and a SuperSpeed one emulating an
xHCI-class controller. usb_submit_urb() rejects SG URBs whose
non-final segments are not a multiple of the endpoint maxpacket size,
unless the bus has no_sg_constraint set.
For SuperSpeed bulk endpoints maxpacket is 1024 bytes; usbtest
generates SG lists with varying segment sizes (e.g. 512 bytes) that
are valid transfers but not maxpacket-aligned, causing usb_submit_urb
to return -EINVAL before the URB reaches the host controller.
xHCI-class controllers have no such DMA alignment requirement, so set
no_sg_constraint on the SS bus to match. Leave the HS bus unchanged:
EHCI-class controllers do have this requirement in hardware, and
dummy_hcd's HS roothub is meant to emulate that behaviour, so the
constraint should stay enforced there.

For USB_SPEED_SUPER, dummy_hcd sets ep0 maxpacket to 9.
That is incorrect for SuperSpeed ep0 and breaks short packet handling

gadgetfs_bind() calls get_dev() only on the success path, but
gadgetfs_unbind() called from the enomem error label unconditionally
calls put_dev(). When bind fails (e.g. ENOMEM), put_dev() fires
without a matching get_dev(), leaving the refcount unbalanced.
A subsequent close of the ep0 file descriptor calls dev_release() ->
put_dev() which hits zero and frees the object; then gadgetfs_kill_sb()
calls put_dev(the_device) again on the already-freed pointer, triggering
a refcount underflow and use-after-free.
Fix by calling get_dev() at the start of gadgetfs_bind(), before any
error path that invokes gadgetfs_unbind(), so the reference is always
balanced regardless of whether bind succeeds or fails.

GadgetFS passes an excessively large user input len to kmalloc and kmalloc
gives a WARN (see below for details). Suppress it by passing __GFP_NOWARN
to kmalloc used by both ep_write_iter() and ep_read_iter(). Follow the
same method as commit 4f2629ea67e72 ("USB: usbfs: Don't WARN about
excessively large memory allocations").
kmalloc is used to allocate physically contiguous memory for kernel
allocations. For requests larger than KMALLOC_MAX_CACHE_SIZE, kmalloc
uses the page allocator and can only support up to KMALLOC_MAX_SIZE. For
request sizes bigger than KMALLOC_MAX_SIZE, the page allocator can emit a
WARN because kmalloc allocates an order greater than MAX_PAGE_ORDER.

The dummy-hcd driver emulates synchronize_irq() by waiting until its
private callback_usage counter drops to 0 (with the private lock not
held). This counter is incremented whenever a gadget driver callback
occurs (which requires the private lock to be dropped), but not when a
request completion handler is called.
This is an oversight. Request completion is triggered by timer
interrupts (emulating device IRQs in a real UDC), and the interrupt
handlers are supposed to have completed when the synchronize_irq()
emulation routine returns -- they aren't supposed to be in the middle
of a completion callback. If this happens it can lead to a gadget
driver's unbind routine running before all outstanding request
completions have finished, maybe even allowing the gadget driver's
module to be unloaded while a completion handler is still running.
Fix the oversight by incrementing the callback_usage value across
request completion callbacks.

The gadgetfs driver uses work routines to handle asynchronous I/O,
but it doesn't make certain that the work routines have completed
before it allows itself to be unloaded from memory (if it is built as
a module). Testing shows that under the right conditions this can
actually happen.
Fix this problem by creating a dedicated workqueue for the driver's
work routines. Automatic flushing when the workqueue is destroyed
will ensure that no work routines are still in operation when the
driver is unloaded.

The gadgetfs driver contains a test for whether any data from a
completed asynchronous I/O transfer needs to be copied back to
userspace. This test is not being done correctly in all cases. It's
a subtle issue involving whether an iov_iter requires a separate iovec
for storing its destination buffer information; sometimes this
information can be stored directly in the iov_iter itself. Thus, lack
of a separate iovec does not mean that there is no data to copy.
Rather than messing around with the internal details of struct
iov_iter, fix the test by simply adding a new field to keep track of
whether an AIO operation is a read or a write.

It has been known for a long time that the asynchronous I/O handling
in the gadgetfs driver is subject to multiple races and locking
issues. Even the very first version of AIO support -- see:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tglx/history.git/commit/drivers/usb/gadget/inode.c?id=75787d943ab3770270c6c3f6e154ab8e59f693ef
-- had weird locking in ep_aio_cancel(), a tacit acknowledgment that
it wasn't being done correctly. (I vaguely recall some discussion
about this on the linux-usb-devel mailing list, eventually concluding
that the problem was too hard to solve then. See for example these
threads:
https://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-devel&m=118530826204776&w=2
https://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-devel&m=119129049420190&w=2
Note: usbfs2 was an attempt to update the usbfs API. It never went
anywhere.)
Regardless, it's well past time to fix all these issues. Minseo Kim
has done very thorough testing, and all the races he was able to find
are fixed by this patch. So are the lockdep violations.
The key is keeping explicit track of the various stages of
asynchronous URB submission/completion as well as of AIO cancellation,
because bad interactions between those two are responsible for the
races. Doing this required adding a new spinlock to serialize access
to the new state variables, as well as making local copies of values
belonging to a private data structure that could be deallocated at
unexpected times.
Fixing the lockdep problems required moving the usb_unlink_urb()
operation to a separate worker thread (see the comment added to
ep_aio_cancel()). Aside from that, the overall structure of the code
was not changed very much, although there is quite a lot of churn in
several of the AIO-handling subroutines.

The kerneldoc for usb_ep_disable() in drivers/usb/gadget/udc/core.c
starts with a confusing (and probably meaningless) sentence, and it
fails to mention that the routine can return before all the completion
handlers for previously completed requests on the endpoint have
finished. Also, the summary line doesn't say what the routine
actually does, and the text doesn't use proper capitalization.

generic_set_cmd() and generic_get_cmd() use the low nibble of
ctrl->bRequest as an index into con->data[]:
u8 cmd = (ctrl->bRequest & 0x0F); /* 0 .. 15 */
...
con->data[cmd] = value; /* OOB when cmd >= 5 */
struct usb_audio_control (include/linux/usb/audio.h) declares data as
a 5-element array, so indices 5 through 15 write (or read) up to 44
bytes past the end of the array on the heap.
A malicious USB host can craft a class-specific SET_CUR / GET_CUR
request with an arbitrary bRequest value, triggering the out-of-bounds
access from an IRQ completion handler with no further preconditions.
Add an ARRAY_SIZE() guard to both functions.

When user space sets up FunctionFS with only full-speed descriptors
(e.g., flags = FUNCTIONFS_HAS_FS_DESC) and the gadget operates at a
higher speed (such as USB_SPEED_HIGH or USB_SPEED_SUPER),
config_ep_by_speed() detects that the function lacks descriptors for
the current speed, logs a warning, and falls back to full-speed
descriptors. The endpoint is then successfully enabled via
usb_ep_enable(), and epfile->ep becomes valid.
However, when user space subsequently issues the FUNCTIONFS_ENDPOINT_DESC
ioctl to query the endpoint descriptor, ffs_epfile_ioctl() selects the
descriptor index solely based on gadget->speed:
switch (epfile->ffs->gadget->speed) {
case USB_SPEED_SUPER:
case USB_SPEED_SUPER_PLUS:
desc_idx = 2;
break;
case USB_SPEED_HIGH:
desc_idx = 1;
break;
default:
desc_idx = 0;
}
desc = epfile->ep->descs[desc_idx];
memcpy(&desc1, desc, desc->bLength);
Because user space only supplied full-speed descriptors,
epfile->ep->descs[1] is NULL. Dereferencing desc->bLength triggers an
immediate kernel NULL pointer dereference panic.
Fix this by falling back through lower speed descriptors if the current
speed descriptor was not supplied, matching the fallback logic in
config_ep_by_speed() and historical f_fs behavior. If still missing,
fall back to epfile->ep->ep->desc (the active descriptor), and return
-EINVAL safely if no valid descriptor is found. In addition, mark desc
as const to match struct usb_ep::desc and avoid discarding qualifiers.

wake_work is armed from the gadget .wakeup callback to resume suspended
downstream ports, and it is never cancelled in ast_vhub_remove(), so a
work item queued before or during removal can run after devm has freed
vhub and its ports, a use-after-free.
Cancelling the work alone is not sufficient: usb_gadget_wakeup() takes
no lock and the unbind path never clears wakeup_en, so a remote-wakeup
request in flight on another CPU can re-arm the work after the cancel
and before vhub is freed.
ast_vhub_del_dev() already clears d->registered under vhub->lock before
unregistering the gadget. Refuse the wakeup in ast_vhub_udc_wakeup()
once d->registered is clear: the check and the schedule_work() are then
atomic against the unbind, so a wakeup that passed before the flag was
cleared is drained by the cancel_work_sync() after the del_dev loop,
and one that arrives later returns without arming. Also move INIT_WORK()
to the top of ast_vhub_probe(), since the probe error path reuses
ast_vhub_remove() and would otherwise cancel a never-initialized work
item.

SET_CONFIGURATION is handled asynchronously by the mass-storage thread.
A class request can arrive after the composite core selects the function
but before the thread installs common->fsg, or while the function is being
disabled.
fsg_setup() already rejects this state with -EOPNOTSUPP, but checking it
through fsg_is_set() also emits a warning. Check the active function
directly so normal requests during a configuration transition are rejected
without hiding fsg_is_set() warnings from other internal paths.

A SET_CONFIGURATION request that disables the current configuration, or a
disconnect, can abort a control transfer whose status stage was delayed by
a function driver. The asynchronous function work can nevertheless finish
later and call usb_composite_setup_continue() after reset_config() has

This is an expected consequence of aborting the old control transfer, and
does not require a kernel warning. Keep the diagnostic available under

The jack in/out descriptor arrays in struct f_midi2_usb_config have
the size of MAX_CABLES, which look reasonable -- but it turned out to
be incorrect. Namely, the entries for those arrays are added from
both inputs and outputs, hence for each loop cycle, it adds two, ended
up with as twice as the expected size. This inconsistency may result
in potential OOB when a large number of jacks are set up via configfs,
although the max number of cables (the loop count) is limited to
MAX_CABLES.
For addressing it, correct the jack_ins & jack_outs array sizes to

This catches both the set of kmalloc() uses added since the first

fsg_common_set_num_buffers()
Previously fsg_num_buffers_validate() was removed as it was not
necessary due to Kconfig setting the limits for n from 2 to 256 with
default as 2. However, setting the page content in such a way that
kstrtou8() reflects n value as either 0 or 1 bypasses these
restrictions leading to a null pointer dereference if n is 0. Fix
this by adding a check for n < 2 and returning -EINVAL if n is
either 0 or 1 consistent with Kconfig logic.

gadget_dev_ioctl() reads dev->gadget before acquiring dev->lock, but
dev->state is checked after acquiring the lock. Therefore a concurrent
bind can change the device state between these operations, which can
leave ioctl with a stale NULL gadget pointer and causing a NULL pointer
dereference at gadget->ops->ioctl.
Read dev->gadget while holding dev->lock so that the gadget pointer
and device state are sampled consistently.

f_midi_alloc initializes free_ref to 1 and it can only be incremented
when a sound card is registered via f_midi_register_card().
f_midi_register_card() is only called in f_midi_bind() which actually
performs INIT_WORK. If f_midi_bind() is never run, work is not
initialized and the if condition in f_midi_free becomes true,
this results in a warning later in __flush_work as work->func = 0.
Fix this by moving INIT_WORK from f_midi_bind() to f_midi_alloc().

f_midi2_opts_str_show() takes the string lock internally, but its
callers dereference the opts->info.<field> pointer before calling it,
outside the lock. This races with f_midi2_opts_str_store(), which
frees the old string under opts->lock when the attribute is written
concurrently, the show path can read a pointer that gets freed
before the lock inside str_show() is even taken.
Change f_midi2_opts_str_show() to take a pointer to the string field,
matching the existing pattern in f_midi2_opts_str_store(), and
dereference it only after the lock is held. Update all three callers
(iface_name, block name, and the EP string option macro) accordingly.

A null-pointer dereference occurs in f_midi2_free_ep_reqs() when attempting
to clean up an endpoint that was never initialized.
When configuring the MIDI 2.0 gadget via configfs and setting the block
direction to SNDRV_UMP_DIR_INPUT, the initialization of the midi1_ep_out
endpoint is explicitly skipped during the gadget bind phase
(f_midi2_bind()). As a result, the usb_ep->card field remains NULL.
Later, when the host sets the alternate setting, f_midi2_set_alt()
unconditionally stops both the IN and OUT endpoints by calling
f_midi2_stop_eps(), which in turn calls f_midi2_free_ep_reqs() for both
endpoints. When f_midi2_free_ep_reqs() is called for the uninitialized
midi1_ep_out, it attempts to dereference usb_ep->card to determine the
number of requests to free, leading to a crash.
Fix this by using usb_ep->num_reqs instead of usb_ep->card->info.num_reqs
in f_midi2_free_ep_reqs(). usb_ep->num_reqs is correctly set during
f_midi2_init_ep() and remains 0 if the endpoint was never initialized,
safely avoiding the loop. For consistency, apply the same change to
f_midi2_alloc_ep_reqs().

uvc_function_unbind()
In uvc_function_bind() error path, we use usb_ep_free_request which
uses uvc->control_req but does not set it to NULL afterwards. Thus,
uvc->control_req is a dangling pointer causing a UAF. Also we do not set
the uvc->control_buf pointer to NULL after freeing it, which is another
dangling pointer. Fix it by setting uvc->control_req to NULL after we run

g_audio_cleanup() invokes snd_card_free_when_closed() to initiate sound
card teardown and immediately frees the underlying struct snd_uac_chip
context. However, snd_card_free_when_closed() returns asynchronously
while ALSA control elements (kctls) remain open in userspace.
When userspace control applications access or close these open file
descriptors, kctl callbacks attempt to dereference kctl->private_data
pointing to &uac->c_prm or &uac->p_prm within the freed uac structure,
resulting in a use-after-free (UAF) memory corruption.
Fix this issue by deferring the destruction of struct snd_uac_chip until
all references to the ALSA sound card are released. Register a custom
card->private_free callback (u_audio_card_free) during g_audio_setup()
that frees uac and its associated playback/capture request and ring
buffers only when the sound card reference count drops to zero.

tcm_usbg_drop_nexus() permits session removal once tpg_port_count
reaches zero. However, usbg_port_unlink() currently decrements that
count from the fabric_pre_unlink() callback, before core_dev_del_lun()
waits for active se_lun references to drain.
If removal of the last LUN races a nexus removal, the latter can observe
a zero port count and call target_remove_session(). This frees
sess_cmd_map while an in-flight struct usbg_cmd, including its work item,
can still be accessed.
Overlapping the last-LUN unlink with nexus removal reproduces this
lifetime violation as a DEBUG_OBJECTS "free active" warning for
usbg_cmd_work, followed by a target-core BUG/Oops.
The generic target-core unlink path has no callback after
core_dev_del_lun() completes. Add an optional fabric_post_unlink()
callback and use it for the f_tcm port count. The count now remains
nonzero until core_dev_del_lun() has finished draining active LUN
references, preventing nexus removal from freeing the session during
command completion.

usbg_make_tpg() held dep_lock while calling
configfs_depend_item_unlocked(), which acquires the configfs root
inode lock when operating across subsystems. This creates a circular
lock dependency with configfs_rmdir():
dep_lock -> configfs root inode lock -> su_mutex -> dep_lock
In usbg_make_tpg(), dep_lock only serialized the read of opts->ready,
which is a monotonic flag that transitions from false to true exactly
once (in tcm_set_name()) and never reverts. Remove dep_lock from
usbg_make_tpg() entirely and use READ_ONCE/WRITE_ONCE to access
opts->ready locklessly instead.

In ffs_epfile_write_iter() and ffs_epfile_read_iter(), when ffs_epfile_io()
fails with an error other than -EIOCBQUEUED, the io_data structure (`p`) is
freed. However, for AIO operations, the kiocb cancel function was already
armed and kiocb->private was set to `p`.
If a concurrent cancel operation (such as sys_io_cancel()) executes after
ffs_epfile_io() fails but before the function frees `p`, a Use-After-Free
can occur when the cancellation handler accesses the freed pointer.
To securely fix this race condition, we must properly un-arm the
cancellation. Invoking `kiocb->ki_complete()` does exactly this by
acquiring `ctx->ctx_lock` and safely removing the kiocb from the active
sequence. In doing so, it ensures that a parallel io_cancel can no longer
discover the kiocb, effectively closing the race window.
We then return -EIOCBQUEUED to notify the VFS layer that the kiocb has been
consumed and it should avoid attempting to complete the request again or
triggering subsequent completion handlers.

Currently, ffs_ep0_read() holds ffs->mutex when it prepares to go to
sleep waiting for an event. When no setup events are pending, it calls
wait_event_interruptible_exclusive_locked_irq() with the mutex still
held. The wait macro deliberately drops the waitqueue spinlock before
sleeping but does not drop the mutex.
If a userspace daemon is polling ep0 via read() and the gadget is
asynchronously torn down via configfs (e.g., echo "" > UDC), a
deadlock can occur:
1. The configfs teardown calls functionfs_unbind(), which queues a
FUNCTIONFS_UNBIND event.
2. The daemon wakes up, consumes the event, and drops the mutex.
3. However, if the daemon loops and immediately issues another read()
before exiting, it reacquires ffs->mutex and again goes into an
interruptible sleep.
4. Meanwhile, functionfs_unbind() continues execution and attempts to
acquire ffs->mutex to tear down ep0req.
5. The kernel deadlocks because the configfs thread is stuck in an
uninterruptible sleep waiting for the mutex, while the userspace
daemon is in an interruptible sleep holding the mutex forever
because no more events will arrive.
To fix this, we drop both the waitqueue spinlock and ffs->mutex before
going to sleep, and use wait_event_interruptible_exclusive() instead.
Upon waking up, we jump back to the `retry` label to safely reacquire
the mutex and re-evaluate the state machine. By not sleeping with
ffs->mutex held, we natively decouple gadget teardowns (which require
the mutex) from userspace polling.

In polled-VBUS mode (board.vbus_pin && board.vbus_polled), probe arms a
self-restarting cycle: at91_vbus_timer() schedules vbus_timer_work, and
at91_vbus_timer_work() calls at91_vbus_update() and re-arms the timer via
mod_timer(). Both recover the same udc through container_of and dereference
it on every iteration.
Neither teardown path cancels this cycle. udc is devm-allocated, so it is
freed after at91udc_remove() returns, and is likewise freed when probe
fails and devres runs. A timer callback or work item that is pending or
running at either point dereferences the freed udc.
Add at91_udc_shutdown_vbus_timer() and call it from at91udc_remove() and
from the usb_add_gadget_udc() failure path in probe; the remaining probe
error paths fail before the timer is armed. timer_shutdown_sync() waits
for a running callback and clears timer->function, which makes the work
handler's mod_timer() a permanent no-op; cancel_work_sync() then drains
any pending or running work whose re-arm attempt now does nothing. The
timer must be shut down first, since cancelling the work alone would let
the timer re-queue it. The guard mirrors probe: in IRQ mode the timer and
work_struct are never initialized.
This does not require a fault; a normal driver unbind can interleave with
an already queued work item.
This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool.

However, during function teardown in f_midi2_free_inst() or EP cleanup

The variable ndp_index is declared as a signed integer, but it stores
the return value of get_ncm(), which is unsigned.
A malicious host can supply a large offset that overflows the signed
ndp_index, making it negative. Because ndp_index is compared against
unsigned bounds, this negative value bypasses sanity checks and leads
to an out-of-bounds read when calculating the address of the NDP
