Sashiko asked during a patch review if the existing usage pattern had a
race condition; specifically in of_phy_get() if it was possible between
returning from _of_phy_get() and running try_module_get() that a module
might be unbound leading to use-after-free.
Looking at the code this appears to be so, there is no linkage between the
phy and module under a synchronisation primitive.
Using the phy_provider_mutex in phy_get() will ensure there is a link between
the returned phy pointer and the module_get() bumping the module reference
count.
Amend phy_get(), of_phy_get() and devm_of_phy_get_by_index() to fix the
same usage pattern.
phy_provider_unregister() must take the phy_provider_mutex so amending
phy_get()/of_phy_get() to take that same mutex guarantees there is no
use-after-free.

Add a new MIPI CSI2 driver in DPHY mode initially. The entire set of
existing CAMSS CSI PHY init sequences are imported in order to save time
and effort in later patches.
The following devices are supported in this drop:
"qcom,x1e80100-csi2-phy"
In-line with other PHY drivers the process node is included in the name.
Data-lane and clock lane positioning and polarity selection via newly
amended struct phy_configure_opts_mipi_dphy{} is supported.
The Qualcomm 3PH class of PHYs can do both DPHY and CPHY mode. For now only
DPHY is supported.
In porting some of the logic over from camss-csiphy*.c to here its also
possible to rationalise some of the code.
In particular use of regulator_bulk and clk_bulk as well as dropping the
seemingly useless and unused interrupt handler.
The PHY sequences and a lot of the logic that goes with them are well
proven in CAMSS and mature so the main thing to watch out for here is how
to get the right sequencing of regulators, clocks and register-writes.
The register init sequence table is imported verbatim from the existing
CAMSS csiphy driver. A follow-up series will rework the table to extract
the repetitive per-lane pattern into a loop.

Building arm/arm64/i386 allmodconfig with clang fails:
drivers/phy/mediatek/phy-mtk-dp.c:761:18: error: incompatible pointer

an expression of type 'const u16[4]' [-Wint-conversion]
drivers/phy/mediatek/phy-mtk-dp.c:761:18: error: initializer element
is not a compile-time constant
drivers/phy/mediatek/phy-mtk-dp.c:761:18: error: suggest braces around
initialization of subobject [-Werror,-Wmissing-braces]
14 errors in total, one set per offending member.
off_ana_lane, off_dig_lane and driving_params are declared as arrays in
struct mtk_dp_phy_pdata:
u16 off_ana_lane[MTK_DP_PHY_MAX_LANES];
u16 off_dig_lane[MTK_DP_PHY_MAX_LANES];
u32 driving_params[PHYD_DIG_NUM_DRV_PARA_REGS];
but the SoC data instances initialize them with compound literals. A
compound literal is an object, not an initializer list, so this is not
an array initializer: the member is initialized element-wise from a
scalar, the first element gets the address of the literal truncated to
u16/u32, and the remaining elements are zeroed. Hence the three
diagnostics above - the pointer-to-integer conversion, the address not
being a compile-time constant, and the missing braces.
Arrays are the right type here, since both members are indexed per lane
and driving_params is sized with ARRAY_SIZE(), so drop the casts and use
plain braced initializers.

Some Combo PHYs (so far only on SC8280XP, X1E80100 and Glymur), come in
a flavor called USB43DP, which as the name implies, features USB4, USB3
and DP signal processing capabilities. In that architecture, USB3 and
USB4 PHYs share the same USB_PLL while featuring separate logic spaces.
The DP part is roughly the same as on the instances without USB4.
The USB4 and USB3/DP operation modes of the PHY are mutually exclusive.
Only one USB protocol (and flavor of pipe clock) can be active at a
given moment (not to be confused with USB3 not being able to be
tunneled as USB4 packets - that of course remains possible).
The DP PLL is still used for clocking tunneled DP links. It may be
turned off to save power when no tunnels are active, but that's left as
a TODO item for now.
Due to the nature of USB4, the Type-C handling happens entirely inside
the Host Router, and as such the QMPPHY's mux_set() function is
nullified for the period when USB4 PHY remains active. This is strictly
necessary, as the Host Router driver is going to exercise manual
control over the USB4 PHY's power state, which is needed by the suspend
and resume flows. Failure to control that synchronously with other
parts of the code results in a SoC crash by unlocked access.
Because of that, a new struct phy is spawned to expose the USB4 mode,
along with a .set_mode callback to allow toggling between USB4 and TBT3
submodes.
Thunderbolt 3, having a number of differences vs USB4, requires a
couple specific overrides, pertaining to electrical characteristics,
which are easily accommodated for.

stf_dphy_hw_reset() polls the DPHY PLL unlock bit when bringing the PHY
out of reset, but only logs a timeout. stf_dphy_init() then continues
and returns success even though the PHY lock condition was not observed.
Return the poll error from the reset helper and propagate it from the PHY
init path. Also make the timeout message describe the failed lock
condition.

The GS101 PIPE3 initialization checks the PMA PLL lock and then checks
the CDR lock. The PLL helper returns an error, but the GS101 PIPE3 init
path dropped that result. The CDR helper only logged a timeout. PHY
initialization could therefore still return success after either the PLL
or the selected receive lane had not locked.
Make the in-file SoC-specific phy_init hook return an int so helpers
with real failure results can propagate them through the existing PHY
init paths. Keep the register-only helpers returning success and use the
new return path to report the GS101 CDR wait failure. Other SoC helper
paths keep their previous success behavior.

writing to the register while determining the parent clock index. This
unintended register access forces the PHY back into training mode. If

In preparation for adding support for newer SoCs and for adding
more capabilities to this driver in an efficient manner, migrate
all of the hardcoded register offsets to SoC specific pdata and
assign that for both DT and platform probing.
While at it also cleanup writing the driving parameters to the PHY
by iterating through all lanes with a loop instead: note that for
that to happen the default 0/1/2 driving parameters were added,
those are really just zero.

Make it possible to decouple the registration of the DisplayPort
PHY driver from the DisplayPort IP driver by adding a devicetree
match to probe the PHY, registering an OF PHY provider and this
device's own MMIO regmap - if, and only if, this PHY driver was
registered with an OF match.
In order to retain compatibility with older devicetrees that are
not declaring the DisplayPort PHY as a separate node, the legacy
code was moved in a `mtk_dp_phy_legacy_probe()` function, which
gets called if the driver was registered by the DisplayPort one.

The comment in the mtk_phy_tmds_clk_ratio() function clearly and
correctly explains that the TMDS ratio has to be 1/10 for data
rates under 3.4Gbps, and 1/40 over that.
Unfortunately though, the TXC_DIV register setting was wrong, as
in value 3 means to divide by 8 and, in order to achieve the in
spec 1/40 (tmds) data rate, this has to divide by 4 instead!
Add definitions for the TXC_DIV register values clearly explaining
the meanings (DIV2, DIV4, DIV8), and program the correct, DIV 4,
value to the register in mtk_phy_tmds_clk_ratio().
This fixes out of spec clocking and, with this change, SoCs using
the MT8195 class HDMI PHYs can now successfully be configured to
output 3840x2160@60Hz over HDMI.

The OTG PHY initialization sequence needs to wait for 20 ms at a specific
step, as described in commit 72c0339c115b ("phy: renesas:
rcar-gen3-usb2: follow the hardware manual procedure").
Commit 55a387ebb921 ("phy: renesas: rcar-gen3-usb2: Lock around hardware
registers and driver data") tried to address various problems in the
rcar-gen3-usb2 driver and converted the mutex protecting HW register
accesses to a spin lock, leaving, however, a long delay in the critical
section protected by the spin lock. This may become a problem,
especially on RT kernels.
To address this, release the spin lock before sleeping for 20 ms as
required by the HW manual and reacquire it afterwards. To avoid other
threads entering the critical section and configuring the HW while the
software is waiting for the OTG initialization to complete, introduce the
otg_initializing variable alongside the otg_init_done wait queue. Any
other thread trying to configure the HW while the OTG PHY initialization
is in progress waits for the wait queue instead of immediately returning
errors to PHY users. The IRQs were also disabled while waiting for the OTG
PHY initialization to complete, as the interrupt handler may also apply HW
settings.
The OTG can only be initialized once. It is initialized by the first PHY
that calls struct phy_ops::rcar_gen3_phy_usb2_init().
To avoid failures when multiple PHYs call struct
phy_ops::rcar_gen3_phy_usb2_init() simultaneously, and the PHY responsible
for initializing the OTG either fails or deinit quiqly and another PHY
takes over the PHY init role), the code waiting for the
channel->otg_init_done wait queue retries up to NUM_OF_PHYS times.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/clk/linux
Pull clk updates from Stephen Boyd:
"Mostly the usual clk driver updates and new SoC additions plus
non-critical data fixes for things that weren't used yet.
One thing that's new here in the core is SSC spread spectrum support
(SSC) in the clk provider API. The idea is that DT authors will
configure SSC for certain clks and they'll be configured at clk
provider registration time or when a consumer device is probed,
similar to how we handle assigned clk rates or parents.
On the clk driver side we have Qualcomm adding almost half the diff
because they add support for 4 different SoCs and then a long tail of
other SoCs like Mediatek, Renesas, Rockchip, SpaceMiT, etc. add more
SoC support this time around. Luckily it's mostly clk data for these
new SoCs because the actual clk_ops are already there. Beyond the new
drivers we get all the little fixups for more compilation coverage or
usage of more modern APIs. That all looks normal.
Finally, I kinda buried the lede, I'm bringing on Brian and Jerome to
help out with maintaining the clk subsystem. The current working model
is already semi-distributed in that silicon vendors typically take
care of their drivers and send me pull requests but I'm becoming a
bottleneck for new drivers and core framework review because this has
become a 100% volunteer effort on my part.
Mike is stepping down after all these years (thanks Mike!) and that
jump started the conversation around finding co-maintainers. Brian and
Jerome have graciously offered to help me with the work load, meaning
in the future they'll be sending pull requests and committing directly
to the clk.git tree. They've both been around on the list for a while,
I've met them both in person, and they've been making changes to the
core clk framework along with helping review patches so I'm pretty
confident this will work well.

Nothing in suspend.h needs swap.h. However, many files indirectly
depend on some of swap.h's dependencies, so this is a large
cross-subsystem patch. Stats:
42 are missing includes of interrupt.h (the question of why swap.h
brings in interrupt.h remains unanswered).
10 missing includes of seq_file.h
5 missing includes of swap.h (obviously all files could have just added
swap.h, but I preferred to bring in a more minimal inclusion set)
3 missing includes of highmem.h
2 missing includes of device.h
2 missing includes of string_choices.h
1 missing include of cacheflush.h
1 missing include of dma-direction.h
1 missing include of kthread.h
1 missing include of pagemap.h
1 missing include of string_helpers.h
1 missing include of writeback.h
I tried to follow whatever conventions appeared to be in use for the
various subsystems I touched; for example I added string_choices.h to
drm_print.h instead of individually to each driver which used the
functions declared there.

The PHY register block is 64KB, so with a register stride of 4 the
last accessible register sits at offset 0xfffc. max_register names
0x10000, one register past the end of the mapping: dumping the
registers through the regmap debugfs interface reads beyond the
ioremapped region and oopses on the unmapped page. The oops fires
with the regmap lock held, so later PHY operations deadlock.

Some QMP PCIe PHY hardware blocks support multiple link topologies (e.g.
x8 or x4+x4) selected via a TCSR register. The existing single-instance
QMP PCIe PHY driver has no way to model this: it assumes a single cfg per
DT node and instantiates exactly one PHY.
Add a dedicated driver for this class of PHY. Match data carries a
per-mode cfg table; qmp_pcie_multiphy_probe() reads the current link
mode from the TCSR register pointed to by "qcom,link-mode", looks up the
corresponding cfg array, and instantiates one qmp_pcie per sub-PHY
required by that link mode, registering the clock and #phy-cells = <1> phy
providers so consumers can address individual sub-PHYs by index.
The driver inherits the phy setting and link-mode programmed by firmware,
so only the no_csr reset is used and no phy setting tables are provided.
Add the first match data and compatible, qcom,glymur-qmp-gen5x8-pcie-phy,
for the Glymur Gen5 PCIe PHY that can bifurcate into two x4 links or
operate as a single x8 link.
