31 hoursnet: pcs: xpcs: add Rockchip RK3568 platform glue driverCoia Prant
The RK3568 SoC integrates a Synopsys DesignWare XPCS that is accessed via APB3 memory-mapped registers. This driver provides the glue logic to make the XPCS accessible to the generic pcs-xpcs core. The XPCS block contains four MII ports (0..3). On RK3568 the MII port used by SGMII follows the MAC it is routed to: GMAC0 maps to port 0 and GMAC1 maps to port 1. The glue driver receives the port index from the MAC side and passes it to xpcs_create_mdiodev(). The hardware maps these ports to different MMDs: - port 0: MMD 7 (ROCKCHIP_MMD_MII) - port 1: MMD 2 (ROCKCHIP_MMD_MII1) - port 2: MMD 3 (ROCKCHIP_MMD_MII2) - port 3: MMD 4 (ROCKCHIP_MMD_MII3) This driver creates a virtual MDIO bus that translates MDIO operations to APB3 register accesses, with proper address remapping for each port. The generic xpcs driver then creates a phylink_pcs instance on top of this bus, allowing the MAC to use the PCS via the standard phylink API. The generic XPCS platform glue (pcs-xpcs-plat.o) is split out of the pcs_xpcs composite object into its own module, gated behind the new PCS_XPCS_PLATFORM symbol. There is no in-tree user of the generic snps,dw-xpcs glue that would need it selected by default, so the symbol has no default and platforms that need it select it explicitly. PCS_XPCS_ROCKCHIP selects GENERIC_PHY and PM_GENERIC_DOMAINS. ARCH_ROCKCHIP already selects PM, so the dependency of PM_GENERIC_DOMAINS on PM is satisfied on the target platform. The EEE multiplier is derived at runtime from the EEE clock rate instead of being hardcoded, because the clock is muxed between gpll200 (200 MHz) and cpll125 (125 MHz) and can be changed by the board or firmware. A 64-bit intermediate avoids overflow on 32-bit builds, and the result is clamped to the 4-bit DW_VR_MII_EEE_MULT_FACT_100NS field. Power management ================ The XPCS, its SerDes PHY and the SATA/PCIe controllers share the PD_PIPE power domain on RK3568. genpd powers the domain down during system suspend once every consumer is suspended, which also kills the SerDes and the XPCS. Boards that rely on MAC WoL need the PCS and SerDes alive to receive magic packets, so PD_PIPE must stay powered across system suspend. Keep it on by marking the XPCS as part of the wakeup path via device_set_wakeup_path(). genpd then leaves the domain powered, because the Rockchip power domain driver sets GENPD_FLAG_ACTIVE_WAKEUP on PD_PIPE, which makes genpd check the wakeup path of its consumers during system suspend. This is unconditional because the XPCS core currently has no platform callback through which a consumer could convey the MAC WoL state, and the state itself is dynamic: WoL is toggled at runtime via ethtool, so a static DT property cannot express it either. The affected hardware is limited to RK3568 boards using SGMII, which are always-on routers where system suspend is not a realistic use case; the extra power draw is therefore acceptable. Runtime PM is unaffected: the runtime callbacks only gate the CSR clock, and dev_pm_genpd_rpm_always_on() already keeps PD_PIPE on at runtime. 31 hoursnet: pcs: xpcs: add ANRESTART support for SGMII link recoveryCoia Prant
On some hardware using the DesignWare XPCS IP (e.g., RK3568 MAC side SGMII), the PCS does not automatically restart auto-negotiation when the link goes down and comes back up. Without an explicit ANRESTART, the link stays down forever. Add BMCR_ANRESTART in two places: 1. In xpcs_config_aneg_c37_sgmii(), when starting AN, set ANRESTART alongside ANENABLE to initiate a fresh negotiation. 2. In xpcs_get_state_c37_sgmii(), when link is down and AN completion is detected, clear the interrupt and trigger ANRESTART to restart the negotiation process. Propagate the return value of the restart so errors are not silently ignored. The restart cannot go through the .pcs_an_restart op: phylink only calls it for 802.3z interfaces, and SGMII is not one. Changing hardware state from pcs_get_state() is already done elsewhere in this driver (xpcs_get_state_c73() calls xpcs_soft_reset() and xpcs_do_config()), so the same pattern is used here. The latch is cleared before issuing the restart, not after: clearing it afterwards would discard a freshly latched ANCMPLT from the new negotiation. If an MDIO access fails at this point, it indicates an unrecoverable hardware condition until reset. Also clear DW_VR_MII_AN_INTR_STS in xpcs_config_aneg_c37_sgmii() before starting AN, matching what xpcs_config_aneg_c37_1000basex() already does. On the non-inband path the function now returns the result of that write instead of the DIG_CTRL1 modify. Update the comment in xpcs_config_aneg_c37_sgmii() to note that although the DesignWare databook says AN restart is not needed for MAC side SGMII, some implementations (e.g. Rockchip RK3568) require it to recover the link after a disconnect. This is not a fix for an existing mainline platform: the affected platform (RK3568 XPCS) is introduced later in the same series. 2026-09-25net: pcs: lynx: enable autonegotiation for 10g-qxgmii and usxgmiiPatryk Biel
The Lynx PCS setup for 10g-qxgmii and usxgmii programs the USXGMII replicator advertisement, but does not explicitly enable and restart in-band autonegotiation or program the replicator link timers. This leaves the PCS dependent on firmware or bootloader state. Systems which do not get the USXGMII replicator preconfigured before Linux may therefore fail to negotiate the link correctly. After programming the USXGMII device ability, configure the replicator BMCR with reset, autonegotiation enable and autonegotiation restart. Also program the replicator link timer registers using the value returned by phylink_get_link_timer_ns(). 2026-09-22net: pcs: xpcs: fix clock reference leak on xpcs_init_clks failureCoia Prant
xpcs_init_clks() takes references with clk_bulk_get_optional() and then enables them with clk_bulk_prepare_enable(). If the enable step fails, the function returns without dropping the references. xpcs_create() handles the failure through out_free_data, which calls xpcs_free_data() but never xpcs_clear_clks(), so the clk references are leaked. Add the missing clk_bulk_put() on the enable failure path. The prepare/enable side is already rolled back by clk_bulk_prepare_enable() itself. 2026-09-02net: pcs: lynx: add support for 25GBASE-RVincent Jardin
The Lynx PCS never supported 25GBASE-R. Add it, so that a 25G DPMAC on LX2160A can be driven by phylink. The SerDes side had the mode since the commit 1cab8fba5073 ("phy: lynx-28g: add support for 25GBASER") and dpaa2-mac maps DPMAC_ETH_IF_CAUI to PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_25GBASER, but the PCS never handled it, so phylink_validate() failed with the interface. 25GBASE-R is a serial mode without clause-37 in-band autonegotiation, exactly like 10GBASE-R: it does not needs any configuration, its state is read with phylink_mii_c45_pcs_get_state(), and it reports LINK_INBAND_DISABLE. phylink_mii_c45_pcs_get_state() is extended in the same patch because without it the link comes up reporting Unknown/Unknown. 2026-08-07net: pcs: mtk-lynxi: check regmap reads in mtk_pcs_lynxi_get_state()Daniel Golle
mtk_pcs_lynxi_get_state() ignores regmap_read()'s return value; a failed read leaves bm and adv holding uninitialized stack values which are then decoded into the reported link state. The regmaps backing the MT7531 SGMII PCS instances sit on an MDIO bus where reads can fail. Check both reads and report the link as down on error; phylink presets state->link before the callback, so a bare return would leave a failed read reported as link-up. 2026-07-23net: pcs: xpcs: fix SGMII state readingCoia Prant
Commit 2a22b7ae2fa3 ("net: pcs: xpcs: adapt Wangxun NICs for SGMII mode") added a path in xpcs_get_state_c37_sgmii() that reads speed/duplex from BMCR after AN completes. However, BMCR does not reflect the negotiated result on the hardware where this has been tested: - On RK3568 (MAC side SGMII), BMCR returns a fixed hardware reset value - Wangxun engineer Jiawen Wu confirmed that on their side, "BMCR looks like it only wants to be return as 0" [0] The correct information is available in CL37_ANSGM_STS, which contains the actual link status and negotiated speed/duplex. This bug was previously masked by phylink core, which overrides the PCS link state with the PHY state when a PHY is present: /* If we have a phy, the "up" state is the union of both the * PHY and the MAC */ if (phy) link_state.link &= pl->phy_state.link; Thus, when the link is down, the PHY's link_down state is applied on top of whatever the PCS reports, hiding the broken PCS state reading path. Modify xpcs_get_state_c37_sgmii() to: 1. Read link state from CL37_ANSGM_STS 2. If link is up, report speed/duplex from CL37_ANSGM_STS 3. Remove the broken BMCR reading path entirely Also properly set state->an_complete to reflect the AN completion status, and clear CL37_ANCMPLT_INTR when link is down to avoid stale state. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

It turns out that 2500Base-X actually works fine with in-band status on MediaTek's LynxI PCS -- I wrongly concluded it didn't because it is broken in all the copper SFP modules and GPON sticks I used for testing. Hence report LINK_INBAND_ENABLE also for 2500Base-X mode. This reverts most of commit a003c38d9bbb ("net: pcs: pcs-mtk-lynxi: correctly report in-band status capabilities"). The removal of the QSGMII interface mode was correct and is left untouched. We use the vendor specific ones as fallback if the standard description doesn't exist. Daniel, referring to the Mediatek SDK, clarifies that the combined SGMII_PN_SWAP_TX_RX register field should be split like this: bit 0 is TX and bit 1 is RX: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-phy/aSW--slbJWpXK0nv@makrotopia.org/ Suggested-by: Daniel Golle <daniel@makrotopia.org> Signed-off-by: Vladimir Oltean <vladimir.oltean@nxp.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260119091220.1493761-6-vladimir.oltean@nxp.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
2026-01-21net: pcs: pcs-mtk-lynxi: pass SGMIISYS OF node to PCSVladimir Oltean
The Mediatek LynxI PCS is used from the MT7530 DSA driver (where it does not have an OF presence) and from mtk_eth_soc, where it does (Documentation/devicetree/bindings/net/pcs/mediatek,sgmiisys.yaml informs of a combined clock provider + SGMII PCS "SGMIISYS" syscon block). Currently, mtk_eth_soc parses the SGMIISYS OF node for the "mediatek, pnswap" property and sets a bit in the "flags" argument of mtk_pcs_lynxi_create() if set. I'd like to deprecate "mediatek, pnswap" in favour of a property which takes the current phy-mode into consideration. But this is only known at mtk_pcs_lynxi_config() time, and not known at mtk_pcs_lynxi_create(), when the SGMIISYS OF node is parsed. To achieve that, we must pass the OF node of the PCS, if it exists, to mtk_pcs_lynxi_create(), and let the PCS take a reference on it and handle property parsing whenever it wants. Use the fwnode API which is more general than OF (in case we ever need to describe the PCS using some other format). This API should be NULL tolerant, so add no particular tests for the mt7530 case. 2026-01-17net: pcs: rzn1-miic: Add PHY_LINK active-level configuration supportLad Prabhakar
Add support to configure the active level of MIIC PHY_LINK status signals on a per-converter basis using a DT property. MIIC provides dedicated PHY_LINK signals that indicate EtherPHY link-up and link-down status in hardware. These signals are required regardless of whether GMAC or ETHSW is used. With GMAC, link state is retrieved via MDC/MDIO and handled in software, while ETHSW relies on PHY_LINK pins for both CPU-assisted operation and switch-only data paths that do not involve the host. Hardware PHY_LINK signals are also critical for fast reaction to link-down events, for example when running redundancy protocols such as Device Level Ring (DLR), where rapid detection of cable faults is required to switch to an alternate path without software latency. Parse the requested polarity from DT, accumulate the configuration during probing, and apply it to the MIIC_PHY_LINK register once hardware initialization is complete, when the registers can be safely modified. Handle SoC-specific bit layout differences between RZ/N1 and RZ/T2H/N2H within the driver. 2025-12-01net: pcs: lynx: accept in-band autoneg for 2500base-xVladimir Oltean
Testing in two circumstances: 1. back to back optical SFP+ connection between two LS1028A-QDS ports with the SCH-26908 riser card 2. T1042 with on-board AQR115 PHY using "OCSGMII", as per https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/aIuEvaSCIQdJWcZx@FUE-ALEWI-WINX/ strongly suggests that enabling in-band auto-negotiation is actually possible when the lane baud rate is 3.125 Gbps. It was previously thought that this would not be the case, because it was only tested on 2500base-x links with on-board Aquantia PHYs, where it was noticed that MII_LPA is always reported as zero, and it was thought that this is because of the PCS. Test case #1 above shows it is not, and the configured MII_ADVERTISE on system A ends up in the MII_LPA on system B, when in 2500base-x mode (IF_MODE=0). Test case #2, which uses "SGMII" auto-negotiation (IF_MODE=3) for the 3.125 Gbps lane, is actually a misconfiguration, but it is what led to the discovery. There is actually an old bug in the Lynx PCS driver - it expects all register values to contain their default out-of-reset values, as if the PCS were initialized by the Reset Configuration Word (RCW) settings. There are 2 cases in which this is problematic: - if the bootloader (or previous kexec-enabled Linux) wrote a different IF_MODE value - if dynamically changing the SerDes protocol from 1000base-x to 2500base-x, e.g. by replacing the optical SFP module. Specifically in test case #2, an accidental alignment between the bootloader configuring the PCS to expect SGMII in-band code words, and the AQR115 PHY actually transmitting SGMII in-band code words when operating in the "OCSGMII" system interface protocol, led to the PCS transmitting replicated symbols at 3.125 Gbps baud rate. This could only have happened if the PCS saw and reacted to the SGMII code words in the first place. Since test #2 is invalid from a protocol perspective (there seems to be no standard way of negotiating the data rate of 2500 Mbps with SGMII, and the lower data rates should remain 10/100/1000), in-band auto-negotiation for 2500base-x effectively means Clause 37 (i.e. IF_MODE=0). Make 2500base-x be treated like 1000base-x in this regard, by removing all prior limitations and calling lynx_pcs_config_giga(). This adds a new feature: LINK_INBAND_ENABLE and at the same time fixes the Lynx PCS's long standing problem that the registers (specifically IF_MODE, but others could be misconfigured as well) are not written by the driver to the known valid values for 2500base-x. 2025-11-27net: pcs: xpcs: Add support for FBNIC 25G, 50G, 100G PMDAlexander Duyck
The fbnic driver is planning to make use of the XPCS driver to enable support for PCS and better integration with phylink. To do this though we will need to enable several workarounds since the PMD interface for fbnic is likely to be unique since it is a mix of two different vendor products with a unique wrapper around the IP. I have generated a PHY identifier based on IEEE 802.3-2022 22.2.4.3.1 using an OUI belonging to Meta Platforms and used with our NICs. Using this we will provide it as the PMD ID via the SW based MDIO interface so that the fbnic device can be identified and necessary workarounds enabled in the XPCS driver. As an initial workaround this change adds an exception so that soft_reset is not set when the driver is initially bound to the PCS. In addition I have added logic to integrate the PMD Rx signal detect state into the link state for the PCS. With this we can avoid the link coming up too soon on the FBNIC PMD and as a result of it being in the training state so we can avoid link flaps. 2025-11-27net: pcs: xpcs: Fix PMA identifier handling in XPCSAlexander Duyck
The XPCS driver was mangling the PMA identifier as the original code appears to have been focused on just capturing the OUI. Rather than store a mangled ID it is better to work with the actual PMA ID and instead just mask out the values that don't apply rather than shifting them and reordering them as you still don't get the original OUI for the NIC without having to bitswap the values as per the definition of the layout in IEEE 802.3-2022 22.2.4.3.1. By laying it out as it was in the hardware it is also less likely for us to have an unintentional collision as the enum values will occupy the revision number area while the OUI occupies the upper 22 bits. 2025-09-15net: pcs: rzn1-miic: Add per-SoC control for MIIC register unlock/lockLad Prabhakar
Make MIIC accessory register unlock/lock behaviour selectable via SoC/OF data. Add init_unlock_lock_regs and miic_write to struct miic_of_data so the driver can either perform the traditional global unlock sequence (as used on RZ/N1) or use a different policy for other SoCs (for example RZ/T2H, which does not require leaving registers unlocked). miic_reg_writel() now calls the per-SoC miic_write callback to perform register writes. Provide miic_reg_writel_unlocked() as the default writer and set it for the RZ/N1 OF data so existing platforms keep the same behaviour. Add a miic_unlock_regs() helper that implements the accessory register unlock sequence so the unlock/lock sequence can be reused where needed (for example when a SoC requires explicit unlock/lock around individual accesses). According to the R-IN Engine and Ethernet Peripherals Manual (Rev.1.30) [0], Table 10.1 "Ethernet Accessory Register List", MODCTRL is at offset 0x8, not 0x20 as previously defined. Offset 0x20 actually maps to the Port Trigger Control Register (PTCTRL), which controls PTP_MODE[3:0] and RGMII_CLKSEL[4]. Using this incorrect definition prevented the driver from configuring the SW_MODE[4:0] bits in MODCTRL, which control the internal connection of Ethernet ports. The xpcs_switch_interface_mode function was introduced to handle interface switching. According to the XPCS datasheet, a soft reset is required to initiate Clause 37 auto-negotiation when the XPCS switches interface modes. When the interface mode switches from 2500BASE-X to SGMII, re-initiating Clause 37 auto-negotiation is required for the SGMII interface mode to function properly. 2025-02-14net: remove phylink_pcs .neg_mode booleanRussell King (Oracle)
As all PCS are using the neg_mode parameter rather than the legacy an_mode, remove the ability to use the legacy an_mode. We remove the tests in the phylink code, unconditionally passing the PCS neg_mode parameter to PCS methods, and remove setting the flag from drivers. 2025-02-14net: xpcs: clean up xpcs_config_eee()Russell King (Oracle)
There is now no need to pass the mult_fact into xpcs_config_eee(), so let's remove that argument and use xpcs->eee_mult_fact directly. While changing the function signature, as we pass true/false for enable, use "bool" instead of "int" for this.
