The netevent notifier handles neighbour updates and redirects by queuing nfp_tun_neigh_update() on system_highpri_wq. Each work item holds a reference to the neighbour, but only stores a pointer to the flower app. During device removal, nfp_tunnel_config_stop() unregisters the notifier. This waits for notifier callbacks to return, but does not wait for the work they queued. The teardown then frees app->priv and app without waiting for these work items. Flushing cmsg_work in nfp_flower_clean() does not cover the neighbour update work. A pending work item can therefore run after the app has been freed. Its call to nfp_flower_get_port_id_from_netdev() can then access freed memory while checking whether the neighbour's device can be offloaded. Even notifications for unrelated devices can reach this check. The same problem affects shutdown and probe error paths that tear down the app after the netevent notifier has been registered. One possible interleaving is shown below. The neighbour belongs to another network device that remains registered. CPU0 (remove) CPU1 (notifier / kworker) nfp_tun_neigh_event_handler() queue_work(system_highpri_wq, ...) return /* Work has not run yet. */ nfp_tunnel_config_stop() unregister_netevent_notifier() /* Notifier callbacks have finished, but work may be pending. */ nfp_flower_clean() vfree(app->priv) app->priv = NULL nfp_app_free() kfree(app) nfp_tun_neigh_update() app = update_work->app nfp_flower_get_port_id_from_netdev() app->priv /* use-after-free */ The work items are allocated per event and free themselves, so they cannot be cancelled individually, and flushing system_highpri_wq is not allowed. Use a dedicated workqueue for neighbour updates instead. In nfp_tunnel_config_stop(), unregister the notifier and destroy the workqueue before cleaning up the tunnel state. This prevents new work from being queued and waits for pending and running work to finish while the app and its resources are still valid. Found by code inspection. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next Pull bpf updates from Alexei Starovoitov: "Major changes: - Introduce scalar evolution (SCEV) analysis in the verifier. It infers how registers and stack slots change in a loop and lets the verifier check bounded loops with induction variables as ranges instead of walking every iteration. The number of processed insns drops ten fold in programs with loops (Eduard Zingerman) - Add 'callx' instruction: indirect call of a static BPF subprogram. The address is taken with ld_imm64 or loaded from read-only data. Supported by x86-64, arm64 and riscv64 JITs (Alexei Starovoitov, Pu Lehui) - Add unwind_goto and unwind_exit instructions, so that Rust panic or C++ exception can run destructors of every frame it passes through. The normal path is free of unwind code. Supported by x86-64 and arm64 JITs (Alexei Starovoitov) - Support programs compiled by rust-bpf: treat load and store through a number as arena access with BPF_F_ARENA_SCALAR, accept rust names in BTF (Alexei Starovoitov) - Raise BPF program stack size from 512 bytes to 2 KiB on x86-64 and arm64 (Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi) - Support struct, union and __int128 up to 16 bytes passed and returned by value in BPF subprograms and kfuncs, and fix x86-64 and arm64 trampolines for such arguments (Yonghong Song) - Introduce a common way to attach struct_ops to a cgroup via bpf_link. bpf_tcp_ops is the first user and mirrors TCP sock_ops callbacks (Martin KaFai Lau, Amery Hung) - Describe inlined functions in BTF. 10 daysnet/dcb: Validate bandwidth for non-ETS traffic classesAlexei Lazar
The IEEE 802.1Qaz standard defines that bandwidth allocation percentages only apply to ETS traffic classes. Reject ETS configurations that specify non-zero bandwidth for non-ETS traffic classes. Placing this check in dcbnl_ieee_set() enforces the constraint uniformly for all drivers rather than relying on each driver to validate it independently. Drop the equivalent check from NFP's dcb_ets_check(). Keep ETS bandwidth-sum validation unchanged. 2026-10-07ipv6: Use ipv6_neigh_lookup() and friends.Kuniyuki Iwashima
syzbot reported the splat below in neigh_mark_dead() [0] where tbl->lock was not held while neigh_ifdown() should have acquired one. This only happens when a neigh_table accidentally has a neighbour from a different netns. In ip6_finish_output2(), the net argument is the caller's and does not always match dev_net(dev) fetched from dst. (e.g. xfrm) It is error-prone to require callers to fetch netns and neigh_table and pass it with dev to neigh_lookup(), etc. Let's replace neigh_lookup() and friends with IPv6 helpers. Note that __neigh_lookup() is split into ipv6_neigh_lookup() and ipv6_neigh_create(). 2026-10-05nfp: flower: remove merge entry when conntrack offload failsSang-Hoon Choi
nfp_ct_do_nft_merge() inserts nft_m_entry into nft_merge_tb and increments nft_merge_count before calling nfp_fl_ct_add_offload(). If that call fails, the error path removes the entry from its lists and frees it, but leaves the hash entry and count behind. 2026-09-24bpf: Add accessors for verifier stack slotsKumar Kartikeya Dwivedi
The verifier indexes a frame's stack state directly through state->stack[spi] and computes the number of tracked slots as allocated_stack / BPF_REG_SIZE in every file that touches stack slots, and so does the nfp offload driver. Route all of these through two helpers, bpf_stack_slot() and bpf_stack_nr_slots(), so the layout of the per-frame stack state is visible in one place. The one lookup that goes the other way, reg_to_target() in the diagnostics code, maps a register pointer back to its slot by address and now says that it relies on the slots forming one contiguous array. Both helpers take a const frame: the slot accessor returns the slot through the frame's stack pointer, so read-only code such as the state printer can use it without giving up its qualifiers. Functions that look up the same slot repeatedly now fetch it once. No functional change. 2026-09-24nfp: hold IPsec RX state under the XArray lockSang-Hoon Choi
nfp_net_ipsec_rx() drops the XArray lock before taking a reference to the xfrm_state it found. The delete path can erase the entry and drop the last state reference in that interval. RX can then try to increment a zero refcount after the state has been queued for destruction. The driver queues firmware invalidation asynchronously; the delete path does not wait for the command to complete or drain pending RX processing. The XFRM garbage collector waits for an RCU grace period before freeing the state. That delays reclamation but does not make acquiring a reference from zero valid. Take the xfrm_state reference before releasing the XArray lock so xa_erase() cannot run between lookup and reference acquisition. 2026-09-04eth: nfp: drop the replaced rule from the list when reprogramming failsJakub Kicinski
nfp_net_fs_add() replaces an existing rule by deleting it from the hardware, decrementing nn->fs.count and programming the new one. If nfp_net_fs_add_hw() fails the old entry stays on nn->fs.list - only the success path reaches list_replace() - so the list is one longer than nn->fs.count, and it advertises a rule whose hardware entry has already been torn down. nn->fs.count is what ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLCNT reports, so userspace then sizes its buffer one entry short of what the GRXCLSRLALL walk wants to write. That used to overwrite one u32 past the allocation; since the walk is bounded it is a permanent -EMSGSIZE instead, as nothing ever resyncs the counter. 2026-09-04eth: nfp: bound the ntuple rule dump by the caller's buffer sizeJakub Kicinski
nfp_net_get_fs_loc() dumps every entry of nn->fs.list into rule_locs[] without consulting cmd->rule_cnt, which is how many entries the caller had room for. ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL requires no CAP_NET_ADMIN and the ioctl sizes the buffer from the rule_cnt userspace passes in, so once an admin has installed flow steering rules any user can ask for fewer slots than there are rules and run off the end of the allocation. A rule_cnt of 0 leaves the buffer pointer NULL and the walk dereferences it. Bail out with -EMSGSIZE when the buffer fills up, the way the other ntuple capable drivers do, and report how many locations were filled so a shrinking rule list does not leave the caller reading stale slots. We will allocate per-netns neigh_table in net->neigh_tables[]. Let's replace &arp_tbl with arp_table(net) and remove extern definition for arp_tbl. Three notes: 1. mlx5e_rep_netevent_event() and nfp_tun_neigh_event_handler() have code assuming neigh_table other than &arp_tbl and &nb_tbl, and the part is removed as it will be false once per-netns table is allocated. 2. prestera and rocker uses init_net because they set dev->netns_immutable to true. 3. mlx5e_tc_update_neigh_used_value() dereferences nhe->neigh_dev in trace_mlx5e_tc_update_neigh_used_value(). 2026-07-21nfp: Check resource mutex allocationRuoyu Wang
nfp_cpp_resource_find() allocates a CPP mutex handle for the matching resource-table entry and then reports success. nfp_resource_try_acquire() immediately passes that handle to nfp_cpp_mutex_trylock(). However, nfp_cpp_mutex_alloc() returns NULL on failure. If that happens for a matching table entry, the resource lookup still returns success and the following trylock dereferences a NULL mutex pointer while opening the resource. nfp_resource_acquire() already treats failure to allocate the table mutex as -ENOMEM. Do the same for the resource mutex and fail the lookup before publishing the rest of the resource handle. This issue was found by a static analysis checker and confirmed by manual source review. 2026-05-25devlink: pass param values by pointerRatheesh Kannoth
union devlink_param_value grows substantially once U64 array parameters are added to devlink (from 32 bytes to over 264 bytes). devlink_nl_param_value_fill_one() and devlink_nl_param_value_put() copy the union by value in several places. Passing two instances as value arguments alone consumes over 528 bytes of stack; combined with deeper call chains the parameter stack can approach 800 bytes and trip CONFIG_FRAME_WARN more easily. 2026-05-12net: Consistently define pci_device_ids using named initializersUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)
... and PCI device helpers. The various struct pci_device_id arrays were initialized mostly by one the PCI_DEVICE macros and then list expressions. The latter isn't easily readable if you're not into PCI. Using named initializers is more explicit and thus easier to parse. Also use PCI_DEVICE* helper macros to assign .vendor, .device, .subvendor and .subdevice where appropriate and skip explicit assignments of 0 (which the compiler takes care of). The secret plan is to make struct pci_device_id::driver_data an anonymous union (similar to https://lore.kernel.org/all/cover.1776579304.git.u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com/) and that requires named initializers. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id arrays. Tested on x86 and arm64. 2026-04-23nfp: fix swapped arguments in nfp_encode_basic_qdr() callsAlexey Kodanev
There is a mismatch between the passed arguments and the actual nfp_encode_basic_qdr() function parameter names: static int nfp_encode_basic_qdr(u64 addr, int dest_island, int cpp_tgt, int mode, bool addr40, int isld1, int isld0) { ... But "dest_island" and "cpp_tgt" are swapped at every call-site. For example: return nfp_encode_basic_qdr(*addr, cpp_tgt, dest_island, mode, addr40, isld1, isld0); As a result, nfp_encode_basic_qdr() receives "dest_island" as CPP target type, which is always NFP_CPP_TARGET_QDR(2) for these calls, and "cpp_tgt" as the destination island ID, which can accidentally match or be outside the valid NFP_CPP_TARGET_* types (e.g. '-1' for any destination). Since code already worked for years, also add extra pr_warn() to error paths in nfp_encode_basic_qdr() to help identify any potential address verification failures. 2026-03-29ipv6: convert CONFIG_IPV6 to built-in only and clean up KconfigsFernando Fernandez Mancera
Maintaining a modular IPv6 stack offers image size savings for specific setups, this benefit is outweighed by the architectural burden it imposes on the subsystems on implementation and maintenance. Therefore, drop it. Change CONFIG_IPV6 from tristate to bool. Remove all Kconfig dependencies across the tree that explicitly checked for IPV6=m. In addition, remove MODULE_DESCRIPTION(), MODULE_ALIAS(), MODULE_AUTHOR() and MODULE_LICENSE(). This is also replacing module_init() by device_initcall(). It is not possible to use fs_initcall() as IPv4 does because that creates a race condition on IPv6 addrconf. Finally, modify the default configs from CONFIG_IPV6=m to CONFIG_IPV6=y except for m68k as according to the bloat-o-meter the image is increasing by 330KB~ and that isn't acceptable. Instead, disable IPv6 on this architecture by default. This is aligned with m68k RAM requirements and recommendations [1]. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) 2026-02-13nfp: bpf: remove references to bpf_reg_state->off for pointersEduard Zingerman
Previous commit changed BPF verifier to track pointer offsets entirely in bpf_reg_state->var_off. This commit removes references to bpf_reg_state->off in netronome code. - In most of the places `.off` field is used as a part of a sum: `reg->off + reg->var_off.value`. In such code the `reg->off` addend is removed. - Function jit.c:cross_mem_access() uses `.off` but ignores `.var_off` to compute memory access offset. Here access to `.off` is replaced with access to `.var_off.value`. verifier.c:nfp_bpf_check_ptr() rejects programs for which !tnum_is_const(reg->var_off), so the above change will read a valid constant. Not sure why `.var_off` was ignored in this function previously. This simplifies the RX path, the TX path and the NIC drivers, and is possible because user-space taps can now interpret correctly such packets without the HBH hint. - Allow IPv6 routes to be configured with a gateway address that is resolved out of a different interface than the one specified, aligning IPv6 to IPv4 behavior. - Multi-queue aware sch_cake. This makes it possible to scale the rate shaper of sch_cake across multiple CPUs, while still enforcing a single global rate on the interface. - Add support for the nbcon (new buffer console) infrastructure to netconsole, enabling lock-free, priority-based console operations that are safer in crash scenarios. - Improve the TCP ipv6 output path to cache the flow information, saving cpu cycles, reducing cache line misses and stack use. - Improve netfilter packet tracker to resolve clashes for most protocols, avoiding unneeded drops on rare occasions. - Add IP6IP6 tunneling acceleration to the flowtable infrastructure. - Reduce tcp socket size by one cache line. - Notify neighbour changes atomically, avoiding inconsistencies between the notification sequence and the actual states sequence. - Add vsock namespace support, allowing complete isolation of vsocks across different network namespaces. - Improve xsk generic performances with cache-alignment-oriented optimizations. - Support netconsole automatic target recovery, allowing netconsole to reestablish targets when underlying low-level interface comes back online. Driver API: - Support for switching the working mode (automatic vs manual) of a DPLL device via netlink. - Introduce PHY ports representation to expose multiple front-facing media ports over a single MAC. - Introduce "rx-polarity" and "tx-polarity" device tree properties, to generalize polarity inversion requirements for differential signaling. - Add helper to create, prepare and enable managed clocks. 2026-01-17nfp: tls: Avoid -Wflex-array-member-not-at-end warningsGustavo A. R. Silva
-Wflex-array-member-not-at-end was introduced in GCC-14, and we are getting ready to enable it, globally. So, in order to avoid ending up with flexible-array members in the middle of other structs, we use the `struct_group_tagged()` helper to separate the flexible array from the rest of the members in the flexible structure. We then use the newly created tagged `struct nfp_crypto_req_add_front_hdr` to replace the type of the objects causing trouble in a couple of structures. We also want to ensure that when new members need to be added to the flexible structure, they are always included within the newly created tagged struct. For this, we use `static_assert()`. This ensures that the memory layout for both the flexible structure and the new tagged struct is the same after any changes. Lastly, use container_of() to retrieve a pointer to the flexible structure and, through that, access the flexible-array member when needed. So, with these changes, fix the following warnings: drivers/net/ethernet/netronome/nfp/nfd3/../crypto/fw.h:58:41: warning: structure containing a flexible array member is not at the end of another structure [-Wflex-array-member-not-at-end] drivers/net/ethernet/netronome/nfp/nfd3/../crypto/fw.h:65:41: warning: structure containing a flexible array member is not at the end of another structure [-Wflex-array-member-not-at-end] Reviewed-by: Simon Horman <horms@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Gustavo A. 2025-09-29nfp: fix RSS hash key size when RSS is not supportedKohei Enju
The nfp_net_get_rxfh_key_size() function returns -EOPNOTSUPP when devices don't support RSS, and callers treat the negative value as a large positive value since the return type is u32. Return 0 when devices don't support RSS, aligning with the ethtool interface .get_rxfh_key_size() that requires returning 0 in such cases. 2025-09-22net: WQ_PERCPU added to alloc_workqueue usersMarco Crivellari
Currently if a user enqueue a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistentcy cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. alloc_workqueue() treats all queues as per-CPU by default, while unbound workqueues must opt-in via WQ_UNBOUND. This default is suboptimal: most workloads benefit from unbound queues, allowing the scheduler to place worker threads where they’re needed and reducing noise when CPUs are isolated. This change adds a new WQ_PERCPU flag at the network subsystem, to explicitly request the use of the per-CPU behavior. Both flags coexist for one release cycle to allow callers to transition their calls. Once migration is complete, WQ_UNBOUND can be removed and unbound will become the implicit default. With the introduction of the WQ_PERCPU flag (equivalent to !WQ_UNBOUND), any alloc_workqueue() caller that doesn’t explicitly specify WQ_UNBOUND must now use WQ_PERCPU. All existing users have been updated accordingly.
