The zero-copy path reads TX metadata whenever the UMEM has metadata space,
even if the descriptor does not set XDP_TX_METADATA. Pass descriptor
options through the metadata helpers and ignore metadata unless the option
is set.
This does not fix the existing per-WQE metadata handling for mlx5 MPWQEs.
Only the descriptor that starts a session passes through
xsk_tx_metadata_request() and configures offload state shared by the batch.
Metadata on descriptors joining an open session is therefore not validated
and does not configure its requested offloads. In addition, a non-NULL
metadata pointer from such a descriptor is treated as a timestamp
completion request even when XDP_TXMD_FLAGS_TIMESTAMP is not set, so its
metadata union can be overwritten with an unrequested timestamp. Fixing
mixed metadata states within one MPWQE requires a separate change.

Several fast-path and control-path lockless readers access dev->num_tc
(e.g., skb_tx_hash(), netdev_txq_to_tc(), netdev_get_num_tc(), and
qdisc/driver lookups) while concurrent writers update dev->num_tc
during TC setup, device reset, or channel configuration.
Add READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE() annotations to prevent compiler
reordering and load/store tearing when accessing dev->num_tc.
Update inline helpers in netdevice.h (netdev_get_num_tc(),
netdev_set_prio_tc_map(), and netdev_get_sb_channel()) as well as
writers and lockless readers in core networking code and drivers.

netdev_set_tc_queue() (and related helpers/drivers such as
netdev_bind_sb_channel_queue(), netdev_reset_tc(), and
netdev_unbind_sb_channel()) perform separate 16-bit writes to
dev->tc_to_txq[tc].count and dev->tc_to_txq[tc].offset.
Furthermore, memset() in netdev_reset_tc() and
netdev_unbind_sb_channel() provides no guarantee of performing
full 32-bit word stores.
Concurrent lockless readers (e.g. skb_tx_hash(), netdev_txq_to_tc(),
ixgbe_select_queue(), taprio, mqprio, FPE drivers) can observe torn
values where offset and count belong to inconsistent configurations.
Redefine struct netdev_tc_txq to embed count and offset inside a union
with a u32 combined field, allowing atomic manipulation via
READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE().
Update all lockless readers and writers across the kernel to use
READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE() on the combined field.

__igc_resume() calls netif_device_attach() only inside the
netif_running() branch, so an interface that was down during suspend
is never re-attached on resume. It then stays in the not-present state
that __igc_shutdown() set via netif_device_detach(): ethtool reports
ENODEV and every attempt to bring the interface up fails the
netif_device_present() check in __dev_open() with -ENODEV, silently,
since __igc_resume() returns 0. Only reloading the driver recovers the
device.
This is easy to hit in practice because NetworkManager brings managed
interfaces down before sleep unless Wake-on-LAN is configured, making
the adapter unusable after every suspend/resume cycle with WoL
disabled.
Re-attach the netdev on every successful resume, as igb and e1000e do.

The zero-copy path validates TX metadata while obtaining the descriptor
context, then reads it again later when preparing the hardware request.
User space can change the metadata between those operations and bypass the
original validation.
Validate the metadata in xsk_tx_metadata_request() and use the resulting
flags snapshot for every feature check. Read request fields once so all
zero-copy drivers process only values observed after successful
validation.

Completion handling needs to know whether a timestamp was requested when
the metadata was processed. Let xsk_tx_metadata_request() update the
caller's metadata pointer so that decision can be carried forward without

When an AF_XDP zero-copy application is killed abruptly, the XSK pool is
torn down but NAPI keeps polling. igc_clean_rx_irq_zc() then returns the
full budget on every poll, so napi_complete_done() never clears
NAPI_STATE_SCHED.
igc_down() calls napi_synchronize() before napi_disable(), so it spins
forever waiting for that bit and the interface never goes down. Drop the
napi_synchronize() and let napi_disable() do the job -- it sets
NAPI_STATE_DISABLE, which forces the stuck poll to complete. Reorder it
ahead of igc_set_queue_napi() so the NAPI mapping is cleared only after
polling has stopped, matching the recent igb fix b1e067240379.

autoneg_failed in struct igc_mac_info is never set in the igc driver.
Remove the field and the dead code checking it in

The field originates from the e1000/e1000e fiber/serdes forced-link

code to force pause. igc supports only copper, so it never needs to set

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next
Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
"Core & protocols:
- Work on removing rtnl_lock protection throughout the stack
continues. In this chapter:
- don't use rtnl_lock for IPv6 multicast routing configuration
- don't take rtnl_lock in ethtool for modern drivers
- prepare Qdisc dump callbacks for rtnl_lock removal
- Support dumping just ifindex + name of all interfaces, under RCU.
It's a common operation for Netlink CLI tools (when translating
names to ifindexes) and previously required full rtnl_lock.
- Support dumping qdiscs and page pools for a specific netdev. Even
tho user space wants a dump of all netdevs, most of the time, the
OOO programming model results in repeating the dump for each
netdev. Which, in absence of a cache, leads to a O(n^2) behavior.
- Flush nexthops once on multi-nexthop removal (e.g. when device goes
down), another O(n^2) -> O(n) improvement.
- Rehash locally generated traffic to a different nexthop on
retransmit timeout.
- Honor oif when choosing nexthop for locally generated IPv6 traffic.
- Convert TCP Auth Option to crypto library, and drop non-RFC algos.
- Increase subflow limits in MPTCP to 64 and endpoint limit to 256.
- Support MPTCP signaling of IPv6 address + port (ADD_ADDR). We need
to selectively skip reporting of the standard TCP Timestamp option,
because they won't fit into the header space together (12 + 30 >
40).
- Support using bridge neighbor suppression, Duplicate Address
Detection, Gratuitous ARP and unsolicited NA forwarding - in EVPN
deployments, e.g. VXLAN fabrics (IPv4 and IPv6).
- Improve link state reporting for upper netdevs (e.g. macvlan) over
tunnel devices (again, mostly for EVPN deployments).
- Support binding GENEVE tunnels to a local address.
- Speed up UDP tunnel destruction (remove one synchronize_rcu()).
- Support exponential field encoding in multicast (IGMPv3 and MLDv2).
- Support attaching PSP crypto offload to containers (veth, netkit).
- Add a new IPSec Netlink message XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE_STATE that allows
migrating individual IPsec SAs independently of their policies.
The existing XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE is tightly coupled to policy+SA
migration, lacks SPI for unique SA identification, and cannot
express reqid changes or migrate Transport mode selectors.
The new interface identifies the SA via SPI and mark, supports
reqid changes, address family changes, encap removal, and uses an
atomic create+install flow under x->lock to prevent SN/IV reuse
during AEAD SA migration.
- Implement GRO/GSO support for PPPoE.
- Convert sockopt callbacks in a number of protocols to iov_iter.
Cross-tree stuff:
- Remove support for Crypto TFM cloning (unblocked after the TCP Auth
Option rework). This feature regressed performance for all crypto
API users, since it changed crypto transformation objects into
reference-counted objects.
- Add FCrypt-PCBC implementation to rxrpc and remove it from the
global crypto API as obsolete and insecure.
Wireless:
- Major rework of station bandwidth handling, fixing issues with
lower capability than AP.
- Cleanups for EMLSR spec issues (drafts differed).
- More Neighbor Awareness Networking (Wi-Fi Aware) work (multicast,
schedule improvements, multi-station etc.)
- Some Ultra High Reliability (UHR) / IEEE 802.11bn (D1.4) work
(e.g. non-primary channel access, UHR DBE support).
- Fine Timing Measurement ranging (i.e. distance measurement) APIs.
Netfilter:
- Use per-rule hash initval in nf_conncount. This avoids unnecessary
lock contention with short keys (e.g. conntrack zones) in different
namespaces.
- Various safety improvements, both in packet parsing and object
lifetimes. Notably add refcounts to conntrack timeout policy.
Deletions:
- Remove TLS + sockmap integration. TLS wants to pin user pages to
avoid a copy, and sockmap wants to write to the input stream. More
work on this integration is clearly needed, and we can't find any
users (original author admitted that they never deployed it).
- Remove support for TLS offload with TCP Offload Engine (the far
more common opportunistic offload is retained). The locking looks
unfixable (driver sleeps under TCP spin locks) and people from the
vendor that added this are AWOL.
- Remove more ATM code, trying to leave behind only what PPPoATM
needs, AAL5 and br2684 with permanent circuits.
- Remove AppleTalk. Let it join hamradio in our out of tree protocol
graveyard, I mean, repository.
- Disable 32-bit x_tables compatibility (32bit binaries on 64bit
kernel) interface in user namespaces. To be deleted completely,
soon.
- Remove 5/10 MHz support from cfg80211/mac80211.
Drivers:
- Software:
- Support DEVMEM/DMABUF Tx over NETMEM_TX_NO_DMA devices (netkit)
- bonding: add knob to strictly follow 802.3ad for link state
- New drivers:
- Alibaba Elastic Ethernet Adaptor (cloud vNIC).
- NXP NETC switch within i.MX94.
- DPLL:
- Add operational state to pins (implement in zl3073x).
- Add generic DPLL type, for daisy-chaining DPLLs (implement in ice).
- Ethernet high-speed NICs:
- Huawei (hinic3):
- enhance tc flow offload support with queue selection,
tunnels
- nVidia/Mellanox:
- avoid over-copying payload to the skb's linear part (up to
60% win for LRO on slow CPUs like ARM64 V2)
- expose more per-queue stats over the standard API
- support additional, unprivileged PFs in the DPU
configuration
- support Socket Direct (multi-PF) with switchdev offloads
- add a pool / frag allocator for DMA mapped buffers for
control objects, save memory on systems with 64kB page size

gitolite.kernel.org:pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull timekeeping updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Updates for NTP/timekeeping and PTP:
- Expand timekeeping snapshot mechanisms
The various snapshot functions are mostly used for PTP to collect
"atomic" snapshots of various involved clocks.
They lack support for the recently introduced AUX clocks and do not
provide the underlying counter value (e.g. TSC) to user space.
Exposing the counter value snapshot allows for better control and
steering.
Convert the hard wired ktime_get_snapshot() to take a clock ID,
which allows the caller to select the clock ID to be captured along
with CLOCK_MONONOTONIC_RAW. Additionally capture the underlying
hardware counter value and the clock source ID of the counter.
Expand the hardware based snapshot capture where devices provide a
mechanism to snapshot the hardware PTP clock and the system counter
(usually via PCI/PTM) to support AUX clocks and also provide the
captured counter value back to the caller and not only the clock
timestamps derived from it.
- Add a new optional read_snapshot() callback to clocksources
That is required to capture atomic snapshots from clocksources
which are derived from TSC with a scaling mechanism (e.g. Hyper-V,
KVMclock).
The value pair is handed back in the snapshot structure to the
callers, so they can do the necessary correlations in a more
precise way.
This touches usage sites of the affected functions and data structure
all over the tree, but stays fully backwards compatible for the
existing user space exposed interfaces. New PTP IOCTLs will provide
access to the extended functionality in later kernel versions"

When RX hardware timestamping is enabled, a 16-byte inline timestamp header
is added to the start of the packet buffer, causing FPE handshake
verification to fail.
Because an incorrect packet buffer is passed to igc_fpe_handle_mpacket(),
the mem_is_zero() check inspects the timestamp metadata instead of the
actual mPacket payload. As a result, valid Verify/Response mPackets can be
missed when inline RX timestamps are present.
Pass pktbuf + pkt_offset to igc_fpe_handle_mpacket() so it inspects the
actual mPacket payload instead of the timestamp header.

Sashiko pointed out that igc_fpe_init_smd_frame() initializes
igc_tx_buffer fields for an SMD skb, but does not set the buffer type:
https://sashiko.dev/#/patchset/20260415025226.114115-1-kohei%40enjuk.jp
Since igc_tx_buffer entries are reused, a stale XDP or XSK type can
remain and make TX completion use the wrong cleanup path.
Set the buffer type to IGC_TX_BUFFER_TYPE_SKB.

... and PCI device helpers.
The various struct pci_device_id arrays were initialized mostly by one
the PCI_DEVICE macros and then list expressions. The latter isn't easily
readable if you're not into PCI. Using named initializers is more
explicit and thus easier to parse.
Also use PCI_DEVICE* helper macros to assign .vendor, .device,
.subvendor and .subdevice where appropriate and skip explicit
assignments of 0 (which the compiler takes care of).
The secret plan is to make struct pci_device_id::driver_data an
anonymous union (similar to
https://lore.kernel.org/all/cover.1776579304.git.u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com/)
and that requires named initializers. But it's also a nice cleanup on
its own.
This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id
arrays. Tested on x86 and arm64.

This patch addresses the issue where the igc_xsk_wakeup function
was triggering an incorrect IRQ for tx-0 when the i226 is configured
with only 2 combined queues or in an environment with 2 active CPU cores.
This prevented XDP Zero-copy send functionality in such split IRQ
configurations.
The fix implements the correct logic for extracting q_vectors saved
during rx and tx ring allocation and utilizes flags provided by the

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

is not expected to impact throughput, as the i226 is PCIe-limited
for small TSN packets rather than TX-buffer-limited.

The current HW bug workaround checks the TXTT_0 ready bit first,
then reads TXSTMPL_0 twice (before and after reading TXSTMPH_0)
to detect whether a new timestamp was captured by timestamp
register 0 during the workaround.
This sequence has a race: if a new timestamp is captured after
checking the TXTT_0 bit but before the first TXSTMPL_0 read, the
detection fails because both the "old" and "new" values come from
the same timestamp.
Fix by reading TXSTMPL_0 first to establish a baseline, then
checking the TXTT_0 bit. This ensures any timestamp captured
during the race window will be detected.
Old sequence:
1. Check TXTT_0 ready bit
2. Read TXSTMPL_0 (baseline)
3. Read TXSTMPH_0 (interrupt workaround)
4. Read TXSTMPL_0 (detect changes vs baseline)
New sequence:
1. Read TXSTMPL_0 (baseline)
2. Check TXTT_0 ready bit
3. Read TXSTMPH_0 (interrupt workaround)
4. Read TXSTMPL_0 (detect changes vs baseline)

The Multi-queue Priority (MQPRIO) and Earliest TxTime First (ETF) offloads
utilize the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) Tx mode. This mode is always
coupled to IEEE 802.1Qbv time aware shaper (Qbv). Therefore, the driver
sets a default Qbv schedule of all gates opened and a cycle time of
1s. This schedule is set during probe.
However, the following sequence of events lead to Tx issues:
- Boot a dual core system
igc_probe():
igc_tsn_clear_schedule():
-> Default Schedule is set
Note: At this point the driver has allocated two Tx/Rx queues, because
there are only two CPUs.
- ethtool -L enp3s0 combined 4
igc_ethtool_set_channels():
igc_reinit_queues()
-> Default schedule is gone, per Tx ring start and end time are zero
- tc qdisc replace dev enp3s0 handle 100 parent root mqprio \
num_tc 4 map 3 3 2 2 0 1 1 1 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 \
queues 1@0 1@1 1@2 1@3 hw 1
igc_tsn_offload_apply():
igc_tsn_enable_offload():
-> Writes zeros to IGC_STQT(i) and IGC_ENDQT(i), causing Tx to stall/fail
Therefore, restore the default Qbv schedule after changing the number of
channels.
Furthermore, add a restriction to not allow queue reconfiguration when
TSN/Qbv is enabled, because it may lead to inconsistent states.

Commit 84eaf4359c36 ("net: ethtool: add get_rx_ring_count callback to
optimize RX ring queries") added specific support for GRXRINGS callback,
simplifying .get_rxnfc.
Remove the handling of GRXRINGS in .get_rxnfc() by moving it to the new
.get_rx_ring_count().
This simplifies the RX ring count retrieval and aligns igc with the new
ethtool API for querying RX ring parameters.

In 2009, commit c82f63e411f1 ("PCI: check saved state before restore")
changed the behavior of pci_restore_state() such that it became necessary
to call pci_save_state() afterwards, lest recovery from subsequent PCI
errors fails.
The commit has just been reverted and so all the pci_save_state() after
pci_restore_state() calls that have accumulated in the tree are now
superfluous. Drop them.
Two drivers chose a different approach to achieve the same result:
drivers/scsi/ipr.c and drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/netdev.c set the
pci_dev's "state_saved" flag to true before calling pci_restore_state().
Drop this as well.

igc_ethtool_get_sset_count() returns -ENOTSUPP when a given stringset is
not supported, causing userland programs to get "Unknown error 524".
Since EOPNOTSUPP should be used when error is propagated to userland,
return -EOPNOTSUPP instead of -ENOTSUPP.

The current implementation of the igc driver doesn't power up the PHY
before the link test in igc_ethtool_diag_test(), causing the link test
to always report FAIL when admin state is down and the PHY is
consequently powered down.
To test the link state regardless of admin state, power up the PHY
before the link test in the offline test path. After the link test, the
original PHY state is restored by igc_reset(), so additional code which
explicitly restores the original state is not necessary.
Note that this change is applied only for the offline test path. This is
because in the online path we shouldn't interrupt normal networking
operation and powering up the PHY and restoring the original state would
interrupt that.
This implementation also uses igc_power_up_phy_copper() without checking
the media type, since igc devices are currently only copper devices and
the function is called in other places without checking the media type.
Furthermore, the powering up is on a best-effort basis, that is, we
don't handle failures of powering up (e.g. bus error) and just let the
test report FAIL.
Tested on Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I226-V (rev 04) with
cable connected and link available.

When igc_led_setup() fails, igc_probe() fails and triggers kernel panic
in free_netdev() since unregister_netdev() is not called. [1]
This behavior can be tested using fault-injection framework, especially
the failslab feature. [2]
Since LED support is not mandatory, treat LED setup failures as
non-fatal and continue probe with a warning message, consequently
avoiding the kernel panic.

Device ID comparison in igc_is_device_id_i226 is performed before
the ID is set, resulting in always failing check on init.
Before the patch:
* L1.2 is not disabled on init
* L1.2 is properly disabled after suspend-resume cycle
With the patch:
* L1.2 is properly disabled both on init and after suspend-resume
How to test:
Connect to the 1G link with 300+ mbit/s Internet speed, and run
the download speed test, such as:
curl -o /dev/null http://speedtest.selectel.ru/1GB
Without L1.2 disabled, the speed would be no more than ~200 mbit/s.
With L1.2 disabled, the speed would reach 1 gbit/s.
Note: it's required that the latency between your host and the remote
be around 3-5 ms, the test inside LAN (<1 ms latency) won't trigger the
issue.
