The default VNIC programs the device's MAC as L2 filter 0 in
bnge_init_chip() via bnge_hwrm_set_vnic_filter(bn, 0, 0, dev_addr).
bnge_cfg_rx_mode() then walks dev->uc and programs each unicast
address as a further L2 filter, without excluding dev_addr.
Skip dev_addr when building uc_list, since it is already installed as
filter 0. As dev_addr now takes neither a uc_list slot nor an
l2_filters[] slot, count only the non-dev_addr entries for the
uc_list overflow check too, otherwise an input such as
{dev_addr, A, B, C} would needlessly fall back to promiscuous mode
even though A, B and C fit in exact-match filters.
bnge_uc_list_updated() applies the same skip and count so the
change detection stays consistent and does not loop.
This issue was caught by Sashiko (nipa).
Tested on Thor Ultra device.

bnge_start_xmit() samples skb_shinfo(skb)->nr_frags into last_frag,
and stores it in tx_buf->nr_frags, before calling eth_skb_pad().
If a nonlinear skb is shorter than ETH_ZLEN, __skb_pad() calls
skb_linearize(), which pulls the frags into the linear part,
releases the frag pages and sets nr_frags to zero.
bnge_start_xmit() then uses the stale last_frag to fill TX_BD_CNT()
and to walk skb_shinfo(skb)->frags[], DMA-mapping pages the skb
no longer holds a reference on, and sending their content twice.
Fix this by calling eth_skb_pad() before nr_frags is sampled.
Found by Sashiko while reviewing the similar bnxt_en fix.

Stefan Fleischmann reported Intel IOMMU DMA Read faults on BCM57412
NetXtreme-E NICs when transmitting packets on VLAN/macvlan interfaces:
DMAR: [DMA Read NO_PASID] Request device [18:00.0] fault addr 0xfc499000
[fault reason 0x06] PTE Read access is not set
bnxt_en 0000:18:00.0 eno1np0: Abandoning msg {0xb4 0x41a} len: 0 due to firmware status: 0x2000001
...
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eno1np0 (bnxt_en): transmit queue 0 timed out
The fault address (0xfc499000) is on an exact 4KB page boundary,
pointing to a DMA read buffer overrun.
In bnxt_start_xmit(), packets smaller than BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE (52 bytes),
such as 42-byte untagged ARP frames, are padded:
if (length < BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE) {
pad = BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE - length;
if (skb_pad(skb, pad))
goto tx_kick_pending;
length = BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE;
}
mapping = dma_map_single(&pdev->dev, skb->data, len, DMA_TO_DEVICE);
...
dma_unmap_len_set(tx_buf, len, len);
However, 'len' was initialized earlier to skb_headlen(skb) (e.g. 42 bytes)
and is left unadjusted after padding. Consequently, dma_map_single() and
dma_unmap_len_set() map and track only 42 bytes.
Later, the hardware TX buffer descriptor is programmed with the padded length:
txbd->tx_bd_len_flags_type =
cpu_to_le32(((len + pad) << TX_BD_LEN_SHIFT) | flags |
TX_BD_FLAGS_PACKET_END);
The NIC DMA engine is thus instructed to read 52 bytes from a region where
only 42 bytes were DMA-mapped. If skb->data ends near the boundary of a 4KB
page (within 'pad' bytes of the next page), the hardware DMA read overruns
into the unmapped adjacent page, triggering an IOMMU fault.
This issue was exposed after commit 447cbe95ebb9 ("vlan: fix skb_under_panic
and races when toggling HW VLAN offload") because reserving extra VLAN
headroom rounded LL_RESERVED_SPACE from 48 up to 64 bytes, shifting skb->data
offsets and potentially causing small frames to land right against page
boundaries.
Fix this by using skb_put_padto(skb, BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE) in
bnxt_start_xmit(), before skb_shinfo(skb)->nr_frags is sampled,
because padding might linearize the skb.
This ensures skb->len and skb_headlen(skb) reflect the padded size so
that dma_map_single() maps the full buffer and the descriptor length is
consistent. This also removes the temporary 'pad' variable and masking logic.
The padding is done after the SW USO branch, otherwise
bnxt_sw_udp_gso_xmit() would account the padding as UDP payload
and send it in extra segments.
Note that SW USO segments are still not padded: with IPv4, a segment
carrying less than 10 bytes of UDP payload (small gso_size, or a short
last segment) is sent as a frame shorter than BNXT_MIN_PKT_SIZE.
This is a separate issue, left for a followup patch.

Currently the driver zeroes the BARs only when fatal PCIe errors
are reported so that pci_restore_state() restores it. However
firmware handles both fatal and non-fatal errors the same way when
it sees the slot reset resulting from the PCI_ERS_RESULT_NEED_RESET
return code from the driver. This means that we must re-write the
BARs post recovery even during non-fatal errors. Otherwise we will
see that every MMIO access returns all-ones and the firmware appears
dead.
Zero-out the BARs during PCIe error recovery regardless of type of
PCIe error, and make the wait after the hot reset unconditional.
Disable memory decode and bus mastering before rewriting the BARs so
the device doesn't decode a half-updated address, bailing out if
config space is still inaccessible. Defer pci_enable_device() until
after the BAR rewrite and restore, so the device isn't re-enabled
while its BARs are still being rewritten, then re-enable the device
and re-assert bus mastering. Guard the same Command register cleanup
on the re-enable failure path against an inaccessible device.
Skip re-enabling the device in bnxt_io_slot_reset() if it is already
enabled, so enable_cnt does not go unbalanced. A concurrent
bnxt_fw_reset_task() can also be re-enabling the same device in its
ENABLE_DEV state, so guard that call the same way.

Fix and strengthen the FLR sequence when initializing in the kdump
kernel. If the NIC is behind a PCIe switch in synthetic (smart)
mode, the switch may need to see that the BARs have been initialized
before it will pass mem read/write TLPs to the NIC.
On a Dell system with a PEX89144 PCIe switch, echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger
will trigger fatal AER without this patch:
bnxt_en 0000:67:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[Hardware Error]: Hardware error from APEI Generic Hardware Error Source: 5
[Hardware Error]: event severity: recoverable
[Hardware Error]: Error 0, type: fatal
[Hardware Error]: section_type: PCIe error
[Hardware Error]: port_type: 5, upstream switch port
...
Add a new bnxt_kdump_reset() to do the expanded FLR sequence in the
kdump kernel. We now disable bus master and memory, save the PCI
state, do the FLR, clear the BARs, and restore the PCI state. The
BARs have to be cleared to ensure that they get re-initialized and
visible to the PCIe switch.
Since it is the kdump kernel, we make every effort to continue in
the best possible way even if pci_save_state() or pcie_flr() returns
error. After FLR, we poll for an additional 5 seconds before
aborting in case the device is not properly returning CRS. This is
similar to the 5-second wait in bnxt_io_slot_reset().

When the revised suspend/resume sequence was introduced this led to an edge
case where the TX is left disabled in the following sequence.
1. phy link is down, so UMAC is held in reset and then network interface
is WoL enabled
2. Enter suspend, bcmgenet_wol_power_down_cfg() enables UMAC_RX since MAC
is in SW_RESET
4. Enter resume, UMAC_RX is left enabled. Since we only enable UMAC_TX
and UMAC_RX in SW_RESET. The UMAC_TX is never enabled again on link up.
The issue was hit in production and I verified the sequence keeps
the TX disabled in my standalone test. I tested on an internal
development board with bcm77122, but should be reproducible
on any genet HW that supports power management.

netif_stop_queue() in bcmasp_xmit() raced with netif_wake_queue() in
bcmasp_tx_poll(): a reclaim landing between the ring-full check and
the stop call left the queue stopped despite free descriptors,
hanging TX until timeout.
Switch to netif_txq_maybe_stop()/netif_txq_completed_wake() (the
lockless TX queue API, which also brings in BQL), replace
tx_spb_ring_full() with a live bcmasp_tx_avail() count.
This issue was discovered using LLM and is only theoretical.

bnge_alloc_core() previously jumped to a single error label that called
bnge_free_core() to unwind. However, bnge_free_core() assumes a fully
initialized state and dereferences rx/tx ring arrays unconditionally.
If ring allocations fail early, this causes a near-NULL dereference.
Introduce a standard goto ladder to unwind only the resources that were
successfully allocated, preventing NULL dereferences.

In bcm_sysport_probe(), priv->phy_dn is only initialized if the device
tree node has a fixed-link configuration (of_phy_is_fixed_link). When
connecting to a discrete MDIO-attached PHY referenced via 'phy-handle',
priv->phy_dn remains NULL. This causes of_phy_connect() during
bcm_sysport_open() to fail with -ENODEV since of_phy_find_device(NULL)
returns NULL.
Fix this by parsing 'phy-handle' via of_parse_phandle() and falling back
to of_phy_is_fixed_link(). Ensure proper of_node_get() and of_node_put()
refcounting lifecycle on both error unwinding and module remove paths.

Since the page_pool conversion every RX buffer is a whole page and the
skb truesize is the page, although the hardware writes at most 2 KiB of
it. On 64 KiB pages a packet therefore counts 65792 bytes against the
socket buffer where it used to count 2752. As a result a UDP socket
with the default buffer starts to drop after three packets, and the RX
rings pin 16 MiB for 512 KiB of buffers.
Fix this and allocate the buffers as page fragments, so the truesize is
what a packet occupies. 4 KiB pages stay one buffer per page.
Sync each buffer in the refill path, as page_pool can only sync a whole
page on recycle. On 4 KiB pages that is twice what the hardware wrote.

bcmgenet_power_up() had an early check for bcmgenet_has_ext(priv) before
dispatching by power mode. GENET V1 does not have the EXT block (unlike
GENET V2+), which causes bcmgenet_power_up() to immediately return 0.
As a consequence, when waking up from GENET_POWER_WOL_MAGIC on GENET V1,
bcmgenet_wol_power_up_cfg() is never invoked to disable the WoL clock,
clear wake event masks, and restore normal PHY and MAC operations.
Move the bcmgenet_has_ext() checks to the GENET_POWER_PASSIVE and
GENET_POWER_CABLE_SENSE cases where the EXT registers are actually
accessed, allowing GENET_POWER_WOL_MAGIC cleanup to execute on all

bcmgenet_gstrings_stats statically defines ethtool statistics for queues
0 through GENET_MAX_MQ_CNT (4). However, bcmgenet_probe() only initialized
the u64_stats_sync seq counter up to priv->hw_params->rx_queues and
priv->hw_params->tx_queues.
Since priv->hw_params->rx_queues is 0 across all hardware versions (and
priv->hw_params->tx_queues is 0 on GENET V1), rings 1..4 have uninitialized
u64_stats_sync structures. When ethtool -S is run on 32-bit kernels,
bcmgenet_get_ethtool_stats() reads stats from rx_rings[1..4], causing
lockdep warnings due to the uninitialized sequence counters.

When bcmgenet was converted to 64-bit statistics, STAT_RTNL members were
switched to point into struct rtnl_link_stats64, whose fields are 64-bit
(__u64) regardless of architecture.
However, bcmgenet_get_ethtool_stats() retained a legacy check:
if (sizeof(unsigned long) != sizeof(u32) &&
s->stat_sizeof == sizeof(unsigned long))
On 32-bit systems, sizeof(unsigned long) == sizeof(u32), causing this
condition to evaluate to false. As a result, 64-bit RTNL stats fields were
read via *(u32 *)p. On 32-bit Big-Endian systems (such as MIPS BE), this
reads the high 32 bits and returns 0 until the counter exceeds 4GB; on
32-bit Little-Endian systems (such as 32-bit ARM), the value is truncated
to 32 bits.
Fix this by checking if s->stat_sizeof == sizeof(u64) so 64-bit fields are
always read as 64-bit values.

Some of the tg3 NICs we use (BCM57762) reset the SRAM MAC address to the
placeholder address on link flaps, tg3_chip_reset, etc. We've typically
fixed it from userspace, but since e4c00ba7274b ("tg3: replace
placeholder MAC address with device property") was merged, tg3 just
fails probe as we don't have a way to get it through the generic
device_get_mac_address infrastructure as fallback on our systems.
Make the driver assign a random address in this condition instead of
being fatal for probe. Set deferred_probe_reason through dev_warn_probe
if the address isn't yet available from the provider.

bcmgenet_netif_stop() and the Wake-on-LAN branch of bcmgenet_suspend()
both disable the Tx queues first and stop Tx NAPI several steps later. A
completion in flight calls netif_tx_wake_queue() in between, and nothing
stops the queue again, so a transmit can reach the rings after they have
been freed.
Close is safe because dev_deactivate_many() stops the qdisc first.
bcmgenet_suspend() does not, so stop Tx NAPI before the queues on both
paths.

tg3_get_invariants() can register an MDIO bus and connect a PHY for
USE_PHYLIB devices. If tg3_init_one() later fails, its common error path
releases the mappings and netdev without undoing those PHYLIB resources.
Disconnect the PHY and unregister the MDIO bus before the remaining
teardown. Guard PHY cleanup with USE_PHYLIB to match tg3_phy_init(), and
call tg3_mdio_fini() unconditionally to match tg3_mdio_init(). The existing
IS_CONNECTED and MDIOBUS_INITED flags make both helpers safe when
initialization only completed partially.
This issue was identified during our ongoing static-analysis research while
reviewing kernel code.

An offline self test that brings the interface down and back up with
netif_close() / netif_open() requires rtnl_lock for both. Since the
ethtool IOCTL path became rtnl-optional for ops-locked drivers, the
ETHTOOL_TEST ioctl runs holding only the netdev instance lock, so on an
ops-locked driver the self test now tears the device down without
rtnl_lock.
With lockdep this reproduces deterministically on every offline self
test on such a driver; note the sole lock held is the instance lock, not
rtnl:

Without lockdep the same condition trips ASSERT_RTNL() in
__dev_close_many() / __dev_open(); that check only samples the global
rtnl state, so it can be masked by a concurrent rtnl holder, but the
device is still being reconfigured without the lock it requires.
The ethtool self_test is a legacy ioctl-only command, so an ETHTOOL_TEST
case is only needed on the ioctl path. Add an opt-in bit for drivers whose
self test needs rtnl_lock and set it on the ops-locked drivers whose
offline self test tears the interface down and up:
- fbnic (ops-locked via queue_mgmt_ops): fbnic_self_test() offline path
uses netif_close() / netif_open().
- bnxt (ops-locked via queue_mgmt_ops): bnxt_self_test() offline path
goes through bnxt_close_nic() / bnxt_half_open_nic() /

FW supports up to 1024 concurrent TPAs, so the FW TPA ID is in the range
0..1023 (see commit ec4d8e7cf024 ("bnxt_en: Add TPA ID mapping logic for
57500 chips.")). bnxt_alloc_agg_idx is intended to wrap the FW ID down to a
software ID which is used to index rxr->rx_tpa, and to generate a mapping
between FW IDs and the wrapped software ID.
On a 57608 with firmware version 233, the firmware advertises 32
concurrent TPAs. As of the commit under fixes, bp->max_tpa on this NIC
is set to 32.
If the software ID from bnxt_alloc_agg_idx is above 31, this results in
an invalid address being loaded on this line:
tpa_info = &rxr->rx_tpa[agg_id];
because rx_tpa is allocated with only bp->max_tpa (32) entries. Writes
to tpa_info later in the code are out of bounds.

is dereferenced. The invalid write mentioned above is silent in this
particular crash.
Fix this by allocating rx_tpa with bp->max_tpa rounded up to the next
power of 2 (bp->max_tpa_roundup_size) entries and masking the FW TPA ID
with that size, so the wrapped ID can never index past the end of the
array.

bnxt_init_rx_rings() returns an error when bnxt_alloc_one_rx_ring()
fails, but bnxt_init_nic() discards that return value and calls
bnxt_init_chip(), which enables TPA.
If an allocation fails, this could leave rxr->rx_tpa[] partially zeroed
and TPA would be enabled over an array with zeroed entries. This would
lead to a zeroed DMA address being handed out if the agg_idx is
translated to a SW index at a zeroed entry.
Fix this by propagating the error out of bnxt_init_nic(). Both callers
already check its return value and unwind with bnxt_free_skbs() and
bnxt_free_mem(), which tolerate a partially initialized RX ring.

bnxt_rx_ring_reset() frees the ring buffers and then reallocates them,
ignoring the result.
bnxt_alloc_one_rx_ring() can fail in bnxt_alloc_one_tpa_info_data(), which
returns -ENOMEM on the first failed allocation and leaves the remaining
rxr->rx_tpa[] entries zeroed.
The error isn't propagated up, so the loop in bnxt_rx_ring_reset
continues and at the end the code re-enables TPA with partially
unallocated rx_tpa array.
This means that when the agg_id from hardware is mapped to a SW index in
rxr->rx_tpa[], an uninitialized slot can be chosen which would hand a
zero DMA address to the device.
Fix this by falling back to a global reset, which is what the existing
code already does when other functions fail, but unlike the other
failure cases this particular failure has to return because TPA can't
be re-enabled since the allocation failed.

bnxt_alloc_one_tpa_info_data() returns -ENOMEM as soon as one allocation
fails. This leaves the remaining rxr->rx_tpa[] entries zeroed.
bnxt_queue_mem_alloc() discards that return value, so the partially
initialized ring is installed by bnxt_queue_start().
Since the agg_id is picked by the hardware and bnxt_alloc_agg_idx maps
it to a SW index in rxr->rx_tpa[], it is possible that an uninitialized
slot can be chosen which would hand a zero DMA address to the device.
Fix this by checking the return value of bnxt_alloc_one_tpa_info_data
and unwinding, freeing the ring buffers.

bnxt_queue_mem_alloc() shallow copies the live RX ring into the clone:
memcpy(clone, rxr, sizeof(*rxr));
the code currently clears pointers that the clone owns (such as
rx_agg_bmap), but rx_tpa and rx_tpa_idx_map are left pointing at memory
of the live ring that was cloned.
If an allocation failure happens later and the err_free_tpa_info label
is taken, the live ring's memory can be freed while still in use.
Fix this by initializing the clone's pointers to NULL to prevent live
ring state from being freed inadvertently.

When the driver receives a burst of packets, it can mark a BD with the
NO_CMPL bit to defer completions. The expectation is that the last
packet in the ring will have this bit unset and the completion generated
by that packet will cleanup that packet and the ones preceding it. This
helps to reduce the number of completions fired.
The suppressed completions are controlled by the driver and the number
of packets with suppressed completions scales with the size of the ring.
SW USO packets, on the other hand, have an upper bound on the maximum
number of BDs which can be consumed which does not scale with the ring
size.
So, for small rings it is possible that: a burst of packets is handed to
the driver, the driver defers completions for all of the packets because
the number of free descriptors stays above the threshold in the driver.
Then, a USO packet arrives, but the number of BDs available is not
enough and the USO code exits early.
In this case, you end up in a state where the ring is full of packets
with their completions suppressed, which can cause the queue to stop and
never be restarted.
Assuming default CONFIG_MAX_SKB_FRAGS, this is only possible for small
rings (<= 457 descriptors, below the driver default value) when
a burst of packets fills the ring, followed by a large USO packet that
can't fit. For larger rings, the delta between the completion
suppression threshold and the BDs required for SW USO is large enough
that completions will fire and this case is unreachable.
This issue was pointed out by Sashiko and while it seems fairly unlikely
given that the queue size must be small to trigger this, it is indeed
possible.
Fix this by tracking the last BD which deferred completions and
centralizing the logic for deciding when to ring the doorbell. The NO_CMPL
bit is now cleared in bnxt_txr_db_kick(), so every doorbell site is
covered, including the SW USO early exit. This guarantees the ring always
ends in a BD which generates a completion to clean it and wake the queue.

The loop initialised next_index from intf->tx_spb_index on every
iteration, so incr_ring() always produced the same result and only
one slot was ever tested. Move the initialisation before the loop
so each iteration advances next_index and the function correctly
checks that cnt consecutive descriptor slots are available before
allowing a new transmission.
