2026-09-25mtd: maps: add INT0800 firmware-flash map driverStephen Bancroft
Add a read-only mapping driver that binds the ACPI INT0800 "Intel 82802 firmware hub" device and exposes the system firmware flash as an MTD ROM device. On x86 machines the boot flash is decoded into the physical address space below 4 GB, so a plain ioremap() of the declared resource window is sufficient for reads - no SPI or LPC controller access is needed. The window may be larger than the real flash; undecoded holes read as 0xff. This gives userspace a clean, safe way to read firmware flash contents without flashrom or relaxed /dev/mem access - for firmware analysis, and for extracting option ROMs stored inside EFI firmware volumes (e.g. the NVIDIA VBIOS on EFI-booted Apple machines, which can then be fed to nouveau via nouveau.config=NvBios=). There is deliberately no write or erase support. Tested on a MacBookPro4,1 (ICH8M): /dev/mtd0 reads are byte-identical to a flashrom dump of the 2 MiB SST25VF016B, except for live NVRAM variable-store regions. 2026-09-25mtd: maps: l440gx: Fix double put of the PM device in init_l440gx()Wentao Liang
The PIIX4 PM device reference taken with pci_get_device() is dropped again before the iobase resource is allocated. If pci_assign_resource() fails, the error path calls pci_dev_put() on pm_dev a second time, releasing a reference that is no longer owned and underflowing the reference count. Remove the extra pci_dev_put(). 2026-09-25mtd: maps: l440gx: Fix double put of the ISA bridge in init_l440gx()Wentao Liang
init_l440gx() takes a single reference on the PIIX4 ISA bridge with pci_get_device() and drops it again right after the lookups, before the flash window is set up. The pci_assign_resource() failure path then calls pci_dev_put() on the same device a second time, releasing a reference that is no longer owned and underflowing the reference count. Remove the extra pci_dev_put(). Fixes: dd8e9ed6ed54 ("[MTD] Switch to pci_get_device and do ref counting") Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Wentao Liang <vulab@iscas.ac.cn> Signed-off-by: Miquel Raynal <miquel.raynal@bootlin.com>
2026-09-25mtd: amd76xrom: Fix PCI device reference leak in amd76xrom_init_one()Wentao Liang
init_amd76xrom() obtains the PCI device with pci_get_device() and hands the reference over to amd76xrom_init_one(), which stores it in window->pdev. When reserving the ROM window fails, that function returns -EBUSY directly instead of going through amd76xrom_cleanup(), so the reference is neither released nor cleared. Drop the reference and clear window->pdev on that path. 2026-09-25mtd: maps: pci: balance PCI enable on cleanupMyeonghun Pak
mtd_pci_probe() leaves the PCI device enabled on later probe failure and mtd_pci_remove() does not disable it either. Use pcim_enable_device() to release the enable reference after the existing map and region cleanup. The imbalance is already present in the initial Git import. This issue was identified during our ongoing static-analysis research while reviewing kernel code. 2026-07-03Revert "mtd: maps: remove uclinux map driver"Miquel Raynal
The uclinux MTD map driver is still actively used on ColdFire (m68k) platforms. The ColdFire startup code in arch/m68k/coldfire/head.S copies an attached filesystem blob to _bss_stop, and the uclinux driver picks it up from there. Most ColdFire defconfigs enable CONFIG_MTD_UCLINUX, as the driver seems to serve as a replacement for CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD on these non-MMU targets. The driver was removed as part of a series cleaning up AMD Élan specific drivers, but unlike the other three drivers in that series, this driver seemed to not be as Élan specific (nor unused) as initially thought. This reverts commit c584b8a7ad01a334a89732f3c5791ba14e58642b. 2026-05-27mtd: maps: remove obsolete impa7 map driverArnd Bergmann
This driver was originally merged in 2002 for a board using the Cirrus Logic CL/PS711x platform, but the actual board file never made it upstream. The SoC platform is still supported but uses devicetree based probing, so if anyone ever wanted to upstream board support, they would just use the regular physmap driver. 2026-05-27mtd: maps: remove uclinux map driverArnd Bergmann
Rather than using platform data or DT properties, the configuration for this mtd map driver used to be passed through the global uclinux_ram_map structure, but the last instance was removed in commit 4ba66a976072 ("arch: remove blackfin port") in 2018. After commit 251f26c9e828 ("mtd: maps: Make uclinux_ram_map static"), it became impossible to configure it at all, even with out-of-tree platform code. Clearly nobody is using it, so remove it. Since 486-class CPU support was removed in commit 8b793a92d862 ("x86/cpu: Remove M486/M486SX/ELAN support"), it is no longer possible to actually use these. Three of them have already been removed, so remove the remaining driver entirely. 2026-05-27mtd: Consistently define pci_device_idsUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)
Initializing a pci_device_id using plain list expressions is hard to understand for a human who isn't into the Linux PCI subsystem. So for each initializer use one of the PCI_DEVICE macros for .vendor, .device, .subvendor and .subdevice and named initializers for the remaining assignments. This makes it easier to parse and also more robust against chagnes to the struct definition. Also drop useless zeros and commas. The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct pci_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union. This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id array. Tested on x86 and arm64. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_flex' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex() interface. As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather than 'objs*'. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. 2024-04-09mtd: maps: sa1100-flash: Prefer struct_size over open coded arithmeticErick Archer
This is an effort to get rid of all multiplications from allocation functions in order to prevent integer overflows [1][2]. As the "info" variable is a pointer to "struct sa_info" and this structure ends in a flexible array: struct sa_info { [...] struct sa_subdev_info subdev[]; }; the preferred way in the kernel is to use the struct_size() helper to do the arithmetic instead of the calculation "size + size * count" in the kzalloc() function. This way, the code is more readable and safer. This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle, and audited and modified manually. Comes next (in number of changes) Kees' additional structures annotations to improve the sanitizers. The usual amount of cleanups apply. About the more substancial contribution, one main function of the partitions core could return an error which was not checked, this is now fixed. On the bindings side, fixed partitions can now have a compression property. Finally, an erroneous situation is now always avoided in the MAP RAM driver. CFI: - A several years old byte swap has been fixed. NAND: - The subsystem has, as usual, seen a bit of cleanup being done this cycle, typically return values of platform_get_irq() and devm_kasprintf(). There is also a better ECC check in the Arasan driver. This comes with smaller misc changes. - In the SPI-NAND world there is now support for Foresee F35SQA002G, Winbond W25N and XTX XT26 chips. SPI NOR: - For SPI NOR we cleaned the flash info entries in order to have them slimmer and self explanatory. In order to make the entries as slim as possible, we introduced sane default values so that the actual flash entries don't need to specify them. We now use a flexible macro to specify the flash ID instead of the previous INFOx() macros that had hardcoded ID lengths. Instead of: { "w25q512nwm", INFO(0xef8020, 0, 64 * 1024, 0) OTP_INFO(256, 3, 0x1000, 0x1000) }, We now use: .id = SNOR_ID(0xef, 0x80, 0x20), .name = "w25q512nwm", .otp = SNOR_OTP(256, 3, 0x1000, 0x1000), - We also removed some flash entries: the very old Catalyst SPI EEPROMs that were introduced once with the SPI-NOR subsystem, and a Fujitsu MRAM. Both should use the at25 EEPROM driver. The latter even has device tree bindings for the at25 driver. - We made sure that the conversion didn't introduce any unwanted changes by comparing the .rodata segment before and after the conversion. The patches landed in linux-next immediately after v6.6-rc2, we haven't seen any regressions yet. - Apart of the autumn cleaning we introduced a new flash entry, at25ff321a, and added block protection support for mt25qu512a" * tag 'mtd/for-6.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mtd/linux: (91 commits) mtd: cfi_cmdset_0001: Byte swap OTP info mtd: rawnand: meson: check return value of devm_kasprintf() mtd: rawnand: intel: check return value of devm_kasprintf() mtd: rawnand: sh_flctl: Convert to module_platform_driver() mtd: spi-nor: micron-st: use SFDP table for mt25qu512a mtd: spi-nor: micron-st: enable lock/unlock for mt25qu512a mtd: rawnand: Remove unused of_gpio.h inclusion mtd: spinand: Add support for XTX XT26xxxDxxxxx mtd: spinand: winbond: add support for serial NAND flash mtd: rawnand: cadence: Annotate struct cdns_nand_chip with __counted_by mtd: rawnand: Annotate struct mtk_nfc_nand_chip with __counted_by mtd: spinand: add support for FORESEE F35SQA002G mtd: rawnand: rockchip: Use struct_size() mtd: rawnand: arasan: Include ECC syndrome along with in-band data while checking for ECC failure mtd: Use device_get_match_data() mtd: spi-nor: nxp-spifi: Convert to platform remove callback returning void mtd: spi-nor: hisi-sfc: Convert to platform remove callback returning void mtd: maps: sun_uflash: Convert to platform remove callback returning void mtd: maps: sa1100-flash: Convert to platform remove callback returning void mtd: maps: pxa2xx-flash: Convert to platform remove callback returning void ...

2023-10-16mtd: maps: sun_uflash: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. When the exact mapping type driver was not available, the old physmap_of_core driver fell back to mapping the region as ROM. 2023-07-27mtd: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes.
