job_ready() only honours the is_header_valid() verdict when
ctx->comp_has_frame is set, and comp_has_frame is only set once
comp_size reaches the full frame size. Since the copy is clamped to
ctx->comp_max_size, a header advertising a larger size leaves comp_size
stuck at comp_max_size, so comp_has_frame stays false and the failed
validation is discarded.
Control then falls into the resolution change branch, which calls
update_capture_data_from_header(). That function re-derives info via
info_from_header(), assigns it to q_dst->info and dereferences it as
q_dst->info->sizeimage_mult, with no NULL check of its own.
is_header_valid() does check that same info_from_header() result --
if (!info) return false which is precisely the false verdict
job_ready() discarded above. info_from_header() returns NULL whenever the
header flags resolve to no supported pixel format.
Drop the comp_has_frame conjunct so an invalid header always bails out.
The resolution change path is unaffected, as it is entered with a valid
header. Oversized frames are then rejected by device_process(), which
already returns -EINVAL when comp_frame_size exceeds comp_max_size.

The stateful decoder leaks uninitialized kernel heap memory to userspace.
A process that can open the decoder video node gets it back in the CAPTURE
buffers it dequeues.
The reference frame and the compressed frame buffer are allocated with
kvmalloc() in vicodec_start_streaming(), and the decoder can read them
before they have been written. The first frame is allowed to be a P-frame,
in which case it is decoded against a reference frame that was never
produced, and the padding rows below the visible area are never written
for any frame.
Use kvzalloc() for both allocations.

vivid_dev_release() cancels update_hdmi_ctrl_work but not its sibling
update_svid_ctrl_work, which vivid_vid_cap_s_ctrl() queues on
update_svid_ctrls_workqueue when a VIVID_CID_SVID_IS_CONNECTED_TO_OUTPUT
control is changed. The two work items were added together, but only
one of them is cancelled on release.
If the svid work is still pending or running when the last v4l2_device
reference is dropped, update_svid_ctrls_work_handler() runs after
kfree(dev): the handler iterates the global vivid_devs[] array and
calls v4l2_ctrl_modify_range() on every vivid_dev instance, including
this one after it has been freed.
Add the missing cancel_work_sync() next to the hdmi sibling, before
vivid_free_controls() releases the control handlers the work uses.
This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool.

The vim2m driver has two driver-specific controls, but the
control IDs were never reserved in v4l2-control.h.
While these control IDs clash with the range reserved for
the old meye driver, since that meye driver has been removed
from the kernel quite a long time ago we just officially claim
that range for the vim2m driver.

syzbot reports a vmalloc out-of-bounds write in the test pattern
generator:
BUG: KASAN: vmalloc-out-of-bounds in tpg_fill_plane_pattern drivers/media/common/v4l2-tpg/v4l2-tpg-core.c:2617 [inline]
BUG: KASAN: vmalloc-out-of-bounds in tpg_fill_plane_buffer+0x2063/0x4160 drivers/media/common/v4l2-tpg/v4l2-tpg-core.c:2705
Write of size 720 at addr ffffc900038f9d50 by task vivid-000-vid-c/6017
The reproducer requests a 720x49 NV12 capture format, i.e. an odd
height for a format whose chroma plane is vertically subsampled.
The buffer size is derived from the height by a truncating division:
sizes[p] = (tpg_g_line_width(&dev->tpg, p) * h) /
dev->fmt_cap->vdownsampling[p] +
dev->fmt_cap->data_offset[p];
For a single buffer holding both planes tpg_g_line_width() returns
720 + 720 / 2 = 1080, so 1080 * 49 = 52920 bytes get allocated.
tpg_fill_plane_buffer() however emits one chroma line for every two
luma lines, i.e. DIV_ROUND_UP(49, 2) = 25 lines, and thus needs
49 * 720 + 25 * 720 = 53280 bytes. The memcpy() of the last chroma
line runs 360 bytes past the end of the buffer.
An odd height is not meaningful for a 4:2:0 format in the first place,
since the chroma plane would have to hold half a line. Rather than
fixing up each of the ~10 sites that divide the height by
vdownsampling[], round the height down to a multiple of the vertical
subsampling factor where it enters the driver. Adjusting the format is
what TRY_FMT/S_FMT are for, and it keeps every later division exact.
Formats without vertical subsampling are unaffected and keep accepting
odd heights.
Tested with the syzbot reproducer, which no longer triggers the splat,
and by streaming NV12, NV21, YUV420, YVU420 and YUYV at heights 47,
48, 49, 51, 480, 481 and 1081. v4l2-compliance gives identical results
before and after (48 of 50 succeeded on the vivid device in both
cases; the two failures are pre-existing and unrelated).

The lists of frequencies the simulated tuner locks onto are module
parameters, and were handed over to the tuner module without being
checked first.
A terrestrial or cable frequency outside the range the demodulator
reports to the DVB core is unreachable, as dvb_frontend_check_parameters()
rejects such a tuning request before the tuner is ever asked about the
frequency. A satellite frequency outside the Ku-band covered by the
simulated LNBf is equally meaningless, since it is downconverted using
the LNBf local oscillators before reaching the tuner.
In both cases vidtv used to initialize successfully and then never lock
on anything, leaving no clue about the cause.
Check the terrestrial and cable frequencies against the range advertised
by the demodulator, and the satellite ones against the Ku-band covered by
the simulated LNBf, failing the probe with an explicit error message
otherwise.

Attempting to unbind a dvbdevice that is in the process of feeding
data causes a UAF as we free the underlying device without
stopping the feed first. Fix this by stopping the stream first using
vidtv_stop_streaming(). However, our codepath in the reproducer
(mentioned in the below reply) does not decrement our users
(dmxdev->dvr_dvbdev->users) to 1 after it has been incremented to 2
by our read() in the reproducer, that is only possible on .release.
This can cause a task hang as dvb_dmxdev_release() uses wait_event()
in the wait_queue unless we use a close(fd)(in the reproducer).
Is this a problem? Please advise.

dvb_register_frontend() keeps two references to the frontend. One is
released by dvb_unregister_frontend(), and the other by
dvb_frontend_detach(). vidtv only called dvb_unregister_frontend(), so
the second reference was never released. As a result,
__dvb_frontend_free() was never called, leaking the frontend private
data and its struct dvb_device.
The detach call was removed by commit 63101b756893 ("media: vidtv: fix
driver unbind/remove") because it caused an OOPS. The demod .release
callback freed vidtv_demod_state, and the I2C remove callbacks then
accessed the freed state.
That commit also removed those accesses from the I2C remove callbacks.
Restore the detach call, but remove the demod .release callback.
vidtv_demod_state is owned by the I2C client and is already freed by
vidtv_demod_i2c_remove(), so the frontend detach path should not free
it.
Tested with kmemleak and KASAN over 10 bind/unbind cycles. The reported
frontend and dvb_device leaks were present before the fix and were gone
after it, with no KASAN reports.

Setting the encoder's compressed CAPTURE format to a smaller resolution
than the raw OUTPUT format makes the encoder write past the end of the
CAPTURE buffer.
For a stateful encoder the CAPTURE width and height are not
client-settable; Documentation/userspace-api/media/v4l/dev-encoder.rst
specifies them as "ignored (read-only)" on VIDIOC_S_FMT. vicodec only
implements half of that: vidioc_s_fmt_vid_out() derives the CAPTURE coded
size and sizeimage from the OUTPUT format, but S_FMT on the CAPTURE queue
overwrites them. The encoder then takes its geometry from the OUTPUT
queue alone, and v4l2_fwht_encode() gets no destination length.
Overwrite the requested width and height with the OUTPUT queue's coded
dimensions in vidioc_try_fmt_vid_cap(), making them read-only as the
interface requires.

A capture format whose width or height is one more than a multiple of 16
makes the FWHT codec write one 8x8 block row, or column, past the end of
the capture plane, and read the same block out of the reference frame for
P-coded frames.
vic_round_dim() is documented to round a frame dimension up so that both
the luma and the chroma plane end up a multiple of 8, but it only rounds
the chroma plane:
round_up((dim) / (div), 8) * (div)
For div == 2 the result is a multiple of 16 in every case but one: when
dim % 16 == 1, dim / div is already a multiple of 8 and the macro returns
dim - 1. encode_plane() and decode_plane() round the same dimension with
round_up(dim, 8), which yields dim + 7 -- one block more than the coded
dimension that sized the buffer.
On a KASAN-enabled kernel, a 641x360 YUYV P-frame triggers:
BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in add_deltas+0x450/0xcc0
Read of size 1 at addr ffff888009070800 by task trigger_bin/70

fwht_decode_frame+0x173/0x620

device_run+0x6bb/0x1850
Round the dimension itself up to a multiple of 8 * div. The rounding
changes only for div == 2 and dim % 16 == 1, and MAX_WIDTH and MAX_HEIGHT
are both multiples of 16, so the rounded value still fits the advertised
limits.

vsensor->pixel_rate->val is a plain s32 field. Declaring the local
"pixel_rate" variable as u64 misrepresented its actual range and made
do_div()'s divisor look wider than the 32-bit division it actually

V4L2_CID_TRANS_NUM_BUFS controls how many buffer pairs a vim2m
mem2mem job processes before the job is completed. The driver stores
the value in ctx->translen and device_work() uses it later to decide
whether the current transaction should continue.
Letting userspace change this control while streaming is active can
make a queued job observe a different transaction length than the one
it started with. That leaves the transaction state inconsistent with
the buffers currently queued for the job.
Grab the transaction buffer count control while either queue is
streaming, and release it only after both queues have stopped
streaming. The V4L2 control framework then rejects changes with
-EBUSY while the value is in use, while still allowing userspace to
configure the value before streaming starts.
Keep the control handler alive until after v4l2_m2m_ctx_release(),
since releasing the mem2mem context can call stop_streaming(), which
now ungrabs the control.

vimc_capture_enum_framesizes() looks up the requested format using
vimc_pix_map_by_code(), which searches the pix map table by media
bus code (MEDIA_BUS_FMT_*).
However, v4l2_frmsizeenum::pixel_format holds a V4L2 pixel format
(V4L2_PIX_FMT_*), not a media bus code, so valid pixel formats end
up being rejected with -EINVAL.
Fix this by using vimc_pix_map_by_pixelformat() instead, which
performs the lookup by pixel format as the ioctl expects.

The vivid metadata output emulation only works if the
video input is configured for a webcam. That makes no sense,
and it is in fact a copy-and-paste from the metadata capture
support.
Always allow metadata output, just make sure that when the
metadata is processed it only sets the brightness/saturation/
hue/contrast controls if they have been defined: if vivid was
instantiation without video capture support, then those controls
are missing.

vidioc_s_fmt_vid_out() sizes the encoder CAPTURE buffer from the
compressed descriptor pixfmt_fwht, whose sizeimage_mult is 3:
coded_w * coded_h * 3 + sizeof(struct fwht_cframe_hdr). fwht_encode_frame()
encodes one plane per component, and an incompressible plane takes the
FWHT_FRAME_UNENCODED path in encode_plane(), copying the plane verbatim.
For a 4-component pixel format all four planes are full resolution
(width_div == height_div == 1), so a frame that forces every plane
through the unencoded fallback writes
sizeof(struct fwht_cframe_hdr) + 4 * coded_w * coded_h bytes, overrunning
the plane by coded_w * coded_h, which can result in corruption
of adjacent kernel heap memory.
Bump pixfmt_fwht.sizeimage_mult from 3 to 4, matching the largest
components_num among the supported raw formats, so the capture buffer is
always large enough for the unencoded fallback.

The vivid_update_format_cap/out() functions must only be called if the
capture/output queue are not busy. But for the controls that select
the CROP/COMPOSE/SCALE capability that is not checked.
Only when streaming starts will they be set to 'grabbed' and it is
impossible to change the control, but between REQBUFS and STREAMON you
are still allowed to set these controls. Since vivid_update_format_cap/out

While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily
see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having
to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust
against changes to the struct definition.
The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct
i2c_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union.
While touching all these arrays, unify usage of whitespace and commas.
This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation
in source form benefits. The former was confirmed with x86 and arm64

vidtv_psi_ts_psi_write_into [1].
vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() can return NULL, but vidtv_mux_push_si() does
not check for this before dereferencing the returned pointer to access
the continuity counter. This leads to a general protection fault when
accessing a near-NULL address.
The root cause is that vidtv_mux_pid_ctx_init() does not check the
return value of vidtv_mux_create_pid_ctx_once() for PMT section PIDs.
If the allocation fails, the PID context is never created, but init
returns success. The subsequent vidtv_mux_push_si() call then gets
NULL from vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() and crashes.
Fix both the root cause (add error check in vidtv_mux_pid_ctx_init
for PMT PIDs) and add defensive NULL checks in vidtv_mux_push_si for
all vidtv_mux_get_pid_ctx() calls.

pixel_rate and hblank as read only parameter. vblank can be configured
to match the desired frame rate.
Default values are, pixel_rate - 160 MHz, hblank - 800.
vblank defaults to an equivalent value of 30 fps for resolutions less than
or equal to 1920x1080 and 10 fps for higher resolutions. For higher
resolutions, modify pixel_rate in the driver code.
fps = pixel_rate / ((width + hblank) * (height + vblank))
minimum vblank - 4, maximum vblank - 65535
The configured fps delay is pre-calculated into jiffies and

syzbot reported a general protection fault in vidtv_psi_desc_assign [1].
vidtv_psi_pmt_stream_init() can return NULL on memory allocation
failure, but vidtv_channel_pmt_match_sections() does not check for
this. When tail is NULL, the subsequent call to
vidtv_psi_desc_assign(&tail->descriptor, desc) dereferences a NULL
pointer offset, causing a general protection fault.
Add a NULL check after vidtv_psi_pmt_stream_init(). On failure, clean
up the already-allocated stream chain and return.

syzbot reported a memory leak in vidtv_psi_service_desc_init [1].
When vidtv_start_streaming() fails inside vidtv_start_feed(), the
nfeeds counter is left incremented even though no feed was actually
started. This corrupts the driver state: subsequent start_feed calls
see nfeeds > 1 and skip starting the mux, while stop_feed calls
eventually try to stop a non-existent stream.
This state corruption can also lead to memory leaks, since the mux
and channel resources may be partially allocated during a failed
start_streaming but never cleaned up, as the stop path finds
dvb->streaming == false and returns early.
Fix by decrementing nfeeds back when start_streaming fails, keeping
the counter in sync with the actual number of active feeds.

vidtv_ts_null_write_into() and vidtv_ts_pcr_write_into() take their
argument structs by value, causing MSAN to report uninit-value warnings.
While only vidtv_ts_null_write_into() has triggered a report so far,
both functions share the same issue.
Fix by passing both structs by const pointer instead, avoiding the
stack copy of the struct along with its MSAN shadow and origin metadata.
The functions do not modify the structs, which is enforced by the const
qualifier.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata() function takes a boolean
copy_frame_flags argument. When true, it causes the function to copy the
V4L2_BUF_FLAG_KEYFRAME, V4L2_BUF_FLAG_BFRAME and V4L2_BUF_FLAG_PFRAME
flags from the output buffer to the capture buffer.
There is no use cases in any upstream driver for copying the flags.
KEY/P/B frames are properties of the bitstream buffer in some formats.
Once decoded, this is no longer a property of the video frame and should
be discarded.
It was considered useful to know if an uncompressed frame was decoded
from a KEY/P/B compressed frame, and to preserve that information if
that same uncompressed frame was passed through another M2M device (e.g.
a scaler). However, the V4L2 documentation makes it clear that the flags
are meant for compressed frames only.
Drop the copy_frame_flags argument from v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata().
The change to drivers was performed with the following Coccinelle

The v4l2_m2m_get_vq() function never returns NULL.
In the set format handler, the check may have been intended to catch
invalid format types, but that's not needed as the V4L2 core picks the
appropriate VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl handler based on the format type, so the
type can't be incorrect.
In the get format handler, the return value is not used for any purpose
other than the NULL check, which was therefore probably intended to
catch invalid format types. That's not needed for the same reason as in
the set format handler.
Drop the unneeded return value checks and, as the function has no side

vidtv_channel_si_init() creates a temporary list (program, service, event)
and ownership of the memory itself is transferred to the PAT/SDT/EIT
tables through vidtv_psi_pat_program_assign(),
vidtv_psi_sdt_service_assign(), vidtv_psi_eit_event_assign().
The problem here is that the local pointer where the memory ownership
transfer was completed is not initialized to NULL. This causes the
vidtv_psi_pmt_create_sec_for_each_pat_entry() function to fail, and
in the flow that jumps to free_eit, the memory that was freed by
vidtv_psi_*_table_destroy() can be accessed again by
vidtv_psi_*_event_destroy() due to the uninitialized local pointer, so it
is freed once again.
Therefore, to prevent use-after-free and double-free vulnerability,
local pointers must be initialized to NULL when transferring memory
ownership.

The vivid driver supports the <Vendor Command With ID> message,
but if the Vendor ID of the received message didn't match the Vendor ID
of the CEC Adapter, then it ignores it (good) and returns 0 (bad).
It should return -ENOMSG to indicate that other followers should be
asked to handle it. Return code 0 means that the driver handled it,
which is wrong in this case.
As a result, userspace followers never get the chance to process such a
message.
Refactor the code a bit to have the function return -ENOMSG at the end,
drop the default case, and ensure that the message handlers return 0.
That way 0 is only returned if the message is actually handled in the
vivid_received() function.
