Use KVVec::zeroed() instead of KVVec::from_elem() to allocate and
zero-initialize the command and continuation payload buffers.
Also use KVVec::zeroed() in the test helper read_payload().

The GSP posts each message for the CPU to the GSP-to-CPU queue and then
raises SWGEN0, a software-generated interrupt cause of its falcon. GIN
delivers SWGEN0 to the CPU on vector 155.
A thread waiting for a command reply was the only reader of the queue,
so an event posted between commands stayed unread until the next
command was sent.
Register a threaded handler on the GSP vector. Draining the queue takes
the command-queue mutex, which can sleep, so the top half reads and
writes only registers and wakes the IRQ thread to drain the queue.
Every existing read of the queue asks for one message type and waits on
a deadline, so add a drain that logs and consumes whatever the GSP has
already posted and returns at once.
When a falcon cause other than SWGEN0 stays set after its latch is
cleared, as the Blackwell fault-containment and ECC causes do, disable
the GSP vector rather than retrigger the falcon. A retrigger would
re-emit the cause at once, and the CPU would take the same interrupt
again and again.

The GSP posts unsolicited events on the same queue as command replies,
so a caller waiting for one message consumes whatever arrives first and
reads again.
Every read started a fresh five-second timeout, so a steady stream of
events extended the wait without bound. The two boot-time waits for an
unsolicited event also released the queue mutex between reads, so a
command sent from another thread could consume the event and leave the
waiter to time out.
Compute one deadline when the wait begins and pass the time remaining to
each read, and hold the queue mutex across the whole wait. Put the loop
in one helper that the command reply wait and both boot-time event waits
share.

The GSP posts unsolicited events on the same queue as command replies,
so a receive that asks for one message type has to report that the
message at the queue head was a different one.
That case returned ERANGE, which means a value outside a valid range and
says nothing about a message.
Return ENOMSG, no message of the desired type, instead.

The GSP posts unsolicited messages on the same queue that carries
command replies: log records, OS error and robust-channel records, and
lifecycle notices.
nova-core discarded every message that was not the reply that a caller
was waiting for, and an unrecognized function code aborted the in-flight
command. The GSP's error reports never reached the kernel log.
Log every non-reply message according to its function code, on the
receive path that already reads it, and leave the in-flight command
waiting for its reply. Event payloads, such as XID numbers and log
contents, are not decoded.

Nova core will be used to export core functionality to other drivers
which will bind to it via auxiliary bus devices. Add a NovaCoreApi type
which drivers can use to call nova-core methods.
Auxiliary bus drivers obtain a NovaCoreApiHandle for a particular GPU
using NovaCoreApi::of(). This takes a reference to a bound auxiliary bus
device and checks that its registration data is a NovaCoreApi. The
NovaCoreApi itself is then accessed by passing a closure to
NovaCoreApiHandle::with().
Closure based access is used because NovaCoreApi cannot be assumed to be
covariant over its lifetime. It references the Gpu, which will carry
locks around types holding device resources, making it invariant.
Covariant sub-fields can still be returned directly from the closure
thanks to the lifetime bound on registration_data_with().

Sending a command to the GSP ends by writing the GSP doorbell, a BAR0
register, so every send path through the command queue needs the BAR0
mapping. A command too large for one queue element goes out as a first
element followed by continuation records, so the send path has four
functions.
Nova-core passed the mapping down from the caller as an argument, which
was threaded through all four functions, and every caller of a send had
to carry it as well.
Store the mapping in the command queue and drop the argument. The queue
lives exactly as long as the mapping does, since both belong to the
bound device.

A TLV firmware file carries the GSP firmware image as a section
extracted from the original ELF, and the section is not itself an ELF.
Before the driver moved to TLV firmware files, it parsed that ELF
itself, and it named the framebuffer range that holds the image for the
ELF. The range kept the name through the move.
Rename the field for the framebuffer range that holds the GSP firmware
image, from elf to fw_image. After this, the following:
$ cd drivers/gpu/nova-core
$ grep -iw ELF
comes up empty. :)

In order to boot the GSP, nova-core loads the GSP firmware image into
system memory, and the GPU copies it into the framebuffer, the GPU's own
memory. The GPU finds the GSP firmware image's pages via "radix3", a
three-level page table of 4 KiB pages that the driver builds. Today the
table exists as fields within the GSP firmware wrapper, which is fine
because there is only one radix3 consumer.
The upcoming r000 series[1], however, introduces a second radix3 caller:
the ucodes firmware image. That is because the GSP has been changed, so
that it automatically fetches the subset of ucodes that it requires,
thus reducing the size of the GSP image. This is a helpful change for
the firmware situation overall, but it will require nova-core to load
and provide ucodes, in much the same way that it was loading and
providing the GSP firmware image.
Therefore, split out radix3 into its own module.

rust: dma: tie DMA allocations to the device's bound lifetime
DMA allocations carry device resources (e.g. IOMMU mappings) that must
not outlive the device's bound lifetime. Add lifetime parameters to the

at compile time that they are freed before the device is unbound.

the series, GpuMm only owns the PRAMIN window for direct VRAM access;
the buddy allocator and TLB manager are added later when those backing
types become available.
This provides a clean ownership model where GpuMm provides accessor
methods for its components that can be used for memory management
operations, and lets follow-on patches (such as the PRAMIN aperture

rust: io: support register projections and remove relative registers
Currently registers work for all untyped I/O regions, which is not ideal.
It allows registers defined for device A to work for another device B and
there is no safeguarding at all.
Change this by requiring a base type for registers. `register!` can still
define registers on untyped `Region`s, although users would need to do so
explicitly and supply a concrete type.
This change makes it possible to use projection for relative registers;
relative registers can be implemented by defining new types for the I/O
subregions and just define registers for these subregion types like normal
registers.
This actually results in more ergnomic code for users of relative registers
(currently only nova-core), because non-array registers can be written to
with
#[...]
struct Subregion(...);
register! {
base: MyBase;
SUBREGION: Subregion @ ...;
}
register! {
base: Subregion;
REG(u32) @ .. { .. }
}
let subregion = io_project!(bar, build: SUBREGION);
subregion.read(REG)
subregion.write_reg(reg)
instead of
struct SubregionType;
struct Subregion;
impl RegisterBase<SubregionType> for Subregion {
const BASE: usize = ...;
}
register! {
REG(u32) @ Subregion + .. { .. }
}
bar.read(REG::of::<Subregion>())
bar.write(WithBase::of::<Subregion>(), reg)
This also allows a lot more code sharing between I/O projection and
`register!` macro.
The expressiveness power of Rust declarative macros is becoming limiting,
so it is converted to a proc macro before new features being added to it.
This is a stable tag for other trees to merge.

Add a lifetime parameter to Coherent and CoherentBox that ties the DMA
allocation to the device's bound scope, ensuring it is freed before the
device is unbound.
DMA allocations carry device resources (e.g. IOMMU mappings) that must

there was no compile-time enforcement that a Coherent or CoherentBox is

In the GSP->CPU messaging path, the code reads the write pointer from GSP,
reads the response and advances the read pointer.
A LOAD->LOAD ordering is required after the write pointer read and the data
read. Add it as this is currently missing.
A LOAD->STORE ordering is required after the data read and the advance of
read pointer. Currently a Rust `SeqCst` barrier is used, which roughly maps
to `smp_mb(Full)`; this however does not order DMA operations (notably on
ARM, the generate barrier orders inner shareable and not outer shareable,
which is ordered by `dma_mb`). This ordering does not need to be in between
read pointer read and write, because it's for ordering between the ring
buffer data and the pointer; the RMW operation does not internally need a
barrier (nor it has to be atomic, as CPU pointers are updated by CPU only),
so move it to before the RMW sequence for clarity.

In the CPU->GSP messaging path, the code reads the read pointer from GSP,
writes the command, advances the write pointer, and then notifies the GSP.
A LOAD->STORE ordering is needed after reading the read pointer from GSP
and writing the command. Control dependency exists here which provide the
needed ordering, but it's best to avoid depending on it.
A STORE->STORE ordering is needed after the command write and before the
write pointer advance. This is currently incorrectly done after the write
pointer advance (and before GSP notification), but this can cause issue if
GSP is still processing ring buffer, as it may observe the write pointer
advance before command write. Thus move this barrier to be before the write
pointer advance. Note that barriers are not needed between write pointer
advance and GSP notification, as MMIO accessors already carries the
required barrier.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/driver-core/driver-core
Pull driver core updates from Danilo Krummrich:
"container_of:
- Apply typeof_member(), remove the local __mptr variable to
eliminate variable shadowing warnings on nested container_of()
calls, and remove unnecessary parentheses
core:
- Add driver name to probe debug print for initcall_debug
- Avoid repeatedly printing the same 'Fixed dependency cycle' log
- Unwind device_add() on attribute creation failure in
attribute_container_add_class_device()
- Remove statistics group if encryption group creation fails in
transport_add_class_device()
debugfs:
- Fix lockdown check for mmap_prepare()
- Warn if file creation failed due to uninitialized debugfs
device property:
- Implement fw_devlink support for software nodes by adding
software_node_add_links(), which creates fwnode links from
DEV_PROP_REF properties to enable automatic probe ordering. Add
kunit-managed fwnode helpers and test coverage
- Fix infinite loop in fwnode_for_each_child_node() when the
secondary fwnode has more than one child. Add test cases
- Fix out-of-bounds access in software_node_get_reference_args() when
called with index -1 (UINT_MAX)
- Refactor to use RAII approach with __free()
- Add Bartosz Golaszewski as software node reviewer
firmware loader:
- Fix race where a sysfs fallback request can complete before being
queued as pending, leading to a use-after-free on the next fallback
request
- Reject 0-size built-in firmware and fail the build on empty
firmware files in CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE
kobject:
- Provide __KOBJ_ATTR() and __KOBJ_ATTR_RO/WO() initialization macros
and allow the constification of kobject attributes, enabling them
to reside in read-only memory
platform:
- Provide platform_device_set_of_node(), platform_device_set_fwnode(),
and platform_device_set_of_node_from_dev() helpers that encapsulate
firmware node reference counting for dynamically allocated platform
devices
Convert all in-tree users that manually assigned dev.of_node or
dev.fwnode, fixing a pre-existing refcount bug in powermac. Switch
to counting references of all firmware node types, not only OF
nodes
- Unify the release path for dynamically allocated platform devices
by removing platform_device_release_full(). Amend the fwnode setter
API contract to warn if a primary software node is overwritten. Add
KUnit tests for correct software node removal on device
unregistration
Rust:
- Auxiliary:
- Add registration_data_with() closure-based API for invariant
ForLt types
- Debugfs:
- Migrate BinaryWriter and BinaryReaderMut trait requirements
from kernel::transmute traits to zerocopy traits
- Device:
- Add BoundInternal device context and InternalBoundContext trait
for bus abstractions that need internal access to a bound
device.
- Make the lifetime on Core and CoreInternal invariant to prevent
coercion to shorter lifetimes
- Devres:
- Fix race between concurrent revokers where the losing revoker
could return before the winning revoker finished dropping the
inner data, causing use-after-free.
- Ensure revocation is complete before the device finishes
unbinding by making the synchronization bidirectional.
- Add DevresLt<F: ForLt>, a wrapper around Devres that shortens
'static back to the caller's borrow scope. Implement ForLt and
CovariantForLt for Bar, IoMem, and ExclusiveIoMem
- Driver:
- Switch from index-based to pointer-based device ID info lookup,
storing static references in driver_data. Centralize device ID
handling in device_id.rs, removing the open-coded ACPI/OF
matching logic and duplicate ID table from driver.rs
- I/O:
- Make I/O regions typed (with a dynamically-sized Region type
for the existing untyped case), create view types representing
subregions of a mapped I/O region, and add io_project!() for
safely creating subviews.
- Split Io into a base trait (IoBase) and an extension trait (Io)
with a blanket implementation, preventing implementers from
overriding provided methods that unsafe code relies on.
- Add a SysMem backend for shared system memory with volatile
access, and make Coherent implement Io via an I/O view type.
Add IoSysMap as sum type of Mmio and SysMem. Add copying
methods (memcpy_{from,to}io()) and read_val()/write_val() for
typed access.
- Replace dma_read!()/dma_write!() with io_read!()/io_write!()
for primitives and copying methods for aggregates; drop the old
macros. Convert nova-core to use I/O projection.
- Fix internal shortcut rule dispatch in the register!() macro,
remove unused rule arguments, and use path fragments for alias
destinations
- IRQ:
- Make irq::Registration compatible with lifetime-bound drivers
by removing the 'static bound on Handler/ThreadedHandler and
replacing Devres<RegistrationInner> with direct
request_irq()/free_irq() calls. Handlers can now directly own
lifetime-bound device resources
- PCI:
- Convert IrqVectorRegistration to a lifetime-annotated owning
type, giving drivers explicit control over the allocation
lifetime. IrqVector embeds a resolved IrqRequest, making the
conversion infallible. Remove the redundant
request_irq()/request_threaded_irq() wrappers from pci::Device.
- Add pci_irq_type() C helper and expose it via irq_type() on
IrqVectorRegistration and IrqVector, returning PCI_IRQ_MSIX,
PCI_IRQ_MSI, or PCI_IRQ_INTX.
- Mark pci::Device refcount methods inline
- Serdev:
- Add Rust abstractions for the serial device bus, including
serdev::Driver trait, serdev::Device wrapping struct
serdev_device, and serdev::Adapter implementing
RegistrationOps. Includes a sample driver. Markus Probst takes
over as serdev maintainer for both C and Rust code
- Misc:
- Split ForLt into a base trait (providing the Of<'a> GAT) and an
unsafe CovariantForLt subtrait guaranteeing covariance,
enabling invariant types (e.g. those containing Mutex<&'bound T>)
to participate in the ForLt abstraction.
- Fix Coherent read past EOF returning -ERANGE instead of zero.
- Fix firmware example UB by avoiding null-pointer ARef
misc:
- Avoid iattr allocation in kernfs listxattr by using
kernfs_iattrs_noalloc().
- Unregister SoC bus on early device registration failure.
- Remove unused DMA_FENCE_TRACE Kconfig symbol.
- Fix /sys/module path in comment.
- Refactor ISA bus init to remove nested blocks.
- Remove redundant nodemask clears in numa_init().
- Add kernel-doc for fwnode_operations and sys_soc.h, mark
internal property data as private for kernel-doc, and add
property.h/fwnode.h to driver-api infrastructure docs.
- Add MAINTAINERS entry for sys_soc.h"

The `dma_handle` naming is inherited from the C API, but what this
really describes is the device DMA address; everything named
`dma_handle` is actually a `dma_addr_t`.
This naming introduces some confusion on the Rust API side, as handles
are supposed to be opaque tokens, yet we were doing address computation
on values returned by `dma_handle`.
Rename `dma_handle` to `dma_address` while nova-core is still its only
user.

Switch the GSP firmware loader from the legacy binary format to the
TLV format. This change requires the new TLV versions of the r570.144
firmware images.
Unlike the other TLV firmware images, gsp.tlv contains a pointer to
the actual GSP firmware file instead of its contents. This allows
each small gsp.tlv file to contain the distinct metadata for each GPU
while still allowing the very large gsp.bin to be shared by all
GPUs.
One key piece of metadata is the signature. The legacy GSP firmware
image is an ELF file that contains multiple sections that needed
to be parsed, and the driver needed to determine which section is
relevant for the GPU. Instead, gsp.tlv contains the pre-processed
metadata, so all the driver needs to do is to extract it.

`FbLayout` is currently used for both pre and post FSP architectures. It
contains ranges for each region of framebuffer, but on post FSP
architectures, only the size is actually used. The region locations are
decided by ACR, which runs as part of the GSP-FMC, not by the driver.
The driver only provides the sizes. So, for post FSP architectures
`FbLayout` contains essentially guesses for the offsets. Instead, make
separate types so that we only store the information that's actually
needed, rather than keeping around offsets that may not be correct.

GSP-RM needs a larger WPR2 heap when booting in vGPU mode. The heap size
is firmware-dependent, so it should come from the generated firmware
bindings instead of being open-coded in nova-core.
Pass the detected vGPU state into the framebuffer layout calculation. Keep
baremetal boots on the existing heap sizing path, and use the 570.144
vGPU default heap binding only when vGPU is enabled. The same state match
also sets the VF partition count, so disabled and invalid 0/1-VF states do
not enter the vGPU heap path.

The `Fsp` instance was only used in the Hopper+ boot path, and
consequently built locally (and immediately dropped) in it.
This worked well as a temporary measure, but the FSP is a GPU
sub-device, so its lifetime should match the GPU rather than a single
boot invocation.
It will also be needed in other parts of the driver, for instance vGPU.
Thus, create the `Fsp` instance in the `Gpu` constructor and store it
there, passing it to the GSP boot as a mutable reference using
`GspBootContext`. This makes the `Fsp` available even after the GSP is
booted.

`Falcon` instances retain references tied to the lifetime of the bound
GPU. `GspBootContext` currently uses that same lifetime for its own
borrows of the `Falcon` instances and other references.
But these lifetimes are independent: the references captured by a
`Falcon` remain valid for the GPU lifetime, while the context only
borrows the `Falcon` for the duration of a boot or unload operation.
This distinction is hidden for shared references by covariance, but
cannot be ignored anymore if the context carries mutable references to
GPU subdevices, as will happen for the `Fsp` and the `Falcon`s.
Thus, give `GspBootContext` separate lifetimes for its subdevice borrows
and the GPU resources captured by those subdevices, and update its users
accordingly.

We want to move the `Fsp` instance into `Gpu`, which will require
passing it as a mutable reference in `GspBootContext`, since
`Fsp::boot_fmc` is a mutable method. In order to use the mutable
references it contains, `GspBootContext` must also be mutable.
We will also follow up by making some methods of the `Falcon`s mutable,
which also requires passing them as mutable references.
Thus, make the `GspBootContext` passed to `Gsp::boot` and `Gsp::unload`
mutable, and pass mutable references to it to the GSP boot HAL methods.

By being in the TU102 HAL, we already know that the GSP boot method is
the SEC2 Booter, so the only variable is whether the FWSEC bootloader is
used or not. Since `Chipset` also includes the variants that boot FSP,
querying it for that information introduces a potential code path (a
chipset that boots via FSP) that the current code doesn't handle.
Turn the use of the FWSEC bootloader into a property of the `Tu102` HAL,
and give GA102+ chipsets their own instance with that property set to
`false`. This removes the invalid code path and the only use of
`Chipset` is now to load the correct firmware files.
This also removes some uses of the `Chipset::needs_fwsec_bootloader`
method and prepares the ground for removing it.
