The GSP posts each message for the CPU to the GSP-to-CPU queue and then
raises SWGEN0, a software-generated interrupt cause of its falcon. GIN
delivers SWGEN0 to the CPU on vector 155.
A thread waiting for a command reply was the only reader of the queue,
so an event posted between commands stayed unread until the next
command was sent.
Register a threaded handler on the GSP vector. Draining the queue takes
the command-queue mutex, which can sleep, so the top half reads and
writes only registers and wakes the IRQ thread to drain the queue.
Every existing read of the queue asks for one message type and waits on
a deadline, so add a drain that logs and consumes whatever the GSP has
already posted and returns at once.
When a falcon cause other than SWGEN0 stays set after its latch is
cleared, as the Blackwell fault-containment and ECC causes do, disable
the GSP vector rather than retrigger the falcon. A retrigger would
re-emit the cause at once, and the CPU would take the same interrupt
again and again.

A GPU interrupt can be lost in the MSI or MSI-X allocation, in the GIN
tree's enables, or in the rearm, and every one of those failures looks
the same: no interrupt arrives, and no register or log line says which
one broke.
Add a probe-time self-test, built under NOVA_CORE_SELFTESTS, that
latches the CPU doorbell vector through the GIN software trigger and
waits for a registered handler to service it. One delivery would pass
with a broken rearm, because the first message-signaled interrupt
arrives whether or not the driver rearms, so the test triggers twice and
waits for the first handler to finish before the second trigger. It runs
after GFW boot and before GSP boot, on a quiesced tree, and fails probe
unless both deliveries arrive, each finds only the doorbell pending, and
the leaf ends clear.
The doorbell has the same vector on every supported GPU, so the test
names it without asking GSP-RM. It allocates the PCI vectors for the
doorbell's subtree and releases them before returning, so under MSI-X
the delivery also exercises that subtree's table entry.

The GPU boots its own firmware, GFW, out of reset, and the driver must
not program the GPU until GFW reports completion.
nova-core waited for GFW inside the Gpu constructor, which also boots
the GSP. Code that has to run after GFW and before GSP boot, such as a
probe-time hardware self-test, had nowhere to go.
Move the wait code into an associated function so it can also be called
by test code that requires it before the Gpu instance is constructed.

Add an extensible info ioctl and use it to report basic GPU information.
One of the first things userspace needs to know about a GPU is its
architecture and which chip it is, so add those as the first fields in
the GPU info result. The chip identifier is opaque to userspace and is
only meaningful when compared against the values of enum
drm_nova_chipid.
The ioctl selects an information type by ID and writes the result through
a sized userspace buffer. The kernel truncates results to the supplied
size, allowing information structures to grow and new logical information
groups to be added without introducing new ioctls. Passing a NULL data
pointer returns the size of the requested information structure instead.

The chip identifier uniquely identifies a GPU chip and needs to be
exposed to user-space so it can look up chip specific properties that
cannot be derived from the architecture alone. This adds a public enum
to the userspace headers for each chip ID. Nova-core can then use this
enum to define its chipsets.
The values are opaque to user-space. They may be compared against the
enum to identify a chip but user-space must not assume the values carry
any particular meaning or encoding.
This does create a coupling between nova-drm and nova-core whereby
nova-core depends on the values defined by the user-space API for
nova-drm. However this is entirely appropriate as nova-core must be
bound by the UAPI headers as the enum values are read by nova-core and
passed through to user-space.
Note that nova-core currently refers to the chipid as a chipset. This
isn't ideal given that chipid is the preferred and more accurate term
and is what should be exposed via the uAPI. Therefore a future patch
series will be posted that aligns nova-core internals to using chipid
rather than chipset.

Sending a command to the GSP ends by writing the GSP doorbell, a BAR0
register, so every send path through the command queue needs the BAR0
mapping. A command too large for one queue element goes out as a first
element followed by continuation records, so the send path has four
functions.
Nova-core passed the mapping down from the caller as an argument, which
was threaded through all four functions, and every caller of a send had
to carry it as well.
Store the mapping in the command queue and drop the argument. The queue
lives exactly as long as the mapping does, since both belong to the
bound device.

rust: dma: tie DMA allocations to the device's bound lifetime
DMA allocations carry device resources (e.g. IOMMU mappings) that must
not outlive the device's bound lifetime. Add lifetime parameters to the
DMA allocation types (Coherent, CoherentBox, CoherentHandle) to enforce
at compile time that they are freed before the device is unbound.
Since DMA types with lifetime parameters are exposed through debugfs in
the nova-core driver, first drop the unnecessary T: 'static bound from
the debugfs ScopedDir file creation methods by formalizing a type
invariant on FileOps.

Introduce GpuMm as the centralized GPU memory manager. At this point in
the series, GpuMm only owns the PRAMIN window for direct VRAM access;
the buddy allocator and TLB manager are added later when those backing
types become available.
This provides a clean ownership model where GpuMm provides accessor
methods for its components that can be used for memory management
operations, and lets follow-on patches (such as the PRAMIN aperture
self-tests) reference `pramin_mut()` cleanly.

Add a lifetime parameter to Coherent and CoherentBox that ties the DMA
allocation to the device's bound scope, ensuring it is freed before the
device is unbound.
DMA allocations carry device resources (e.g. IOMMU mappings) that must
not outlive the device's bound lifetime. Without a lifetime parameter,
there was no compile-time enforcement that a Coherent or CoherentBox is
dropped before the device is unbound.

Move PMC register definitions (NV_PMC_BOOT_0, NV_PMC_BOOT_42) and
their associated implementations from the root regs.rs file into the
gpu module that own them, in the new gpu/regs.rs file.
This follows the same pattern established by previous commits for
GSP, PDISP, PFB, and PBUS registers: register definitions move to
the module that owns them, visibility changes to pub(super), and
cross-module access is provided via pub(crate) helper functions.
Since falcon.rs (outside the gpu module) also reads NV_PMC_BOOT_0 for
its raw value, a pub(crate) helper function boot_0_raw() is added in
gpu.rs to provide that access without exposing the register type
directly.

GSP boot needs a stable view of vGPU state before it starts building the
boot-time data structures that depend on SR-IOV and firmware policy. That
state must be derived once from the PCI VF count and the FSP PRC vGPU mode
knob before booting GSP.
Add VgpuManager to detect and retain the vGPU state during GPU
construction. Keep the manager separate from the detected state because
later vGPU milestones will add vGPU resources and lifecycle state to it.
Keep the vGPU capability gate local to the vGPU module with per-chip HAL
modules. Treat failures to detect the optional vGPU state as disabled so
they do not prevent a bare-metal probe, and log both the failure and the
detected state where the manager is constructed.

Currently the lifetime on `Core` and `CoreInternal` is covariant. This
means that they can be coerced into shorter living lifetimes. On `probe`
function, signature has `&'bound Device<Core<'a>>`; the type's wellformness
would imply `'a: 'bound` and thus the type can be coerced `&'bound
Device<Core<'bound>>`, defeating the purpose of having the lifetime bound
to prevent users of the `Core` type to escape the function.
Fix this by making the lifetime invariant, so the coercion is impossible.
The lifetime here only needs to be "branded" so it does not coerce or unify
with other lifetimes, so we do not need to ensure `'bound: 'a`.
This requires modifying `nova-core` which relies on this implied bound due
to pre-2024 capture rule. The "use" bound can be removed if built with
edition 2024.

The `Fsp` instance was only used in the Hopper+ boot path, and
consequently built locally (and immediately dropped) in it.
This worked well as a temporary measure, but the FSP is a GPU
sub-device, so its lifetime should match the GPU rather than a single
boot invocation.
It will also be needed in other parts of the driver, for instance vGPU.
Thus, create the `Fsp` instance in the `Gpu` constructor and store it
there, passing it to the GSP boot as a mutable reference using
`GspBootContext`. This makes the `Fsp` available even after the GSP is
booted.

`GspBootContext` contains the resources required to boot the GSP. As it
turns out, this is also the context required for unloading it.
Reflect that fact by replacing the arguments of `Gsp::unload` and
`UnloadBundle::run` with the `GspBootContext`. This symmetry between
`Gsp::boot` and `Gsp::unload` will also be convenient when we want to
make these methods generic over the boot context corresponding to the

Store the bound device and `BAR0` mapping in `Falcon` instead of passing
them through every `Falcon` operation. This simplifies the `Falcon` API and
removes repeated `dev`/`bar` plumbing from reset, load, boot, mailbox, DMA,

`FalconHal` now receives a reference to a `Falcon` and uses its methods and

The GSP static information is useful during regular driver runtime;
however it is currently obtained from `Gsp::boot`, with no elegant way
to pass it back to the caller.
Solve this by moving the code acquiring it to a dedicated method of
`Gsp` that can be called as soon as the `Gsp` is booted. This allows us
to obtain and display the static information from the `Gpu` constructor,
and to store the static information for later use.
Its location at the end of `Gsp::boot` was a bit out-of-place anyway:
technically, the GSP is considered booted after we have received the
`GspInitDone` message, so anything that happens afterwards is not part
of the boot sequence anymore.

`Gpu` currently owns the state needed to unload the GSP directly. This
means that `unload_bundle` has to be the last initialized field: once GSP
boot succeeds, any later initialization failure would leave `Gpu`
partially initialized, and its `PinnedDrop` implementation would not run.
This prevents adding fallible `Gpu` fields that need to query the GSP
after it has booted.
Move the GSP state and unload bundle into a dedicated pinned
`GspResources` object. Once that subobject has been initialized, its
`PinnedDrop` implementation will run even if initialization of a later
`Gpu` field fails, ensuring that the GSP unload sequence is executed.

The GspHal trait methods boot() and post_boot() accept a long list of
individual parameters (dev, bar, chipset, gsp_falcon, sec2_falcon) that
are threaded through the entire GSP boot call chain. This makes the
signatures unwieldy and difficult to extend as new boot-time context
(e.g. vGPU state) is introduced.
Introduce a GspBootContext struct that bundles the common boot
parameters into a single object, and refactor the GspHal trait to accept
&GspBootContext instead of individual arguments. The struct also exposes
a dev() helper with proper lifetime annotation so that HAL
implementations can extract the device reference without reborrowing
constraints.
Update both TU102 and GH100 HAL implementations to extract their
required parameters from the context struct, and simplify the call sites
in Gsp::boot() accordingly.

Currently Nova code uses `&'a Bar0` a lot. This is `&'a Mmio`, where `Mmio`
represents an owned MMIO region; this type only exists as a target for
`Deref` so `Bar` and `IoMem` can share code and should be avoided to be
named directly. The upcoming I/O projection series would make `Io` trait
much simpler to implement, and thus the owned MMIO type would be removed
in favour of direct `Io` implementation on `Bar` and `IoMem`.
Add lifetime parameter to `Bar0<'a>` and change it to be alias of `&'a
pci::Bar<'a, ..>`. This also prepares Nova core so that when I/O projection
series land, this could be changed to using a MMIO view type directly which
avoids double indirection.

When probing the driver, the FWSEC-FRTS firmware creates a WPR2 secure
memory region to store the GSP firmware, and the Booter Loader loads and
starts that firmware into the GSP, making it run in RISC-V mode.
These operations need to be reverted upon unloading, particularly the
WPR2 secure region creation, as its presence prevents the driver from
subsequently probing.
Thus, prepare the Booter Unloader and FWSEC-SB firmware images when
booting the GSP, so they can be executed at unbind time to put the GPU

not great for several reasons, notably that it can still access shared
