2026-05-08drm/xe/multi_queue: Add helpers to access CS QUEUE TIMESTAMP from lrcUmesh Nerlige Ramappa
In secondary queue LRCs, the QUEUE TIMESTAMP register is saved and restored allowing us to view the individual queue run times. Add helpers to read this value from the LRC. 2026-05-08drm/xe/multi_queue: Store primary LRC and position info in LRCUmesh Nerlige Ramappa
For an LRC belonging to the secondary queue, in order to check if its context group is active, we need to check the LRC of the primary queue. In addition to that we want to compare the secondary queue position to CSMQDEBUG register to check if the queue itself is active. To do so, store primary LRC and position information in the LRC. A note on references involved: - In general the Queue takes a ref on its LRC. - In addition, for multi-queue, a. Primary Queue takes a ref for each Secondary LRC. b. Each Secondary Queue takes a ref to the Primary Queue In the current patch, each LRC in the queue group is storing a pointer to primary LRC. Both primary and secondary LRCs are freed only when primary queue is destroyed. At this time, all secondary queues are already destroyed, so there is no one using secondary LRCs. We should be good without taking any additional references. 2026-05-05drm/xe/guc: Exclude indirect ring state page from ADS engine state sizeSatyanarayana K V P
The engine state size reported to GuC via ADS should only include the engine state portion and should not include the indirect ring state page that comes after it in the context image. The GuC uses this size to overwrite the engine state in the LRC on watchdog resets and we don't want it to overwrite the indirect ring state as well. 2026-03-10drm/xe: Allow per queue programming of COMMON_SLICE_CHICKEN3 bit13Lionel Landwerlin
Similar to i915's commit cebc13de7e704b1355bea208a9f9cdb042c74588 ("drm/i915: Whitelist COMMON_SLICE_CHICKEN3 for UMD access"), except that instead of putting the register on the allowlist for UMD to program, the KMD is doing the programming at context initialization based on a queue creation flag. This is a recommended tuning setting for both gen12 and Xe_HP platforms. If a render queue is created with DRM_XE_EXEC_QUEUE_SET_STATE_CACHE_PERF_FIX, COMMON_SLICE_CHICKEN3 will be programmed at initialization to enable the render color cache to key with BTP+BTI (binding table pool + binding table entry) instead of just BTI (binding table entry). 2026-02-27drm/xe/queue: Call fini on exec queue creation failTomasz Lis
Every call to queue init should have a corresponding fini call. Skipping this would mean skipping removal of the queue from GuC list (which is part of guc_id allocation). A damaged queue stored in exec_queue_lookup list would lead to invalid memory reference, sooner or later. Call fini to free guc_id. This must be done before any internal LRCs are freed. Since the finalization with this extra call became very similar to __xe_exec_queue_fini(), reuse that. To make this reuse possible, alter xe_lrc_put() so it can survive NULL parameters, like other similar functions. v2: Reuse _xe_exec_queue_fini(). Make xe_lrc_put() aware of NULLs. 2026-02-19drm/xe: Add facility to lookup the value of a register in a default LRCMatt Roper
An LRC is stored in memory as a special batchbuffer that hardware will execute to re-load state when switching to the context; it's a collection of register values (encoded as MI_LOAD_REGISTER_IMM commands) and other state instructions (e.g., 3DSTATE_*). The value that will be loaded for a given register can be determined by parsing the batchbuffer to find MI_LRI commands and extracting the value from the offset/value pairs it contains. Add functions to do this, which will be used in a future patch to help verify that our expected reg_sr programming is in place. The implementation here returns the value as soon as it finds a match in the LRC. Technically a register could appear multiple times (either due to memory corruption or a hardware defect) and the last value encountered would be the one in effect when the context resumes execution. We can adjust the logic to keep looking and return the last match instead of first in the future if we encounter real-world cases where this would assist with debugging. 2026-01-10drm/xe: Avoid toggling schedule state to check LRC timestamp in TDRMatthew Brost
We now have proper infrastructure to accurately check the LRC timestamp without toggling the scheduling state for non-VFs. For VFs, it is still possible to get an inaccurate view if the context is on hardware. We guard against free-running contexts on VFs by banning jobs whose timestamps are not moving. In addition, VFs have a timeslice quantum that naturally triggers context switches when more than one VF is running, thus updating the LRC timestamp. For multi-queue, it is desirable to avoid scheduling toggling in the TDR because this scheduling state is shared among many queues. Furthermore, this change simplifies the GuC state machine. The trade-off for VF cases seems worthwhile. v5: - Add xe_lrc_timestamp helper (Umesh) v6: - Reduce number of tries on stuck timestamp (VF testing) - Convert job timestamp save to a memory copy (VF testing) v7: - Save ctx timestamp to LRC when start VF job (VF testing) Signed-off-by: Matthew Brost <matthew.brost@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Umesh Nerlige Ramappa <umesh.nerlige.ramappa@intel.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260110012739.2888434-8-matthew.brost@intel.com

2025-08-04drm/xe/vf: Refresh utilization buffer during migration recoveryTomasz Lis
The WA buffer we use to capture context utilization contains GGTT references. This means its instructions have to be either fixed or re-emitted during VF post-migration recovery. This patch adds re-emitting content of the utilization WA BB during the recovery. The way we write to vram requires scratch buffer to be used before the whole block is memcopied. We are re-using a scratch buffer introduced in earlier part of the recovery. 2025-08-04drm/xe/vf: Rebase MEMIRQ structures for all contexts after migrationTomasz Lis
All contexts require an update of state data, as the data includes GGTT references to memirq-related buffers. Default contexts need these references updated as well, because they are not refreshed when a new context is created from them. The way we write to vram requires scratch buffer to be used before the whole block is memcopied. Since using kalloc() within specific recovery functions would lead to unintended relations between locks, we are allocating the buffer earlier, before any locks are taken. 2025-05-12drm/xe: Add WA BB to capture active context utilizationUmesh Nerlige Ramappa
Context Timestamp (CTX_TIMESTAMP) in the LRC accumulates the run ticks of the context, but only gets updated when the context switches out. In order to check how long a context has been active before it switches out, two things are required: (1) Determine if the context is running: To do so, we program the WA BB to set an initial value for CTX_TIMESTAMP in the LRC. The value chosen is 1 since 0 is the initial value when the LRC is initialized. During a query, we just check for this value to determine if the context is active. If the context switched out, it would overwrite this location with the actual CTX_TIMESTAMP MMIO value. Note that WA BB runs as the last part of the context restore, so reusing this LRC location will not clobber anything. (2) Calculate the time that the context has been active for: The CTX_TIMESTAMP ticks only when the context is active. If a context is active, we just use the CTX_TIMESTAMP MMIO as the new value of utilization. While doing so, we need to read the CTX_TIMESTAMP MMIO for the specific engine instance. Since we do not know which instance the context is running on until it is scheduled, we also read the ENGINE_ID MMIO in the WA BB and store it in the PPHSWP. Using the above 2 instructions in a WA BB, capture active context utilization. v2: (Matt Brost) - This breaks TDR, fix it by saving the CTX_TIMESTAMP register "drm/xe: Save CTX_TIMESTAMP mmio value instead of LRC value" - Drop tile from LRC if using gt "drm/xe: Save the gt pointer in LRC and drop the tile" v3: - Remove helpers for bb_per_ctx_ptr (Matt) - Add define for context active value (Matt) - Use 64 bit CTX TIMESTAMP for platforms that support it. 2024-10-08drm/xe/guc: Plumb GuC-capture into dev coredumpZhanjun Dong
When we decide to kill a job, (from guc_exec_queue_timedout_job), we could end up with 4 possible scenarios at this starting point of this decision: 1. the guc-captured register-dump is already there. 2. the driver is wedged.mode > 1, so GuC-engine-reset / GuC-err-capture will not happen. 3. the user has started the driver in execlist-submission mode. 4. the guc-captured register-dump is not ready yet so we force GuC to kill that context now, but: A. we don't know yet if GuC will be successful on the engine-reset and get the guc-err-capture, else kmd will do a manual reset later OR B. guc will be successful and we will get a guc-err-capture shortly. So to accomdate the scenarios of 2 and 4A, we will need to do a manual KMD capture first(which is not be reliable in guc-submission mode) and decide later if we need to use that for the cases of 2 or 4A. So this flow is part of the implementation for this patch. Provide xe_guc_capture_get_reg_desc_list to get the register dscriptor list. Add manual capture by read from hw engine if GuC capture is not ready. If it becomes ready at later time, GuC sourced data will be used. Although there may only be a small delay between (1) the check for whether guc-err-capture is available at the start of guc_exec_queue_timedout_job and (2) the decision on using a valid guc-err-capture or manual-capture, lets not take any chances and lock the matching node down so it doesn't get re-claimed if GuC-Err-Capture subsystem is running out of pre-cached nodes. 2023-12-21drm/xe/debugfs: Add dump of default LRCs' MI instructionsMatt Roper
For non-RCS engines, nearly all of the LRC state is composed of MI instructions (specifically MI_LOAD_REGISTER_IMM). Providing a dump interface allows us to verify that the context image layout matches what's documented in the bspec, and also allows us to check whether LRC workarounds are being properly captured by the default state we record at startup. For now, the non-MI instructions found in the RCS and CCS engines will dump as "unknown;" parsing of those will be added in a follow-up patch. v2: - Add raw instruction header as well as decoded meaning. (Lucas) - Check that num_dw isn't greater than remaining_dw for instructions that have a "# dwords" field. (Lucas) - Clarify comment about skipping over ppHWSP. 2023-12-12drm/xe: Introduce a new DRM driver for Intel GPUsMatthew Brost
Xe, is a new driver for Intel GPUs that supports both integrated and discrete platforms starting with Tiger Lake (first Intel Xe Architecture). The code is at a stage where it is already functional and has experimental support for multiple platforms starting from Tiger Lake, with initial support implemented in Mesa (for Iris and Anv, our OpenGL and Vulkan drivers), as well as in NEO (for OpenCL and Level0). The new Xe driver leverages a lot from i915. As for display, the intent is to share the display code with the i915 driver so that there is maximum reuse there. But it is not added in this patch. This initial work is a collaboration of many people and unfortunately the big squashed patch won't fully honor the proper credits.
