2026-07-23drm/tests: shmem: Set DMA mask to 64-bit in drm_gem_shmemJosé Expósito
drm_gem_shmem_test_purge [1] and drm_gem_shmem_test_get_pages_sgt [2] intermittently fail on ppc64le and s390x CI systems with a DMA address overflow: DMA addr 0x0000000100307000+4096 overflow (mask ffffffff, bus limit 0) WARNING: kernel/dma/direct.h:114 dma_direct_map_sg+0x778/0x920 drm_gem_shmem_test_purge: ASSERTION FAILED at drivers/gpu/drm/tests/drm_gem_shmem_test.c:330 Expected sgt is not error, but is: -5 The call chain leading to the failure is: drm_gem_shmem_test_purge() / drm_gem_shmem_test_get_pages_sgt() drm_gem_shmem_get_pages_sgt() drm_gem_shmem_get_pages_sgt_locked() [drm_gem_shmem_helper.c] dma_map_sgtable() [mapping.c] __dma_map_sg_attrs() dma_direct_map_sg() [direct.c] dma_direct_map_phys() [kernel/dma/direct.h] dma_capable() Checks addr against DMA mask -> FAILS: addr > 0xFFFFFFFF The root cause is that KUnit devices are initialized with a 32-bit DMA mask (DMA_BIT_MASK(32)) in lib/kunit/device.c. On ppc64le and s390x systems with physical memory above 4GB, page allocations can land at addresses that exceed this mask. When drm_gem_shmem_get_pages_sgt() attempts to DMA-map these pages via dma_map_sgtable(), the DMA layer rejects the mapping because the physical address overflows the 32-bit mask. The failure is intermittent because pages may or may not be allocated above 4GB on any given run depend on memory pressure. Fix by setting a 64-bit DMA mask on the device before calling drm_gem_shmem_get_pages_sgt() for all tests, following the same pattern already used in drm_gem_shmem_test_obj_create_private(). 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

2025-04-29drm/tests: shmem: Fix memleakMaxime Ripard
The drm_gem_shmem_test_get_pages_sgt() gets a scatter-gather table using the drm_gem_shmem_get_sg_table() function and rightfully calls sg_free_table() on it. However, it's also supposed to kfree() the returned sg_table, but doesn't. This leads to a memory leak, reported by kmemleak. Fix it by adding a kunit action to kfree the sgt when the test ends. 2024-08-02drm/test: fix the gem shmem test to map the sg table.Dave Airlie
The test here creates an sg table, but never maps it, when we get to drm_gem_shmem_free, the helper tries to unmap and this causes warnings on some platforms and debug kernels. This also sets a 64-bit dma mask, as I see an swiotlb warning if I stick with the default 32-bit one.
