Commit 0a8224058a58 ("drm/imagination: Fix page count for page table for
map() interface") passed the device address to
pvr_mmu_op_context_create(), but the preallocation is still sized from
device_addr + sgt_offset with an exclusive end. The offset into the
object's pages has no place in a device-virtual range, and the exclusive
end allocates one table too many when the range ends on a table
boundary.
Count the tables from device_addr and the inclusive end of the range.
The new calculation does not take page table indices into account. This
fixes another issue with the previous implementation, where the
difference between start and end indices could underflow when a mapping
crossed a page table boundary. This would lead to the driver
preallocating a huge number of MMU pages, exhausting system memory and
triggering an out of memory panic.

When a map overlaps part of an existing mapping, pvr_vm_gpuva_remap()
splits the mapping into prev/next parts covering what the request did
not take, instead of creating something new. It gets two things wrong.
- A GEM reference is taken for each part but it's never needed and never
dropped, so it leaks one reference per split (remap-next-in-2m in
tests/imagination/pvr_vm_map.c):
CRITICAL: 33558528 bytes of shmem still held after close
- The parts still belong to the original object being split, but
pvr_vm_gpuva_remap() links them to ctx->gpuvm_bo, the new object's
vm_bo:
prev_va --obj--> BO_A BO_B <--obj-- vm_bo (ctx->gpuvm_bo)
\___________link___________/ (mismatch: BO_A != BO_B)
drm_gpuva_link() catches the mismatch:
WARNING: drivers/gpu/drm/drm_gpuvm.c:2108 at drm_gpuva_link+0x2ec/0x310
drm_WARN_ON(obj != vm_bo->obj)
Call trace:
drm_gpuva_link
pvr_vm_gpuva_remap
__drm_gpuvm_sm_map
pvr_vm_map
pvr_ioctl_vm_map
Link them to op->remap.unmap->va->vm_bo instead.
The locking of the GPUVA lists of the other objects touched by a split is
not addressed here; it is handled by switching the GPUVM to immediate
mode.

The firmware reconstruction count controls accesses to the request's
fixed freelist ID array and the copy into the fixed response array.
Neither access currently bounds the count to those protocol arrays.
Clamp the count to the request capacity, which is shared by the response
layout, and use that count consistently for reconstruction and response
publication. Keep the firmware recovery exchange instead of dropping an
oversized request without a response, as discussed with the firmware
maintainer.
The issue was found by our static-analysis tool.

The GPU virtual start address wasn't included in the calculation for the
amount of page tables required for mapping a BO object in map() interface.
It resulted in map failure later due to not enough pages at L0/L1 level.
Update pvr_mmu_op_context_create() interface to pass device address as well
to allow correct calculation for page table memory.
If L0 tables cover 2MB (0x200000), the range defined by device address
0x80001ff000 (general heap at 2MB - 4KB) and size 0x2000 (two 4KB pages)
requires two L0 pages to be mapped, but without the base
address a range of 0x2000 computes to a single L0 page which is not enough.

Map failure from pvr_mmu_map_sgl() interface was not returned correctly
to pvr_mmu_map() interface. This resulted in pvr_mmu_map() interface to
continue instead of returning an error to caller.
Fix it by returning a proper error code from pvr_mmu_map_sgl() interface.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brgl/linux
Pull another power sequencing update from Bartosz Golaszewski:
"A single tree-wide rename of two of the public functions to better
reflect their actual semantics:
- rename pwrseq_power_on/off() to pwrseq_enable/disable() tree-wide"
* tag 'pwrseq-updates-for-v7.3-rc1-part2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brgl/linux:
power: sequencing: rename pwrseq_power_on/off() to pwrseq_enable/disable()
|
|
The way power sequencing works means that a call to pwrseq_power_on()
does not necessarily result in the pwrseq target being powered-on at
that time: it may have already been powered on before. Similarly: a call
to pwrseq_power_off() does not have to result in an actual powering off
of resources: there may still be other users that requested a power-on
before.
We will also introduce the concept of "non-controllable" pwrseq targets
soon which further increases the disconnect between the naming
convention and the actual semantics.
What consumers of pwrseq descriptors actually do is: they *vote* for a
powering on of a given target or retract that vote. These operations
could be called get/put in line with runtime PM but this could become
confusing since we already provide pwrseq_get/put() for a different
purpose. pwrseq_vote_on/off() also have been rejected as unusual in
the tree.
Change the name of the two functions to pwrseq_enable/disable() which
better reflects their purpose and semantics and also mirrors other
enable-counted resources like regulators and clocks. No functional change
intended.
If at any point users need to know *when* the exact power event happens,
we can provide that information in the form of a notifier.

Trace point pvr_job_submit_fw() is used to trace job submission to
the FW. Currently it is recorded when a command is written to the Client

Move trace recording after writing command to the Kernel circular buffer to
better represent command submission to the FW.

The pvr_job_create tracepoint was using pvr_fw_object::fw_addr_offset
to display the firmware address of the render target structure attached
to a job, but that's an offset into the firmware heap, not the expected
full address, which is more useful in general e.g. for cross referencing
against firmware logs.
Use pvr_fw_object_get_fw_addr() to get the full firmware address.

Support for this GPU is now in a very good state, with only a handful of
Vulkan CTS tests still failing when testing using CTS version 1.4.5.3 on
the BeagleV-Ahead SBC. With the firmware having been upstreamed [1], now
is the time to promote this GPU from experimental to supported.

The list of supported GPUs contains the GPU model, along with the SoCs
they're found in. The SoC information can easily get out of date, as
typically GPU models will be integrated into many different SoCs and
upstream support for these can potentially happen over a long stretch
of time without necessarily requiring any GPU driver changes.
Replace the SoC information with the BVNC instead. This uniquely identifies
a GPU implementation and is useful in cases where a GPU model may have
multiple implementations due to, e.g. hardware errata having been fixed,
and the driver doesn't yet support all of them.

The drm gpuvm code doesn't protect find operation against map operation,
and the driver needs to ensure a map operation shouldn't happen when a
find operation is in progress.
In some cases a find operation will be in progress when doing map/unmap
operations, and the find operation will do a NULL pointer dereference.
An example of the stack trace of such NULL dereference is shown below:
```
Unable to handle kernel access to user memory without uaccess routines at
virtual address 0000000000000010
[<ffffffff01e989d4>] drm_gpuva_find+0x28/0x6c [drm_gpuvm]
```
As all occurences of drm_gpuva_find*() are already guarded by
vm_ctx->lock, make pvr_vm_map() to acquire this lock to prevent
disturbing any find operation. This fixes the NULL deference problem in
drm_gpuva_find*().

Using IS_ERR() leads to the kernel oops reported below. It can be

pvr_set_uobj_array() copies an array of kernel objects to a userspace
array whose element size is described by out->stride. When out->stride
is different from the kernel object size, the slow path advances the
userspace pointer by the kernel object size and the kernel pointer by the
userspace stride.
This reverses the intended layout. For larger userspace strides, later
copies read from the wrong kernel addresses. For smaller userspace
strides, later copies are written at the wrong userspace offsets. The
padding clear is also done only for the first element instead of the
padding area for each element.
Advance the userspace pointer by out->stride and the kernel pointer by
obj_size, and clear per-element padding while the current userspace
pointer is still available.

For a few subtypes of DRM_IOCTL_PVR_DEV_QUERY, driver was overriding
the returned size unconditionally. This would have resulted in
increase of reported size beyond the amount of data returned to
userspace when args->size < size of query structure.
Updated behaviour matches with the description of
drm_pvr_ioctl_dev_query_args.size and written byte length.
None of the structures of DRM_IOCTL_PVR_DEV_QUERY changed after addition,
so change will not break any compatibility with earlier version.

drm_sched_entity_flush() ensures all pending jobs are completed and
drm_sched_entity_fini() ensures no further submission is allowed as
per expectation from pvr_context_kill_queues(). Double call to
drm_sched_entity_fini() is misuse of the API so keep call only in
pvr_context_create() failure path.

The DRIVER_GEM_GPUVA feature flag is currently only used to control two
behaviors within the DRM core:
- calling drm_gem_gpuva_init() during
GEM object initialization
- creating the "gpuvas" debugfs entry
drm_gem_gpuva_init() is a plain INIT_LIST_HEAD() and therefore is cheap
to run for every GEM object. The DRM_DEBUGFS_GPUVA_INFO macro is only
referenced by GPU-VA capable drivers, so clearing the feature bit does
not cause any unrelated drivers to get the "gpuvas" debugfs node. The
flag doesn't have any relevant purpose (e.g. gating ioctl handlers or MM
logic) and doesn't provide any practical benefit.
Remove the flag definition and drop it from all drivers that use it,
call drm_gem_gpuva_init() unconditionally and clear the driver features
bit in DRM_DEBUGFS_GPUVA_INFO.
