git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core Pull driver core and debugfs updates from Greg KH: "Here is the big set of driver core and debugfs updates for 6.14-rc1. Included in here is a bunch of driver core, PCI, OF, and platform rust bindings (all acked by the different subsystem maintainers), hence the merge conflict with the rust tree, and some driver core api updates to mark things as const, which will also require some fixups due to new stuff coming in through other trees in this merge window. There are also a bunch of debugfs updates from Al, and there is at least one user that does have a regression with these, but Al is working on tracking down the fix for it. In my use (and everyone else's linux-next use), it does not seem like a big issue at the moment. Here's a short list of the things in here: - driver core rust bindings for PCI, platform, OF, and some i/o functions. We are almost at the "write a real driver in rust" stage now, depending on what you want to do. - misc device rust bindings and a sample driver to show how to use them - debugfs cleanups in the fs as well as the users of the fs api for places where drivers got it wrong or were unnecessarily doing things in complex ways. - driver core const work, making more of the api take const * for different parameters to make the rust bindings easier overall. - other small fixes and updates All of these have been in linux-next with all of the aforementioned merge conflicts, and the one debugfs issue, which looks to be resolved "soon"" * tag 'driver-core-6.14-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core: (95 commits) rust: device: Use as_char_ptr() to avoid explicit cast rust: device: Replace CString with CStr in property_present() devcoredump: Constify 'struct bin_attribute' devcoredump: Define 'struct bin_attribute' through macro rust: device: Add property_present() saner replacement for debugfs_rename() orangefs-debugfs: don't mess with ->d_name octeontx2: don't mess with ->d_parent or ->d_parent->d_name arm_scmi: don't mess with ->d_parent->d_name slub: don't mess with ->d_name sof-client-ipc-flood-test: don't mess with ->d_name qat: don't mess with ->d_name xhci: don't mess with ->d_iname mtu3: don't mess wiht ->d_iname greybus/camera - stop messing with ->d_iname mediatek: stop messing with ->d_iname netdevsim: don't embed file_operations into your structs b43legacy: make use of debugfs_get_aux() b43: stop embedding struct file_operations into their objects carl9170: stop embedding file_operations into their objects ...
2025-01-15USB: Use str_enable_disable-like helpersKrzysztof Kozlowski
Replace ternary (condition ? "enable" : "disable") syntax with helpers from string_choices.h because: 1. Simple function call with one argument is easier to read. Ternary operator has three arguments and with wrapping might lead to quite long code. 2. Is slightly shorter thus also easier to read. 3. It brings uniformity in the text - same string. 4. Allows deduping by the linker, which results in a smaller binary file. 2024-11-04usb: use "prompt" instead of "bool" for choice promptsMasahiro Yamada
Since commit fde192511bdb ("kconfig: remove tristate choice support"), all choice blocks are now boolean. There is no longer a need to specify the choice type explicitly. Most choice blocks already use "prompt". Before the next commit removes support for the "bool" syntax in choice entries, this commit converts the remaining "bool" occurences under drivers/usb/. 2024-10-04usb: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/usb to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. 2024-05-22tracing/treewide: Remove second parameter of __assign_str()Steven Rostedt (Google)
With the rework of how the __string() handles dynamic strings where it saves off the source string in field in the helper structure[1], the assignment of that value to the trace event field is stored in the helper value and does not need to be passed in again. This means that with: __string(field, mystring) Which use to be assigned with __assign_str(field, mystring), no longer needs the second parameter and it is unused. With this, __assign_str() will now only get a single parameter. There's over 700 users of __assign_str() and because coccinelle does not handle the TRACE_EVENT() macro I ended up using the following sed script: git grep -l __assign_str | while read a ; do sed -e 's/\(__assign_str([^,]*[^ ,]\) *,[^;]*/\1)/' $a > /tmp/test-file; mv /tmp/test-file $a; done I then searched for __assign_str() that did not end with ';' as those were multi line assignments that the sed script above would fail to catch. Note, the same updates will need to be done for: __assign_str_len() __assign_rel_str() __assign_rel_str_len() I tested this with both an allmodconfig and an allyesconfig (build only for both). 2023-10-21usb: mtu3: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. The function mtu3_remove() can only return a non-zero value if ssusb->dr_mode is neiter USB_DR_MODE_PERIPHERAL nor USB_DR_MODE_HOST nor USB_DR_MODE_OTG. In this case however the probe callback doesn't succeed and so the remove callback isn't called at all. So the code branch resulting in this error path could just be dropped were it not for the compiler choking on "enumeration value 'USB_DR_MODE_UNKNOWN' not handled in switch [-Werror=switch]". So instead replace this code path by a WARN_ON and then mtu3_remove() be converted to return void trivially. 2023-07-25usb: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2022-08-05Merge tag 'trace-v6.0' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: - Runtime verification infrastructure This is the biggest change here. It introduces the runtime verification that is necessary for running Linux on safety critical systems. It allows for deterministic automata models to be inserted into the kernel that will attach to tracepoints, where the information on these tracepoints will move the model from state to state. If a state is encountered that does not belong to the model, it will then activate a given reactor, that could just inform the user or even panic the kernel (for which safety critical systems will detect and can recover from). - Two monitor models are also added: Wakeup In Preemptive (WIP - not to be confused with "work in progress"), and Wakeup While Not Running (WWNR). - Added __vstring() helper to the TRACE_EVENT() macro to replace several vsnprintf() usages that were all doing it wrong. - eprobes now can have their event autogenerated when the event name is left off. - The rest is various cleanups and fixes. * tag 'trace-v6.0' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace: (50 commits) rv: Unlock on error path in rv_unregister_reactor() tracing: Use alignof__(struct {type b;}) instead of offsetof() tracing/eprobe: Show syntax error logs in error_log file scripts/tracing: Fix typo 'the the' in comment tracepoints: It is CONFIG_TRACEPOINTS not CONFIG_TRACEPOINT tracing: Use free_trace_buffer() in allocate_trace_buffers() tracing: Use a struct alignof to determine trace event field alignment rv/reactor: Add the panic reactor rv/reactor: Add the printk reactor rv/monitor: Add the wwnr monitor rv/monitor: Add the wip monitor rv/monitor: Add the wip monitor skeleton created by dot2k Documentation/rv: Add deterministic automata instrumentation documentation Documentation/rv: Add deterministic automata monitor synthesis documentation tools/rv: Add dot2k Documentation/rv: Add deterministic automaton documentation tools/rv: Add dot2c Documentation/rv: Add a basic documentation rv/include: Add instrumentation helper functions rv/include: Add deterministic automata monitor definition via C macros ...

2022-04-21usb: mtu3: fix USB 3.0 dual-role-switch from device to hostMacpaul Lin
Issue description: When an OTG port has been switched to device role and then switch back to host role again, the USB 3.0 Host (XHCI) will not be able to detect "plug in event of a connected USB 2.0/1.0 ((Highspeed and Fullspeed) devices until system reboot. Root cause and Solution: There is a condition checking flag "ssusb->otg_switch.is_u3_drd" in toggle_opstate(). At the end of role switch procedure, toggle_opstate() will be called to set DC_SESSION and SOFT_CONN bit.
