qcom_geni_serial 894000.serial: serial engine reports 0 RX bytes in!
Adding UART port triggers probe of child serial devices - serdev and
eventually Qualcomm Bluetooth hci_qca driver. This opens UART port
which enables the interrupt before it got activated in
request_threaded_irq(). The issue originates in commit f3974413cf02
("tty: serial: qcom_geni_serial: Wakeup IRQ cleanup") and discussion on
mailing list [1]. However the above commit does not explain why the
uart_add_one_port() is moved above requesting interrupt.

On sc7180 Chromebooks, I did the following:
* Didn't enable earlycon in the kernel command line.
* Didn't enable serial console in the kernel command line.
* Didn't enable an agetty or any other client of "/dev/ttyMSM0".
* Added "kgdboc=ttyMSM0" to the kernel command line.
After I did that, I tried to enter kdb with this command over an ssh
session:
echo g > /proc/sysrq-trigger
When I did that the system just hung.
Although I thought I'd tested this scenario before, I couldn't go back
and find a time when it was working. Previous testing must have relied
on either the UART acting as the kernel console or an agetty running.
It turns out to be pretty easy to fix: we can just use
qcom_geni_serial_port_setup() as the .poll_init() function. This,
together with the patch ("serial: uart_poll_init() should power on the
UART"), allows the debugger to work even if there are no other users
of the serial port.

Drop the bogus uart_write_wakeup() from when setting up a new DMA
transfer, which does not free up any more space in the ring buffer.
Any pending writers will be woken up when the transfer completes.

a zero-length DMA transfer.

Fix what appears to be a copy-paste error that can lead to a leaked DMA
mapping on close() and failure to restart TX after the port is reopened.
Note that rx_dma_addr is generally NULL when
qcom_geni_serial_stop_tx_dma() is called as part of shutdown() (but
tx_dma_addr need not be).

A recent commit added back the calls top stop tx and rx to shutdown()
which had previously been removed by commit e83766334f96 ("tty: serial:
qcom_geni_serial: No need to stop tx/rx on UART shutdown") in order to
be able to use kgdb after stopping the getty.
Not only did this again break kgdb, but it also broke serial consoles
more generally by hanging TX when stopping the getty during reboot.
The underlying problem has been there since the driver was first merged
and fixing it is going to be a bit involved so simply stop calling the
broken stop functions during shutdown for consoles for now.

Commit 2aaa43c70778 ("tty: serial: qcom-geni-serial: add support for
serial engine DMA") renamed rx_fifo member to rf_buf which caused a
build failure when b8caf69a6946 ("tty: serial: qcom-geni-serial: fix
slab-out-of-bounds on RX FIFO buffer") from tty-linus was merged into
tty-next.
Fix the member variable name.

The qcom-geni-serial driver currently only works in SE FIFO mode. This
limits the UART speed to around 180 kB/s. In order to achieve higher
speeds we need to use SE DMA mode.
Keep the console port working in FIFO mode but extend the code to use DMA
for the high-speed port.

We don't stop transmissions in progress at shutdown. This is fine with
FIFO SE mode but with DMA (support for which we'll introduce later) it
causes trouble so fix it now.

Driver's probe allocates memory for RX FIFO (port->rx_fifo) based on
default RX FIFO depth, e.g. 16. Later during serial startup the
qcom_geni_serial_port_setup() updates the RX FIFO depth
(port->rx_fifo_depth) to match real device capabilities, e.g. to 32.
The RX UART handle code will read "port->rx_fifo_depth" number of words
into "port->rx_fifo" buffer, thus exceeding the bounds. This can be
observed in certain configurations with Qualcomm Bluetooth HCI UART
device and KASAN:

When we multiply an unsigned int by a u32 we still end up with an
unsigned int. That means we should specify "%u" not "%lu" in the
format code.
NOTE: this fix was chosen instead of somehow promoting the value to
"unsigned long" since the max baud rate from the earlier call to
uart_get_baud_rate() is 4000000 and the max sampling rate is 32.
4000000 * 32 = 0x07a12000, not even close to overflowing 32-bits.

return a sub-optimal clock rate.
In the logic around call to clk_round_rate(), for some corner conditions,
get_clk_div_rate() could return an sub-optimal clock rate. Also, if an
exact clock rate was not found lowest clock was being returned.
Search for suitable clock rate in 2 steps
a) exact match or within 2% tolerance
b) within 5% tolerance
This also takes care of corner conditions.

Disable MMIO tracing for geni serial driver to prevent excessive
logging. Any access over serial console would involve a lot of
TX and RX register accesses (and few others), so these MMIO
read/write trace events in these drivers cause a lot of unwanted
noise because of the high frequency of such operations and it is
not very useful tracing these events for such drivers.
Given we want to enable these trace events on development devices
(maybe not production devices) where performance also really matters
so that we don't regress other components by wasting CPU cycles and
memory collecting these traces, it makes more sense to disable these
traces from such drivers.
Also another reason to disable these traces would be to prevent
recursive tracing when we display the trace buffer containing
these MMIO trace events since writing onto serial console would
further record MMIO traces.

In suspend sequence stop_rx will be performed only if implementation for
start_rx callback is present.
Set qcom_geni_serial_start_rx as callback for start_rx so that stop_rx is
performed.

suitable frequency with call to clk_round_rate.
Replace the UART frequency table 'root_freq[]' with logic around
clk_round_rate() so that SoC details like the available clk frequencies
can change and this driver still works. This reduces tight coupling
between this UART driver and the SoC clk driver because we no longer
have to update the 'root_freq[]' array for new SoCs. Instead the driver
determines the available frequencies at runtime.

Currently, uart_console_write->putchar's second parameter (the
character) is of type int. It makes little sense, provided uart_console_write()
accepts the input string as "const char *s" and passes its content -- the
characters -- to putchar(). So switch the character's type to unsigned
char.
We don't use char as that is signed on some platforms. That would cause
troubles for drivers which (implicitly) cast the char to u16 when
writing to the device. Sign extension would happen in that case and the
value written would be completely different to the provided char. DZ is
an example of such a driver -- on MIPS, it uses u16 for dz_out in
dz_console_putchar().
Note we do the char -> uchar conversion implicitly in
uart_console_write(). Provided we do not change size of the data type,
sign extension does not happen there, so the problem is void.
This makes the types consistent and unified with the rest of the uart
layer, which uses unsigned char in most places already. One exception is
xmit_buf, but that is going to be converted later.

Device tree bindings do not specify "hsuart" aliases, instead all serial
ports should use "serial" alias name as noted by Rob Herring [1].
Make qcom_geni_serial driver use "serial" alias and fallback to "hsuart"
if one is not found.

In the previous patch, we introduced tty_get_char_size() and
tty_get_frame_size() for computing character and frame sizes,
respectively. Here, we make use of them in various tty drivers where
applicable.
The stats look nice: 12 insertions, 169 deletions.

The uart_unlock_and_check_sysrq() helper can be used to defer processing
of sysrq until the interrupt handler has released the port lock and is
about to return.
Since commit 81e2073c175b ("genirq: Disable interrupts for force
threaded handlers") interrupt handlers that are not explicitly requested
as threaded are always called with interrupts disabled and there is no
need to save the interrupt state when taking the port lock.
Instead of adding another sysrq helper for when the interrupt state has
not needlessly been saved, drop the state parameter from
uart_unlock_and_check_sysrq() and update its callers to no longer
explicitly disable interrupts in their interrupt handlers.

This reverts commit 048eb908a1f2 ("soc: qcom-geni-se: Add interconnect
support to fix earlycon crash")
ICC core and platforms drivers supports sync_state feature, which
ensures that the default ICC BW votes from the bootloader is not
removed until all it's consumers are probes.
The proxy votes were needed in case other QUP child drivers
I2C, SPI probes before UART, they can turn off the QUP-CORE clock
which is shared resources for all QUP driver, this causes unclocked
access to HW from earlycon.
Given above support from ICC there is no longer need to maintain
proxy votes on QUP-CORE ICC node from QUP wrapper driver for early
console usecase, the default votes won't be removed until real
console is probed.

For QUP IP versions 2.5 and above the oversampling rate is
halved from 32 to 16.
Commit ce734600545f ("tty: serial: qcom_geni_serial: Update
the oversampling rate") is pushed to handle this scenario.
But the existing logic is failing to classify QUP Version 3.0
into the correct group ( 2.5 and above).
As result Serial Engine clocks are not configured properly for
baud rate and garbage data is sampled to FIFOs from the line.
So, fix the logic to detect QUP with versions 2.5 and above.

As a part of system suspend uart_port_suspend is called from the
Serial driver, which calls set_mctrl passing mctrl as 0. This
makes RFR high(NOT_READY) during suspend.
Due to this BT SoC is not able to send wakeup bytes to UART during
suspend. Include if check for non-suspend case to keep RFR low
during suspend.

Commit c5cbc78acf69 ("tty: serial: qcom_geni_serial: Initialize baud
in qcom_geni_console_setup") fixed a bug by initting a variable that
was used in some cases without initialization. However, the "default"
baud rate picked by that CL was probably not the best choice. The
chances that anyone out there is trying to run a system with kernel
messages piped out over a 9600 baud serial port is just about nil.
Console messages are printed in a blocking manner. At 9600 baud we
print about 1 character per millisecond which means that printing a
40-byte message to the console will take ~40 ms. While it would
probably work, it's going to make boot _very_ slow and probably cause
the occasional timeout here and there in drivers (heck, even at 115200
console delays can wreck havoc).
This has already bit at least two people that I'm aware of that tried
to enable serial console by just adding "console=ttyMSM0" (instead of
"console=ttyMSM0,115200n8") to the command line, so it seems like it'd
be nice to fix.
Let's switch the default to 115200.

dev_pm_opp_of_remove_table() doesn't report any errors when it fails to
find the OPP table with error -ENODEV (i.e. OPP table not present for
the device). And we can call dev_pm_opp_of_remove_table()
unconditionally here.
While at it, create a new label to put clkname on errors.
