2014-05-05x86, vdso: Move syscall and sysenter setup into kernel/cpu/common.cAndy Lutomirski
This code is used during CPU setup, and it isn't strictly speaking related to the 32-bit vdso. It's easier to understand how this works when the code is closer to its callers. This also lets syscall32_cpu_init be static, which might save some trivial amount of kernel text. 2013-02-22x86-64: don't set the early IDT to point directly to 'early_idt_handler'Linus Torvalds
The code requires the use of the proper per-exception-vector stub functions (set up as the early_idt_handlers[] array - note the 's') that make sure to set up the error vector number. This is true regardless of whether CONFIG_EARLY_PRINTK is set or not. Why? The stack offset for the comparison of __KERNEL_CS won't be right otherwise, nor will the new check (from commit 8170e6bed465: "x86, 64bit: Use a #PF handler to materialize early mappings on demand") for the page fault exception vector. 2009-11-16x86: remove "extern" from function prototypes in <asm/proto.h>H. Peter Anvin
Function prototypes don't need "extern", and it is generally frowned upon to have them. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
2009-11-16x86, mm: Report state of NX protections during bootKees Cook
It is possible for x86_64 systems to lack the NX bit either due to the hardware lacking support or the BIOS having turned off the CPU capability, so NX status should be reported. Additionally, anyone booting NX-capable CPUs in 32bit mode without PAE will lack NX functionality, so this change provides feedback for that case as well. 2009-11-16x86, mm: Clean up and simplify NX enablementH. Peter Anvin
The 32- and 64-bit code used very different mechanisms for enabling NX, but even the 32-bit code was enabling NX in head_32.S if it is available. Furthermore, we had a bewildering collection of tests for the available of NX. This patch: a) merges the 32-bit set_nx() and the 64-bit check_efer() function into a single x86_configure_nx() function. EFER control is left to the head code. b) eliminates the nx_enabled variable entirely. Things that need to test for NX enablement can verify __supported_pte_mask directly, and cpu_has_nx gives the supported status of NX. Signed-off-by: H. 2009-07-02x86: fix power-of-2 round_up/round_down macrosLinus Torvalds
These macros had two bugs: - the type of the mask was not correctly expanded to the full size of the argument being expanded, resulting in possible loss of high bits when mixing types. - the alignment argument was evaluated twice, despite the macro looking like a fancy function (but it really does need to be a macro, since it works on arbitrary integer types) Noticed by Peter Anvin, and with a fix that is a modification of his suggestion (bug noticed by Yinghai Lu). 2009-01-29x86/Voyager: remove X86_BIOS_REBOOT Kconfig quirkIngo Molnar
Voyager has this Kconfig quirk: config X86_BIOS_REBOOT bool depends on !X86_VOYAGER default y Voyager should use the existing machine_ops.emergency_restart reboot quirk mechanism instead of a build-time quirk. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-10-22x86: Fix ASM_X86__ header guardsH. Peter Anvin
Change header guards named "ASM_X86__*" to "_ASM_X86_*" since: a. the double underscore is ugly and pointless. b. no leading underscore violates namespace constraints. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
