CONFIG_ARCH_ENABLE_THP_MIGRATION gates PMD-level migration entries.
PMD-level device-private entries use the same migration mechanism and
therefore require the same architecture support.
Upcoming PMD-level swap entries can use the same PMD softleaf helpers
without depending on page migration, so rename the architecture gate to
CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_PMD_SOFTLEAVES. This describes the PMD entry capability
rather than one current user of it.
This is a pure rename: the set of selecting architectures (x86, arm64,
s390, riscv, loongarch, and powerpc on PPC_BOOK3S_64) and the gating
semantics are unchanged.
No functional change intended.

Patch series "mm: preparatory patches for PMD level swap entries", v2.
This is the preparatory part of the PMD page table swapin work. The full
PMD swap entry series has been split into two parts:
1. this preparatory series, which contains the first 6 patches. Zi [1]
and Lance [2] suggested to separate this out from the core series.
2. the PMD swap entry core series, which depends on this one. I will
send this once the preparatory series is merged in mm-new as v3
as the combined is currently at v2 [1].
I have not marked this prep series as v3, as its not really adding
support for PMD swap entries.
This series does not introduce PMD swap entries and does not install any
new page-table entry type. It only cleans up existing PMD softleaf
helpers and call sites so the follow-up PMD swap entry series can be
smaller and easier to review.
It should be safe to merge independently. The patches are either helper
additions, refactors of existing open-coded logic, defensive checks that
preserve current migration/device-private behavior, or a mechanical rename
of the PMD softleaf Kconfig gate. The follow-up series depends on these
helpers, but this series does not depend on the follow-up series.
Patch breakdown:
1. mm: add softleaf_to_pmd() and convert existing callers
Add the PMD counterpart to softleaf_to_pte() and convert existing
swp_entry_to_pmd() users that are constructing PMD softleaf
entries.
2. mm: extract mm_prepare_for_swap_entries() helper
Hoist the "register mm with swapoff" double-checked-locking
pattern out of try_to_unmap_one() and copy_nonpresent_pte() so
future PMD-level users do not need another open-coded copy.
3. fs/proc: use softleaf_has_pfn() in pagemap PMD walker
Avoid assuming every non-present PMD softleaf entry encodes a PFN.
Existing migration/device-private behavior is preserved.
4. mm/huge_memory: move softleaf_to_folio() inside migration branch
Keep the folio lookup in change_non_present_huge_pmd() scoped to
the migration-entry branch that actually needs it.
5. mm/migrate_device: move softleaf_to_folio() inside device-private
branch
Apply the same ordering cleanup to migrate_vma_collect_pmd(): only
derive a folio after confirming the PMD entry is device-private.
6. mm: rename ARCH_ENABLE_THP_MIGRATION to ARCH_HAS_PMD_SOFTLEAVES
Rename the architecture gate to describe what it actually enables:
PMD softleaf entries. Migration remains the only current user in
this series; the follow-up series adds PMD swap entries.
This patch (of 6):
Add softleaf_to_pmd() as the PMD counterpart to softleaf_to_pte(),
completing the symmetry of the softleaf abstraction for page table leaf
entries.
The upcoming PMD swap entry support needs to construct PMD entries from
swap entries. Converting existing swp_entry_to_pmd() callers to
softleaf_to_pmd() in a prep patch keeps the feature patches focused on new
functionality rather than mixing refactoring with new code.

Let's clean it up a bit:
(1) There is no need to pass "full" anymore.
(2) No architecture overwrites it, and there isn't really a good reason
to do so when dealing with non-present PTEs.
(3) While at it, call it "non-present", similar to copy_nonpresent_pte()
and zap_nonpresent_ptes().
It's a shame that we have clear_non_present_ptes() correspond to
pte_clear() and clear_ptes() correspond to ptep_get_and_clear*().

In general, there is no good reason to do anything special when clearing
non-present PTEs.
In theory, HW that does have to invalidate TLBs for non-present PTEs could
benefit from a "full" parameter, but fortunately
pte_clear_not_present_full() is not wired up anymore ... and there would
have to be something very convincing for us to care about that to re-add
it.
So, let's just use pte_clear() directly now. To prevent the compiler
complaining on some configs about "set but not used" addr parameter,
silence that here.

Bootmem gigantic HugeTLB pages used to be validated again during
gather_bootmem_prealloc_node() and any cross-zone pages were discarded
there.
That validation is no longer needed. Cross-zone bootmem gigantic pages
are now detected during allocation and freed before they reach the later
bootmem gathering path, so the remaining pages are already zone-valid.
Remove the obsolete cross-zone validation, invalid-page freeing, and the
associated discarded-page accounting.

The early boot gigantic hugepage allocation helpers currently mix
allocation with huge_bootmem_page setup, and leave part of the
initialization flow in architecture code.
Refactor the interface to return the allocated huge page pointer and move
the huge_bootmem_page setup into the generic hugetlb code. This makes the
architecture-specific paths focus only on finding memory, while the common
code handles node placement and early page metadata setup in one place.
This also lets powerpc benefit from memblock_reserved_mark_noinit(), which
it did not enable before.
In addition, upcoming cross-zone validation for boot-time gigantic hugetlb
reservation is common logic. With this refactoring, that logic can stay
in the generic code instead of being duplicated in architecture-specific
paths.

Gigantic bootmem HugeTLB pages are currently initialized from
hugetlb_init(), but page_alloc_init_late() runs earlier and walks
pageblocks to determine zone contiguity.
If a bootmem HugeTLB region is marked noinit, set_zone_contiguous() can
observe still-uninitialized struct pages through
__pageblock_pfn_to_page(). This may not trigger an immediate failure, but
it can make set_zone_contiguous() compute the wrong zone contiguity state.
If extra poisoned-page checks are added in this path, such as
PF_POISONED_CHECK() in page_zone_id(), it can also trigger an early boot
panic.
Initialize gigantic bootmem HugeTLB struct pages from
page_alloc_init_late(), before zone contiguity is evaluated, so later page
allocator setup only sees valid struct page state. This also makes the
initialization order more natural, as struct pages should be initialized
before later code inspects them.

Add an unsigned long migrate_info member to the struct folio union and use
it to store migration state (anon_vma pointer and FOLIO_WAS_* markers)
instead of using folio->private. While at it, switch to bitwise OR.

Replace all 'int reason' function parameters that carry migrate_reason
values with the proper 'enum migrate_reason' type. This makes the intent
explicit and leverages compiler type checking. The affected subsystems
are:
- page_owner: __folio_set_owner_migrate_reason(),
folio_set_owner_migrate_reason()
- migrate: migrate_pages(), migrate_pages_sync(),
migrate_pages_batch(), migrate_folios_move(),
migrate_hugetlbs(), unmap_and_move_huge_page()
- hugetlb: move_hugetlb_state(), htlb_allow_alloc_fallback()
- trace: mm_migrate_pages and mm_migrate_pages_start events
The 'short last_migrate_reason' struct field and internal helper parameter
in page_owner are intentionally left as 'short' since they store per-page
metadata where size matters.

last_migrate_reason
The last_migrate_reason field uses -1 as a sentinel value to mean "no
migration has happened". Replace the four bare -1 occurrences by adding a
proper MR_NEVER member to enum migrate_reason, defining a corresponding
"never_migrated" string in the MIGRATE_REASON trace macro, and updating
the GDB page_owner script to use MR_NEVER instead of the hardcoded -1 so
that lx-dump-page-owner does not incorrectly report unmigrated pages as
migrated.
No functional change.

Patch series "mm/percpu: Fix possible NOFS/NOIO reclaim recursion", v4.
Commit 9a5b183941b5 ("mm, percpu: do not consider sleepable allocations
atomic") allowed GFP_NOFS and GFP_NOIO percpu allocations to use
pcpu_alloc_mutex and the chunk creation slow path. This restored the
allocation capability that was lost when those constrained allocations
were treated as atomic, but it also makes the percpu slow path visible to
callers from constrained reclaim contexts.
There are two related problems.
First, the create and populate slow paths do not fully preserve the
caller's allocation constraints. pcpu_alloc_noprof() derives pcpu_gfp
from the caller supplied GFP mask and passes it down to the percpu backing
page allocator. However, chunk creation calls pcpu_get_vm_areas(), and
chunk population can allocate temporary metadata or vmalloc page tables
while mapping backing pages. Those internal allocations can still use
GFP_KERNEL, so a caller using GFP_NOFS or GFP_NOIO can enter unconstrained
FS or IO reclaim while holding pcpu_alloc_mutex.
One possible case is blk-cgroup after commit 5d726c4dbeed ("blk-cgroup:
fix possible deadlock while configuring policy"). blkg_conf_prep() now
serializes against blkcg_deactivate_policy() with q->blkcg_mutex, and
blkg_alloc() uses GFP_NOIO because queue freeze and IO reclaim
dependencies can otherwise deadlock. If the percpu slow path loses that
GFP_NOIO context, direct reclaim or writeback can issue IO to a frozen
queue while q->blkcg_mutex is held.
Second, allowing sleepable GFP_NOFS/GFP_NOIO allocations to take
pcpu_alloc_mutex means that unconstrained backing allocations made under
the mutex can create an FS/IO reclaim dependency against a constrained
caller which already holds an FS or IO lock and then waits for
pcpu_alloc_mutex.
This series fixes those issues in three steps:
- pass the caller supplied GFP mask into pcpu_get_vm_areas() and use it
for vmalloc metadata and KASAN shadow allocations;
- pass the GFP mask through the chunk population path, including the
temporary pages array and vmalloc page table allocation scope;
- restrict percpu backing allocations performed while holding
pcpu_alloc_mutex to GFP_NOIO, so they cannot recurse into IO or FS
reclaim.
This keeps sleepable GFP_NOFS/GFP_NOIO percpu allocations working, while
avoiding the reclaim recursion risks introduced by making those
allocations eligible for the mutex-protected slow path.
This patch (of 4):
pcpu_alloc_noprof() derives pcpu_gfp from the caller supplied GFP mask and
passes it down to the backing percpu allocator. However, when the percpu
vmalloc allocator has to create a new chunk, pcpu_create_chunk() calls
pcpu_get_vm_areas() to allocate the corresponding vmalloc areas.
pcpu_get_vm_areas() currently performs its internal allocations with
GFP_KERNEL, including vmap area metadata, vm_struct metadata and KASAN
vmalloc shadow population. This means that a caller which deliberately
uses GFP_NOFS or GFP_NOIO can still enter FS or IO reclaim while creating
the vmalloc areas for a new percpu chunk.
One possible case is blk-cgroup after commit 5d726c4dbeed ("blk-cgroup:
fix possible deadlock while configuring policy"). blkg_conf_prep() now

So the concern is that the caller deliberately uses GFP_NOIO because it
may hold a lock which can be acquired after queue freeze, but the percpu
slow path can temporarily lose that allocation context.
Pass the caller supplied GFP mask from pcpu_create_chunk() to
pcpu_get_vm_areas(), and use it for the internal vmalloc metadata and
KASAN shadow allocations.

While the GCC and Clang compilers already define __ASSEMBLER__
automatically when compiling assembly code, __ASSEMBLY__ is a macro that
only gets defined by the Makefiles in the kernel. This can be very
confusing when switching between userspace and kernelspace coding, or when
dealing with uapi headers that rather should use __ASSEMBLER__ instead.
So let's standardize now on the __ASSEMBLER__ macro that is provided by
the compilers.
This is a completely mechanical patch (done with a simple "sed -i"
statement).

LRU add batches can be drained before they reach capacity. This can be a
source of LRU lock contention, but it is not currently possible to
attribute these drains to callers with existing tracepoints.
Add mm_lru_add_drain to report the CPU and lru_add batch count when an
lru_add batch is drained. This allows tracing to distinguish full drains
from partial drains and attribute them to the calling stack.
Add mm_lru_add_drain_all to capture callers of __lru_add_drain_all and
whether they set the force flag for all CPUs. The tracepoint resembles
the signature of the enclosing function, but is needed because of
potential inlining.
Note that DECLARE_TRACE() is used for these new trace hooks to avoid
creating a new trace event ABI.

x86 implements page attribute modification using its Change Page
Attributes (CPA) mechanism.
This tracks properties of ranges such as cache mode through x86 page
attributes, and as part of that logic manipulates kernel page tables.
Since commit 41d88484c71c ("x86/mm/pat: restore large ROX pages after
fragmentation") ranges of kernel page table entries can be collapsed into
huge page table entries as part of this logic.
As part of this collapse, it frees the page tables which the collapsed
entries previously pointed to, and it does so without any relevant locks
being held to preclude concurrent kernel page table walkers.
The only way this code can be reached is if CPA_COLLAPSE is specified, and
this is only set in set_memory_rox() via:
set_memory_rox()
-> change_page_attr_set_clr()
-> cpa_flush()
-> cpa_collapse_large_pages()
Notable users of this are execmem and bpf when manipulating executable
mappings.
However, this is problematic for ptdump as it walks ranges it does not own
and thus runs the risk of a use-after-free on page tables freed underneath
it.
In addition, concurrent CPA collapse operations are possible which can
also cause races.
Resolve the issue by acquiring the mmap write lock on init_mm across the
whole operation.
It is safe to acquire a sleeping lock as all the callers invoke
set_memory_rox() from process context and in any case,
change_page_attr_set_clr() calls vm_unmap_alias() which ultimately takes a
mutex, disallowing atomic context here.

Patch series "mm: fix UAF caused by race between ptdump and vmap pgtable
freeing", v5.
Kernel page table walkers fall into two broad categories - those ranges
where no exclusion is required via walk_kernel_page_table_range_lockless()
and those where exclusion is required via walk_kernel_page_table_range()
or walk_page_range_debug().
The former category is used only by arm64 arch code operating on ranges it
both wholly owns and does not concurrently write.
The latter category consists of kernel page table walkers operating on
ranges that are wholly owned (but which need exclusion against concurrent
writers).
The lock used for exclusion is the mmap lock, and for kernel ranges this
the mmap lock on init_mm.
ptdump is a special case being both the only user of
walk_page_range_debug(), and the only case in which it walks ranges it
does not own.
This presents a problem, as page tables may be freed under ptdump. And
indeed there is a use-after-free bug in the kernel as a result, which this
series addresses.
vmap promotes page tables to huge leaf entries where possible, freeing the
lower page table when it does. It does this with no meaningful locks held
against concurrent ptdump walks.
As a result, use-after-free can currently occur. This series addresses
the issue by having the vmap huge promotion logic acquire the mmap read
lock while both setting the huge page table entry and freeing the prior
leaf page table.
The ptdump code already acquires the mmap write lock, so by doing so we
ensure that the ptdump walker only ever observes either the huge page
table entry or the existing page table entry, and nothing is freed
underneath it.
A mitigation for this issue was already applied for arm64 in commit
fa93b45fd397 ("arm64: Enable vmalloc-huge with ptdump"), which this series
has to deal with carefully.
This mitigation resolves the issue by acquiring the mmap read lock on
init_mm on vmap page table free if a ptdump is in progress.
However the fix in this series would cause a deadlock if we were to simply
apply it for arm64 without also reverting the change.
This is because vmap may acquire the read lock before ptdump attempts to
acquire the write lock, which then gets queued, and rwsem starvation rules
mean that the (unacknowledged) nested mmap read lock in the arm64 code
would also block, meaning the original read lock is never released and
thus deadlock.
This series works around this by #ifndef CONFIG_ARM64'ing the mmap read
lock in vmap logic, then partially reverting commit fa93b45fd397 ("arm64:
Enable vmalloc-huge with ptdump"), keeping the enablement of huge vmap
support, and removing the ifdeffery with the partial revert patch.
There are related issues that we also address in this series:
* x86 page attribute logic, specifically Change Page Attributes (CPA),
implements a feature whereby huge ranges can be collapsed into huge leaf
entries. This can similarly cause a UAF when done in parallel with a
ptdump walk, so similarly acquire the init_mm mmap lock to avoid this.
* The CPA logic allows concurrent page table manipulation and CPA
collapse, meaning the former risks accessing a page table the latter
frees. Fix this by acquiring mmap write lock on init_mm across the
whole CPA collapse operation and read lock on the page table
manipulation.
* x86 and arm64 permit walks of non-kernel mm's (both allowing efi mm
walks, and in intel's case arbitrary mm's), so we ensure kernel mappings
remain stable by locking the init_mm as well as the mm being walked.
The ordering of patches is established for both strict dependencies (the
arm64 partial revert in particular has to be done after the vmap changes)
and logical ones (the non-kernel mm fix only makes sense once the vmap/CPA
fixes are in place).
This patch (of 5):
Currently there is a nasty race between ptdump and vmap when attempting to
map a huge P4D, PUD or PMD entry:
* ptdump walks kernel page table ranges it doesn't own.
* When vmap maps ranges it tries to promotes existing ones to huge page
tables in vmap_try_huge_[p4d,pud,pmd]() at P4D, PUD and PMD level,
freeing the lower page table in [p4d,pud,pmd]_free_[pud,pmd,pte]_page()
when it succeeds.
Both of these things can happen at the same time and as a result ptdump
can access a freed page table, resulting in a use-after-free and memory
corruption.
This is possible because while ptdump_walk_pgd() holds both the mem
hotplug lock and the mmap write lock before invoking
walk_page_range_debug(), vmap takes no relevant locks at all.
Fix this by holding the mmap read lock in vmap_try_huge_*() when freeing
page tables.
The read lock is sufficient: ptdump is the only walker that must be
excluded and it holds the mmap write lock. Other holders of the read lock
may run concurrently, but each exclusively owns the range it operates on
and cannot reach the page tables freed here.
We also hold the lock while assigning the huge page table entry, which
means page table walkers observe only the huge or non-huge page table
entry.
We use a trylock to prevent ptdump from blocking vmap making forward
progress. This is fine because it's an optimisation in any case, and thus
the vmap can safely proceed regardless.
All other kernel page table walkers that touch vmalloc ranges either
exclusively own the memory walked or acquire the mmap lock, so this
correctly excludes those walkers.
One wrinkle here is commit fa93b45fd397 ("arm64: Enable vmalloc-huge with
ptdump"), which addresses the issue for arm64 only by explicitly acquiring
the mmap read lock on kernel page table freeing should a concurrent ptdump
be in progress.
This is problematic as vmap may acquire the mmap read lock prior to ptdump
attempting to acquire an mmap write lock, leading to a deadlock when the
mmap read lock is slept upon on page table freeing due to rwsem
anti-starvation.
We work around this by predicating the mmap lock being taken on
!CONFIG_ARM64 for the time being.
With this patch applied, a follow up will partially revert commit
fa93b45fd397 ("arm64: Enable vmalloc-huge with ptdump") and at that stage
remove the arm64 ifdeffery.
We also update walk_page_range_debug() to assert the mmap write lock
unconditionally and update the comment here to reflect this change.
The issue has existed as long as ptdump was available and vmap freed page
tables when promoting to a huge leaf entry, that is, since commit
b6bdb7517c3d ("mm/vmalloc: add interfaces to free unmapped page table")
for huge ioremap, and commit 121e6f3258fe ("mm/vmalloc: hugepage vmalloc
mappings") for huge vmalloc.
Since the former is the earlier of the two we choose that for our Fixes
tag.
We also define a guard class for mmap_read_trylock() so we can use
cleanup.h to make the scope handling cleaner in the implementation.

The mglru page table walker batches per-generation size deltas in
walk->nr_pages while walking page tables without holding the lruvec lock.
The reset_batch_size() later folds those deltas into walk->lruvec under
the lruvec lock.

sizeof(lruvec->lrugen.nr_pages)));
And the user-visible impact of underestimated nr_pages in MGLRU was
premature OOMs because MGLRU does not try to reclaim memory when nr_pages
reaches zero, but there are still more pages.
To fix it, make reset_batch_size() check CSS_DYING under RCU before
flushing the pending batch. A non-dying memcg keeps the original lruvec
stable against RCU-delayed offlining; a dying memcg redirects the deltas
to the first non-dying ancestor.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05 (Renoir) ships a BOE 0x08DF eDP panel that
advertises AUX/DPCD backlight control, so amdgpu's automatic detection
(amdgpu_backlight == -1) selects AUX. On this panel the AUX backlight
path has no effect: brightness writes are accepted but the panel level
never changes, the display is stuck at a fixed brightness and
max_brightness is reported as a bogus 511000. As a result neither the
desktop brightness slider nor the brightness hotkeys do anything.
Forcing PWM backlight (amdgpu.backlight=0) restores working control:
max_brightness becomes 65535 and the level tracks writes. This has long
been applied by users as a manual kernel-parameter workaround.
Extend the generic panel backlight quirk with a force_pwm flag, add an
entry for the Legion 5 15ARH05 / BOE 0x08DF panel, and have amdgpu
disable AUX backlight (use PWM) when the quirk matches and the user
lets the driver auto-select the backlight type.

The auth_hmacs array in struct sctp_cookie is supposed to store a complete
SCTP_AUTH_HMAC_ALGO parameter, which consists of a struct sctp_paramhdr
followed by N HMAC identifiers.
However, the array size was calculated using an extra 2 bytes instead of
sizeof(struct sctp_paramhdr), which is 4 bytes. When four HMAC identifiers
are configured, the HMAC-ALGO parameter stored in the endpoint is larger
than the auth_hmacs buffer in the cookie.
As a result, sctp_association_init() copies beyond the end of auth_hmacs
when initializing the association, corrupting the adjacent auth_chunks
field. This can lead to an invalid HMAC identifier being accepted and later
cause an out-of-bounds read in sctp_auth_get_hmac().
Fix the array size calculation by including the full SCTP parameter header
size.

A kfunc marked with KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS flag takes implicit arguments
(such as bpf_prog_aux) that the verifier injects at load time.
resolve_btfids strips those from the kfunc's BTF-visible prototype and
keeps the real kernel ABI in a counterpart _impl prototype [1].
fentry/fexit/fmod_ret/fsession programs may attach to the BPF kernel
functions, including those with implicit args. However
bpf_check_attach_target() and bpf_check_attach_btf_id_multi() extract
the struct btf_func_model from the wrong BTF prototype of the
kfunc. The btf_func_model is later read to construct the trampoline,
which then causes the injected implicit argument to be clobbered and
the kfunc dereferencing garbage.
Add btf_attach_func_proto() to resolve the real ABI prototype of the
kfunc the way the call site does: by looking up the _impl prototype
for a KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS kfunc. Use it at both attach-target model
construction sites.
To enable this, make two supporting changes:
* pass bpf_verifier_log instead of bpf_verifier_env to
find_kfunc_impl_proto(), so it can be reused from the attach path
* add btf_kfunc_check_flag() to test a flag across all of a kfunc's
hook sets, because a program attaching to a kfunc is not in the
kfunc's call-set
KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS must be consistent across the sets, so
btf_kfunc_check_flag() returns -EINVAL on inconsistency.
btf_kfunc_check_flag() reads the kfunc's flags from the target's
kfunc_set_tab. For a module BTF that table is stable only after the
module is live, so take a module reference around the read, mirroring
how the kfunc call path gates the same lookup with btf_try_get_module().
The remaining call sites of btf_distill_func_proto() are safe as
is. The BPF_TRACE_ITER case distills a registered iterator's
prototype, and bpf_struct_ops_desc_init() distills the
function-pointer members of a struct_ops type. Neither is a kfunc, and
so can't have implicit arguments.

tcp_bpf_ioctl() answers SIOCINQ from psock->msg_tot_len, which only
counts bytes in ingress_msg. Without a stream/skb verdict program
nothing is diverted there: data stays in sk_receive_queue, so FIONREAD
returns 0 even though read() returns data.
Add tcp_inq() to the reported value when the psock has no verdict
program. The two queues are disjoint, so bytes redirected into
ingress_msg from other sockets stay correctly accounted through
msg_tot_len.
Remove unused sk_psock_msg_inq().

MGMT_EV_DEVICE_DISCONNECTED carries a reason field which is defined to
be one of MGMT_DEV_DISCONN_* (0x00..0x05). hci_disconn_complete_evt()
converts the HCI error with hci_to_mgmt_reason(), but two other paths
pass the raw HCI error straight through:
hci_cs_disconnect() -> cp->reason
mgmt_connect_failed() -> status
The latter is reached whenever the adapter is powered off or suspended:
hci_disconnect_all_sync() aborts every link with
HCI_ERROR_REMOTE_POWER_OFF, hci_disconnect_sync() deliberately does not
wait for HCI_EV_DISCONN_COMPLETE for that reason, so that
hci_abort_conn_sync() finishes the connection off through
hci_conn_failed() instead.
As a result userspace sees an out of range reason:

Export hci_to_mgmt_reason() and use it in both places, so that a power

Drivers which use the scsi_schedule_eh function to run the error handler
currently risk the error handler thread never waking once all commands are
timed out or inactive. There is no enforced memory order between setting
the host into error recovery state and counting busy commands. This can
result in a race with scsi_dec_host_busy where neither CPU sees both
conditions of all commands inactive and the host error state to request
waking the error handler.
To fix this, run the scsi_schedule_eh's scsi_eh_wakeup from a new work item
which will use rcu to ensure scsi_schedule_eh's call to scsi_host_busy will
occur after the error state is globally visible and will be seen by any
current scsi_dec_host_busy callers.

Pull tracing fixes from Steven Rostedt:
- Free field in error path of synthetic event parse
In __create_synth_event() the field was allocated but was not freed
in the error path
- Fix ring_buffer_event_length() on 8 byte aligned architectures
On architectures with CONFIG_HAVE_64BIT_ALIGNED_ACCESS set to y, the
ring_buffer_event_length() may return the wrong size. This is because
archs with that config set will always use the "big event meta
header" as that is 8 bytes keeping the payload 8 bytes aligned, even
when a 4 byte header could hold the size of the event
But ring_buffer_event_length() doesn't take this into account and
only subtracts 4 bytes for the meta header in the length when it
should have subtracted 8 bytes
- Have osnoise wait for a full rcu synchronization on unregister
osnoise_unregister_instance() used to call synchronize_rcu() before
freeing its copy of the instance but was switched to kfree_rcu(). The
osniose tracer has code that traverses the instances that it uses,
and inst is just a pointer to that instance. By using kfree_rcu()
instead of synchronize_rcu(), the instance that the inst pointer is
pointing to can be freed while the osnoise code is still referencing
it
That is, a rmdir on an instance first unregisters the tracer. When
the unregister finishes, the rmdir expects that the tracer is
finished with the instance that it is using. By putting back the
synchronize_rcu() in osnoise_unregister_instance() the unregistering
of osnoise will now return when all the users of the instance have
finished
- Remove an unused setting of "ret" in tracing_set_tracer()
- Fix ring_buffer_read_page() copying events
The commit that changed ring_buffer_read_page() to show dropped
events from the buffer itself, split the "commit" variable between
the commit value (with flags) and "size" that holds the size of the
sub-buffer. A cut and paste error changed the test of the reading
from checking the size of the buffer to the size of the event causing
reads to only read one event at a time
- Make tracepoint_printk a static variable
When the tracing sysctl knobs were move from sysctl.c to trace.c, the
variable tracepoint_printk no longer needed to be global. Make it
static
- Fix some typos
- Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag()
The flags update of the function tracer first checks if the value of
the flag is the same and exits if they are, and then it checks if the
current tracer is the function tracer and exits if it isn't. The
problem is that these checks need to be in a reversed order, as if
the tracer isn't the function tracer, then the flag being checked may
not exist. Reverse the order of these checks
- Fix ufs core trace events to not dereference a pointer in TP_printk()
The TP_printk() part of the TRACE_EVENT() macro is called when the
user reads the "trace" file. This can be seconds, minutes, hours,
days, weeks, and even months after the data was recorded into the
ring buffer. Thus, saving a pointer to an object into the ring buffer
and then dereferencing it from TP_printk() can cause harm as the
object the pointer is pointing to may no longer exist
Fix all the trace events in ufs core to save the device name in the
ring buffer instead of dereferencing the device descriptor from
TP_printk()
- Prevent out-of-bound reads in glob matching of trace events
The filter logic of events allows simple glob logic to add wild cards
to filter on strings. But some events have fields that may not have a
terminating 'nul' character. This may cause the glob matching to go
beyond the string. Change the logic to always pass in the length of
the field that is being matched
- Add no-rcu-check version of trace_##event##_enabled()
The trace_##event##_enabled() usually wraps trace events to do extra
work that is only needed when the trace event is enabled. But this
can hide events that are placed in locations where RCU is not
watching, and can make lockdep not see these bugs when the event is
not enabled
The trace_##event##_enabled() was updated to always test to make sure
RCU is watching to catch locations that may call events without RCU
being active
This caused a false positive for the irq_disabled() and related
events. As that use trace_irq_disabled_enabled() to force RCU to be
watching when the event is enabled via the ct_irq_enter() function,
calls the event, and then calls ct_irq_exit() to put RCU back to its
original state
The trace_irq_disabled_enabled() should not trigger a warning when
RCU is not watching because the code within its block handles the
case properly. Make a __trace_##event##_enabled() version for this
event to use that doesn't check RCU is watching as it handles the
case when it isn't
- Fix use-after-free in user_event_mm_dup()
When the enabler is removed from the link list, it is freed
immediately. But it is protected via RCU and needs to be freed after
an RCU grace period. Use queue_rcu_work() so that the event_mutex can
also be taken as user_event_put() takes the mutex on the last
reference is released
- Free type string in error path of parse_synth_field()
There's an error path in parse_synth_field() where the allocated type
string is not freed
- Add selftest that tests deferred event teardown
- Fix leak in error path of trace_remote_alloc_buffer()
If page allocation fails, the desc->nr_cpus is not incremented for
the current CPU and the allocations done for it are not freed
- Fix allocation length in trace_remote_alloc_buffer()
The logic to calculate the struct_len was doing a double count and
setting the value too large. Calculate the size upfront to fix the
error and simplify the logic
- Fix sparse CPU masks in ring_buffer_desc()
If there are sparse CPUs (gaps in the numbering), the
ring_buffer_desc() will fail as it tests the CPU number against the
number of CPUs that are used
